So far really nice stories, easy to read and good length per chapter but not too long. There a lots of themes which help my little one question his understanding of the world and social situations and how these can differ in different environments.
Really nice stories that keep him interested and want to read more.
Our children love being outdoors and are always encouraged to make new adventures either with or without us. These books have helped to build on what knowledge we have already shared with them but also to develop their own ideas on adventures.
Welcome back to Virgin River with the books that inspired the hit Netflix series. Shelby McIntyre has big plans–plans that include finding Mr. Right. Her dream man will have a clean-shaven jaw, creases in his pants and hopefully an advanced degree.
What she gets is rugged Luke Riordan. At twenty-five, after five years as her mother’s caregiver, it’s time for Shelby to experience freedom and adventure. Time for travel, college and romance. But when she visits Virgin River, she runs into Luke Riordan, decidedly not whom she has in mind.
A handsome Black Hawk pilot, Luke exited the army after twenty years, four wars and having been shot out of the sky three times. At thirty-eight, he’s tough and jaded. His major was in one-night stands, with a minor in commitment avoidance.
Technically, these two are all wrong for one another. But sometimes what you want and what you need are two different things. two very good things. A Virgin River Novel Book 1: Virgin River Book 2: Shelter Mountain Book 3: Whispering Rock Book 4: A Virgin River Christmas Book 5: Second Chance Pass Book 6: Temptation Ridge Book 7: Paradise Valley Book 8: Forbidden Falls Book 9: Angel’s Peak Book 10: Moonlight Road Book 11: Promise Canyon Book 12: Wild Man Creek Book 13: Harvest Moon Book 14: Bring Me Home for Christmas Book 15: Hidden Summit Book 16: Redwood Bend Book 17: Sunrise Point Book 18: My Kind of Christmas Book 19: Return to Virgin River.
Love these Robyn Carr /Virgin River series. Now on my 6 book. Reading them in order as they are wrote. After watching 2 seasons of Virgin River on Netflix these books are so easy to follow. Very good read.
The newest Virgin River book by Robyn Carr puts our heroine, Shelby MacIntyre, in quite a dilemma. She has her dream man who is clean shaven, respectable and well educated, but she longs for Luke Riordan, a Blackhawk pilot who has been in four wars and is as jaded as they come.
He hates commitments and prefers one night stands, so the last thing he expects is to be drawn to Shelby. Luke knows they are complete opposites and shouldn’t have a chance together, but they are in Virgin River! I love the way the people in the town show them the way to finding love and how unexpected things can happen when they are worth fighting for.
This is Robyn’s second book in the Virgin River series and is just as charming and sexy as the first.
An anthology of seventeen mystery-themed adventures for the world’s greatest roleplaying game. Candlekeep attracts scholars like a flame attracts moths. Historians, sages, and others who crave knowledge flock to this library fortress to peruse its vast collection of books, scribbled into which are the answers to the mysteries that bedevil them.
Many of these books contain their own mysteries ̶—each one a doorway to adventure. Dare you cross that threshold? · 17 mystery-themed D&D adventures, each tied to a book discovered in the famed library fortress of Candlekeep · Easy to run as stand-alone mini adventures or to drop into your home campaign · Adventures span play from levels 1 to 16 · Includes a full poster map of Candlekeep, plus detailed descriptions of the various locations, characters, and creatures that reside within it · Introduces a variety of Dungeons & Dragons monsters, items, and non-player characters (NPCs)Candlekeep Mysteries is a collection of seventeen short, stand-alone D&D adventures designed for characters of levels 1–16.
Each adventure begins with the discovery of a book, and each book is the key to a door behind which danger and glory await. These adventures can be run as one-shot games, plugged into an existing Forgotten Realms campaign, or adapted for other campaign settings.
This book also includes a poster map of the library fortress and detailed descriptions of Candlekeep and its inhabitants.
These adventures are great on their own as one (or two-ish) shots, but also make excellent filler in a campaign when the DM needs a few sessions to let their batteries recharge. I very much appreciated the inclusiveness present in a lot of these adventures; it is good to see D&D stretch itself and become more welcoming for diverse sets of players.
