20 Best Airbrush Cleaner For Acrylic Paint (2022 Updated)

I’m new to the customizing sneaker scene but all to familiar with the brush. That how it all felt when I started working on my first customers order. All those how to’s and products intro tutorials made me feel like I could know what to expect.

I’ve used this cleaner for about 15 years and am always impressed by how well it works. The cake form is simple to use and easy to store. It lasts a long time. It works well for cleaning brushes of both watercolor and acrylic paints (don’t use oils so can’t comment).

I try to keep my brushes rinsed well during an acrylic painting session, and avoid letting a layer of paint harden on the bristles, but I know if that I leave a little too much paint on the brush, Masters will clean it right up at the end of the session.

It’s possible to clean off paint that has hardened for a much longer time on the bristles, but I don’t recommend counting on it. Not too long ago, I purchased a set of good quality acrylic brushes (both taklon and synthetic bristle) and have used Masters immediately after each paint session.

The brushes are in better shape now than when they were new. A reliable product that works.

I use this for both oils and acrylics, have had my pan for years. Often I go straight to the soap, but sometimes I do a “pre-clean” with a solvent or walnut oil. Then I do a final wash with Masters to get the solvent or oil out and condition the brush.

It always did a great job. I had a newer script liner that I had not cleaned properly and it was split into sections, a Utrecht #10 filbert that had some dried paint along one edge. I used this soap and was amazed to see that paint come out.

It took patience and a couple of goes to get all the dried paint off, but, hey, my fault for not being more careful (those late night paint sessions, slacked on the cleaning). The brushes are like new.

So many people go into miniature painting without considering that brushes, much like people, have to be washed after heavy use. Or any use, really. Master’s is one of the most well-known brands, and it works well enough.

I paint with quite a lot of Kolinsky brushes – Master’s soap has helped lengthen the natural longevity of my brushes across the years, and honestly I don’t think I’d ever stop using it. The soap puck DOES have a tendency to shrink if exposed to water through gaps in the sides though, so exercise caution.

I am so pleased with my Full Gleam Stainless Steel Cleaner and Microfiber Mitt Polish Kitt. I’ve not had a housecleaner come in since the start of covid and it really showed. My husband did the best he could.

Let me clarify. I’m 79 and quite limited with what I can do. However, I put on the mitt and sprayed small areas at a time a did my whole kitchen today! It may have taken the whole day but I did it! It looks glorious! I’ve never had it sparkle so clean even when my appliances were brand new! I’m certainly going to explore t what other products I can use for other chores because cleaning and polishing my stainless appliances was SO easy.

I love stainless steel appliances BUT I hate the fingerprints that appear daily. I have tried so many “stainless steel” cleaners and nothing has worked until now. Full Gleam Stainless Steel Cleaner is awesome and the mitt that comes with the product might be the key, who knows.

Writing reviews because of the #sweepstakes prod. I use Liquitex Ultra Heavy Gloss Medium & their Gloss Varnish for doing hydroabrasion (also called water abrasion & a number of other terms) on porcelain and bone china before they are fired.

Instead of shellac, wax, or modge podge which almost all ruin your brushes, or aren’t heavy duty enough, or don’t fire out well enough in the kiln, both the Liquitex products you can use your best brushes which help you create the best designs, by painting the varnish or medium on the dry clay surface, sometimes layering more varnish/medium to get more raised areas after you use a damp sponge to wipe away the clay in between the varnished areas, which leaves the protected areas dry and raised in relief.

Most products just have so many drawback and the Liquitex products have zero drawbacks for this process, which when used with a clay that will fire translucent leaves beautiful designs that can be highlighted with various ceramic colorants or left completely white and translucent, polished with diamond pads.

It is a water based product so it comes off my brushes easily and I can keep my best brushes in good shape. I add a little vegetable dye to it usually so I can see my designs better and how thick I have made them, but that burns out in the firing, and this product cleanly burns out in the kiln with no increase in fumes like with shellac, And unlike some of the other products used for this technique, it burns out without a trace, not leaving grungy bits that have to be cleaned off or even dremeled off.

