I bought this. Let it sit up right for way over 24 hours. When I went to use it it would turn on for a about 5 minutes and and then the compressor would shut off and blow hot air not cooling down the 192 square foot room I have.
I returned this and going to get my money back and get somthing else. I did not pay this money for a AC to blow hot air. yes I did have the AC part on not the heater.

My central air conditioning system died in May (it had a long and rewarding life) just as the summer heat was starting (a little early this year, of course). Replacement was weeks or possibly months out (thanks to supply chain issues), so off to my folks’ garage when they have accumulated several window units over the years – all various name brands piled up and collecting dust.
They worked fine for the bedrooms, but I needed something of a chill monster to cool my family room and adjacent kitchen. So, off to my trusted advisor, Google, to hunt for this beast. I searched for the sales first, which led me to my local membership club (the Berkeley Jensen folks).
They had a large variety of brands of window units, but I was able to filter the search for 10,000+ BTUs. Reading through the results, I needed to further refine the list since I read most every review and it would have taken me until the end of the summer to get to them all.
I liked the idea of an Alexa-enabled unit, because, well, I’m an American and getting up to change the thermostat or grab the remote all-the-way-over on the end table is so unnecessary. Four results left! The Frigidaire 12,000 BTU seemed to be the best deal, offering a nice sale price for just a little more than the 10K model.
I’ve heard or Frigidaire (unlike some other brands with strange-sounding names and all seemed to all look alike). It wasn’t in stock in my local club, so I traveled a few additional miles away and picked it up (literally, it was hEaVy), brought it home and popped it in to one of the two double hung windows in my family room.
Installation was not bad – just screw in the side-accordion things and peel off all of that plastic tape that apparently keeps the whole thing together while in transit. It was kinda pretty – especially when compared to the older units I borrowed from the ‘rents.
BUT I WASN’T DONE. Now it’s time to connect to Alexa, which never seems to go as well as I always expect it should, and this was no different. Instead of touching a few buttons to add the device in the Alexa app, I had to download and set up the Frigidaire app, which was fine, but shouldn’t really be necessary, right? I mean, I can practically connect my Alexa toaster just by saying “Alexa, connect my toaster so I can make some, y’know, toast” or something like that – so why do I need this other app? But I’m kind of used to it by now – not everything is easy, but in the scheme of the internet of things, it really wasn’t that bad.
It took only a few minutes once I found my reading glasses, and BOOM goes the A/C! I was pleasantly surprised that the commands were simply “Alexa, turn on the air conditioner” and “Alexa, lower the thermostat to 68 degrees” instead of having to rattle off some stream-of-consciousness list of instructions (although maybe if you have more than one, you may have to call out the location or something – or perhaps you can them?! (“Alexa, turn on Beverly”).
So, how does the unit itself work? Exactly as it should! It cools pretty quickly, and keeps the temperature consistent by cycling on and off as necessary. During some extreme heat, it seems to ramp up to warp speed but doesn’t rattle out of the window.
I don’t have much to compare it to, but it’s really not that quiet, although it seems to be make about the same level of noise as the older, small units. Sometimes I have to raise the TV volume a little bit, but to me, that’s a small inconvenience so I don’t have to sweat while binging (bingeing?) “New Girl” episodes that I somehow missed.
After running it for over a month now, performance is still as good as ever. I did lose connectivity to Alexa once, but I think it was my Echo Dot because it came back after I unplugged/re-plugged it in.
I also found that keeping it on all the time with the thermostat a little higher during this past week of 90+ degree weather was better than cycling it off and on after leaving and coming home. It’s still working away, my Frigidaire cooling machine.
Doing what it’s supposed to without complaint or without any regret that I didn’t buy the extended replacement contract. I expect to have my central air replaced within the next months, but I’m happy I purchased this A/C to get me and my family through this abnormally hot weather we’ve been having.
It was also A LOT cheaper than moving to the Embassy Suites which was my wife’s first solution. I’ll return my borrowed units but will either keep this one or may seek out a new home so it can run free and condition air in some other friend’s home.
TL;DR: I didn’t seek out to buy a Frigidaire Air Conditioner, but I’m glad I opted for a name brand unit since it’s been working great after 30+ days of near constant use. Sure, there are some other well-known brands out there, but I couldn’t justify the much higher price tag.
Installation was easy; Alexa set up was a little annoying but fine. It’s not loud but it certainly isn’t quiet either – but at 12,000 BTUs, I don’t know how it could be. You want quiet? Get a mini-split and pay through the nose to hang that big white thing on the wall somewhere.
I installed this unit in my downstairs shop to keep me cool in the summer months and keep the humidity down. Installation was straight forward, with options for both vinyl and wood windows, and I was able to get the unit installed by myself in about 30 minutes.
I did have to modify the vinyl window brackets by trimming them slightly to fit my window, and while there were a couple of options for weather stripping included, I feel like there could have been a more of each, and maybe more options included.
I had some foam and weather stripping on hand that I was able to combine with the included options and got a decent weathertight seal around the unit. The Frigidaire app is fairly simple and straightforward, and works very reliably.
I have many connected devices in my home, and oftentimes the manufacturers smartphone apps lack in performance and features. Not the case with Frigidaire. I would like to see a “dehumidify” setting, but that could be a limitation of the unit itself.
I would also like to see support for more 3rd-party integrations like HomeAssistant. The unit itself is fairly quiet and cools my appropriately sized space well. The window that it’s installed in is underneath our deck, and from outside on the deck, it is fairly quiet, and definitely not at all intrusive.
It also seems fairly efficient, as I track my KWh usage daily, and I have not noticed a big impact at all. Overall great unit with limited but useful connected options. Buy with confidence.
Bought this unit for a three car garage knowing I was maxing out the capabilities. I insulated my garage doors and added insulation to attic above garage first. If I close everything off and start the AC in early morning i.
e when mid 70’s outside it can maintain between 75 and 79 in garage when temps outside get above 95 degrees. in Texas. It’s not perfect but much more enjoyable working in garage at 78 degrees as opposed to 95 plus.
