Obviously for the older player as you quickly start to play. You have to apply yourself to learn anything. There is no magical fix for learning to play the piano and no substitute for a tutor. If you have the will to learn this book will certainly get you going.
Practice is the word and there is no other way. I found this book very helpful indeed and well though out. You progress steadily and several weeks later, in my case, I can read both hands quite well.
My aim is to play modern songs from scratch, slowly maybe to start but improving with the weeks. A good buy.
Great book for anyone who wants to learn to play. I love how everything is explained step by step so you can gradually better your playing and understanding of piano music. It also helped me learn to read music better.
Its great that it has listed correlated materials that you can use with it if you want to practice more. All in all I love it. Can’t wait to finish so I can start the level 2 book.
This is a great book for learning. I played an accordian as a kid and needed to educate my left hand to a keyboard. Needed a big time refresher on everything. Love the lessons and the selection of songs accompanying them.
There are recommended song books listed on the bottom of some of the pages as you progress within this same book that you can order on line as you approach each level and the songs are all beautifully arranged.
Even my friend who has been playing for years loved the arrangements and the simplicity. They just make for fun playing. I just ordered the adult book level 2 of this series. Wish me luck.

This was an interesting text book. I had not ever heard of it before I purchased it to help my son (aged 51 years) via Facetime. The method was one that is being used nowadays by other authors such as James Bastien.
This is not my choice of tutor, however there is much of value depending upon the student’s attention and the teacher’s abilities.
Highly suitable for my level of learning (12 months playing) with right amount of challenge. However a bit heavy on piano/music theory – I just want to learn to play. Recommended buy. Will certainly consider purchasing book 2.
A good piano book for adults teaching the basics that you need to know as a beginner. Every steps they guide you through are explained. Recommend anyone who is looking to learn piano from the scratch.
Continuing the incredible popularity of Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course, this new book adapts the same friendly and informative style for adults who wish to teach themselves. With the study guide pages that have been added to introduce the music, it’s almost like having a piano teacher beside you as you learn the skills needed to perform popular and familiar music.
There are also five bonus pieces: At Last * Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas * Laura * Over the Rainbow * Singin’ in the Rain. Included is a recording containing the piano part and an engaging arrangement for each of the 65 musical examples.
I received the book with the 2 CD’s, earlier than the expected delivery date, that was a plus, but, I put the first CD (the one in the front of the book) in my laptop and nothing happened, at this point I thought that maybe there were issues with my laptop, I then put the CD in my vehicle cd player and it keeps saying, “Check CD”.
I then tried the 2nd CD (the one in the back of the book) and it worked perfectly. With that being said, I am disappointed with the 1st CD that is not working. Other than that, no complaints.
I purchased this book after researching best books for adult beginners, and I’m very satisfied. I couldn’t read a single note of music a few weeks ago and I’ve already learned to play some simple songs using both hands.
First let me qualify that many years ago I studied music but forgot most of what I’ve learned. However, my experience gives me a qualification to judge good instruction for a beginner course. In an easy simple way, this book teaches notes, theory, and sight reading with small one topic lessons anyone can follow and understand.
The exercise make the piano feel natural quickly, and each small lesson teaches a new concept as you advance in your learning. The book is very well done. The only thing needed to reach your goal to play, is to follow the book, and practice.
I’d say this course covers the basics very well, like you might see in a semester of piano in a junior college, or maybe 2-3 months with an instructor.

This book is a piano course laid out specifically for adults. The content moves briskly, without skipping anything important. It logically builds upon whatever you had just learned. Many of the practice pieces actually sound quite nice.
Coupled with some YouTube watching, this is the next best thing to private lessons or a class.

You can work through the basics without feeling overfaced and overwhelmed by so much new information, yet there are plenty of exercises to reinforce your learning as you go along.
It’s really comprehensive, makes learning manageable and I highly recommend it.
Good book, I’m a beginner and worked my way thru first 20 or so pages so far. It covers reading music, some theory and practice. When delivered even though it way packaged in plastic envelope the lower right corner of entire book was wet, decided I could live with it since I waited 3 weeks for it.
This book begins with an extensive review of the chords and keys previously studied, using fresh and interesting material that will provide enjoyment as well as reinforcement. Particularly noteworthy is the systematic presentation of chords in all positions in both hands.

This book is for my daughter (15years) who has recently joined piano lesson and this specific book was recommended by her teacher. she really expressed her gratitude that she got this book on time. Thank you for the previous owner of this book who kept it nice and clean.

