20 Best Backrest For Reading In Bed (2022 Updated)

TL/DR: This pillow is definitely not a one size fits all: I am 6’4’’, 210lbs, and the ‘Standard’ size fits me just barely. So, if you are taller or heavier I would opt for the XL. Pillow is comfortable and sturdy—however the handle feels a bit flimsy, but no problems, yet.

I have found that I am reading for longer periods of time because I am more comfortable and there is less strain on my back and neck. I would recommend this to friends and family and will probably buy for my parents for their birthdays or Christmas.

Arguably a year or two ago the idea of buying a pillow expressly for reading would have seemed ridiculous to me, but as I entered grad school my neck and back started to ache from sitting in a chair, on my bed, or on the couch.

I’ve had this pillow for several days now and have used it for probably about 8hrs in total. Several things that I have noticed over the past several days: • I’m reading for longer periods because I am more comfortable—I don’t have to get up every so often and walk around to get the kinks out of my neck and back.

• My arms don’t get tired—because of the arm rests—from holding my kindle or iPad up while reading. • I find myself using this pillow in place of the back cushions on the couch. Since my couch, and those in the homes of many of my friends, is parallel to the TV, I have to either be sitting up or lying down in order to comfortably see the screen.

With this pillow, I have removed the back cushion on my couch, and place the reading pillow in the corner—this way I can be reclined without the need of an actual recliner. Not to mention this pillow is a lot more comfortable than the couch cushion.

This pillow is quite a bit heavier than it looks and the stitching and fabric appear and feel sturdy. It is easy to get lost in a book while reclining onto this reading pillow, which a friend told me the other day used to be called a husband pillow.

The only part of it that feels a bit weak is the handle on the top. While it is holding up just fine after several days, it does feel flimsy when under the weight of the pillow—while feel isn’t everything a stronger handle would make me like the pillow a bit better and I wouldn’t worry about tearing the pillow open every time I grabbed it.

If you don’t like the color or you just want to protect the soft covering, you can find husband pillow covers online as well—but perhaps Malouf already has or will have coverings available shortly. One thing I would like to see in future versions: multiple colors in each size.

I wanted the navy one, but it was only available in XL. However, now that I have it I am fairly content with the gray, but it would have been nice to be able to match the color to a couch or bed frame—that said, gray goes with just about everything so it was a good color for Malouf to choose given they only chose one.

Looking for a discount and being budget friendly, I scoured through warehouses deals and sales for this particular item. I know getting a generic version would be the simple solution. Heck I live 10 mins from one for purchase.

The reason why I went all and time for this particular brand is simply the quality. Those other cushions had nothing against this comfortable giant. The one I purchase beats in weight and height. Those things are important if you want to support your back in a lounging position.

Another design feature is the fabric quality and stitching to make it very durable and comfortable. The item comes vacuum sealed to save space. While it slight damaged where the vacuum leaked it still stayed compact and no sign of damage.

It said to leave the pillow for 1 hour and it will reshape. I suggest instead to lay it upside down almost to form a pyramid. It allows the side where you rest on it the most in support and structure.

The fabric of the pillow is one of the nicest microfiber that I had to ensure by looking at the label. It feels like freaking fleece and you can clean it easily following the label, and those features laid the last nails in the coffin of any doubt of this purchase.

The pillow comes in a compressed, cylinder plastic wrapped package. I was surprised it could compress down so much, but as soon as I opened the package it fluffed up quite a bit. It has a weird chemical smell, similar to the mattress pad I purchased a few years ago; the mattress pad smell went away, so I’m sure after a few days this smell will, too.

The instructions say to let is sit in a well-ventilated area for 24-48 hours before use. I’ll do that before testing it out. After sitting on the pillow while working on my computer all day, I can definitely say I’m a fan.

I love the feel of the material; it’s incredibly soft. It provided nice neck and back support. I especially like the small armrests where I can put my elbows when working on my laptop. It is comfortable both when sitting upright as well as laying down with just your upper back and neck curved; perfect for reading, working or just relaxing.