I liked the fact that this unit was window slash through wall as i wanted to remove my existing window and frame around the AC unit. I had to reframe once because the first time I used 2×6’s and that with the addition of my exterior siding made overall width too long.
That’s what I would add to instructions. 1. keep in mind thickness of exterior material so as not to block venting and 2. there are notches in the sides of the frame that make it impossible to fit into the size of the frame they are calling for in the manual.
I ended up first making the frame larger than called for but upon my second framing, I used a needle nosed plier to bend these tabs in so it would fit correctly. I believe these tabs are used for window installation and not for through wall.
I’m pleased with the unit so far but will see how long it lasts with the harsh garage/woodworking environment. I cleaned the filters after just 5 days of operation, they were dirty due to all the saw dust.
expected. I let it run for 12 hours straight when I’m in the garage all day and as title says. it does what I was hoping it would do. Can’t get to 72 degrees but that wasn’t the expectation.

I live in a two story 2,300 sq. ft. home. It’s just me & my wife – retired couple. We live primarily in our large family room during the day, essentially the size of two rooms. We’ve kept the downstairs A/C on 78′ which was cooling the entire down stairs (formal dining room & living room, kitchen and breakfast nook) primarily for the family room comfort & convenience.
Made the decision to “bite the bullet” & purchase this portable A/C unit. I did not want a widow unit but opted to purchase this portable unit. I am very satisfied with the decision to buy this model.
We’ve had this unit for several months now with the outdoor temps being the the mid to high 90’s. The indoor portable unit temperature in the family room has been 77′-78′ with the unit temperature set on 75′.
The primary downstairs A/C unit has been set on 80′ and has rarely come on during the day for the other parts of the house since the purchase of this unit for the family room. I am quite pleased with the overall performance of the unit.
I am thinking of purchasing another unit for our upstairs master bedroom since we keep the nighttime temperatures set at 76′ for sleeping comfort. No need to cool the two other bedroom, large private bathroom and upstairs utility room this cool when we only need our bedroom temperature cooled down to this level.
We’ve received our monthly A/C bill and the total costs for all three units – the house two primary units (upstairs and downstairs) to include the portable unit has been averaging $156 for the two months.
I got this a year ago, I used it about 10 times and then put it in its own area that’s clean, dry and kept it up right. I get it out this year and plugged it in, annnnd guess what. I used it 2 days and it sounded like someone kept smacking the unit, so loud.
So I turn it off, find out the plastic exhaust fan is busted. I called to get a replacement part and guess what, I’d have to spend 300$ for a person to come out and fix it when I’m fully capable of doing it myself.
I’m a month past my one year warranty, no surprise there. I got 12 uses out of this before it broke! I will never recommend GE products to anyone and you bet I’ll never ever purchase another GE PRODUCT again.
12 uses and it’s broken now I have an expensive paper wait because. Cs said oh that’s to bad. WOW!.
I have a small less than 250 sq foot bedroom albeit in an ancient 1900 built home. This thing dehumidifies but I am not appreciating significant cooling! I turn it on high fan, 61 degrees, its brand new and it only just takes humidity out of the air.
I have put additonal foam around the window insert (foam provided is flimsy and chintsy) and keep it on cool trying to keep the room closed. sometimes keeping the room closed off with the a/c on just makes it more stuffy due to lack of circulation.
I have needed an air purifier (very high end one) on high and 2 rotating fans to get cooler air to circulate and then it still does not get much lower than high 70’s on hot nights :(.
A key feature of this portable air conditioner is its compact size and dual-hose system which facilitates better space utilization and more efficient cooling. The Whynter ARC-122DS portable air conditioner is the ideal solution for the warm spots in your home, office, server room and other space-constrained areas.
Portable and easy to set up, this portable air conditioner offers cooling relief for any area where excess humidity and heat cannot be remedied by traditional air conditioning. The unit can be easily set-up in almost any indoor location and is most commonly used in data closets/server rooms, bedrooms, classrooms and garages/workshops.
The Whynter ARC-122DS portable air conditioner provides 12,000 BTU cooling output while maintaining a compact and portable profile. The dehumidifier mode allows you to extract 76 pints of excess moisture during a 24-hour period.
Equipped with an intake and exhaust hose, this system allows for more air intake, cooling power, and constant air pressure, which results to a faster cooling rate than comparable single-hose units (can be operated as single hose as well).
Save energy and money by setting the unit to run only when you need it. Using the 24-hour programmable timer, the ARC-122DS can efficiently cool your space before you even get there. The timer allows you to set the unit to cycle on automatically, or once it is on, you can set it to automatically turn off.
First of all, do not be misled by the sleek look of the air conditioning unit. It has two large hoses in the accordion style used by clothes dryers, only much bigger and less flexible. When the unit is installed and ready to work, it looks like something more suited to a workshop or other industrial space than a living room or bedroom.
And because of those huge hoses, the unit must be placed close to a window – but not too close. It will need to placed about 2 feet away from the wall so as not to kink the hoses. So, big as this thing is all by itself, you have to add even more space when planning the location.
In my very small room, it is taking up a 2′ x 3′ footprint. I bought this air conditioner believing it was portable; it’s not. Not in any real sense of the word. At over 60 pounds, it’s a lot heavier than a window unit with the same BTU capacity, and even though it’s on wheels, the wheels don’t function well on carpeting (the instruction manual points this out), and the hoses must be reinstalled in the new window along with the unit, making it much more difficult to relocate than a standard window unit.
The frame that holds the hoses in place in the window is poorly designed and the manual suggests a permanent installation, including screwing the frame in place. This means either removing the frame at the end of the cooling season – not small matter if you’ve screwed it into your window frame – or dealing with an uninsulated and drafty frame throughout the winter.