Of course, some people have seen this as the biggest negative of these adventures. To them, I say that you can still have fun with these adventures, just modify them to better fit your idea of what fantasy can be.
Candlekeep Mysteries has fantastic modular adventures that you can run as minis, one-shots, fold into your own homebrew campaign world or even turn into a campaign of its own! It ha story hooks, suggestions for level scaling and plenty of variation for you to choose what best suits your players.
This is definitely a D&D book for a Dungeon Master, as it is ultimately a campaign book (of sorts) rather than a source book. However, if you’re a D&D player wanting a gift for your DM, or you’re keen to try one of these adventures at your table, this is a great book to treat your DM to!.
The adventures we have tried are all great. There’s something for every niche, from horror to romp. They’re easy to adjust for character level, as long as it’s not too far. It’s been easy to insert them as a short session or two in our ongoing campaign, especially since one character is from Candlekeep.
New York Times bestseller! Artemis Fowl meets Men in Black in this exhilarating debut middle grade fantasy, the first in a trilogy filled with #blackgirlmagic. Perfect for fans of Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, the Percy Jackson series, and Nevermoor.
Amari Peters has never stopped believing her missing brother, Quinton, is alive. Not even when the police told her otherwise, or when she got in trouble for standing up to bullies who said he was gone for good.
So when she finds a ticking briefcase in his closet, containing a nomination for a summer tryout at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs, she’s certain the secretive organization holds the key to locating Quinton–if only she can wrap her head around the idea of magicians, fairies, aliens, and other supernatural creatures all being real.
Now she must compete for a spot against kids who’ve known about magic their whole lives. No matter how hard she tries, Amari can’t seem to escape their intense doubt and scrutiny–especially once her supernaturally enhanced talent is deemed “illegal.
” With an evil magician threatening the supernatural world, and her own classmates thinking she’s an enemy, Amari has never felt more alone. But if she doesn’t stick it out and pass the tryouts, she may never find out what happened to Quinton.
Plus don’t miss the thrilling sequel, Amari and the Great Game!.
This book for me was a solid 5 stars, this story is much more then just a young girl looking for her brother. I really enjoyed my time reading this book, wonderful story line with a big impact. I loved the world that B.
B Alston brought to life, I could clearly see myself there in the pages. I loved the magic system and the modern take on the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs it gave me Harry Potter mixed with Men in black vibes.
I think that B. B Alston has done a fantastic job of adding real world issues into a middle Gard book, touching on school bullying, self confidence, low income households, even bringing light to young children of low socioeconomic status and the impact this can have on there choices in life and even schooling opportunity.
Over all I think this book was amazing from start to finish, definitely looking forward to reading more of Amari and her adventures.
My daughter read all of the nevermore series and then we found Amari and the night brothers. Evelyn said they are similar in a lot of ways but Amari is just a extra special character. My daughter says ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! I couldn’t not get her to put this book down and her excitement over the characters was infectious.
Includes the stories “The Body” and “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”—set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine A “hypnotic” (The New York Times Book Review) collection of four novellas—including the inspirations behind the films Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption—from Stephen King, bound together by the changing of seasons, each taking on the theme of a journey with strikingly different tones and characters.
This gripping collection begins with “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,” in which an unjustly imprisoned convict seeks a strange and startling revenge—the basis for the Best Picture Academy Award-nominee The Shawshank Redemption.
Next is “Apt Pupil,” the inspiration for the film of the same name about top high school student Todd Bowden and his obsession with the dark and deadly past of an older man in town. In “The Body,” four rambunctious young boys plunge through the façade of a small town and come face-to-face with life, death, and intimations of their own mortality.
This novella became the movie Stand By Me. Finally, a disgraced woman is determined to triumph over death in “The Breathing Method. ” “The wondrous readability of his work, as well as the instant sense of communication with his characters, are what make Stephen King the consummate storyteller that he is,” hailed the Houston Chronicle about Different Seasons.
This book contains some of the best Stephen King novella’s, 3 of which have been made into films (The Shawshank Redemption / Stand By Me / Apt Pupil). I love the film adaptation The Shawshank Redemption but the written story is far more potent with interesting characters that you really get a feel for.