My new XXL husbando came in the mail yesterday and it’s already changed my lounge life for the better. When presented with the densely packed package, I was perplexed how such an XXL item could fit in such a tiny envelope.

But upon unwrapping, husbando expanded like one of those dino capsules you put in water as a kid. Except I put it in my dryer on medium heat for 20 min instead. This got rid of most of the stinky “offgassing” smell.

I was already Netflix and chilling with husbando that evening and hope we’ll be together even post pandemic for many years to come! Note that some reviews on Amazon complain the pillow is hard as a rock, however, you need a firm yet yielding husbando for support which is what you get.

It’s definitely not too hard but more akin to a comfy sofa type experience than a “pillow” pillow if that makes sense.

Unfortunately if you think you can prop up one or two regular pillows in bed, behind your back and they are going to stay in place for hours, they will not.

First off I have read where some people have complained about a smell from there pillow, I have a pretty sensitive nose and the pillow has no smell. Next I want to address the Pillow’s headrest adjust ability, which I could not figure out at first.

There are two big buttons on either side of the main part and the head rest pillow has two straps with three holes where it can be attached in three position. At first I attached it to the first hole (cause I could not see the other two) and I thought the headrest flopped around to much.

Then I saw the second and still not perfect. Then I buttoned the strap at the position at the hole closest to the head rest an Viola. Perfect. Just enough adjust ability. so the headrest can adjust on the fly without to much Play.

At first I thought the headrest was just a little soft and I don’t have a cell phone to text so I replied to one of the company’s e-mails, gave them my phone # and requested an additional bag of stuffing.

They replied to my e-mail with a Tracking # left a message on my answering machine right away and 2 days later I had my bag of stuffing ree of charge. I ultimately decided not to mess with it but I have it if I change my mind in the future.

The medical table and the Husband Pillow are two of the best purchases I have made in my life. My arm,back and neck pain are getting better by the day. The Arm rests are very nice and ergonomic. One additional thing I have figured out and would advise is after an hour or so you may start to slide down, I would get out of bed and sit back down correctly re-positioned as opposed to trying to push yourself back up.

This is the best thing you could possible own For sitting up in bed (or anywhere else) and doing stuff for hours at a time in comfort. Go for it.

Placed my Order on November 6th ! November 13th SOMETHING Arrived !?! Didn’t get what I ordered till DECEMBER 4th !! They TRIED to FORCE Something, OTHER Than what I Ordered, on me ! I Had an EXTREMELY DIFFICULT time Just Trying to Place the Order.

The Fiber fill I Wanted, WAS NOT Available in the website’s Drop down menu. I Had to make a Custom Order, instead of using the Main menu. Which ONLY had Memory Foam. So when I Ordered a Fiber filled, w/ Extra “Oomph”, Which they must Not have had in stock.

They Sent me a MEMORY FOAM Filled Pillow !!!!?!!!?!!! 😲😡😖😵😠 And then it Took an ADDITIONAL THREE WEEKS to get What I Ordered. The Memory foam Can NOT be WASHED. Oh! Almost Forgot And it STINKS 😫 !!! Like Musty, Mildew, mixed with the Smell of a Dirty Factory.

ESPECIALLY for the Price ! The ONLY Adjustments that can be made to the Neck roll pillow, is How far it Hangs down, IN the WAY !! (Shoulder Blade pillow ?!?) AND I Got the XXL ONE ! I got a good deal on the Y Max before Christmas a few months ago. I don’t use it everyday but I’ve used it occasionally for a reading and tv lounger and have even slept on it a couple of nights. I’m not totally successful in using it as a chair, as the back gradually lowers, but I might not be doing it exactly correctly.

I got the (dark) blue and it’s a nice color. It doesn’t seem to attract lint or dirt, and the cover zips off to wash although I’ve not needed to wash it yet. The cover is a nice stretchy fabric and seems well made.

It is VERY comfortable, a little firmer than expected but not in an uncomfortable way. A few family members tried it briefly at Christmas and all thought it was very comfortable. It molds to your body contours quite well.