It was designed to be left in place, as the manufacturer included plastic caps to seal off the hose openings. In terms of function, it isn’t as effective as the last window unit I had in that room – a small, inexpensive Frigidaire model.
I timed it yesterday and it took over two hours to lower the temperature by 10 degrees in a 10′ x 11′ room, with the assistance of a ceiling fan. The old Frigidaire did it in half the time, and without the fan as a backup.
The only advantage to this unit is it is quiet. Not extremely quiet, just quiet compared to most window units. If I had it to over again, I would NOT have purchased this air conditioner.
First, let me say this does a good job for its main function, I. e. ; cooling a fairly large area. We have it set up in a dining room that has large doorways leading to kitchen, living room and family room, and with ceiling fans helping to circulate the air, it definitely helps cool off the first floor.
That’s the pro. Here are the cons: 1) technically it is portable, but only insofar as you can roll it from room to room. Forget being able to take it up and down stairs. It’s quite large and bulky, and weighs more than the average person can carry alone.
Additionally, you have to be able to place giant vent tubing in a window, so you need a combination of window that opens to accommodate vent panel, a grounded outlet near the window, and a clear space for the cold air to circulate.
2) venting is awkward. There are two vents (air intake and exhaust), each one extends about 6 feet. While they are flexible, they have limitations and add to the bulk of the unit. Also, even though they are supposed to thread onto the end pieces that attach to the unit, they tend to pop off if you move it around or adjust the tubing.
3) window plate that attaches to vents lacks flexibility. The unit comes with a rectangular sturdy plastic frame that you place in the window for ventilation. There is also a smaller plastic piece that slides into the frame to adjust the width to fit different window sizes.
Except it’s not long enough to accommodate wider windows, and to adjust for narrower windows it has to be cut down with a saw. If you cut it down, you’re screwed if you want to move the unit to a wider window.
And if you have a window that slides horizontally or a crank out style, foggedaboutit. The window plate should have come with the type of flexible accordion panels that most a/c units have. As it stands, we’ve had to jury-rig the opening using duct tape and cardboard.
4) control panel: you get a nifty little remote control with digital readout to adjust your settings, which works great! But don’t lose it, because the unit itself only has a power switch and button to turn off the bright blue lights that burn into your dreams while you sleep unless you turn them off.
5) moisture collection drain valve: according to the manual, the unit isn’t really designed to use in high humidity environments. What?? Didn’t find that out until the unit shut down and we read that the moisture collection pan was full.
Ok, Only one problem: the drain plug is only about an inch above the base of the unit, so finding something that can catch the water and fits under the plug is a challenge. Or you can attach a hose… To sum up: the unit works well and cools a fairly large area, but for the cost, hassle and bulkiness of attacking vents, you could probably buy two window units that work just as well and take less time to install.
On hot, humid days, Frigidaire’s Energy Star 6,000 BTU window-mounted air conditioner quickly cools a room up to 250 square feet. Ready-Select electronic controls allow you to set the comfort level to your preference, while a convenient temperature-readout displays the set temperature.
A full-function remote control allows you to precisely control the temperature and fan speed from across the room. The multi-speed fan features three different speeds for cooling flexibility and the 6-way comfort control design allows you to easily direct the air where you want it.
The washable mesh filter with front, tilt-out access captures dust from the air to keep your air conditioner working efficiently. Plus, low power start-up conserves energy and saves you money. Year after year, Frigidaire is the brand you can trust to keep you cool and comfortable.
Needed a new bedroom AC; old one was spitting out ice chunks and spraying water. Our room size was between BTU sizes, and went with the smaller. It is keeping the room cool-just takes a little longer, during heat wave.
Much quieter than old one; makes a humming noise, which is kind of like a white noise machine. Only makes more noise when condenser’s turning back on, but quiets down to same humming as before. Only slightly negative thing is we like to sleep at 67 (during the day it’s set much higher), and the few nights it’s been below 67 (outside), it doesn’t cool as well.
All in all, a steady, quiet AC, that gets the job done (even though it’s a smaller BTU than the room calls for). And NO ice chunks, or the gurgling sound, and spitting of water.
I do my research when shopping. Consumer Reports rated this unit as a best buy so I purchased it. It’s been running about two months now in an upstairs bedroom. Pros: The remote works great and it cools a very hot upstairs bedroom decent but ONLY if you turn the unit to at least 64 and never turn it off.
I tried the auto feature and it just couldn’t keep up with the heat. I like that the remote turns the display OFF at night. Cons: The noise. Wow. I read other reviews mentioning it but I like white noise so thought what the heck.
The noise is from the water being flung against the condenser to evaporate. (It doesn’t drip at all – so far). It can be really, really annoying. I think it may be based on the humidity because sometimes it’s far more noticeable than other times.
After spending hours researching the many types of AC units and their reviews I chose this as my first AC purchase for the bedroom (18′ x 13′ = 234 sf. It is advertised for rooms up to 250 sf). No matter the temperature or mode setting, or how long it is running, it turns off when the room temp is 73 degrees.
One of the main reasons I picked this unit was for the lower noise rating. Being my first AC unit I have nothing to compare it to except your usual hotel AC. It isn’t much quieter. The unit is actually quietest with the fan on high which I find to be odd.
Overall, it does cool the room which would be 80 degrees without it. But considering it is advertised to maintain a temperature as low as 62 it is disappointing that the lowest room temperature obtained is 73 degrees.

I bought this AC less than a month ago, from Lowe’s. And ever since then it’s been leaking. Profusely. Unless I use the fan setting. We are in a heatwave in NYC right now so I can’t do that. And have had to sacrifice my floors (because even with layers of towels, the leakage is so intense my baseboards show signs of water damage now) I followed all troubleshooting necessary per GE’s website.
But nothing worked, because the issue wasn’t on how I installed it- it was on GE’s poor manufacturing. When I contacted them to have the AC repaired, they made an appointment for a technician to come out- only to call me the day of the appointment to reschedule for the following day (that’s fine, these things happen) but less than an hour late they called again to tell me the appointment had been canceled altogether because apparently they don’t service this appliance! (Why not?!) They proceeded to tell me they’d provide me with reimbursement to get a NEW one – minus the tax, which was $40.