The same with The Body (Stand By Me), although watching Stand By Me feels like a magic elixir and will always make me smile on the greyest of days. Anyway, less of me yabbering and just pick up the book – you won’t be disappointed.
I paid $17 for what appears to be a pocket paperback cut out of it’s bindings and put into a cheap hardback binding with a xeroxed copy of the paperback’s cover. Not exactly what I was looking to get out of a hardback listed for that much.
Especially from what is probably my favorite collection from one of my favorite authors.

Witcher collections The Last Wish Sword of Destiny Witcher novels Blood of Elves The Time of Contempt Baptism of Fire The Tower of Swallows Lady of the Lake Season of Storms Hussite Trilogy The Tower of Fools Warriors of God Light Perpetual Translated from original Polish by David French.
A gift for our son. He has read ALL of the books in the series and can’t seem to put the books down. He loves the series. This was the last book he needed and wanted it to finish his set. Glad I bought it as he finally is back to reading and doesn’t put them down till finished and then goes on to the next.
If you enjoyed play any of the witcher games, and maybe looking forward to the netflix show about the witcher and enjoy to read, I recommend this and all 7 others in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books on Geraltof Rivia, the white wolf.

Why were these books even produced. ! Shocked at the explicitly violent storylines & menacing illustrations. Very poorly written & should never be available to children of any ages. Not the fantastic choose your own adventure books I grew up with.
I loved reading these as a child so I shared them with my own kids. These days games and apps have taken over and it’s hard to get kids to read. Why not try a choose your own adventure book? The story’s ending is yours to decide as you encounter plot twists.
Be part of your story! A bit pricey, but hey. If I can spark s child’s love for reading, that’s priceless.
This irresistible novel by Suzanne Collins tells the story of a boy who embarks on a dangerous quest in order to fulfill his destiny — and find his father — in a strange world beneath New York City.

Reluctantly, Gregor embarks on a dangerous adventure that will change both him and the Underland forever. This unforgettable novel by Suzanne Collins, the international bestselling author of the Hunger Games series, is rich in suspense and brimming with adventure.
This book series has been an absolute favorite of mine for years and years. It is so well written! I just love Suzanne Collins as an author. I think I got the first book when I was around 11 or 12 and ever since then, I reread this series every couple of years! The characters are so incredibly written and the whole subject of the series is so creative.
I would recommend this book to anyone of any age. There are definitely some themes in this series, such as death and war, that might not be suitable for young children. Truly amazing book series, though!.
Given the (mild) violence and creepy villains, it might not be the best choice for sensitive readers, but if you (or your child) enjoy vivid battles with giant bugs and rats, this is sure to please. High stakes and a likeable protagonist make it a page-turner.
I bought this book to start the entire Overland series, as I really like the author. The book is pretty good so far, and I am enjoying it overall. I am excited to purchase and read the following books within the series.
I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.
Soon to be a major Netflix original series! Geralt the Witcher — revered and hated — holds the line against the monsters plaguing humanity in this second collection of adventures in the NYT bestselling series that inspired the blockbuster video games.

This is a collection of short stories, following the adventures of the New York Times bestseller, The Last Wish. Join Geralt as he battles monsters, demons and prejudices alike. Witcher collections – The Last Wish – Witcher novels – Blood of Elves The Time of Contempt – Baptism of Fire The Tower of Swallows – Lady of the Lake – Season of Storms – The Malady and Other Stories: An Andrzej Sapkowski Sampler (e-only)Translated from original Polish by David French.
A must read for and fans of the games or show. I found it a little hard to follow at first because it keeps jumping from one adventure to the next. However, it is full of character development, action, adventure, and magic.
Would highly recommend for any fans of fantasy books.
Having read The Last Wish I was hooked on the series. I find both it and The Sword of Destiny to be really good stories in fact almost as good as Katharine Kerr. and that’s saying a lot. Both of these books are short stories to introduce The Witcher and they do.
as the build up towards the end of S. O D. leads one right into The Blood of Elves. I have only read 111 pages of The Blood of Elves so far Both books contain all the usual good guys and bad guys and of course the monsters, even a Golden Dragon and the humour is really good sometimes subtle sometimes right at you.