It’s lightweight enough that I can easily move it. The price and size were better than the competition. Five stars so far. However, I am deducting a star, perhaps prematurely. Although my Max hasn’t been used very much, the beads seem to already be packing down some.

I’m a 5’3″ female, weight 142, who lives alone. It still works fine for me at present, but it’s not as “full” as when brand new. Hopefully this won’t get worse very quickly, but I’m doubtful. It’s really been used very little and always gently.

Even at the discounted price, it was still over $220 plus shipping, and shouldn’t pack down so quickly. The replacement beads aren’t cheap, and of course they will add to the total weight. I’m just not sure this product is durable enough re staying fluffy or full, but otherwise it’s great and everything else seems excellent quality.

Perhaps the bead material could be improved?.

These are very comfortable once you settle into them, but something of a disappointment for the price. We purchased two minis, a double, and a max last month for our movie room. I can already tell that they’ll need more stuffing soon.

It’s not a lack of stuffing, so much as the fabric being too stretchy and allowing the stuffing to spread out too much when you sit down. This may be less of a problem if these were being used by small children, but we are two average sized adults.

Personally, I think that the cover fabric should be more substantial for the price. It should be thicker, significantly less stretchy (so that it doesn’t lose its fluff so fast) and something smoother such as a thick spandex (so that pet hair doesn’t cling to it like crazy).

Honestly that’s probably my biggest complaint… I have to use a pet hair roller nearly every day, and our dog doesn’t even get on these. They literally just attract fur out of the air and off of our clothes whenever we sit down.

I wish that we could get different covers that hide the dog hair better (ideally, some kind of mixed shade faux fur or maybe a lighter grey, but that would show dirt faster). Unfortunately, we bought the dark grey ones and our dog is mostly white.

I wish that I’d known all of this before spending so much money on these….

Wow, I am honestly surprised by the quality, comfort and versality of Yogibo. We got these without seeing them and in hopes they could replace our sofa in the basement (family of 4 – two adults and two kids 7 & 8.

And our Cat, Mr. Mochi). We wanted something that we could pick up and move around and everyone could get their own seat – we also needed something safe with our cat. We also wanted something that we could move and open up the basement for other activities and games.

These move with ease and stand up and out of the way. Got hair or dust or anything from the floor on them? Just a basic lint roller will clear that up quickly! Quality – High – the material for the cover is high quality and resistant to my cats claws – he doesn’t scratch but he does make biscuits and sometimes slide off which means claws out to save himself and no pulls, tears or holes.

The zipper is well made and a high quality one at that – it also tucks into a fold of the fabric to hide! Price – I think the price is fair Customer Service – Top Notch (I used to work at Zappos and know/appreciate excellent customer service.

Overall – The entire family loves their yogibo!.

So Cozy!! So Comfy!!! My 11 month old granddaughter loves to curl up in this and drink her “ba-ba” :). It’s filled with shredded foam and is covered in a plush velour like material. The shredded foam keeps longer and is less likely to shift, and doesn’t clump in one spot.

I love color, it’s a soft neutral tone that will fit into any decor! When it arrives it’s rolled up pretty tight, don’t be alarmed!! One you open it it begins fluffing and I found that moving or kneading it helped it fluff quicker!! It has a convenient carry top handle and two arm supports for hours or cozy’ing up!! It provides support while free-standing so it doesn’t need to be propped up against anything! This pillow is extremely well made so I know it’s going to last for years!.

I was purchasing this for my granddaughter, it arrived fairly quickly but it arrived so scrunched together that when i unraveled it it was so wrinkled i couldn’t possibly give it as a gift. I let it sit out for a week or so hoping the wrinkles would go away but they did not so i returned it.

I’m still waiting for my refund.

i Probably should have red the 1 star reviews before buying cause man are they spot on. Terrible product. Much smaller than I could have ever imagined. Hard as a rock. Uncomfortable. No clue what is inside but it’s terrible whatever it is.