I am floored by how poorly this was handled. I ended up contacting Lowe’s directly and they were far more understanding and helpful. Returning it today for a FULL refund, barring anymore unforeseen issues.
Won’t be buying another GE appliance until y’all fix yourself.
This AC unit is absolutely wonderful. It took 2 people to install this window unit but it was pretty easy to do. I love the unique design of this unit so much. It fits OVER the window sill instead of sitting on top of it, which allows me to see out of my window.
No more big, bulky units taking up almost half of my window! It’s also super sleek looking as well. I love it so much, I want the rest of my units replaced to this design. The unit cool my room quickly and efficiently and definitely it not as loud as other units.
I like that the displays dims after so long because I like my room be as dark as possible when I sleep, so that is a handy little feature. You can also connect this to wifi and use your phone or smart speaker to control it.
There are extra features when connecting to your phone, such as setting it up to turn on when you arrive home (via location services) and monitoring your energy consumption. This is such a step up from the a/c units i’ve had in the past and would definitely recommend this product.
As I’m getting old, I don’t want to keep setting up & putting away the window AC yearly. I got this for the saddle design. As a handy man, I thought I could skip the installation manual but this AC has a little trick up its sleeves so do look up how to adjust the AC to the width of the window sill & wall.
Even though the compressor is on the outside, this unit is NOT as quiet as it claims. My biggest issue is with the ECO mode. It cannot detect the room temperature correctly so it fails to maintain the desired temperature.
Multiple times each night, I find myself moving my bed sheet back and forth due to the temperature changes, whether too warm or too cool. The installation kit is OK but not great. Different kinds of foam were provided to fill the gaps.
Keep cool no matter how hot it gets outside with the Whynter 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner. Designed to cool rooms between 351 and 550 sq ft, it is an ideal choice for use in bedrooms, family rooms, home offices or any other small- to medium-sized room without central air.
It runs quietly, which is especially important if you use it in a bedroom or child’s room. No installation is required with this platinum Whynter portable air conditioner, and you can move it around where you need it most.
With three settings, the unit can be used as an air conditioner, fan or dehumidifier. It also features three fan speeds to suit your preference. The programmable timer allows you to turn it on or shut it off even when you are away from home.
The stylish platinum color is a nice addition to any room. Stay cool all summer no matter what the thermometer says with this portable air conditioner.
Great size for a bedroom, cools well and quickly, has a continuous fan setting and you can turn the lights off at night. The window kit is a thick plastic unlike some brands but the hose clicks in and there are tiny gaps.
My main problem is that the compressor turning on and off, is a loud thump, woke me out of a deep sleep and easily wakes me out of light sleep. If I’m awake it startles me. It’s super annoying and disruptive.
We have 700+ sq ft apt and this works well. It’s setup in the living room blowing towards the 2 bdrs down the hall. I keep the bathroom & 1 bdr door mostly shut so the living room and my office/mancave stay cooler.
I have a fan outside my room door to direct/boost the cool air in and it really helps. We had to use the LR slider to exhaust through. I bought foam to block the ~60% opening above the window attachment cover.
Also had to place towels in the slider gap between the 2 glass windows as the exhaust creates a pressure gradient and much warm air was being sucked through. Overall, the air flowing back in is very low.
I double wrapped the exhaust tube with towels to insulate and can barely feel warmth. 1 towel still allows much heat to radiate through. The vent below the exhaust tube exit is the air that blows over the hot compressed coolant tubings so you want as little warm air being sucked back in to maximize efficiency.
The air coming out is quite cool. We live upstairs and the sun really warms up our unit, but this a/c keeps us comfortable. I’m glad we didn’t get an 8000 btu. If you use this in a closed room I’m sure you’ll be quite impressed.
I give this review a 3 stars. It is my honest opinion that I will write. The A/C cools my room down EASILY. No complaint there. The remote was a bit difficult to navigate at first but eventually I got it.
The reason I gave a 3 stars is there is NO way to close the vent. It is always open. This is an easy invite to spiders and bugs when not in use. Unless you manually use the vent cap and put it on and take it off.
For that reason alone I give this A/C a 3. It would of gotten a perfect five otherwise. Thank you.

Best perchance I ever made. I bought it for my attic because summertime gets highly humid and hot. Now that I have this in the attic, it cools the whole attic with en 10-15 minutes. This thing is 10 times better than the traditional AC.
This puts out an extraordinary amount of cool air. It has to be on low to not bother the cats. Also, if you’re in for a hot day, it has to be run throughout the day to keep the room cool for evening comfort.

This unit seems to be a good unit and it cools fairly well. It was replacing a 24000 but GE window unit that finally died after more than 20 years. That thing could really blow out a lot of cold air.
The new units only have a one year warranty. It seems it is that way for most brands on these window units. I got the wifi connected model which is only $20 or $30 more than the non connected model. I would definitely buy the connected model.
This allows you to set programs and schedules for the cooler from your smart phone. This cooler is definitely quieter then my old unit. The led display that shows the temperature is small and is only visible for a short time after you make a change to the a/c unit with the controller.
I am sure this is like this because people complained it was too bright when they were trying to sleep. Fridgidaire had one of the lowest prices on their website and they offered free 2nd day shipping.
I figured with the fast shipping the unit would have less chance of being damaged in shipping. I was wrong, it was damaged anyway. Fridgidaire was good about offering to send me a free replacement or a 20% discount on the damaged unit it if I wanted to keep it.
The Frigidaire brand was one of if not the top brand rated by consumer reports. As expensive as these units are, it is too bad they only have a one year warranty.
Very nice , cools faster than the last Frigidaire , but that’s because I upped my Btu’s. 700-800 ft/vaulted area and two smaller air con’s for bedrooms. Even on a higher setting set 72 and it cools off quickly and is comfortable and cycles on and off to balance the air temp.
