A backpacking pillow for side sleepers is a pillow that is specifically designed to provide support for the head and neck when sleeping on your side. This type of pillow is usually smaller and thinner than a regular pillow, and is filled with a soft, supportive material.
Many backpacking pillows for side sleepers also have a built-in pillowcase that can be easily removed and washed.
Do you miss your pillow when you’re traveling? The Drift Pillow is a versatile, shredded memory foam pillow with a gel fiber core that strikes the perfect balance between support and comfort. The pillow features a durable, easy-to-clean, water resistant outer shell for travel.
When it is time to go to sleep, the pillow morphs from travel-friendly use to a soft jersey cotton pillow case.
We love our large drift camp pillows. It is designed to be extremely functional. The memory foam is fully adjustable via a zipper in the casing. I love the pillow with all the stuffing! My husband thought it was too ‘fluffy’ so he was able to remove some of the memory foam and make it exactly the way he likes it.
We take it with us every where we go. If we’re traveling long distances in the car it makes for an extremely comfortable nap for the passengers. It is so so so much better than a neck pillow. We went to a rainy soccer game and we forgot our stadium chairs but because we travel with our pillow, we simply switched from the cloth covering to the water resistant cover and used it to sit on the wet benches.
We were so comfortable and it kept us and the pillow completely dry (for the long drive home). When picnicking, if we need more seating, we switch the pillow to the water resistant cover and we sit on it on the ground and it keeps us comfortable and dry regardless of the ground conditions.
Oh yea, we also use it in our teardrop trailer to get some very restful sleep. This pillow is so versatile and well designed!.
I bought this for tent camping and I am loving more and more each time I use it. The pillow case system is genius! You won’t lose either pillow case when you’re not using. Extremely comfy pillow. For those saying it is too firm, you can unzip and remove some stuffing to customize your fit.
I removed enough to fill a large Ziploc and it is perfect! This pillow packs down to o approx the same size as a nalgene bottle.
What can I say other than this pillow is likely my favorite addition to my gear. It’s so comfortable and this size fits perfectly into the pillow hood in my big Agnes sleeping bag. I’ll be getting the larger one for next season for car camping when I have my big air mattress and regular bedding and not using a sleeping bag.
Whether in transit or the back country the Aeros range of lightweight and compact inflatable pillows will award you a comfortable sleep. The Aeros Ultralight pillow has been refined to be light, compact, and comfortable.
The result is a 20 denier pillow with shapely support that can be packed away into a neat, small stuff sack. From the aeroplane to the mountains the Ultralight is the perfect travel companion for those on the move.
We own three of these for travel purposes; one for me, one for my husband, and one in case something goes wrong so we’ll have a backup! It takes up NO space in my suitcase and is fantastic for European hotels which typically provide only one pillow, and often a flat one at that.
I am also allergic to down so if the hotel only has down pillows I can use this one. My husband snores if he doesn’t have at least two pillows so this item is an essential when the hotel will only let us have one per person! (European hotels are like that).
It has saved me in many a travel dilemma; for example being stuck overnight at an airport I can pop on an eyeshade, insert my earplugs, and lay down on the floor with this to get a decent night’s sleep (I use my SeatoSummit poncho on the floor as my ‘groundsheet’) I’ve also used it for car napping.
And of course I have used it camping, but since I usually car camp I typically take my own pillow from home and then I use this as just extra comfort.
While being a side sleeper a pillow goes from luxury to necessities for me. Using the pillow on my ‘21 PCT Thru and many other thousands of miles I’ve come to the following conclusion : The pillow simply isn’t durable enough but because ounces make pounds I continue to use it.
I’ve tried sleeping on dirty clothes, food bag and even unused clothing/weather gear. None of those options are really enjoyable but doable. My Sea to Summit pillow will leak to the point in which the leak cannot be found while on trail.
While a delay on my part due to no/limited email service but coupled with what I feel is an extremely long delay in a response from Sea to Summit, once my email is sent, is also frustrating because I may spend a week or two with less desirable pillow options.
Sea to Summit is kind enough to warranty it but they always send it to my home address which means I have to purchase another one and send it up trail. In closing it’s a comfortable pillow but lacks durability.
I’m a side sleeper with broad shoulders. This pillow inflates to a good size for my head/neck/shoulders and then packs down into a small space saving size. Add a little bit of luxy when camping. I would like to give it a solid 5 stars, unfortunately, it can be quite sippery if you are using a sleeping pad from a different brand, and the “locking” system only works if the sleeping pad as it.
Yet to find a work around, other than stuffing the pillow into the hood of my sleeping bag. Not great for cold weather as my sleeping bag’s hood struggles to accomodate my large head and the pillow. Will keep experimenting on how to “lock” it to my pad without great modifications.