In fact I have just ordered the next three titles. That’s how much I think of them.
I lover the short story set-up, and how it comes together as one cohesive tale. It definitely sets up an enjoyable way to get to know characters without a bunch of “intermission” during the main series which I appreciate.
Keeps it fluid. I was genuinely surprised at how well the stories translate into the English language. You can’t even tell that they were once Polish. Overall these books are re-readable and very enjoyable to anyone who is looking for a high fantasy with a mature themes and tone.

The first three novels in James S. A. Corey’s New York Times bestselling epic science fiction saga the Expanse – now a major television series. “Interplanetary adventure the way it ought to be written.
“- George R. R. Martin Humanity has colonized the solar system, but two hundred years after migrating into space, mankind is in turmoil. When a reluctant ship’s captain and washed-up detective find themselves involved in the case of a missing girl, what they discover brings our solar system to the brink of civil war, and exposes the greatest conspiracy in human history.
The Expanse serial for television is the BEST science fiction series I have ever seen. It is realistic, and based on known scientific principles. It also introduces new essential pseudo-science that is necessary for us as a species to be able to explore our solar system realistically.
It ticks all the boxes necessary for me to believe and to be fascinated by the plot and the characters. It’s your perfect realistic Sci-Fi drama future tale. It has realistic heroes and villains. It contains characters with realistic flaws and we see them develop and grow alongside an enthralling, evolving story line that details the evolution of our expansion of this planet into space.
It’s exactly what I expect our human evolution to be like in the future. While I’m waiting for series 4 to come out on DVD, the books are my only refuge in the meantime. The books give the series another dimension.
Full marks for both the series and the books. If you are into Sci-Fi you can’t miss this phenomenon.
The SyFi series alerted me to these stories. The books are worth reading even if you already watched the show. The story is well fleshed out and developed. The writing flows well. I love the characters even more in the book (if that’s even possible).
On an odd note, I like the size and print of the books as well. The don’t feel like a cheap, quick print; thrown together to meet demand. Even though they are paperback. I also like the dimensions of the book (strange, I know).
Not to small, not too large, makes it comfortable to sit and read.
It was a Christmas present for my son. I bought the boxed set which was a great buy because I got a three book set for less than if I bought them individually. I also bought him 3 more books individually that also belonged to the set.
He was very excited and impressed with the books that I bought him from Target. I found his wish list for these books on another website and they were less expensive when I purchased them from Target.
Join the legion of fans who have made Erin Hunter’s Warriors series a #1 national bestseller! This box set—featuring striking new art—includes the first three books in the Warriors series and is the perfect introduction to the epic adventure and thrilling fantasy of the Warriors world.
– For generations, four Clans of wild cats have shared the forest according to the laws laid down by their warrior ancestors. But now the Thunder – Clan cats are in grave danger, and sinister Shadow – Clan grows stronger every day.
– In the midst of this turmoil appears an ordinary house cat named Rusty…who may yet turn out to be the bravest warrior of them all. – Supports the Common Core State Standards.
I bought this gift set of books after I had bought one book from the series for my grand daughter. She loved the first one and requested the beginning books of the series. She has such glowing reports of the books that I have asked her to pass them onto me when she is finished.
It is wonderful that the material is so exciting, it keeps her busy reading and wanting more. I highly recommend these books for the pre-teen set or even older.
This book box set was bought for my 11 year old grandson’s birthday and he absolutely loves it and has devoured it – he already asked for the next books in the same series for Christmas. His younger sister is now reading and loving them and I have recommended them to a number of grandmother friends who also bought them so very happy with these books.
I have read the entire series and am catching up on some of her latest books, but I wanted to recommend these books to anyone who loves cats, or talking animal books or Erin hunter. These are a middle school reading level but I LOVE this series.
I started it in third grade and have been hooked ever since. These would be a great nightly read.
This collectable boxed set edition includes all three books in N. Jemisin’s incredible NYT bestselling and three-time Hugo award-winning Broken Earth Trilogy. – This complete collection would be a great gift for any occasion and includes The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky.
