20 Best 6 Person Tents For Camping (2023 Updated)

Bought this from REI for our family of four as a car camping option (because toddlers take a ton of extra gear space, and I don’t want to store gear in the vestibule with desert spiders/snakes and an exploring toddler).

Decided to do a test run at a local park that allowed overnight camping – mostly desert conditions next to a reservoir. Ground was dry and hard (typical July). Wind was 15-25 mph, so I knew I needed the rain fly to keep the wind off us.

This meant everything needed to be well staked-down. Of the 10 stakes provided (ironically, Kelty has branded them ‘Nobendium’), 8 immediately bent to the point they were unusable after just that one attempt hammering them in (yes I know how to use a hammer – the stakes are just cheap).

I ended up driving 20 minutes back home and getting a spare set of beefier stakes from another tent. If you’re going to deal with the weight of a 6-person tent, buy some 3/8-inch steel/aluminum stakes.

You can pound on them all day and they won’t bend. But, once the stakes were in, everything held really well. Minimal flapping for such a high profile, and generously sized to accommodate my 6’0” height.

I’d buy it again, but the stakes were silly.

I bought the Kelty Wireless 4 person tent for car camping with my 2 year old daughter. We took it out on mother’s day weekend. One big reason I bought this tent is the ease of setting up the tent. As advertised pitching the tent was very easy for the first time.

I did it mostly on my own, I did have help due to rain coming in. Truly was able to test this tent to the fullest. The weather was rainy and very wet. The tent did not leak and felt very secure. This was my daughter’s first camping trip, she loved this tent.

To make her comfortable I put a queen size air mattress in the tent. There was plenty of room to move around and put our bags in the tent. The vents on the rain fly came in handy to get some extra airflow.

The tent construction is sturdy and well done. The poles are good quality. I would highly recommend this tent to others.

I’m a first time camper preparing to take my daughter camping with her Girl Scout troop next weekend. Thank goodness I tried putting this tent up at home before arriving at the campground because it contained no stakes! We went to Walmart to get 4 stakes and had a gracious neighbor give four some more, which you do need for the rain fly and welcome mat thing.

Once we had the stakes, it was easy enough to put together and we like it very much. Not sure if the stakes were left out of the package or if they simply aren’t included. If the latter, it would have been nice to know how many are required.

I purchased the tent from the Coleman website.

I spent $80 on one of these tents 24 years ago & still use it. When my kids were old enough to camp, I let them use this tent because it was so easy to set up. I just bought each of them their own. This humble tent has survived regular use in all 4 seasons of the Michigan & Wisconsin North woods.

It has not let water in yet despite some impressive rain storms, though I do waterproof it every few years. I think I used seam sealer on it once or twice. Its all stained up from years of leaves, sap, pine needles, occasionally being wet in the bag for a week, but I think of it as patina.

The floor has never torn, nor has the canvas. It even still smells ok inside. For $80.

I acquired this tent in 4/2021 but did didn’t use it until the next month. I had it on two camping trips total in 2021 and just brought it on the third trip for Memorial Day weekend this year. Two parts broke on that trip: one of the metal connectors at the end of the pole, and one of the plastic clips on the tent that hooks onto the poles.

Just my luck, I was just one month out of the 12 month warranty period when it broke. All Coleman offered was a 20% off coupon which I personally would not spend more on a Coleman tent if I’m only going to get 3 uses out of it.

I liked the size of the tent and it actually packed in a fairly small package that was light to carry. The tent was easy to set up and had enough space for our 3 fairly wide sleeping pads and a few of our bags.

The body of the tent is mesh only so it’s pretty breezy and keeping heat in would be an issue on cooler nights. Unfortunately, on the only day it rained during our first time camping out with this tent, water seeped through the seams and started dripping into the tent.

Altitude was extremely helpful and prompt to fix the issue especially considering that we had another camping trip coming up. Though no other reviewers seem to mention a similar issue, I was too afraid to end up with the same problem if I reordered the same tent.

So far I like what I see. Full double wall ventilation seems pretty good as long as you can keep the doors partly open. It guys out in a way that I think it’ll be sturdy in the wind. I was able to put it up by myself for the first time in under 30 min.