Potentially having something behind your head, like a bag might help it from sliding off.
The Klymit Pillow X is the next generation of inflatable pillows. It features an innovative self centering that design that weighs under 2. 5 oz and packs up smaller than anything else out there. Your head will be oriented perfectly on the pillow and enhance sleepy time.

It would be easy to dismiss the “x shape” part of the pillow as cheap marketing copy. It’s not. This pillow is wonderful because that little indentation makes this pillow perfect for both back sleeping (the back of your skull rests right in the indent and keeps your neck aligned) as well as side sleeping (your ear rests over the indent but the raised sides support your head, also keeping your neck aligned).
I loved my previous UL pillow but as an active sleeper, every night was a game of deflating the pillow to lie on my back, only to reinflate it to lie on my side. I wrote that off as just part of the experience.
No such thing here. I’ve started recommending this pillow to everyone.
This replaced a Thermarest Pillow that sprung a leak at the valve after a few uses. I’ve used this pillow for over 30 nights and it keeps air as it’s supposed to. It’s smaller but provides comfort. If you’re a princess and the pea sleeper this isn’t for you, however, if you want something to provide cushion that packs small and is very light, it’s a good Chinese made minimalist pillow.
Btw, backcountry customer support was awesome. They replaced my Thermarest with this at no charge and passed the warranty date. That makes for a loyal shopper who will come back for bigger transactions.
This is my first inflatable pillow and it’s one of the cheapest so maybe there are better ones out there. However, I’ve used it for two weeks and I like it. It is super light and compact. Therefore, perfect for backpacking.
It’s so light it always moves as soon as I sit up and I have to grope for it. It’s basically a pillow-shaped balloon so I don’t recommend using it outside a tent. You could lose it in a light breeze.
It’s more comfortable and less noisy wrapped in a t-shirt but I’m used to it now so I don’t bother.
The Camp Pillow by TETON Sports has the same innovative fiber fill that comes in our warm, comfortable sleeping bags. This soft pillow is washable and packs down tight so you can travel anywhere. Just right for camping, backpacking and road tripping.
But dont take our word for it. This Camp Pillow is helping hundreds of travelers stay comfortable everywhere they go.
I have a few of these camp pillows. I like them for a few different reasons. I like that they squish down extra small and have their own little stuff sack. I like that they have their own little removable pillowcase, and are so convenient to have along as a car pillow.
I’ve used them to kneel on and they’ve definitely saved my knees a time or two. They are inexpensive and just great to have around. Pick up a couple, they are sure to come in handy.
Having a pillow especially for camping is awesome! I used to bring the pillow from my bed, but it is nice to have one that is packed away and ready for camping along with my sleeping bag. These pillows are so soft, and the are the perfect size.
I also use it as back support when on my camp chair, and it is very comfortable! 10/10 would recommend.

I got this pillow for myself because I always seem to forget my pillow when the kids and I go camping. This pillow is so fantastic, I’ll never go without one for myself again! I truly didn’t expect this pillow to be so comfortable! It is the perfect size, it allows to put my hand under it and tuck my pillow like I tend to do.
The pillow is a beautiful color and so soft. It compacts so small it fits inside the pillowcase I use for my air mattress. So now I can keep those things together, which is so convenient when storing when not in use AND packing for up.
It is super easy to inflate and deflate. It has raised bumps on the bottom to help prevent sliding. It also has this great removable elastic so you can hold it in place around something if you don’t want it moving around.
I highly recommend this pillow, you’ll be so pleased!.
BIG FAN of this pillow. I have tried several camping pillows and this one has all the features that one would want. The size is large enough that if you are a side sleeper it gives your head proper height.
When packed down it is light and takes up very minimal space. The features are fantastic and well thought out, from the silicone dots to prevent sliding, to the retaining strap to put around your sleeping pad, to the valve that allows for quick inflation and deflation.
I would HIGHLY recommend this for people looking for a travel/camping pillow.
Sleep through the night with this turquoise Klymit extra-large inflatable outdoor camping pillow. The lightweight inflatable design easily fits inside your camping backpack, while the cross-tufted profile cradles your head and offers excellent support.

I just used the Klymit XL for the first time on an 8 day wander in Pisgah Natl Forest. It rained 6 days out of the 8, Appalachian temperate rain forest. The Klymit XL supported my head/neck perfectly.
Even more important, it was quiet. I’m hyper vigilant & a restless sleeper. The noise of my head rubbing on a camp pillow annoys me. Forget crinkles & squeaks, I won’t sleep until exhausted. Even sleeping on a tent floor, sans mat/pad, I find too noisy.