It also really doesn’t smell like the shellac does. I have tried shellac, various kinds of wax-ceramic and non-ceramic, and modge podge, which was supposed to be the savior for this technique but it turns out Liquitex mediums and varnishes actually are! No cons whatsoever for this product for my technique.

I don’t know what I’d do without this stuff when thinning acrylic ink. Too much water, and the ink puddles and bleeds. But with the medium, no problem. The ink can be thinned indefinitely and the effects of oil painting glaze can be achieved.

Additionally, the satin medium well matches the semi-gloss of the ink. It can itself be thinned considerably with water to lay flat and not get that thick, plastic look. Luminous effects are within reach.

Lovely stuff.

I love to add texture and some understated glimmer. This product is the most versatile glass bead product I have used. After I have finished my underpainting and I have worked out my focus I absolutely love to use texture in some areas to move the eye towards a focal point.

This can be mixed with your paint or used on top of your work in the areas you want to direct attention. This second use is so important because if like myself you like to work o the fly, at times my intended focal point can change.

So I would use it directly above. It goes on like an opaque colour but dries completely clear. However it causes the colour (mixed in or below) to bounce the light around and give the most beautiful changes of light and colour.

It really is my “secret weapon”. If you work in abstracts or wish to apply resin, of boy, just wait and then move your artwork in the light and watch the colours. It is so amazing I really hope you try it.

I have been trying to spray with watered-down paints, but after watching youtube started to mix paints with thinners as they dry faster and do not run. I have never airbrushed before, all this is new to me as this is my new year’s hobby and enjoying it as relaxing apart from when things do not go to plan and do run.

My wife uses this to clean brushes in painting projects. she changes colors often and requires clean brushes each time. This is the best thinner we have found. If she keeps using Acrylic paint we will keep reordering.

but since the amount is usually small, I just get this thinner, since I don’t want to experiment with using rubbing alcohol, or even vodka instead of the thinner. If I were going to soak a lot of parts or otherwise use a lot, I’d be going straight to the rubbing alcohol (or acetone for cleaning) and not this stuff.

It’s too expensive for such uses. then again i use cheap airbrushes, I couldn’t say if the seals in the AB will stand up to acetone, or not but so far I have not had a problem i could point to using it.

Anyway if i buy anything that says Tamiya i expect two things 1-it’s gonna cost me and 2-it’ll do what they say it does. So for thinning acrylics, doesn’t matter whose, I use this thinner and it hasn’t let me down yet.

I was A little apprehensive about buying the brush cleaner but Angelus hasn’t failed me so i splurged. Let me tell you when i finished Cleaning all my brushes (even the ones i thought were clean) i was So shocked at the amount of paint build up in the bristles.

My brushes look good as new. So worth the buy!.

I just received my 8 piece set of Apple Barrel 13411 Acrylic Craft 8 piece set, these are all matte finish and only one hour drying time and clean up with soap and water. I have to many things that I can’t wait to get painting.

I started of airbrushing using a inexpensive airbrush that always clogged up after a few minutes of use despite the quality of paint I used or how much I thinned down my paint. I purchased the Iwata Neo after reading and watching product reviews and I have to say that I’m real happy with my purchase.

The airbrush tares down real quick for cleaning and doesn’t have the clogging issue my other brush did. Parts for our are readily available for it at my local hobby store should I ever need to replace something on it.

I liked the Iwata so much that I bought the Eclipes for better detail work as well as larger models. I definitely recommend this airbrush to anyone just getting started in the hobby and those with more skills than me recommend it for those on the professional level.

I have a number of airbrushes, high end and low end, and they all have their quirks and issues. I was looking for a reasonably-priced airbrush to do some medium to fine work on 1/48 scale plastic and this is my first Iwata.

Color me impressed. It feeds well, doesn’t clog as long as you thin properly and use the correct air pressure for your media (I use acrylics for the most part, thinned to a skim milk consistency, at 12-20 psi), and is very comfortable to hold and maneuver.

The double-action trigger is a real joy too, being very precise and easy to control. As an added bonus the set comes with a small and large bowl. Cleanup is easy using the correct thinner for your media, and as with all airbrushed just don’t let it sit long enough for paint to dry in the bowl (but you will, at least once, as have we all).