That includes attaching the Guy lines. The steaks are trash but all steaks that come with tents especially car camping tents are trash. They’ll be fine for soft ground, I will probably upgrade to some heavier steaks.

There are 2 doors so you don’t have to climb over each other and vestibules on both sides to keep you gear out of the rain. There is no footprint that comes with it so I might make one out of tyvek or trim down a tarp.

Something to protect the bottom and make it so the ground under the vestibules stays dry. Also, there is not a ton of interior storage. It has 4 pockets 1 in each corner. Update: Used this today in the rain for the first time had about 8 leaks.

Seam sealing is no good wherever there is an internal Velcro loop or tie it leaks like crazy. My first impressions but what use is a tent that doesn?t keep you out of the rain?.

First large car camping tent I’ve ever bought. Height is nice, can’t stand up inside but it’s spacious. Double vestibules are also good. Really its just a decent weight, simple and easy to set up, and seems like high quality materials all around.

Zippers are definitely great. Expect this to last a long time. Had it in light rain and it of course did really well, haven’t had the chance to test in real wet weather yet.

For car camping in a small vehicle, this is a lot of space in a small package. Generous for one, with a cot and a chair. Decent for two. Setup is pretty easy, be sure to READ the unusually GOOD directions through first, both sides of the page.

Poles are very long, so consider this when choosing site and before pounding the stakes in – need room to maneuver. The pole sleeves work well, setup was quick. As others have noted, the zipper seems frail, although blessedly quiet.

Also, Kelty could put toggles and loops about a foot below the rear fly velcro tabs so that the rear of the fly can be rolled up halfway and secured for better ventilation in dry weather. You can still do this, it sort of holds itself if you’re careful rolling it.

A clothespin would work, too. Front porch option is great, and unusual. Velcro tabs on fly front are also good, so you don’t need to use zippers for quick privacy needs. You can’t stand up fully, but enough to maneuver fairly comfortably.

Keep this design, Kelty – no one else has it in this size.

Solidly-built and functional car-camping tent. Ample space for our crew of two adults and a toddler. Easy setup. Pitches taut. Fun, retro color scheme. The guy lines can be rolled up into the attached sleeves when not in use.

Included stakes are heavy duty. The front porch awning wins the day as a stow area for gear or as a covered area to hang out. Initially I wondered how the tent would breath with just the one small vent, but the rain fly stakes out nicely creating airflow (not to mention the ventilation options provided by front awning system).

The tent easily fits back into the included carrying pack – no wrestling required. Cons: the front zipper is really tight and requires two hands to zip (may just be my tent, idk). No included ground sheet, which would be recommended to extend life of the tent.

Overall, this is what I feel is a best-in-class considering all factors. For a reasonably priced four person tent with some thoughtful product design, you could do no wrong with the Kelty Rumpus 4. Can’t wait for the next outing!.

This was the best price I found on the rumpus 6. Free shipping and no tax! I like the tent so far and I have used many different styles of tents. The front and back doors are handy. The front vestibule/porch is great and pretty roomy.

The zippers feel smooth and they don’t snag as easily as other tents I have. Setup is very easy once you figure out which end is the front. The rain fly attaches with snap buckles which is nice. Definitely get a footprint or tarp because the floor material is very thin.

We camped in the tent 6 days strait on it’s maiden voyage with no trouble.

My son got a new tent from a family member for Christmas. He’s becoming a big boy now 7yo and wants his own tent. So we needed to downsize from our ozark trail instant up 14×10. And we’ve seen so many core tents through the years camping and always said we’ll be getting a core next.

We chose to go with the dome style because we have a smaller SUV and the downfall with an instant up is the bags are big and space is a premium when packing. We finally got some nice weather here in Upstate NY today and me and the wife decided to put this new tent up.

Instantly I finally realized why everyone loves Core so much. If you’ve been around tents for sometime you know what materials feel like and you can tell what is gonna hold up just by feel. I could immediately tell this was good material and a cut above the rest.

I was really impressed with the quality of the poles they had a heavy feel to them and you can tell they would hold up. The zippers awesome!! The tub like floor is great too and it feels like a good quality floor.

This is a pretty straight forward tent to put up. You put it up like any dome tent. And best of all no issues getting it back into the bag and had a little room to spare. The only thing I wish it had was the tub style floor came up a couple more inches.