The Klymit XL combined with a Tensor Insulated LW was the best outdoors nights sleep I remember having since childhood. The Klymit also only required one inflation in 8 days. Wish the Tensor had done ⅛ that good.
And that was a lot of in tent time with the rain. Pillow was repeatedly used to prop up the head of the Tensor, to support my elbow as I inflated Tensor, even to sit on. I’m 220#s so that’s impressive to me.
And the Klymit packed away to almost nothing. It easily sits in the palm of my hand. I think it’s a great pillow.
I bought two of these in a promo several months back. I otherwise would not have tried them because I already have many types of pillows. Now knowing how good it is, I am glad I got them. I have not had a chance to camp with one during the lockdown, but I wanted to get accustomed to it before backpacking, as I have been disappointed with all of the pillows I have used previously, including REI and Field & Stream synthetic fill pillows, two versions of the inflatable Adventureland pillows sold at Aldi’s, and the ultralight Sea To Summit pillow.
So I have been using it at home for the past two months. This pillow has a brilliant shape. It cradles well my head in the recessed center when I lie on my back. For side sleeping I can move my head to one of the four bulging corners which provide good height, as I have broad, straight shoulders.
None of my other pillows can do both of these things. As for holding air, it is superb. I have only topped it off once. So why isn’t it perfect? First, the old school air valves stick out. And I have seen the fabric peel off of these types of valves, creating a leak on several brands of my pillows and pads that have used them.
In fairness, they were not Klymit products, and I suspect storing that gear in my baking-hot walk-up attic may undermine the glue, so store this in a cool area. The other issue is that the fabric edge of the pillow is sharp, like the edge of cardstock can be sharp.
It will not cut you, but you will feel it on your bare neck. At home, I wrap it in a pillow case. For the trail, I am sticking a homemade UL case made from a light gauge poly-wool shirt. If this pillow had the Sea To Summit finished fabric edges and valve, it would be perfect.
It is definitely a huge improvement in comfort for me over the Sea To Summit and all of the other mentioned pillows. One caution, this XL will mot fit well in most mummy bags. I have transitioned to quilts, so it will not affect me.
I bought the Klymit x pillow recently through an offer on their site and I only paid like $6 plus shipping for this pillow. I imagine this one is made the same way, it’s just xlarge. I have used many backpacking pillows over the years, and I’ve never met one as poorly designed as this.
Have any of you tried deflating it?? It is so frustratingly complicated compared to everything I’ve ever tried. Can’t just fold and push out the air, honestly probably gotta suck the air out. The x design creates pockets of air, and you will never get it as small as it was when you received it.

This pillow really helps me get a good night’s sleep. It works well for me when I sleep on my side and on my back. Its one-way valve enables one to easily inflate and deflate it as needed, which I have sometimes done based on my sleeping position.
Briefly pressing on the valve lets a little bit of air out. The pillow’s covering is soft and I have used it both in warm weather and when winter camping where it stayed warm (I do keep it in the hood of my mummy bag).
The only issue is that when the pillow is not fully inflated then one’s head can move around a bit as the pillow “rolls” a bit with any movement. However, placing the pillow in the hood of a mummy bag reduces this as the hood effectively holds it in place.
The shape and size of the bag’s hood will affect how well the pillow is held in place. Pulling the main plug causes all the air to escape immediately. Despite the stuff sack being tiny, it is large enough to make packing up frustration free.
The main takeaway I offer is that this pillow has a massive benefit over a stuff sack filled with clothing – I actually get good sleep!.
This is my second camping/backpacking pillow: my first was for camping: a very lumpy, big and cheap foam-air mixed pillow which did the job on a budget but i decided to treat myself to a specialized backpacking one since i began multiday backpacking to lessen the weight and the space.
I like the product, it is as advertised. Has a little bit of padding underneath the soft face fabric and i don’t know if that’s what lessens the air noise when i move my head on it (not as noisy as my old air-foam pillow which is great) but i know it does keep the warmth (very nice in cool weather, not a deal breaker on hot summer days for me) Overall very satisfied.
Rolls up nicely in its stuff sack with no ´fighting’. Have used it 10 days so far (2 trips- one with hot summer nights, the other with 6 to 20 degree C nights) and can’t say i see any wear so hopefully it lasts a long time! I also love that the shape stays comfortable even when only inflated halfway (i find it too tall when inflated fully).
First off, I have only had this pillow a couple of weeks. Yeah, it may cost a little more, but the size and weight of this pillow make it worth it. I was looking for something that would easily fit in with my gear without taking up the space my normal household pillow takes up.
