20 Best Backsplash For Butcher Block Countertops (2022 Updated)

These are Tee-rific! So many uses for them. I’m actually cutting them apart and using them as a frame around the bathroom mirror that has started to wear at the edges,. Once completed I will glue thin jute rope on the inside edge and maybe even the outside edge to complete the nautical / coastal look, love, love love.

My kitchen looks fabulous! I get so many compliments. It is so easy to put up and is very durable while looking professional!

I found these tricky to cut and apply and I found them rather plasticky and cheap looking. Unfortunately I couldn’t return as already cut and had to throw away. Will spebd more money for proper tiles.

These tiles are really pretty and just what I needed. They helped me update my ancient kitchen. My evil landlord never installed a proper backsplash in my kitchen, so I took out the terrible boards he’d tacked up and replaced them with these stick-on tiles.

They look great! It totally changes the look of my kitchen. It looks brighter and more modern. However, the tiles were a PAIN to install. You need a lot of patience and hours of time to align and cut to fit the space.

If you’re just doing a small wall, it’s probably quick and easy, but I had 3 walls that were a bit bumpy and not perfectly even in size. So, buyer beware, set aside A LOT of time to do this if you want it to look accurate and even.

Very thin. Bought for going around a sink, disappointed that it’s barely thicker than a standard sticker. The bulging glass effect is a very thin coating of rubber (not plastic) which cracked and ripped and crumbled off at the edges where I cut it, despite using a very sharp scissors OR a brand new blade on a craft knife.

Expensive too. Pictures show it around sinks and on stair treads, where I can’t see it lasting more than a few weeks before it is damaged. It also wasn’t as strongly adhesive as it would need to be to withstand cleaning.

GREAT PRODUCT. Nice coastal vibe. I did a kitchen backsplash area that was previously painted. After many months the tiles look great. Just be sure to wipe then now and then with a damp gentle cloth to keep them clean.

Pretty easy to install, just take your time and follow instructions, including the amount of extras you may need for your square footage. I found two knife types helpful. A standard artist X-acto knife plus a standard box cutter.

Keep them sharp, replace blades to keep your cuts meticulous! Use a good cutting mat underneath, a mat with measurements on it. I would recommend this product, really pretty and quite robust. Upon first look, a friend thought I installed ceramic tile, not kidding.

Ordered this top with the Varnique finish option. The finish on the top surface is very good, with one tiny little bubble. However, the finish on the two end-grain edges is not good. It has runs and drips.

Perhaps the assumption is that this block would be surrounded on the sides by other countertop material, but my application is more like an island.

I believe in honest reviews, so I can’t tell you my food tastes better, or that it has turned my life around. Fundamentally, its just a piece of wood. A beautiful, finely crafted piece of wood. It’s solid and was cut exactly to my specifications.

It’s so nice, I’m not allowed to cut on it! It now has me thinking of remodeling the whole kitchen so I can replace the rest of the counters and let the beauty of the wood shine. It shipped a few days late, but still arrived on schedule, in time to make a good Christmas present.

The maple in the countertop I received had a large amount of variation. I expected the pieces used to be more similar. It doesn’t match other Boos block used on this job.

Beautiful counter top. I used the “back side” that has more of the blond wood. Sanded it thoroughly, used “Tried & True Wood Finish” , which spectacularly brought out the grain, while being natural.

Purchased for kitchen countertop surround. Material is solid, no cracks. Edges are not straight, though. Prior to installation, check the exposed edge with a string. If, the sides are not straight, you may need to re-cut it.

A track saw will help. We had to cut ours in order to straighten the edge and have all equal widths prior to installation. Countertop surround installation, so, front edges needed to line up and overhang for cabinets kept consistent.

The back edge was covered up with backsplash.

Arrived VERY well packaged. Each strip is finger joined which was an unexpected and great surprise as cheaper wood counters are often just glued. This being UNFINISHED was of optimal importance to me as others already have an oil in them, which is incompatible with my chosen finish of pure tung oil.