When we cook so our new oven heats up fairly fast along with turning on the fan to reduce heat. and setting the air con. for higher cooling demand works within minutes and reduces the heat Heatwave? – we got it after the heat wave.
So at cooler settings I don’t know how much we’ll feel the cooling effect prolonging the running time to reach a comfort level. Our last Frigidaire lasted 10yrs still running but struggled cooling at heatwave temps.
Haven’t tried the heat setting yet , too hot out. The problem I have is reading the lights on the front panel. I’m 5″ The air Con. is installed about 1 1/2 ft above my head. So reading the modes are impossible.
And I have sight issues. So you must use the Op Manual to decipher the green and red dot’s If you can see them. I barely can. I’m not paid for this review.
Being a Floridian I have a large, 429 sqft Florida Room with insulated roof and vinyl windows. For about half the year this is awesome and if the room gets a little warm you can just open the windows but from Late May through Late September it’s just too hot and humid.
We had been looking for a good AC for this room and the LG 18,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner looks like it is going to fit the bill perfectly! I had tried a smaller 9,000 BTU unit and it struggles too much with the mid-summer heat but this beast of an AC doesn’t even break a sweat! Packaging/In the Box – Upon opening the box I found the AC to be very well packaged/protected, this was a concern of mine due to the size and weight of the unit itself.
Removing the unit from the box/packaging was easy with some help, I highly suggest using two people for the entire unboxing and removal as this unit does weigh over 100lbs. Included with the unit are the instructions, the AC unit itself, a remote control, two PE foam strips, the left and right curtain panels, and install hardware.
Installation/Setup – Installation was easy with the instructions being very straight-forward. I love the fact that this is a “slide in unit” which allows you to slide off the outer shell, make the installation and then slide in the unit once that process is complete.
I know most installs are done window height through a double hung window but for my application we did install at ground level in a panel on the side of the Florida room. Note this install method is not supported but worked with little modification for my needs.
This unit is Wi-Fi enabled and can be controlled via the ThinQ app and can be integrated with Google or Alexa. In my case we integrated with my Google Home setup. App install and Google integration was as easy as expected for a current smart device.
Use – The on-board controls for the unit are as expected for basically any AC and resemble those for a central AC unit. The remote control is pretty basic and includes controls for power, temperature, Fan speed, Timer and Mode.
Personally, I control the unit via Google home or the ThinQ app. In the two days we have been using the unit we have had a temperature of 93 and 91 and the LG AC has kept our Florida room to a very comfortable 74 without having to stay constantly running! My Final thoughts on the LG 18,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air is that this is a huge winner for me and anyone wanting a smart window AC.
The ease of install, the quality of the unit itself and finally the easy Google home integration make this sheer perfection. Thank you LG!!!!.
The LG 5,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Manual Controls is the right air conditioner for the job. The LG LW5016 is ideal for cooling small to medium rooms up to 150 sq. ft. This unit has 2 cooling and fan speeds and 2-way air deflection that lets the flow of air be directed where it’s needed most.
Whether cooling, dehumidifying or just circulating air this small but powerful air conditioner does the job. Other features include an easy window installation kit and removable, washable filter.
I purchased this air conditioner recently for my small 100 sqft office space. I am not bothered by a little bit of noise, especially the white noise that most air conditioners make. The first hour or so with this little ac was quite pleasant.
The room was cold and the noise running is fairly typical. What I didn’t know was that this AC, like many modern ACs, collects water inside the base tray and has a rotating ring (slinger ring) that splashes water back onto the coils to both cool it and this evaporates out.
However, once this base tray is full of water, there is an inconsistent scraping/rustling sound that will not go away. I live in New England, so not a very humid part of the country so I attribute this to poor design on the products part, perhaps it could benefit from an overflow drain.
Additionally, knowing that LG is usually a great brand, I returned my first unit and got another, only to find the same issue, so fairly sure it isn’t a lemon. I can tune out white noise, but inconsistent interruptions are too distracting for me.
The noise was a deal breaker here, especially because it is advertised by LG as quiet, but I found that it still cooled quite well.
The thermostat must blend outside air to determine whether or not to turn on the compressor. If the room is too warm, but outside is cool, the compressor won’t turn on unless you crank the cooling way down.
If it’s warm inside and outside the system will run the compressor non-stop, eventually the room gets very very cold. but the system is oblivious and the compressor keeps running. Essentially this thing has no idea what the temperature is inside the room it’s trying to cool.
It’s does a good job cooling, but we have to constantly spin the cooling knob to keep it working properly.
Several years ago we began replacing all of our old window air conditioners. I looked around and did some comparisons and chose the 5,000 btu LG because the price was reasonable and I hoped it would be of the same quality as other LG appliances we have.
I have not been disappointed. I now have four of these units purchased over the last six years and all of them have provided reliable and constant summertime service. Though I have a few different models with different features all have been great.
I highly recommend the LG 5,000 btu window air conditioner for any room in your house.

TraduciMostra in lingua originaleDid my research looking for the best Portable A/C and this one was one on the list. I end up choosing this cause at the time of the heat wave my old one went out so. I needed one ASAP me and heat don’t mix.
within 2 days I received it. I use it in my master bedroom this one is way better than the one i had. It completely keeps my room cool through the day at Comfortable Temperature. I absolutely have no regrets in this purchase and at a good price.
I highly recommend. Also read the directions before you use it FYI IT DOES SAY LET IT SET FOR 24 HRS OUT OF THE BOX.
TraduciMostra in lingua originaleMaybe all portable air conditioners suffer from this, but for my next purchase, I will be looking for one in which the exhaust hose actually can attach to both the unit and the vent piece easily and securely.
The unit works ok and cools one average size room (I think my high ceilings affect performance despite keeping my ceiling fan running) but it has to stay on 24/7. If I need to move it or turn unit off and remove exhaust from window (mostly due to wildfire smoke), I have to re-attach the exhaust hose that keeps falling off.