This totally fit the bill. I have only used this a couple of times now (first to see how it worked at home which worked great and had a similar feel though in a smaller scale than my home pillow and second on a car camping trip).
This is very lightweight. It totally fit what I was looking for (packed, it fits into a small stuff bag which is smaller than a can of soda and barely weighs anything). That being said, the one negative I ran into with this is that being so light, it would fall off my cot and was kind of like picking up a blow up ball with one hand while it keeps slipping away.
What I ultimately did to correct this problem was to make sure it was well on my bed and tucked right up against my shoulder. The shape of this blown up works well for a side sleeper. My shoulder fits well while it shapes around giving me great support for my head.
You can adjust the firmness by adding or easily taking out air (this is done by pressing the little button inside the inlet portion of the valve. This also packs easily. Open the second portion of the valve to let out all the air.
I fold it small enough to fir the length of the stuff sack, then roll with the valve on the outside. It easily rolls small enough to fit in the stuff sack. Overall, if you are looking for a very compact air pillow that you can easily pack into your gear, this fits that bill.
A great option for backpacking the Exped Air Pillow is lightweight packs down small and delivers ergonomic comfort. A low-profile FlatValve makes it easy to inflate the pillow to its full dimensions and just as easy to return it to its packed size.
Soft surface fabrics deliver next-to-skin comfort and ergonomic styling accommodates varying head positions. Reinforced loops along the backside of the pillow allow you to secure the pillow to your Exped sleeping pad (sold separately) and a small stuff sack is included for storage.
The Exped Air Pillow is available in three sizes. The Medium pillow weighs 2. 6 ounces and has fully inflated dimensions of 15′ x 10. 6′ x 4. 3′. The Large size weighs 3. 2 ounces and measures 18. 1′ x 11.
8′ x 4. 7′. The Xlarge size weighs 3. 7 ounces and measures 20. 4′ x 13. 4′ x 5. 1′.
Light, takes up very little space, well-made, inexpensive, valve system works beautifully, doesnt lose air overnight. However, it is noisy. Crinkling, rustling every time you shift position woke us up many times, waking ourselves and each other.
And however you inflate them, once the weight of your head is on the pillow they are quite unyielding, not plush like a conventional pillow.
On its own this is a decent backpacking pillow since it’s light and easy to inflate. I can’t comment on durability yet since I’ve only used it a few times. To make it exceptional I put it inside a down feather stuff sack.
For side sleeping I prefer to only partially inflate and stick the curved edge towards the top of my head instead of my neck. Definitely getting better sleep with this system than a lump of clothes!.
Not the lightest pillow out there, but certainly not the heaviest either. Exped quality, so nothing to worry about except getting a good night’s sleep on trail. Could have gone smaller and lighter, but then you lose out on being able to position the pillow to find the sweet spot for your style of sleeping.
Use the schnozzel (came with synmat duo) to inflate, works great. It’s a lightweight backpacking pillow, not your fluffy one at home, but gets the job done. Sleep is essential on long treks!.
Incorporating technical features at a weight of just 3 ounces, the inflatable Sea to Summit Aeros Pillow Premium Traveller is a supportive travel pillow that provides a much-needed measure of comfort when napping on planes or trains.
The pillow’s 50D brushed polyester stretch-knit fabric provides excellent next-to-skin comfort. Beneath the surface, a durable thermoplastic polyurethane air bladder creates a supportive base. The pillow curls around your neck, held by snaps, to support your head in a natural position.
The pillow is narrower at the rear so it fits well between you and the headrest. Thanks to an efficient multi-functional valve, inflation and deflation are quick and easy. The pillow’s full in-use dimensions are 15.
3” x 11. 4” x 4. 3”. When deflated, the pillow packs neatly inside its included stuff sack. The Sea to Summit Pillow Premium Traveller is available in your choice of colors.
Originally purchased as a knee pillow while on my thru hike. I have pulled it out of my pack for my husband to use when he falls asleep in his recliner. My dog decided she liked it as a pillow for her.
We used it on our road trip to Amicalola Falls and then again as originally intended for my knee at the hotel after injuring an old injury on the approach trail. Then again on the 2 day road trip back home.
This thing is still going strong and am excited to get the other pillows on my list from Sea to Summit. You can count on durability while the case is perfect for protecting it from accidental punctures while not in use.
It’s expensive for what you get but you want to have one in your bag just in case you need to sleep on the plane or airport sitting in a chair. It’s very light and takes up very little room. It’s comfortable enough to use and sleep but not as comfortable as the big ones stuffed with memory foam.