No matter your skill level you will enjoy this hassle-free, reasonably priced brush.

im a 50 year old artist whos owned pasche badger point zero master airbrush to name a few. Just got done laying down paint for the second time with this brush. I adjusted the air pressure from 18psi to 15psi according to my regulator using my vallejo mettalic acrylic that has been thinned a little and with a drop of flow improver.

wow even with no stop needle limiter this brush finely atomized the paint gor me from a large paint pattern to a fine line thanks to the smooth and precise trigger. could never get these results with the point zero or master airbrush.

Even if this unit is made in china the prescission is there not like the point zeros or master airbrushes. i might suggest not running real long paint sessions without periodic cleaning just to keep it running flawlessly.

Iwata recomends only removing the nozzle when necasary. ive read reveiws where people have run into problems but that shouldnt be a problem. This brush comes with a 5 year warranty. Just get into the habbit of thouroghly ceaning it every time you clean it and you should have no problems.

A great product. Useful for delaying tip dry with paints and primers through the airbrush. Especially useful in spraying metallics you may not want to thin with Airbrush Thinner. Also helpful spraying pure white paint’s and primers that can dry very quickly because of the pigments used.

Something I didn’t know. Flow improver and thinner are different! Flow improver helps prevent tip dry and clogging when using acrylic paints. It works fantastically and has made painting much easier with far less stopping for cleaning and unclogging.

Thinner is used with the polyurethane primers and will actually lead to more clogging with normal acrylic paint. I found out the hard way! Great product. Recommended.

I use this with all my acrylic hobby paints including Games Workshop ones. I put a couple of drops in airbrush, then put the paint in the cup, a tiny burst of air/paint to push some flow improver through and then cover the nozzle to back flow and mix the paint (so it bubbles in the cup).

It really helps achieve the right consistency and prevent blockages. I’ve got a temperamental airbrush that was constantly giving me problems and this has almost entirely eliminated the issues I was having.

I use the Testors Thinner 1148 to thin down the pigment from a well known commercial matte enamel paint I use to brush undercoat wargames figures. The enamel paint tin is turned upside down so the pigment settles on the lid.

The tin is then turned the correct way up, opened and some of the pigment scooped out onto a container. The Testors Thinner is then used to thin down the pigment before applying to figures. The Testors Thinners keeps the pigment matte.

I’ve used Testors paints since I was a kid for models. The paint was always high quality and long lasting without fading over time. Now my use for the paint is more for touch up work on statues and other things around the home.

The various color paints I ordered arrived quickly, and well packaged in bubble wrap since they are in glass bottles. (about a dozen different colors and a large bottle of thinner) All the colors looked new and fresh.

Ready to mix or use as I need. There was only one small jar of (rubber) colored paint that would not open with a reasonable twist, and I will have to get something grippy to try and get the lid off. So I couldnt tell from the outside if the paint was still good inside yet.

Testors paints are very well known for their caps to be a real pain to remove once opened, IF you dont clean off the edge of the bottle well before closing them up again. (recommended anyway, to keep the seal and your paints from drying out during storage sooner.

) Other than a single troublesome jar (in a color not used very often) I am happy with the paints. None were drying out or looked (chunky) as they might after sitting too long on a shelf with poor climate control.

Though adding a few drops of paint thinned to the paint, and stirring it a bit will often restore the paint to usable form. Just don’t add a lot, If you do you might have to apply more coats to get the colors looking best, or leave the mixed paint in an open bowl for a few to allow it to thicken back up a bit before applying.

I am writing this review to be entered in #sweepstakes contest. However, I want to say Testors is always my go to paint for 56 years. Great quality and the price is very low. In this age of covid and closing hobby stores, I can always be sure Blick will have me covered.

I actually thought my brushes were clean until I used the Master’s Brush Cleaner. After repeatedly working in liquid soap and rinsing until absolutely no color appeared I decided to use the Master’s Brush Cleaner to condition the brushes.

Much to my surprise the Cleaner released even more oil paint! My brushes haven’t looked this great since they were new! The Cleaner works on all mediums and Brush types.