I have used duct tapt to secure it because it really doesn’t attach well (poor design. ) It is otherwise easy to set up and use, but it never cools the room to the temperature I set it at; it does provide relief and makes the room habitable.
The caster wheels are also super slippery and the unit will roll around at will. I keep it set on pretty high and can easily sleep with it on, so it is good as far as sound goes, which is good because it has to stay on continuously.
GE Appliances is dedicated to providing the right solutions for rooms of any size. Our portable air conditioners are designed to provide exceptional comfort with quiet operation, and the 3-in-1 functionality with built-in air conditioning, two fan speeds and dehumidifying capabilities provide ultimate flexibility and convenience.
This 115V 7000 GE Portable Air Conditioner cools small rooms up to 300 square feet and is perfect for a bedroom or small office. The auto-evaporation technology evaporates any water the portable unit collects under most room conditions, eliminating the need to drain excess water.
LED controls with included remote make it easy to clearly see and manage your settings from anywhere in your room. This portable AC installs easily in double hung or sliding windows with no cutting required and comes with easy-roll wheels for effortless mobility.
Additional features like a washable filter, 24-hour on/off timer, and auto restart offer ease of use and maintenance. Portable units must be vented out of a window.
This portable AC unit works quite well, but I had a problem with some of the parts they included with the unit. First, the good: the AC unit works very well and effectively saved me during a brutal heatwave.
Once it’s set up, it’s very easy to use. The settings and usability of the unit are straightforward and easy to figure out. The included remote control also works well. Second, the bad: This is a portable floor unit and comes with a hose that attaches to the back of the unit and then is supposed to attach to a piece of plastic that you place in your window between the window frame and the window itself.
I had some real trouble attaching the hose to the cheap plastic, to the point where I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to hook it up at all. The opening that the hose is intended to latch onto has notches in the sides where the hose should slide in and lock down.
but the notches are too large and the hose just falls out! Then I noticed a couple of small punched out holes where screws could be installed, but realized that I was only given a single screw. Not that it matters, mind you, because it doesn’t even work the way you might think it does, because the only place for that screw is to thread it through the hole on the hose, but the plastic piece in the window doesn’t have any holes for it to thread through, so it can’t actually screw together.
I had to screw it until it was snug against the plastic piece and just hope and pray that it would hold, and thankfully it’s holding, but it just feels like these parts were not designed to all go together in the first place, as if the window piece was pulled from a different product.
It’s a little crazy that the cheapest part in the whole box happens to be a very important part that was designed as an afterthought. And don’t get me started on the included directions, because when it comes to installation, they were completely useless.
Does it work well? Once it’s set up, yes, it does. Was the setup easy and did it feel like it was thoughtfully designed? Not at all. I would recommend this product but it definitely has an annoying caveat.
Moved into an apartment that doesn’t allow window units because my bedroom window is a street-facing window. Found this portable unit at a store nearby, and got a friend to help me get it. Installed, only to find out that the lowest setting is 64 degrees, and it strictly self-regulates, by which I mean the compressor turns off when it appears to have reached the “desired” temperature.
(My desired temperature would probably be between 60 and 62. ) The mode, “Continuous Fan,” does run a continuous fan, but you can clearly tell when the compressor comes on or turns off. Two reasons I like personal air conditioners are 1.
white noise (I have misophonia, and a constant white noise is greatly preferred to the intermittent noise of the compressor) and 2. cool temperature. I realize 64 degrees is reasonable for many people, but it’s still too warm for me.
And since the white noise is not consistent, it’s somewhat annoying. I’m not gonna return it since it’s such a cumbersome unit to unbox, and it is at least serving *some* purpose. But I hope my review can warn others looking for a white noise and cold-making machine.
I wish the product page had described the unit’s staunch adherence to temperature and its inability to just constantly run. Could have found a different $600ish unit. (This unit is probably fine for *most* people though.
Unit performs okay, but has a major flaw in my opinion. Something that is really bothersome is that the unit will shut the fan off within a minute of reaching its set point. This allows the room temp to exceed the delta that the unit is trying to stay within.
For example, I set the set point to 74, and it ends up reaching 78-80* before kicking back on again. Air isn’t being circulated, so it’s not passing through the temp sensor in the unit to tell it when it needs to switch back on.
I reached out to support when I first got it, explaining the situation and I was told I need to put a box fan in the room to help circulate when the ac switches off its fan. Lol. I’m imagining this is some form of energy saving programmed into the unit, but dear god is it a nuisance and quite frankly poorly designed.
Not to mention the fan motor probably doesn’t use more than 150w on high so it’s really not doing a whole lot of energy savings, considering the unit is exceeding your set point which then has to work harder to get the temp down.
Anyways, not the best air conditioner I’ve used but it does okay. Other than that, pretty noisy compressor, coil fins were bent on arrival but hey. Still works! I won’t be buying another GE.

You get what you pay for. I should have paid the extra $18 bucks and got the Midea Digital AC with automatic climate control. (which probably doesn’t work any better) I have my present manual control AC run at night during the summer so I can sleep.
However, this particular model stops blowing cold air after a couple hours so that I have to get UP and manually adjust the darn thing to make it blow cold air again 3 to 4 times a night. I’m so tired in the morning from having to mess with that darn AC I feel like I haven’t slept in a month.
Oh wait. I haven’t slept in a month. Peace of JUNK! I only gave it two stars because it does turn on after all. This thing literally stops blowing cold air after a certain time. I have to shut it off for a couple of hours to let it catch its breath and then turn it on again and cross my fingers.
The sad thing is I could have gotten a more expensive model but I cheaped out trying to be frugal. QUACK!! Wont do that again. Do yourself and your family a favor and buy a completely different brand and pay a little more.