It’s a tradeoff–but less is more in travel. I blew mine up and it held 90% of the air 24 hours later–that’s good. It’s very easy to blow up and if you open the valve all the air is out in seconds without having to squeeze it for 10 minutes.
Tip–Leave the valve open when you are putting it back in the case–it won’t fit if there is any air left in it. Just get it and keep it in your carry-on is my suggestion unless you can sleep in a chair without one.
I also use it for car travel if I am tied and need to pull over and sleep. Packaging says Made in China.
Bought this product recently for travelling abroad on flights, buses and trains. It is compact, light weight and fits into your luggage or backpack easily. The texture is quite nice when used and feels comfortable.
It fits around my neck easily and doesn’t move around much. It just takes a few breaths to inflate it. Most travel pillows I’ve tried have shapes that don’t feel comfortable when used, they end up not being comfortable when you lean on it.
The colour of the product is nice as well and stylish. If you travel in trains, buses or planes this is something to invest in. I highly recommend this product if you’re looking for a travel size, compact, comfortable and easy to use.
The ALPS Mountaineering Versa Pillow is a must for a good night’s sleep while camping. The extremely small packing size allows you to take the Versa with you wherever you travel. The lightweight, brushed fabric is soft, quiet and comfortable.
A flat valve makes for quick and easy inflation and deflation. Stuff sack included.
I have tried all of the ultralight pillows of all of the expensive brands, and I keep coming back to this one because I am a side sleeper. At 5 inches, this is the tallest pillow and it cradles my head well while allowing for my wider shoulders.
I also like the shape, because the little curve at the bottom means I can get more of the pillow under my head as I am sleeping on my side. I like these pillows so much that I have bought three to have in different places so that I am never without one.
They weigh next to nothing and fold up super small. I don’t just use them for camping, but also on airplanes and in cars.
I’ve always just used clothing in a pillowcase as my camp pillow, but it occurred to me that an inflatable would be useful to own for things like airplanes, so I got this one. It’s great! It’s so small, it inflates in a second, and it is indeed useful for things like airplanes, much more so than those dumb neck pillows.
I just used it for the first time actually for camping, and I liked it better than my old method too. I agree with other reviewers that you can’t inflate it all the way or its too high, but once I figured out the right level of inflate, I was a happy camper.
I bought this in hopes of a lighter weight option instead of my Exped Mega pillow. It is well made and has decent Thickness. For me as a side sleeper, it’s just okay. I made it through the night, but had a little stiffness in my neck.
It is lighter weight though, so this may be combined with my puffer on backpacking trips where I need to keep my weight low.
An ultra-lightweight option for backpackers and travelers, the inflatable Big Agnes AXL Air Pillow fits conveniently inside the pillow ‘barn’ on most Big Agnes sleeping bags (sold separately). It delivers far more comfort than its miniscule 1.
6 ounce weight would suggest. The 4-way stretch nylon fabric on the exterior of the pillow provides next-to-skin comfort and built-in advanced heat reflective technology adds a touch of warmth. An internal antimicrobial treatment helps to extend the life of the pillow.
An integrated two-way valve makes inflation and deflation easy. The baffled pillow has fully-inflated dimensions of 16′ x 10′ x 4′ and it packs down to just 4′ x 2. 5′ x 2′. A stuff sack is included that safely stows the pillow in your pack.
This is my new favorite pillow for two reasons. Firstly it is only 45grams so why would you ever leave it behind! Secondly it is a better shape for me being a bit thinner in height. The thinner pillow works alot better for stomach and back sleeping.
I used to use the sea to summit aeros deluxe pillow (great but too tall and really for side sleepers IMO) and would have to deflate it quite a bit. The semi deflated pillow was not very stable but this pillow is.
I was worried about the material on my face but found it acceptable and not harsh. I have only used this twice so far so cannot comment on durability. I think as with most ultralight products it will last well if you take a little care with it.
I was caught off guard when I got it by how small in size it is when it’s packed up. It literally fits in my palm and it’s weight is unnoticeable. Only took 2 breaths to inflate and has a nice soft outer fabric.
Haven’t been able to take it out in the woods yet. Leaving in a week for 10 days. Will update.
I ordered AXL Air pillow from Big Agnes for my son who was going to WCT. He was very happy with my choice. This pillow is very light and small, so it is almost nothing to carry, yet large enough for comfortable sleep.
The award-winning Fillo Luxury backpacking and camping pillow brings clever design to an often-overlooked piece of gear: the humble camp pillow. Nemo has redesigned the classic pillow, using a combination of a baffled air cell, thick luxury foam, a soft, washable microsuede or jersey cover, and an ergonomic valve.