But that’s just a wish. Don’t hesitate if you’re bouncing around trying to figure out if it’s the tent for you. Get it!!!.

It really does block out all light. Nothing coming in during daylight and shadows of pur movement from inside at night with lights on. The top vents are great, the bottom can be good but not when it chilly and air right at your pillow.

I really recommend changing the door design. It unzips only at one side and 1 for the bottom. So to get out, if you’re not alone, you have to disturb the other person to unzip it on the one side. The door should be dome shaped like other tents so you can enter into easily and not fall over because you didn’t unzip the second bottom zipper.

Dealing with the door makes it really annoying and overrides the good aspects of this tent.

I’m actually writing this because I wanted people to know about the duration of this very tent, which was the first tent that we purchased from the company. It has lasted for several seasons, 6 to be exact and seriously would have probably lasted longer if my husband wasn’t careless when putting the supports in, because the tent is still fully functional otherwise.

One of the supports snapped in half, which is no fault of core’s! We have camped on the shores of a VERY windy Lake Superior, Wild Rain Storms, Hot Sun, Freezing cold nights, you name it and this tent has probably been through it.

So it was solid, never any water inside, big enough for us to stand up in comfortably, fit a queen mattress and sleep with our two dogs in their kennel in the corner (it’s a big kennel!). The zippers on the door were a bit difficult to open and close at first but my husband put some lubricant on the zipper and it worked perfectly.

Upgrade your tent stakes and boom! This tent is worth every single penny we paid for it and we have since purchased a different model of core tent that we are eager to use this summer!.

The poles are permanently attached to one side of the tent. After untangling the shock cords and fitting all the fiberglass ends into the aluminum sleeves, you have to clip a bunch of hooks to the poles.

They can’t just slide because of the aluminum sleeves on the poles and there aren’t any markings to show where the hooks need to be positioned. If you start the hooks from the top, you have to keep adjusting the spacing.

If you start at the bottom, you can’t access the hooks at the top. All this could have been avoided by NOT BUILDING 1/2 OF EACH POLE INTO THE TENT, or at least marking where on each pole the hooks needed to be clipped.

Even with 2 people, setup is a nightmare.

I got the Coleman 6 person Skydome tent and I want to say first and foremost that I love Coleman products, always have, always will. This tent is a good tent for light camping or backyard overnights for the kids.

Its a nice size but I don’t think you could have more than 3 people in it comfortably and less if you have the blow up mattresses. The only way I could see getting six in it would be all kids, no bags or gear.

Getting the tent put up is always a struggle for me (as with all tents) so I can’t even say that this was something I thought I would be able to do quickly but an expert camper might not have any issues but I struggled same as always so nothing about this one seemed any easier to me.

The tent looks great but the material itself seemed a bit lacking, I cant imagine this would do hardcore camping trips without some kind of rips or tears in the material, it seems a bit thin. The flooring part that comes up the bottom sides is thicker and keeps the ground moisture out and I think would be great if you got caught in some rain.

Overall I like this tent and will use it for those spur of the moment trips for fishing or hiking because its very compact and easy to haul with the bag it comes in. And I will let the grandkids sleep in the backyard in it.

Have only used this once for fairly early season March camping so far. Some good things – lots of height, the colour is really nice, big windows. Some things that weren’t ideal – the windows are not zippered so to open and close them you have to clip in 10 fiddly toggles per window, the bathtub style floor is very thin and doesn’t seem to pull taut at the perimeter so it’s really floppy along the edges, the eave poles rest directly on the seams not in a grommet or socket and the door zipper snags constantly.

Not sure it’s worth the full price but time will tell.

Initially purchased the Canyon 6 and it was too big. The Canyon 4 person tent is a much better size for car camping with 2 adults and our Great Pyrenees. Chose this more expensive model because of the metal (not fibreglass) poles.

Easy to set up, plenty of head room, and having net windows on four sides results in good air flow. The front door is large. It is well suited for California camping in summer. Chose Eureka brand because I’ve had well designed, strong tents from them over the years.

My family got the Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent to use when I was young to go camping which we really enjoyed doing as a family most weekends every summer before my parents got a divorce. My father kept some of the camping equipment that was still in good condition at the family home.