Very cheaply made. The plastic front grill arrived with a piece broken off the bottom The louver extenders that adjust to fit the window are of the cheapest flimsy plastic. The unit requires you to drill holes in your window frames in order to install the unit.
One problem. “No one has wooden windows anymore. I do not know how this unit is mechanically, but considering how cheaply made it is and the poor quality of the housing, I would suspect that it will not last long.

I bought this unit in 2017 and have used it when needed to cool about 600 sq. ft. With fans it’s quite comfortable. A vital improvement I made which I learned with a previous unit is to wrap the intake and exhaust hoses in heat reflective material such as used in windshields.
A tremendous amount of heat comes from especially the exhaust which is obvious to the touch. Why I haven’t seen this suggestion from either the manufacturer or elsewhere is beyond comprehension. Maybe by giving only 4 stars to a product I consider excellent this info.
purchased the whytner arc 14000 , i use it from june to september. It worked fantastic for two years and then started spitting water out of the bottom of it and it doesn’t function anymore. All that money on a better unit and it’s still disappointing me by not working past a short time limit.
I babied that machine. Took care of it so that it would last. Very disappointed. Hope your machine does better than mine.
Pre-Owned — Frigidaire’s 5,000 BTU 115V window-mounted mini-compact air conditioner is perfect for cooling a room up to 150 square feet. It quickly cools the room on hot days and keeps you cool without keeping you awake.
Low power start-up and operation conserves energy and saves you money. Ready-Select electronic controls allow you to set the comfort level to your preference, while a convenient temperature-readout displays the set temperature.
A full-function remote control allows you to precisely control the temperature and fan speed from across the room. The comfort control 4-way air direction allows you to direct the air where you want it, while the washable filter with front, tilt-out access captures dust from the air to keep your air conditioner working efficiently.
What really is not to love about this window ac. It may be small but it packs a nice punch. It cools my sunroom with ease during the hottest summer days. I love that the filter is washable and the unit tells you when to clean it.
I am also a huge fan of the “Eco” setting as it helps me save immensly in my energy bill. The window kit it came with is very snug and helps seal the outside nicely. The remote is also a huge blessing to have and has come in handy.
I have always had great luck with Frigidiare appliances in the past. I am sure this one will last for many years to come.
I am completely happy with this air conditioner. What I love best is the temperature sensing remote. With other air conditioners, the thermostat is in the air conditioner itself so when the air near the unit reaches the programmed temperature, it turns off but across the room, it may be up to 10 degrees warmer.
With the temperature sensing remote feature activated, you place the remote across the room and the unit continues to cool until the programmed temperature is reached at the remote. The unit is relatively quiet although it gets louder with each fan speed.
It has a timer feature and sleep mode as well. The price was inexpensive too! It has all the bells and whistles of a larger more expensive unit. I am very impressed with all the features and pleased with how well and quickly this air conditioner cools the entire room and in Texas during the summer, that’s saying a lot!.
This is our third Frigidaire window unit. We bought one like this five years ago, which is still going strong. We use it to keep our bedrooms cool a night and it does the job well – and saves us money! The thermostat is a must and works great.
This one is loaded with a variety of useful features, including more nuanced settings than our earlier thermostat model, plus it’s smaller and sleeker than previous models. It was also also a very good price comparatively.

TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleThis AC works fairly well but has a few design flaws that are irritating. The cold air flow coming out of the unit aims all the way to the left as you are facing it.
You have to rotate the unit to properly aim the cooled air toward the middle of the room which kinks the exhaust hose. The horizontal louvers are adjustable up and down, but that doesn’t solve the air flow direction.
Also, the control panel is on top of the unit, so you can’t tell the status unless you walk right over to the unit to view the top, rendering the remote less useful. Unlike other portable units I have used, the fan does cycle on and off as needed.
This saves energy, but I found it irritating at night because when the fan goes on and off, it is quite loud. Would be better to have some setting to keep fan on as compressor cycles on and off to keep constant white noise.
The overall noise of the unit is tolerable, but still quite loud, but that’s pretty much the case with all portable units. The compressor on/off cycling is a lot quieter than my old unit, which is nice.
It takes quite a while to cool my 12×17 bedroom, longer than I would like, but it eventually gets the job done. Warm air leaks from the exhaust hose where it connects to the unit, no matter how I try to adjust.
Overall, a fairly good, well-built unit, but could use some improvements.
TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleStraight forward design & set-up; cools well enough for our needs; fairly quiet despite the continuous running. Only complaint is the length of the hose, pretty requires the unit to stay within 4 feet of window.
Set up works for slider our smaller slider windows, although cut a piece of foam insulation to bind the plastic connector to create a tighter fit in the window which was easy to do. Helps us deal combat 80-100 degree heat from the heat domes that are coming more frequently.
Since our home is insulated, this unit helps us keep our three bedrooms from rising above mid 70s. We have use another small window 8000 BTU unit to keep the kitchen/living/dining from doing the same.
House square footage is 1700. Thankfully this is not an ongoing daily requirement as yet.
TraduireAfficher dans la langue originaleI have a limited amount of space in my home office and it’s always hot. The only good thing I can say is this unit has a smaller footprint that most. But there are multiple engineering FAILS.
The window kit is a nightmare. It will not work on a right to left sliding window. Forget what the instructions and box photo shows. The vent hole is on the other end of the panel. So I had to cut it and rearrange the pieces and put it together with white duct tape.
Second there is nowhere near enough weather stripping especially for that horrible small piece. Not even close to filling the gap. Plus the vent hose is too short for high Windows. I put the unit on blocks so it’d reach.
That has to be the worst designed window kit of any portable AC on the market. Second, you can’t use the dry feature without running a hose. Seriously. So where am I going to run a garden hose in an office full of computers? Why doesn’t it just vent the moisture vapor to the outside? Why? I went through all that trouble to put it in! So I’m already disappointed.