The result is a pillow that is soft and yielding like your pillow at home, feels big when cradling your head, yet packs surprisingly small. Fillo Luxury offers a larger size and shock cord lacing on the underside of the pillow to hold a folded up sweatshirt or gear to add loft.
This is especially helpful for broad-shouldered side sleepers. The integrated stuff sack is about the size of a grapefruit and weighs ounces – small enough to carry into the backcountry. And while the Fillo is amazing in the backcountry, it’s just as great for other adventures.
You can bring it on an airplane or long road trip, or use it as everyday lumbar support. It’s your new best friend.
I don’t understand what the complaining is all about with the foam fill and plastic bag insert? IT WORKS AND IT’S LIGHT WEIGHT! This is a luxury camp pillow and you will not regret the extra size when you put your head down.
I haven’t had any problems with durability and frankly I’m not concerned. I trust the R&D and materials that went into this pillow. I had been using a Fillo deluxe for years and the plastic bag insert has never failed.
Why the upgrade? Bigger and better for side sleeping and even on my back, it holds and supports more of my head being a more square shape. Yes, it’s expensive but given the years of use from my last Fillo, it was worth it.
Get it on sale with Moosejaw and it’s not so bad. Plus rewards. Plus excellent customer service. Oh, and best of all, the stuff sack is slightly more forgiving than my previous Fillo, which quite frankly, are ridiculous and unnecessarily too small and tight on tolerances to repack easily.
How many times I’ve wanted to throw it after bending fingernails cramming it it it’s stuff sack- too many! Treat yourself and your fingernails to the ultimate camping/backpacking/travel pillow.
I’ve purchased a lot of pillows, pads, bags, and quilts in the last few years, looking for the perfect backpacking sleep system for active side sleepers. My ideal sleep system should be cozy and warm to let me sleep all night and wake up with the sun, refreshed.
I’ve cracked the code. The NEMO Fillo Pillow is the perfect mix of comfort, size, and weight. It feels like a travel memory foam pillow, but it’s much lighter and packs down smaller. I love the inch of doughy foam for comfort paired with the air chamber for height and shape.
The pillow case is soft on my face and can be machine washed when you get home. And one more pro-tip, the foam pocket is accessible so you could add more padding if you needed/wanted. My ultimate backpacking sleeping system for active side sleepers includes the NEMO Fillo Pillow, Western Mountaineering TerraLite bag, and NEMO Quasar 3D Insulated Sleeping Pad.
I am embarrassed by how much I love this pillow. Bought this pillow for camping as it was the best/most comfortable thing I could find in the sports store but after one night use on a packing camp, this has become my pillow for everything.
I normally sleep on my stomach or side but I’ve found this thing to be comfortable enough for me to actually get good sleep on my back even. The two biggest parts for me are the easy inflation adjustment (so I can make it thin to put my arm under for stomach sleep or not hurt my neck on back sleep, or thick to fill the shoulder gap on side sleep) and the soft cushion top to be easy on the cheek and ears.
Wherever I use it I just dial in the size (the valve makes inflation/deflation a lot easier than typical inflatables) and then I’m set for the night. I use it as my regular at home now even and on planes and in hotels when I’m traveling.
Travel is a great use because even on quick trips it defates and fits in my laptop bag. Also love that the she’ll is removable for washing. I will say the $40 price is more pricy then I would normally spend on a pillow even though I generally like nemo as a brand, but I do have to admit that I don’t regret this purchase at all.
Utilizing lightweight, compressible 700-fill down insulation, the inflatable Exped Down Pillow offers plush comfort that is suitable for camping while being lightweight and packable enough for backpacking or travel.
A combo valve with a one-way flap and deflation pin makes it easy to inflate the pillow to its full dimensions and just as easy to return it to its packed size. Ergonomic 3-dimensional construction accommodates varying head positions.
The brushed tricot cover maximizes next-to-skin comfort and can be removed entirely for washing. Fabric eyelets on the back allow you to secure the pillow to your Exped sleeping pad (sold separately).
The Exped Down Pillow is available in your choice of size options. Each pillow includes a stuff sack.
Took this along on my recent trek on the Laugavegur Trail. It’s still an air pillow, however, my start of day without a sore neck or shoulders before putting a pack on? Absolutely worth any small amount of extra weight that this added to the pack compared to the old stuff sack full of clothes that I was used to.
There’s no going back for me – this is going with me on any trek. Might even bring it with me if I’m doing a sleep over somewhere and don’t know if the pillows there are going to cut it 😉 (I may be kidding, but I’m not sure, this thing is comfy!).
I bought this pillow to travel with while on a 3 month backpacking trip through Ecuador. So glad I did I used it on the plane ,busses , hostels and camping. It’s very comfortable and you can adjust it’s firmness very easily.