So just a few years later, when me and my now husband, boyfriend at the time, had our daughter, we absolutely wanted to show her the simplicity and enjoyment you can have away from electronics. She wanted to help with everything!!! The Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent is fairly easy and quick to set up.

It DEFINITELY helps keep you dry as we learned one night when while my husband was trying to cook over the tripod, it started to pour rain instantly. Without thinking about the rest of the food, we ran into the tent thinking that it should stop pretty quickly.

Instead, within 1 min of us going into the tent to get dry, we hear noises from right outside the tent and a large group of about 30 raccoons came to take EVERY SINGLE ITEM OF FOOD WE BROUGHT!!! They were tag teaming by sending 1 raccoon in to grab a whole large box of donuts and run out.

Then another would come running right up, dig in the grocery bag and grab a whole bag of bagels, next one- cream cheese, next one- chips, then came over to our cooler that was right outside the tent to get our bottles of water etc.

All my husband, daughter and myself could do is stand there and laugh as we watched them out the window of the tent. We laughed all night UNTIL our daughter had to use the restroom and we were still surrounded by atleast 30 sets of raccoon eyes.

Let’s just say we NEVER visited that camp site again. Then a few years later the movers we hired somehow lost that wonderful memory maker of 2 generations just about 😢 But I would absolutely recommend that Coleman Sundown 6- Person Dome Tent to all the beginner campers or all the experienced campers who still love camping the traditional way.

Great tent. I set it up in my backyard, to give it a trial run (and seam seal) before taking it out camping. There are pros and cons. Pros: Carry bag – the tent comes neatly packed in a carry bag, with tent, poles, rain fly, ground stakes, door mat, and instructions.

Setup – Easy. Set up by myself, with rain fly, in under 15 minutes. Didn’t have to look at the directions. Only suggestion would be to put the word “front” somewhere on the rain fly to indicate which way it goes.

However, a quick glance at the packaging will tell you. Materials – the tent material seems to be of good quality, and should hold up well when taken care of. The zippers are not heavy duty, but i see no issues with them.

The floor is heavy duty tarp material. Screens – the tent has large screen panels on the “ceiling”, which makes for a great view when the rain fly is not on. There is an additional window, and screen on the door for extra viewing and airflow.

Floor Vent – there is a vent near the rear of the tent, which allows for additional airflow. Cord access – there is a small zippered panel in the front corner, that let’s you run an extension cord into the tent.

Other “Pros”: I got the Navy/Grey tent, and the colors are cool. Got some compliments from the neighbors on it. I like that the rain fly comes with the guy lines already attached. The interior gear pockets are fine, good for holding your phone.

Wouldn’t stuff them with anything heavy. There is a little “ring” at the center of the ceiling, to hang a small light. While you could technically fit 2 queen air mattresses, I would not. It leaves no floor space for gear.

I will put in one mattress, and leave the other half of the tent for my kids Pack n’ Play, and gear. It will fit the 3 of us comfortably. However, unless you intend to get cozy, I wouldn’t advise this for 4 adults (but it could be done).

Cons: Stakes – the stakes are just ok. they are the generic skinny steel ones. I would recommend spending an extra $10 bucks and buy some good ones. Footprint – the tent doesn’t come with a footprint, though I imagine this helps keep the cost so low.

Not a big deal, I use a tarp anyways. Door Screen – the upper half of the door can be unzipped to reveal the screen window. I really would have liked if the entire door could be screen, not just the top half.

I also purchased some Coleman Seam Sealer, and sealed all the seams inside the tent, and the rain fly. Some of the seams are taped, but it’s just good practice to spend the time to do this, no matter what brand/cost/etc tent you have.

It saves headache down the road. Overall, I’m very pleased with the tent, and the cost. It will work well for short camping trips with a small family, couple, or individual.

The bag in which the tent and it’s related rods or pins come, is nicely packed inside. Instruction manual is stitched with the bag so it was helpful in windy weather not to worry about it being flown away.

The tent was big enough for a family of three and a dog and had ample space left for keeping something overnight inside that we didn’t want to left it in open. Installation as well as dismantling was really easy.

It comes with small foot mat sort of thing. The flooring is already stitched in it in case someone is worried about keeping extra tarp. Extra tarp is not needed with it. The windows are given that can be opened or closed and few pouches stitched inside to keep your bottle or something in it.