I just hope it can actually cool the room when it’s 98° outside with the afternoon sun beating on my window. Crossing fingers. But wow, you guys really skimped in all the wrong ways on this unit. Either some product manager didn’t create realistic story boards or the engineers didn’t follow them.
The Frigidaire 14,000 BTU 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner keeps your home cool and comfortable when and where you need it. Enjoy more cooling flexibility with 2 different fan speeds plus dehumidifying Dry Mode to keep your room cool and comfortable while also removing excess moisture from the air.
Plus, cool your room anywhere, anytime from your smart device with the Frigidaire app.
100°F is the new normal here in Central Texas and my home office will get 6-8° hotter than the rest of the house because of all the computer equipment that I use throughout my workday and then gaming afterwards.
I wanted a portable A/C because my HOA does not allow window units to be installed. The Frigidaire 3-in-1 works well. It can bring down the office to be in line with the rest of the house in just a few hours.
My house is newer and has the HVAC system configured so that each room is linked to the other, meaning I can never seal my office off so I can’t get it below the house temperature. Once the portable unit “equalizes” the temperature with the house it’ll stay there.
However, when the ambient temperature in the office is 70° I am measuring about 50-54° coming out of the unit which to me is incredible as that’s better cooling than my central AC system. My biggest issue is the practical portability of this unit.
The insert that you use to attach the exhaust duct to the window is rather cheap and flimsy. In fact, mine was either cracked out of the box or I did it when first setting it up and didn’t notice, not sure.
It doesn’t stay in my window that well and would require lots of duct tape to properly seal it. The kit does come with some strips to help seal the space around the window, but I’m not using them. The way the hose attaches to the insert is also poor.
It will easily fall out as you’re trying to get the insert in place. It needs a more secure “snap” to stay there. I need to remove the duct every night so I can set my house alarm when I go to sleep and the process is not easy.
There is a wired gate at the end of the duct in case you don’t have a screened window but I find it odd that it’s not a mesh screen because while it might keep out a larger rodent, insects or even a snake would otherwise fit through.
Other than that, I really like the unit, the remote control is fantastic, providing you with a digital display (with backlight) of what mode the unit is in, fan speed, the current temperature setting, etc.
I like that the louver auto opens and closes as well. There is an ionizer but I have no idea how to test that it’s doing anything other than I know it’s set to “on”. The unit generates about 60dB of noise from 3ft away at high fan speed.
The noise doesn’t bother me cause I like it while I work However, I can see how it might become annoying if you were living in a small space and relying on this as your primary cooling. Pros: Excellent Cooling Performance Remote Control with LCD feedback Dehumidifier Mode Ionizer Fan Only Mode (does not require exhaust hose) Shutdown Timer Washable Filter and Filter Clean Reminders Cons: The window venting kit could be better Some might find it noisy Overall – it cools extremely well but the supplied window venting kit makes it a “set it and forget it” product more than a portable one.
It’s basically a window unit with wheels that sits on the floor in front of the window, and if that’s what you are looking for, I do recommend.

We love it, it serves our purpose in a small houseboat. My only complaint is that the shift < > did not work, but no big deal as we can manipulate it manually if needed rather than the hassle of trying to send it back.
It is a great product other than that glitch, just hoping that is not a prelude to it;s future. The above review was written in 2020 , just after purchase. We are currently purchasing another unit. The first one totally quit after 13 months.
Just after warranty expired. We are purchasing another, much to my displeasure, but my husband thinks the other one was possibly defective. We’ll see. The first one was only used for cooling for a total of 5 months.
July, August and part of September of 2020, and June, July, of this year,21. I hope we have more luck with this next one. If not AUX will get a terrible review.
I brought a few same units. While almost 90% of AC is produced in China. AUX uses its own brand to sell in US. Good value. Additional info. The same model is 20-30% cheaper in China. Also installation cost is very low in China.
US you are probably either DIY or pay HVAC company 600$ to install one. The only suggestion that it could be better instruction, which will save customers’ time and support’s time. The product use different labelling than common U.
S. appliances. The indoor connects to outdoor unit via 4 wires, L1 (Red), L2 (Black), S(White) and Ground (Yellow-Green). All units are pre-wired in the indoor unit, while One unit was not wired at all.
How to connect: 1. Outdoor unit to main power: 3 wires The outdoor unit connection port has labels (L, N, S, and Ground), which should connect to 110V via 3 wires, L- Black (hot wire), N – White (neutural), and Ground.
S should be left without any wiring from external power. 2. Outdoor unit to indoor unit: 4 wires L1 goes to L, L2 goes to N, S goes to White, Ground goest to Ground. If you wire them wrongly, of course it will not run.
(Manual can be better written with colored wiring connection). As you can see, this labelling system is very confusing.
Anyone have a photo of the connections to the outside unit? The instructions are. confusing. Addendum : Finally figured out the wiring connections. Works. Well. Dead quiet. Cools a 15×15 room (with 9 foot ceilings) no problem, even when it’s pushing 100 degrees & 100% humidity outside.
I did a DIY install. May be a little much for a beginner, but if your good enough to follow the guys on PBS’s “This Old House” (and understand what they’re saying) you’ll should be okay. I was a little confused with the wiring at first, for some reason I thought it plugged into a regular 110 outlet through the indoor part.
It does not. You’ll have to run 30 amp wiring (and a 30 amp breaker) to your electrical panel, and add a weather proof cut off box outside by your unit (USA building codes). And run all your outside wiring through shielding.
The inside unit gets it power from the outside part. For some reason I was expecting about the same noise levels and air flow as a 12,000 btu window unit. It’s nothing like that. As I mentioned the inside unit is amazing quiet, and the airflow is much less than what you would get from an equivalent window unit.
But it DOES get the job done just fine, and the noise levels (or a lack thereof) is simply amazing. So now you know what to expect. Hope this helps you out, wish I could have read a review like this BEFORE I bought the thing.
Would have made the install go a lot quicker. As is probably took me 5-6 hours to install the first one, the second one should take about 1 hour once you know what your doing.