I tried out many different backpacking pillows over the years before finally settling on this one. I now have two of these (one gray and one red) and have been very pleased with them. The thin layer of down and top fabric make this a huge improvement over most inflatable pillows.
I don’t feel like I am sleeping on a balloon, which is something I experienced with pretty much every other inflatable pillow I have tried. These are also pretty easy to maintain. You can remove the inner inflatable bladder and then hand wash/line dry the shell.
The Exped DeepSleep Pillow offers plush comfort with an ergonomic shape, brushed tricot cover, and lofty foam fill. This luxurious pillow is the perfect companion for camping or travel. The three-dimensional construction and ergonomic shape accommodate varying head positions, so it’s comfortable through the night.
Foam pieces make up the fill of the pillow, making it soft and pliable but still supportive. The brushed tricot cover offers cozy next-to-skin comfort. The Exped DeepSleep Pillow is available in two sizes, Medium (15′ x 11′ x 5.
1′) and Large (18. 9′ x 11. 4′ x 5. 9′), and your choice of color options.
I just got back from a 5 day back country trip and this pillow was a dream. Small and light, easy to pull out and took shape quickly. It supported my head and neck and didn’t move around on my sleeping pad.
I’ve been using this jacket for two years now and am very satisfied with it. I use it in a variety of sports, activities and conditions, but primarily for mountaineering and backpacking. The highlights:-lightweight-packable-durable-comfortable-well-fitting-breathableAfter two years of use, the jacket is still in great shape: all the seams and high-wear areas are completely intact.
Indeed the jacket still likes fairly new despite heavy use. It breaths well and is completely waterproof and I like how the pockets are high enough so as to not be caught behind my backpack waist strap.
The reason that I give the jacket a 4-star review is because I really wish it had pit-zips. Another nice addition would be a a cord that allows you to tighten the area around the neck. The jacket currently has strings allowing you to tighten the hood around the face, but when it is cold I can feel heat escaping out around my neck and it would be nice to be able to cinch this area down.
I don’t have any complaints, but just feel these changes would make a rock-solid product a perfect one. If Arc’teryx made these two changes, the jacket would be an absolute 5-star product. As a disclaimer, I am affiliated with Gore for product testing of Gore-tex products for the purpose of product review and recommendation.
Just the size I needed and so thrilled to have this pillow until I saw the latest inflatable version. Though haven’t tried it outdoors, it felt contouring to the head and neck area at just the right firmness and would be a light addition to my camping/hunting gears.

I washed, as instructed. I then used on a recent camping trip for 3 nights. It worked fine. I actually had another little pillow I stuffed into the sleeve. I just washed the pillow again (I washed on delicate, cold, with other pillows) The seam has come undone on half of one side, stuffing is coming out, sleeve is now just a flap of fabric.
The fabric is completely frayed, so it’s not able to be sewed again. I’m very disappointed. I wouldn’t choose this pillow unless you never plan to wash it.
I bought this as a portable lightweight pillow for travel to and from work. It rolls up nicely and when you pull it out and give it a few fluffs it turns into a super comfortable option. It rolls up small enough to fit in my backpack as well.
As a camp pillow these are “okay”. not horrible, but not really that good either. I was actually about to sell the two I had, and decided to wash them before hand. They both exploded in the washer and had to be thrown away.
Seams burst and all of the stuffing came out. I had cut the tags off long ago, so I am not sure what the proper care instructions are, but definitely DO NOT wash them in a washing machine.
The MegaPillow is the mega pillow for mega comfort and fits perfectly with the popular MegaMat. It is ideal for every camping and van adventure and for all those who never want to do without the luxury of a large pillow.
The 3D shape and the almost vertical sides create an extra large platform. The skin-friendly and velvety soft tricot nylon material is padded with synthetic insulation to ensure a comfortable sleeping experience – just like in your own bed.
In addition, the MegaPillow can be adjusted in height by releasing air. This makes it ideal for side and back sleepers as well as stomach sleepers. With practical fabric eyelets on the sides, this sleeping companion can also be attached to a mat.
The inner air cushion is removable, so the pillow case can be washed if necessary. The robust FlatValve ensures quick inflation and deflation.
I have been on the market for a camp pillow throughout the entire fall season. Have tried a few with no success. The Exped Mega pillow is a good product with some things that I did not like. The Good.
Light, big and comfortable. It is easy to inflate and also packed back into it’s bag very easily. It was almost the one. The Bad. there is a little pin that is used to let out the air from the inflation hole.