– This is the way the world ends for the last time. A season of endings has begun. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world’s sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun.
It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon.
Wow!!!!! The first book left me speechless, can’t wait to finish the trilogy. N. K. Jemisin can WRITE. This would make a good gift for anyone who is into post-apocalyptic/alternate societies. If you liked Hunger Games as a teen, you’d probably like this as an adult.
Be warned it gets SUPER dark. But there’s enough light to balance it out. And the price is amazing for all three books.
Experience the ultimate urban treasure hunt in this adventure for the world’s greatest roleplaying game. “A perfect starter campaign. ”—Andrew Whalen, Newsweek “D&D acolytes are everywhere. Tech workers from Silicon Valley to Brooklyn have long-running campaigns, and the showrunners and the novelist behind ‘Game of Thrones’ have all been Dungeon Masters.
”—Neima Jahromi, The New Yorker “Want to be part of something big?”—A parchment tied to a flying snake, page 38 of Dragon Heist Welcome to Waterdeep. You’re summoned by Volothamp Geddarm, famous explorer and raconteur, to complete a simple quest.
Is anything ever really simple though? – Waterdeep, known as the City of Splendors, is one of D&D’s most iconic locations. Also the setting for the board game Lords of Waterdeeep, it’s the jewel of the Sword Coast—a sprawling melting pot held together by firm laws and swift justice.
– Take players through levels one to five in this Dungeons & Dragons adventure. Five story arcs guide players through each level for a multi-session campaign experience inspired by classic heist films.
– In D&D, you and your friends coauthor you own legend. Guided by a Dungeon Master, you create characters and play their roles in a story, rolling dice and navigating maps as you unfold a tale as limitless as your imagination.
– Dungeons & Dragons is the world’s greatest roleplaying game. Created in 1974, D&D transformed gaming culture by blending traditional fantasy with miniatures and wargaming.
Overall, Waterdeep Dragon Heist is an excellent module for creating a nuanced setting, and an interesting quest line. It does require an experienced DM however, as there’s a vast number of things to consider when running the opening arc, let alone the branching possibilities as the story goes on.
Lost Mines of Phandelver is far easier to DM, whereas Dragon Heist offers far more rich complexity for storytellers and players. There are also a few minor printing errors, largely due to a few misalignments with ink for some titles and maps.
It’s minor, however, and only on a few pages. Either way, it’s a great springboard for Fifth Edition, and good for intermediate players.

Great writing! Keeps your interest from start to finish. Each story is unique and keeps you guessing until the master detective reveals all the answers. Highly recommend Sherlock Holmes and his creator Conan Doyle.
My daughter wanted an A. C. Doyle collection, and Bantam books are just the right physical size for bedside, purses, and bookbags. Of course, Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street has been made into movies, and translated to many languages.
my review of the work is really superfluous, I think.
On the ocean liner Mauretania, two European scientists with a dramatic new invention are barely rescued from abduction by the Van Dorn Detective Agency’s intrepid chief investigator, Isaac Bell. Unfortunately, they are not so lucky the second time.
The thugs attack again-and this time one of the scientists dies. What are they holding that is so precious? Only something that will revolutionize business and popular culture-and perhaps something more.
For war clouds are looming, and a ruthless espionage agent has spotted a priceless opportunity to give the Germans an edge. It is up to Isaac Bell to figure out who he is, what he is up to, and stop him.
But he may already be too late. and the future of the world may just hang in the balance.
If you like to go back 100 years then the book is for you. With all his different co-writers you never know what you get. I would suggest to read the first 50 pages before you buy it. That’s the first book I did not finish reading.
I love Clive Cussler and will buy his books. But not this series.
The dragons that have been kept in sanctuaries want their freedom—and their revenge—and the world’s only hope is the reformation of the ancient order of Dragonwatch in this New York Times bestselling first novel of a new sequel series to Fablehaven from author Brandon Mull.
In the hidden dragon sanctuary of Wyrmroost, Celebrant the Just, King of the Dragons, plots his revenge. He has long seen the sanctuaries as prisons, and he wants nothing more than to overthrow his captors and return the world to the Age of Dragons, when he and his kind ruled and reigned without borders.