I was looking for a refresher course to relearn playing the piano. I took lessons as a child but have long ago forgotten what I was taught. Looking forward to investing into a new hobby that will add great enrichment to my life.
My sister recently started using this program in order to learn piano so she could fill the spot at her church. At first we were both really hesitant to see results, but if you need an open mind, it is certainly possible.

>>Ahem!<< I've not got round to working from this book yet but it's full of excellent pieces to play which a piano teacher from London demonstrates on YouTube and they all sound fab. I got this volume because I've been playing for several years now and it seems like it's at my current level of playing and reading ability.
Don’t believe me? Check it for yourself, it’s very good!.
This is an EXCELLENT training tool for learning the piano. I tried the Level One book and loved it, so was very happy to find Level 2 and Level 3 on Ebay. Truly a great training book.
Complete Level 1 is a faster-paced version of Levels 1A and 1B that gets to staff reading more quickly. Perfect for a student who is 8 or older, or for a younger beginner with great musical aptitude.
This course is most effective when used under the direction of a piano teacher or experienced musician.
This book doesn’t proceed too fast, and works largely in 5 finger hand positions. Nice artwork. Its American, and not surprisingly the song titles/themes reflect that culture which can mean that UK kids are a bit unmoved.
But I’ve found that adults over 60 are also happy to work with it: some adult tutors proceed too fast sometimes.
My 9yo said it’s easy to follow & understand. From she knows nothing about piano (she started learning piano with a teacher since lockdown in April), to now November and almost finishing this book and will be going on to Book 2 next.
A good book. Very similar to the Mango piano method which my daughter uses atm. I find the Mango book a bit better for her. This one is better for me as an adult.

This comprehensive course adds such features as isometric hand exercises, finger strengthening drills, and written assignments that reinforce each lesson’s concepts. This is a great method to start without any music knowledge at all. Each page teach you something new and you have this feeling of step by step accomplished. The DVD is really a great bonus as you can see the teacher showing and explaining you the concepts.
The repertoire is very rich and versatile, it encourages you with lots of popular songs, christmas and church songs, birthday, folk. I really love the blues introduction because it’s not always the case to find blues in a method for beginners, the introduction very early to chords, then 7th chords etc.
as well. It’s really great if you want to play later blues, jazz, pop etc. However if you want to play classical pieces later too it’s perfectly possible too, that’s what is great with this method. Finally the comb binding is perfect to let the book open without having to hold the pages with something.
Alfred’s All-in-One Basic Adult Piano Course books were recommended on u-tube by the delightful Allysia (pianoTV), an experienced Canadian piano teacher as a chord-based method – useful for playing popular music, & also by a beginner, The Piano NOOB, for a solid base in reading notes & chords.
I love Faber Adult Piano Adventures but on beginning their Book 2 felt that I needed a more solid foundation. This method does that – it gives you homework – & gradual progress. Good DVD to show you how to play is included.
I have found this book to be excellent for teaching me from scratch to learn how to play the piano. I am only a quarter of the way through and already I can read a note from a page and then know where to find the same note on the piano keys.
Although it may seem like it starts off slowly. This book lets the lessons sink in with lots of examples and practices after each theory part.
This listing, the cover photo and several other listings like it claim that the book contains “60 Exercises” — IT DOES NOT. This (assumed reprint) of part of the original Book 1 contains only the first 20 exercises.
These are not only erroneous listings, they are (in my opinion) fraudulent. I’ve complained to eBay in separate notices. Nothing has been done. This and similar offerings DO NOT contain 60 exercises.
It is an abbreviated booklet of only the first 20 exercises. Unless that’s what you expect, don’t buy it.
Take a closer look at the image, although the title reads “in sixty exercises”, this is only book 1 of 3, which means only the first 20 exercises. My mistake, should’ve paid attention and bought the complete edition for a couple euros more.
Great exercises for warming up, and improving independence and strength. but be careful not to over-do it, as the book says, if you begin to feel pain you should stop! A word to the wise. I never use a metronome.