Biggest waste of money in a while. I use one of these everyday cause I have a bad back but the one I’ve had for 5 years now started to flatten out cause I’m a big guy. Good news is I don’t think it’s possible to flatten this one out but the bad news is I’ll never know cause it’s that uncomfortable that it will never get used.

We’ve owned several sitting in bed pillows, and they were worthless! We were extremely surprised at how comfortable these were! We loved the bolster pillow because it actually is comfortable for your head, or can be removed.

We realize that this makes a huge difference in comfort, for us at least.

I purchased this for my husband who has a problem with his right shoulder. The arm rest gives him just the right amount of support. He loves the removable roll cushion which he places under his knees.

I was surprised with the stiffness of this pillow. I was fearful it would sag. When I opened it from the vacuum sealed package it looked sad! But after 30mins in the no heat dryer cycle it cane to life! The label recommends five minutes only, but I didn’t like how it looked so I let it go another 20mins.

I have it on my bed and love how it supports my back as I watch TV or read a book. It’s only been about a week and I’m happy so far.

If you put it in the dryer for 5 min it fluffs right up. Pictures are wrong. Top pillow is not a roll but a flat pillow with round front. Has a pocket in front of one of the arms with a slit, not sure what that is for and roll pillow has no elastic to attach like the pictures show.

Otherwise it is perfect.

Love my turquoise wedges, very comfortable on my sore back. They do come shrink wrapped and wrinkled, BUT, I put them in dryer for about 30 min on regular cycle with 2 dryer sheets and they came out PERFECT.

They fabric looks like what Mom called “shaved corduroy” and it is super soft and absolutely gorgeous. The shape is more conducive to reading in bed than the triangle shape. Love! ❤️ (Color washed out by flash, but really pretty light aqua blue.

My daughter loves this. It took about 45 mins to fluff up from packaging, be patient.

It’s soft, purple is nice color. The one I received for my granddaughter for a Christmas present I had to return, one of the armrest was firm and long, the other was shorter, hardly had any material in it (very squishy).

The reason I didn’t buy another one also was because the back seemed very short. No support, even for a 12 year old.

I actually bought this first in white for myself when re-doing my bedding. I liked it so much because it’s cozy and does the job for watching tv in bed that I bought three more in different colors for my granddaughters for Christmas.

They do homework or read in bed and have told me that they use them every day and like them very much. Items like this are always good to have in the house. For reading or watching tv or many other situations where you might need the support on your neck and back.

I bought this to have some extra support for my lower back. I have had issues with my back for many years. I absolutely love the support I get from this backrest. It is VERY comfortable. I use it most days while I am watching tv or working on my computer from my couch.

The cushion is perfect, just what we were looking for to help convert a twin bed in a guest room into a daybed “couch” for daily use. Difficult to find anything like this at any store, I tried so many different places around town for a long back cushion like this, with no luck.

I purchased this wedge cushion with the intention of using it for support when sitting in bed. While it does a great job of that, it has also become my child’s favorite cushion to sit on while watching TV.

Very pretty pillow. Suede, brown basically it will go with a lot of things. It is also oversized. A nice quality pillow. But it being oversized is the problem. I am 5’3. It is very uncomfortable for me.

It is too fluffy. It hurts my back. Can’t get comfortable with it no matter how I position it. It seems like it should be for a taller person. It just sat on my bed unused. Returned. Can’t afford to waste money on unused things.

I *love* this pillow! I have a bed with a high wooden headboard and this pillow helps to support my back when I’m reading, watching TV, or just lounging in bed. I was apprehensive that the pillow wouldn’t provide good support, but this pillow is perfectly firm–I love the soft fabric it is covered with too.

The color is also perfect for my navy blue and coral bedroom! I considered less expensive back pillows, but I’m glad I splurged on this one–sometimes you get what you pay for and this pillow is definitely worth the price tag.