Got this for priming with my airbush. Only done a few things with it so far but it seems to pe pretty good. The grey is quite light, It’s like 20-30% grey if 0% is white and 100% is black, and I was hoping for a more 50% colour like mechanicus standard grey from citadel but it is easily mixed.

The paints are sorta thick out of the bottle but it has that nice nozzle that vallejo paints do that make them great for using in an airbrush. I mixed mine 1:2ish with airbrush thinner and that worked well.

These primers really are what finished my little airbrush setup for the time being, now I can say I completely free of aerosol cans for priming and it’s really great having that freedom. I can see brushing this on would be a piece of cake as well but I haven’t tried that either.

Overall pretty great, preferably I would have the grey darker but that is easily fixed with mixing paints.

I can’t say Vallejo Primer is “entertaining” by itself, but the results of using it are quite entertaining. Way back in the 60s and 70s I used an Imrie-Risley product for priming soft plastic miniatures (polyethylene – polyurethane) and it was a unique PVC primer of the type I later learned could be used for sealing swimming pools and automotive parts.

My supplies ran out eventually, and I used whatever else I could find, and while I can’t knock the Rustoleum or Krylon plastic primers, I’ve been looking for a product for years that would really adhere to plastics like the old PVC primer, which not only shrunk to show fine detail, but it was bonded to the surface like glue, and any paint would stick to the primer like nobody’s business.

The Vallejo primer is just about as good. If you work at it, just to prove a point, you can scrape any primer off of any surface, but why go to all that bother. This stuff will hold up as well as can be expected, and Vallejo has a wide array of perfect colors.

You can’t beat that.

Always was fan of Vallejo products. Good coverage, good adhesion. Two negative things: polyurethane tends to clog the airbrush Really hard (nearly impossible) to sand without ruin the whole primed surface.

But if you don’t have to sand it is good product to use.

I started my plastic model hobby again. I was not familiar with different types of paints. When I was in high school I dreamt of getting an airbrush and paint plastic models. I finally bought an airbrush after decades.

After watching Youtube videos, I opted for acrylic paint. I found the cheapest ones in Walmart. I didn’t know that I had to dilute–thin out the paint. I used Youtube videos to learn different methods to hin out the Walmart paint, using rubbing alcohol, windex, dawn soap, windshield cleaner, distilled water, nothing worked.

This product, I used it with Walmart paint. It worked. Nice consistency, and it adheres well. I would use more paint and less of this thinner, and it worked great. On my airbrush, I used the 0. 3mm needle.

Mt airbrush is the Touchpoint airbrush. Also, product is odorless. Product received 4 stars because of the price.

Works as advertised, great to thin Vallejo premium acrylic paints, and other brands. As usual, Sunward hobbies are absolutely great, each time I place an order in the morning, I receive a tracking number the same day.

I am new to airbrushing and up till now was using several different homebrew mixes. None worked as good as this product. Love it. Thins and helps with paint flow. No dry tip when thinned to a proper consistency.

This really helps me out. Thinning for my airbrush. Much better then distilled water. Helps out Tip Dry. Thinning your paint is a must.

It’s my wife’s favourite color and wanted a model painted that shade; so I had to buy it. It’s actually a nice shade. Air brushes very nicely. Happy wife, happy life and let’s me but more models.

This is made especially for plastics. It is not full strength thinner. The full strength will melt plastic very very quickly. Ask me how I know!!! This also thins acrylics well and gives a nice finish.

Not recommended for beginners. Cleans up your airbrushes and accessories extremely well. As well as regular paint brushes and also will thin filler putties. Only recommend this for use on plastics. Ive been modeling for 47 years and this is the best possible product for the hobby as lacquer thinner goes.

Dont buy it from the hardware store unless youve been working with this type of product for a long long time. ENJOY!!!.

Mixes well with paint making it flow very well for airbrushing. Watching the paint flow from the airbrush onto the model was very entertaining I hope the paint effect lasts. I learnt that adding this to paint definitely thins it.

Works excellently as a levelling thinner. Ideal for laquer-based primers and surfacers. Safe to use in airbrushes. An essential for scale modellers. Superb product.