This is the best intro piano book I have ever had. I played piano many years ago and decided to take it up again. After some research, I found this to be the best piano cook out there. And after using it, I can understand why! It’s at the perfect gradient, teaching all of the basics with fun songs.
There are a lot of good lessons and theory that carry you through the book. I highly recommend!.
Ordered the Alfred Basic Course Book as a refresher after years of not having played piano. It appears to be formatted to help address several topics that will be helpful. Sometimes you forget some basics when you are anxious to play again.
A beginning course for adults who prefer a chord approach. It teaches chords for both hands so that the student can play more than single note melodies. It contains outstanding songs such as ”The Entertainer,” ”Scarborough Fair,” ”Greensleeves” and ”Amazing Grace.
” This course is most effective when used under the direction of a piano teacher or experienced musician.
I have used this book for 30 years. It is superior in the way it introduces moving the fingers to form the basic chords over any other book that I have seen. I use this book for adults and children and have enjoyed great success.

I play guitar and ukulele, now I’d like to add some piano skills. This book has the right introductory info and a clear progression of concepts and excercises. As a bonus, the spiral binding makes it lay nice and flat on the music stand.
My new High School student likes the the Adult Adventure Book All-in-One Lesson Book very much! I like the duet accompaniment of the book. I like the book because, it has a lot of simple Classical Pieces.
It is a very practical book for young adult students.
Very well organized and simple to follow instructions. I am a self-starter and a musical experimental guy who has had previous keyboard instructions before and have been hoping to find a book just like this one!.
This appealing course of study for beginners age 12 and up is designed functionally, allowing students to play and harmonize melodies from the beginning. A time-tested chord approach method that really works!.
Adult beginners are less common than children beginners. Due to this, adults need that musical inspiration with a price that is good and easy to swallow. Other beginner adults books are available with a lower price tag, however due to James Bastiens innovative thinking, we believe at our academy its one of the best books out there.
Lower the price, get the punters buying their next steps in music.
I bought the Older Beginner Piano Course Level 1 for me! I have always wanted to learn to play the piano. So for Christmas I bought my grand daughter and myself a used electric piano from Ebay. It is beautiful and has a teaching mode.
I plan to teach myself and if I can’t I will take lessons. So far the books I’ve purchased from Ebay have been very helpful. I have purchased vintage to modern piano books and this Older Beginner Piano is the best.
(Lesson * Theory * Technic). For piano. Method/Instruction; Piano – Alfred’s Basic Adult All-in-One Course. Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course. Learn To Play and Play Along. Beginner. Instructional book (spiral bound) and accompaniment CD.
Introductory text, instructional text, easy piano notation, fingerings, illustrations and lyrics (on some songs). 144 pages. Published by Alfred Music Publishing.
I bought this book to use with a beginner older student. It is perfectly sequenced and has some theory exercises withing for reinforcement. I also like that it comes with a CD. It is important that students play along with a recording and/or accompaniment of the music they are learning.
My teacher recommend this book and I find it absolutely amazing! I an now at the second book and I enjoy it a lot. I wanted to teach my little sister also but this book was too hard for her so I used the Mango Piano Method instead.
They are very similar as technique but the mango book is much easier to grasp for children. She is 7.
I have returned back to step one to get a better start so I can move forward faster. This series has been time proven. Sam Ash has an extensive line of instruments and the learning books and lessons to support them.
The 2nd Edition Primer Theory Book provides important reinforcement and creative application of basic theory concepts. Students will enjoy note-naming with StoryRhymes, exploring improvisation, and engage with eye-training and ear-training activities all within a fun-filled context tied thematically to the Primer Lesson Book pieces.
I use many books for teaching piano but I really like Faber and Faber. This Primer Level Lesson Book is easy for students to understand and the diagrams/illustrations are great! Kids really like the teacher/student duets.
It’s also a good idea when the students get to draw in notes – they remember better! I do have one suggestion: before the student starts playing using the lines and spaces the letters R. H. and L. H.
are written in but I wish they would also put the Treble Clef Sign and Bass Clef Sign there as well — that way the student could get introduced to those from the beginning. In fact, I pencil them in for every student (I have attached a picture).
The Faber ‘Piano Adventures’ series is a great series – not only is the music nicely designed from a teaching perspective, the material is also enthusiastically embraced by students. And, as a bonus, it is also pleasant to teach – the compositions are musically interesting and the duets usually delightful, making even the rank beginner sound like they can play well.
This encourages the students more. I will always use this series as my basis.
This book was recommended to me by a professional and now that I have started using it I can see why. It progresses nicely and helps the student use different fingers on the same note so a beginner won’t associate a certain finger with a certain note.
I am happy with this material for my beginner students.