The time has come to break free and reclaim his power. No one person is capable of stopping Celebrant and his dragon horde. It will take the ancient order of Dragonwatch to gather again if there is any chance of saving the world from destruction.
In ancient times, Dragonwatch was a group of wizards, enchantresses, dragon slayers, and others who originally confined the majority of dragons into sanctuaries. But nearly all of the original Dragonwatch members are gone, and so the wizard Agad reaches out to Grandpa Sorenson for help.
As Kendra and Seth confront this new danger, they must draw upon all their skills, talents, and knowledge as only they have the ability to function together as a powerful dragon tamer. Together they must battle against forces with superior supernatural powers and breathtaking magical abilities.
When I finished Fablehaven, it was a little left feelings that need to complete the story of kendra and Seth. Finally new episode came out so I was very excited to read. The author always write well but Fablehaven was a little too much information and slows down to read but this one improved the speed and grabbed me so well.
I finished reading within 2 days and reread again. Now I have to wait for the sequels. Great book for young ready 9-13 if they love fantasy action. I recommended to read Fablehaven first.
I love the Fablehaven books, and was so excited when I learned of this new series. It definitely reads as a straight sequel, except that it presents the main characters, Kendra and Seth, with a new category of challenges.
I am an adult who loves kids’ books, and I’m a librarian. I especially love these books because they appeal so well to boys and to girls (I hate the concept of “boy” or “girl” books!) and the siblings both get to be heroes.

My gaming group currently consists of my roommate, my fiancee and our 10 year old. My roommate is along for the ride and will play whatever I throw at him but my fiancee and 10 year old were clearly getting bored with chasing bandits in The Lost Mine of Phandelver adventure.
LMoP had the downfall of not drawing you in with teases to the greater storyline. It starts with a goblin ambush and a frontier town plagued with bandits. Though I loved the idea of a sort of Old West type town in D&D, my girls were not so enthralled.
So I bought this. My fiancee loves horror and the kid loves vampires. I chose the first adventure hook offered in the book, having them enter a tavern in Phandalin, the town of LMoP, as a light mist drifts into the night air.
Whilst in the tavern, I ran the adventure hook and when they exited later, the mist was now a thick fog, the town of Phandalin was gone and as soon as the tavern door was closed behind them it disappeared as well.
They three were now alone on a road in the middle of the forest with a single dilapidated sign pointing West labeled Barovia. From this moment, they were hooked. Anything beyond that would be spoilers so I will just say I have scared them multiple times and we are only just in the town of Barovia, at the beginning of the book, and they are LOVING it! This adventure is so apart from any other I have read or run and has a lot of amazing moments.
The writing is superb and it ACTUALLY approaches the entire adventure as if the DM were running D&D for the first time, which I like. A plethora of useful tips, hints and information is provided here the level of which is rarely found in other published adventures.
I am thoroughly impressed and cant wait to see how my group’s story unfolds.
Best Adventure for 5E and Tabletop. Very RP heavy, there is combat(DEADLY COMBAT), in the extreme. Compared to the other adventures this one has a lot of talking and declensions you have to make compared to combat.
This is a big sandbox, so your characters could be going into a level 99 area at level 7 if you know what I mean (TPK). Its an amazing world, a demiplane, to play in and become a hero. You could also try Princess Mode or Diplomacy mode, and actually try to help the antogonist, sad story, very interesting twist.
The amount of supplemental material the online community has made for this is AMAZING. Lots of extra bits you can add to this adventure.
Great story, artwork, updated so much from the previous 2 originals which I admire as well being a Ravenloft devotee. Very nice hard cover, lot of new details, maps, characters and role playing options.
Even thou I myself stay with my crew in 2nd edition rules for most of the time, this advanture can be well played in other worlds and with various other rules which makes it an excellent piece of work for everyone.
Keep up with the great work! Long live Ravenloft!!! Kastelfranko.
The first book in Lauren Oliver’s New York Times bestselling trilogy about forbidden love, revolution, and the power to choose. In an alternate United States, love has been declared a dangerous disease, and the government forces everyone who reaches eighteen to have a procedure called the Cure.