Be aware of this. We went against recommendations of finishing immediately and let it climatize unwrapped in a neutral spot near our kitchen where it was installed, this may not be a good idea for others and may void warranty.

We did so as we run strictly wood stove near our kitchen and if wood is going to flex, we wanted it to so before installation. This is a great product for people who have realistic expectations of hardwood and the possible issues that can arise even from a near perfect piece, like when cutting to shape you may come across surprise knots that can splinter or need filling, etc.

The piece has one good side, as many products do. Be AWARE of how close you are cutting to finger joints and stay at least an inch away. We had professional help cutting to shape and joining but I am finishing it myself with 100% pure Tung oil, which in my opinion and thorough research to be the best option for water resistance and actual use.

This isn’t just for looks, i will be cutting, butchering, dough kneading etc on this. Pure tung oil requires a LONG application process with drying times between each coat of up to or beyond a week, with up to or beyond 6 coats for best durable results.

I have another counter finished in this way and it beads water for days. Pure tung oil ALSO polymerizes naturally, so it dries and hardens within the wood, unlike the often used mineral oil. Do your research thoroughly if finishing yourself.

Beware of articles written by the product’s company and blogs, even beware of some professional sites and the finish info out there. Finish all sides and cuts no matter what you use for even flexion as it moves with the moisture content of your house’s climate.

The most important thing with hardwood countertops is to have realistic expectations and do some research. I personally will be using mine to cut and cook on. To cut and butcher up meat etc, and look forward to the character that will bring.

We purchased the 98” Unfinished Maple But her Block at the beginning of May as our countertop was just three inches longer than the lesser sized option. After almost a month of anticipation and issues with transit/tracking communication between Home Depot and curriers, it finally arrived! To our disappointment after following the care instructions, having a contractor cut to size for our countertop, we now have a few cracks.

Needless to say, for what we paid for this product, we are extremely disappointed. Not even sure where to go from here. I don’t want to have to wait again, as this was the final piece of our kitchen reno, but also not happy with how our countertop looks for a new butcher block countertop.

The gorgeous countertop arrived early but broken. It split in half along one of the glue joints during shipping. They have promised a replacement, and I look forward to changing my 1 star rating once I receive the new countertop.

Beautiful island countertop. This was 7’x42″, which entirely transformed our kitchen and has made a wonderful gathering area in the kitchen. Couldn’t be happier with the work, and the maple is beautiful.

Ordered, paid and picked up this top at a store the same day. Lightly sanded it. And flooded it with mineral oil. The colors! It’s sitting on top mint green kitchen cabinets with brass handles. It could not look any better.

I have received so many compliments. Kitchen has marble counter tops in it as well. People barely notice them. If you want a show stopper kitchen, this is for you.

Beautiful product that tremendously exceeded all my expectations. Here are some things to consider that I learned from installing them myself. (1) they will need to be lightly sanded once installed. No biggie.

Just as an fyi, there will be some markings stamped on the inside end of each piece. It sands out super easy though. Likewise, there will be some light wear on the top of each section where it appears something was wrapped around it during manufacturing to hold it together.

Again, very light sanding with 220 sand paper will take it away in seconds and you will never notice. (2) teak is a very hard wood. I went through a blade on my saw with every piece I cut. Granted, I used a very fine blade because a wanted a precision cut.

If you do it yourself (and it is easy) just make sure to measure several times and use a fresh fine wood cutting blade each time. (3) Before cutting, look at both sides and pick out which side you want to be the top and – important – which side you want to be facing the back wall.

(4) the matching backsplash is well worth the money and really finishes the tops. Don’t be skimpy and do this while your at it. (5) each piece of countertop weighs about 75 lbs. It is helpful if you can have someone help you move it.

(6) the corners on the countertops are sharp! I highly recommend you taking some sand paper and knock them down a little bit; especially the corners if you have children. I took a small piece of PVC pipe and cut it in half, then put my sand paper in the inside of it.