This did not make sense to me and I and just used my finger to let out the air. In the end, the green air valve which let the the air out was lost into the pillow. Other issue was that the air volume was hard to get right.
Too much air and it was pretty hard, not enough air and it was like a waterbed. Overall I exchanged for the Exped Down Pillow which has more insulation.
So bummed about this pillow. I bought for camping and backpacking and it held up really for one trip. One. Next time I opened it up the plastic interior was filled a ton of small holes. I don’t beat up my equipment, and keep it unfolded when I’m not camping.
Can’t even begin to understand how the scratches/holes formed, but it really put a damper on my last trip. Wouldn’t recommend.
Nice pillow. Bigger than I needed. I would give if 5 stars but the instructions conflict with how it is sold. It says to “store-out of the sack”. Yet that is how they sell it. ,and store it. The deflation pin is a novel idea.
Requires a firm inflation or it bottoms out. I use as a sleeping knee pad. Works great. Feels great.
Cocoon? Air-Core Down U-Shaped Pillow feature an inflatable air core underneath a layer of hydrophobic down fill. combining comfort and support with minimum packing size. A twist valve allows you to customize your level of comfort and support instantly.
A small hidden zipper allows you to remove the bladder so that the shell may be washed or any bladder punctures repaired.
TranslateShow in original languagePros: Stofje is heerlijk zacht.
When you’re traveling, camping, backpacking, or on a road trip or airplane a good pillow can make all the difference. The soft top fabric offers superior next-to-skin comfort. You choose how firm your pillow is by adjusting the air with the rapid inflation/deflation valve.
This pillow packs down tight and only weighs 12 oz (. 3 kg). Don’t leave home with out it!.
Well, if you are looking at these reviews it’s probably because you are looking for a travel pillow and need reassurance that you will be happy with your purchase. I’ve used this pillow several times this past winter on overnight camp out trips ice fishing and provided me with the best sleep imaginable! Literally unscrew the cap, wait a few seconds and perfect pillow! Super soft, ability to modify/adjust size/firmness and the best part is how easy it rolls up and fits into the included carry pouch.
which is large enough so you don’t fight trying to fit it back. Yay! It’s so compact and light you will wonder why you ever tried to bring a regular sized pillow from your home. Just buy it, you won’t regret it.
I love how quickly this pillow inflates and I like that it can hold different amounts of air to create a different shape without collapsing the pillow. There is a foam layer in the bottom which I think really helps the shape as well.
I think it will do well when I’m sleeping and it holds up to my movements. Recently, I’ve also been using it as lower back support while I’m at my desk and it does really well with that too. Overall, great product, would recommend.
I have neck issues and must use a water pillow, but that’s not an option for camping. Luckily I found this. It rolls up very small but when inflated it’s big enough. It’s actually pretty thick if you blow it up some.
Definitely inflate it for a couple days before going camping to let the foam expand. Currently on an extended trip out west and I’ve woken every morning without a stiff neck ! Never thought it would happen.
Infinetly adjustable with the air valve. Seems durable.
If you are the type of ounce-counting backpacker who hasn’t been able to justify carrying a pillow in your pack the ergonomic Exped Air Pillow UL may change your mind. Even the Large size of the pillow weighs just 2.
3 ounces and takes up hardly any space in your pack. The pillow’s 20D stretch tricot face fabric provides next-to-skin comfort and an ergonomic design accommodates varying head positions. Reinforced loops along the side of the pillow allow you to secure the pillow to your Exped sleeping pad (sold separately).
A low-profile one-way valve makes it easy to inflate the pillow to its full dimensions and just as easy to return it to its packed size. The Exped Air Pillow UL is available in two sizes. The Medium pillow weighs just 1.
7 ounces and has fully inflated dimensions of 15′ x 10. 6′ x 3. 9′. The in-use measurements of the Large size are 18. 1′ x 11. 8′ x 4. 7′.
It doesn’t weigh much and it’s heaps better than my balled up extra clothes as a pillow. Seriously. I’ve done two thru hikes just using balled up clothes and this pillow being in my pack now gives me major regret.
Could’ve had so many more nights with excellent sleep. Only downside is the pillow on it’s own can feel a bit hot on the face if side sleeping. A buff as a pillowcase solves this problem.
I have never used a camping pillow before but am so stoked that I bought this one. Extremely light, so easy to inflate, and works wonders for neck support while outside. Will always bring this pillow with me on future backpacking and camping trips.
After testing out a variety of backpacking pillows for side sleepers, we’ve come to the conclusion that the best one is the Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow. This pillow is extremely comfortable, supportive, and easily compressible, making it perfect for backpacking.
It’s also relatively affordable, making it a great option for budget-minded side sleepers.