My only issue is with how the order was shipped. Though it arrived sooner than I expected (which was a pleasant surprise) I wish the pillow came in a plastic bag inside the box. When I opened the box, I saw that the pillow was dirty from being in direct contact with the cardboard box it was shipped in.

The Arlee Home Fashions Suede Oversized Backrest Pillow has helped solve an ongoing problem for me. I have terrible pain in my neck, back, and upper arms most of the time because of broken bones over the years and autoimmune diseases now.

Before I received the Arlee pillow, I had to prop a long bed pillow on its end behind my backrest pillow and fold it over the top to support my neck, but could never get comfortable. I was delighted to find the Arlee pillow because the back is so high, giving me the support I needed.

It was delivered quickly and packaged well. I only have two things that kept me from giving it all fives. The first day, I noticed a place on the end of the arm where a seamstress had not caught enough material in the needle.

A little of the ample stuffing was poking out, but nothing a needle and thread couldn’t fix. I wish the arms were a little higher and not so far apart but, for the price, it’s no big deal. My husband wants me to order him one, too!.

NO packaging. AT ALL. An early delivery of the pillow consisted of the driver handing the pillow to me – no bag, no nothing. Luckily he called from my apartment complex the parking lot, to make sure he didn’t have to LEAVE it.

Kudos for Isaac, the considerate, thoughtful delivery man. SHAME on Mainstays and Walmart for having the gall and audacity to offer/deliver an item with NO protection from the elements or theft. No wonder there are so many complaints about this item arriving stained, falling apart, etc.

I ordered this and it arrived without a box or something to protect this from outside elements. I was also unaware that it was being dropped off from a Postmates delivery driver who just left it on the dirty concrete floor by my front door.

I managed to look at my past video camera footage and saw that the driver was also not wearing any protective gear (Mask, Gloves). This was very upsetting because there is a Pandemic going on and COVID cases are surging during this time, and it was just a stupid move on Walmart’s part to just hand this delivery off to Postmates like that.

I contacted Walmart customer service to rectify this matter and ended up throwing this away. So if you are going to order an item like this, just be aware of how it will be shipped.

Flattens and looses shape, quickly. Zipper exposed and cut???!!! Can’t unzip and thereby, CUTTING YOU!!!! I SHOULD SUE. It’s too small for adults really, and made out of absurd material which collects trash, gets caught on blanket etc.

I bought this during the pandemic as a backrest for floor sitting. It’s perfect. It’s firm, even two years later. It’s a good size and it’s very comfortable.

I see a lot of other reviewer’s saying that this is too hard, but I have to disagree. I’ve used quite a few of these bed pillows before and always found them to be too soft. Basically I might as well have been just putting those cheap three dollar Walmart pillows behind my back! But this one seems to be the perfect where it’s still gives you support but you don’t feel like you’re laying against the hard wall!.

I ordered pink color item and when I ordered it, estimated delivery was in 2 days. It was meant to be a birthday gift, got notification that it will arrive the following week (past the birthday). I still waited and when the item arrived, I’m so disappointed to see they gave me black bed rest instead.

Giving a black bed rest for a girl’s birthday gift??? So disappointing. The other disappointment aside from wrong color and very late delivery is it doesn’t have it’s own plastic packaging and is only wrapped in walmart shipping bag.

I wouldn’t take a hassle returning this item as it was already too much a hassle receiving the item very late finding out it was not even the right ordered item.

This is what I ordered for my granddaughter after the wrong one got sent to us on the first one it worked out for the better because she absolutely loved this one her room is getting redone and this goes perfect with the colors on her new bed and curtains she loves how soft it is keeps running her fingers threw it and putting her face on it.

The first one they sent a black and gray camouflage (boy colors) she said so I just kept it and gave it to her twin brother. Alls good in the neighborhood.

I bought this as a gift for my granddaughter for Christmas. I ordered it online. After taking it out of the box saw a slit in the back and two black marks that looked like a marker. We decided to keep it anyway because it’s too much of a hassle to return after Christmas.

Also, it may be out of stock. Walmart should make sure their products are clear of damage before it ships to the customers.