I used this to sand the edges and it worked very well. If you are paying someone to install them for you, I suggest talking to them about routing the edges.

It was a well made piece of teak butcher block. Easy to work with and pretty uniform color. I used it in the kitchen window nook area. I probably put 8 layers of varnish (water-based polyurethane) on it which really helped to bring out the beautiful grain pattern.

I bought this to replace the cheap builder counter top for my kitchen island. I looked around for months but could not find anything that would fit the dimensions of the island. And the cost was beyond my budget.

This fit the bill literally. It’s a Boos Board so you know it’s quality. It had a gash on one side but the other side was perfect. Global also branded one of the edges with their logo so that had to be sanded.

After sanding the good side, using a router to put a pencil edge on the top portion and finally sealing it with Waterlox Original, it looks amazing. Lastly, shipping was super fast. From Georgia to Texas in two days! Three days total from order to receipt.

Plan to use it as a desk top for industrial desk. Liked the color variations and the sturdiness, but a scratch right in the middle. it may sand out. Probably occurred from a staple (some staples in rough side of the one I received) on another bench top.

Plan to stain it dark. hope it turns out like I imagine.

Beautiful looking great quality I used it on top of my washer/dryer. It gave my small kitchen a bit more counter space and its beautiful.

Received with no damage and very well packaged. Installed and is a beautiful addition to our newly remodeled kitchen. Looking forward to many great years of use.

I was able to buy 1 slab for our counter space and it worked great. sanded and applied about 10 coats of waterlox for a beautiful, sealed finish. This is a great solution for a 10 year counter top until maybe the wood would eventually wear and warp over time.

Would 100% buy again as long as the slab I got was in the same condition as the one I received.

Upon receipt this countertop looked of high quality. I did the needed cutting, assembly of pieces and installing. Prior to carrying, with help, into my kitchen, I sanded with an orbital sander and 100 grit, then 220 grit sand paper.

Then I oiled with mineral oil and was a little taken aback because of how much it was darkened. Before a second oiling, I hand sanded lightly with 600 grit sand paper. I’ve felt the surface before each oiling and lightly resanded with 600 grit sand paper until the butcher block now feels as smooth as the laminate it replaced.

I’m very much pleased and have begun work on several other smaller counter top areas.

I bought two of the 12 foot butcher block countertops, and it is comical how large the holes are that the factory filled with wood filler paste. Between the two tops, there were at least a dozen holes that were at least 1/2″ x 1/4″ in size and the largest was 1/2″ x 6″ !!! Fortunately, I had about a foot of waste material, from which I was able to cut plugs that matched reasonably well, but spending half of a day fixing $1200 of new material under deadline was not fun.

If I had not been under a deadline from the client, I would have returned these.

We are in the process of remodeling our bathroom. The vanity we ordered did not have a backsplash included. The vanity top is white carrera marble. The backsplash matches and fits perfectly.

I installed these tiles in my garage two months ago and I must say that it now looks great! They protect my drywall from water damage when washing my car, dirt and from everyday traffic (ie. car doors).

It was a 3 hour job to install 140 tiles and didn’t need anything other than a level, pencil and box cutter. My neighbours have seen my garage in which they couldn’t believe their eyes, they thought I had installed real marble.

They have since started their own Smart Tiles projects in their own garages now!!.

Love Smart tiles! We added them to our pull behind camper for a terrific update over the standard backsplash that was way too masculine. Husband did it in a few hours. I love that this makes our camper unique and homey.

The cream color is beautiful and realistic looking. Cuts were a little tedious, but that’s any tile project right? Some very minor issues with the finer points of the herringbone pattern not sticking down completely but, you have to be right next to it to notice.

Just wish Smart Tiles provided more trim options/ colors to finish off projects. The two options available ( silver and bronze) do not go with the cream herringbone look at all so we are left to get creative.

Will DEFINITELY buy smart tiles again.