Living with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in Portland, Maine, Lena Haloway is very much looking forward to being cured and living a safe, predictable life. She watched love destroy her mother and isn’t about to make the same mistake.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena meets enigmatic Alex, a boy from the Wilds who lives under the government’s radar. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love?.
I liked it, I found the idea and world this book created interesting, proceed to purchase the next two once I was finished. There was only a couple of problems for me reading this, one was it felt like the main female protagonist rambles on a bit too much when describing everything, I admit to skimming some parts because of this.
Secondly, which is a major pet hate for me, there is this almost whiny helpless quality some teenage female characters take on that is hard to tolerate. Some authors in the young adult genre seem to end up writing them like this when trying to portray who knows what trait, but for me having been a female teenager not that long ago with teenage friends, I am hard pressed to find any who act like this.
It just annoys me especially when it is almost the whole book until all of a sudden in the last 6 pages they have learnt a lesson. Luckily though it annoyed me about halfway through with this book it wasn’t enough to put me off.
I am hoping come the second book the main character has grown. I would still recommend this book, not everyone would be annoyed by the same attitudes as me, it has a really interesting world and the society structure was clever.
This is my absolute favorite book trilogy. These books had me hooked from the start. Kf you enjoy action and romance, these books are definitely for you. I have heard these is a movie about these books, but i have yet to find it.
This one was fairly predictable. I found it entertaining and enjoyed the development of the main character. Overall, it isn’t my favorite but it was worth the read. The story kept me engaged and enticed enough to purchase the last two books in the trilogy.
If you are looking for an easy read that will keep you entertained, this one fits the bill.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts begins a new trilogy of adventure, romance, and magick in The Awakening. In the realm of Talamh, a teenage warrior named Keegan emerges from a lake holding a sword–representing both power and the terrifying responsibility to protect the Fey.
In another realm known as Philadelphia, a young woman has just discovered she possesses a treasure of her own. When Breen Kelly was a girl, her father would tell her stories of magical places. Now she’s an anxious twentysomething mired in student debt and working a job she hates.
But one day she stumbles upon a shocking discovery: her mother has been hiding an investment account in her name. It has been funded by her long-lost father–and it’s worth nearly four million dollars.
This newfound fortune would be life-changing for anyone. But little does Breen know that when she uses some of the money to journey to Ireland, it will unlock mysteries she couldn’t have imagined. Here, she will begin to understand why she kept seeing that silver-haired, elusive man, why she imagined his voice in her head saying Come home, Breen Siobhan.
It’s time you came home. Why she dreamed of dragons. And where her true destiny lies–through a portal in Galway that takes her to a land of faeries and mermaids, to a man named Keegan, and to the courage in her own heart that will guide her through a powerful, dangerous destiny.
The beginning of a new trilogy by Nora Roberts always makes me happy! Being the first book in the trilogy, background has to be set so the motivations later in the novel make sense. In that respect, the book dragged a bit at first, but as Breen made her way to Ireland with Marco, then on to Talamh alone, the book picked up and the magic that is Nora Roberts took over.
Very enjoyable book, just right for a day long sit in front of the fireplace or wherever your cozy reading place is, to do nothing but immerse yourself in the story.
I’ve always loved Nora Roberts, and found myself engrossed by her Chronicles of the One trilogy, and her last two stand alone novels. I enjoyed The Awakening, but it seems to me that she’s taking quite a few elements from Chronicles of the One (minus the plague) and reworking them; I didn’t get that sense of satisfaction when I was done with this one.
Will I read the next installment? Sure. She left us with a cliffhanger.
Nora Roberts is an absolutely amazing writer! Many people say that she is a great romance writer, and I suppose that’s true to a point, But that’s not the case in many of her books. There is action, adventure, mystery, and intrigue as the major driving force in the story.
“Awakening” is one of those books. It makes me hunger for the next book! I know it will be a great book!.
The final book in the series is titled “The End of the Adventure. ” It is a story of the characters’ final battle with the evil forces that have been tormenting them throughout the series. In the end, they triumph and the series ends on a note of hope and optimism.