Overall, it was a good experience in camping using this tent.

Overall, a decent tent that is roomy and easy to assemble. Its not going to last if you are a very frequent camper that heads into some heavy duty terrain, but if you camp a few weekends during the summer or want something for the kids to use in the backyard, this tent will work for you.

Actually, this tent is excellent for backyard camping. I received the six person tent, and its big enough to hold a couple twin/full air mattresses for three or four kids, a cooler for snacks and drinks, blankets, and pillows.

No worries about inclement weather rolling in as the tent is waterproof. It can get a little stuffy with the windows zipped up, so if you have a couple of battery or charger block operated fans you can hang in the tent, all the better.

The tent poles are strong enough to hang a few lightweight lights from, or you can tuck a couple into the little storage net at the top of the tent. If you do use this for backyard camping, a little opening has thoughtfully been incorporated into one of the corners so you can run a a power strip out to the tent for lights, a fan, small tv, chargers, etc.

The tent isnt made for tall people as the center of the tent is only 56. My husband is a foot taller than this, so he really has to stoop when inside the tent. My head hits the storage net, but I dont need to bend down as much to move around the inside of the tent.

We use a big king air mattress with this tent, and still have plenty of room for a little bedside camping table and two camping chairs for a little sitting/reading area. Setup is straightforward and quick and doesnt take a Ph.

D. or multiple people. One person can easily set up this six person version in well under ten minutes even moving at a very leisurely, meandering pace. Though the bottom is waterproof, we do set this up over a large tarp in order to protect the floor from any tears or punctures.

The rest of the tent is waterproof as well, even in downpours though you dont want to open the main door as t.

This tent replaces my trusty 14-year old Coleman dome tent which was so reliable, Im keeping it to use as an equipment tent for longer stays. Ive used it once so far for three nights only. My first impression is that its pretty decent.

Its extremely easy and quick to set up–I think I could even set it up in the dark without too much trouble. Understand that it does NOT come with the rain fly I bought that separately. I dont yet know how it will perform in rain, as it didnt rain that weekend where I was camping.

Youre supposed to be able to use this minus the rainfly, but I dont trust that. The 2 vents at the top are tiny maybe an inch high and dont let in much air my old tent had much more top vent area. They could have at least put in 4 vents at the top.

That being said, the large windows on every side were fantastic for cross-ventilation. I had to close them at night, as it was cooler, but I stayed plenty warm. I do wish they had installed some way to tie up the front window flaps I used plastic clips so the flaps didnt hang straight down.

You can tie the door back, but Ive never had a reason to do so–that lets in bugs. The zipper at the top corner of the door is starting to pull a little and remember, this was my first use I hope it lasts.

There is one feature my old tent had that this does not which is pretty essential to me: my old tent had a zipped and flap-covered portal in one corner for my extension cord and that never leaked. This tent does not.

I had to bring my power cord in through the door, and it is really in the way. A flap does cover it, but every time you use the door, you have to arrange the cord for optimal coverage a giant pain in the posterior.

My brother, who has an identical tent and loves it, told me he brought his in through the top, but the only portal I could find was through the vent, which would make the power cord hang down in the middle of the tent.

That would be even worse. Overall, I think its a pretty nice.

Quality seems decent and is easy enough to set up. I did drop a star because the sleeves the tent poles go through are longer than others I have and makes it more challenging to set up. However, the biggest drawback is the tent poles go into plastic holders on the corners instead of metal pieces, which will make them more prone to breaking.

That said, the tent is inexpensive and pretty nice overall.

im leaving a review for this item because it is much higher quality than expected. i slept in 34 degree temp, but was WARMER at night because of the tent quality. the seams are pre-sealed also. the material is a better quality than a normal tent.

the ceiling has a hook for a light. the one small pouch is quite low to the ground and not see through, but the tent is large enough for a 6 foot man and his camping gear. its the best 2 man tent ive ever purchased and i highly recommend the wakeman company based upon my experience with this tent, camping in the field.

This tent is a disaster!!! After 4 pitches had to break out sewing needles and upholestry thread and adhesive tape and Gorilla glue to keep it together. Fiberglass Tent poles break apart continually , bongi cord holding them in, fails , nylon sleeve for pop up easily rip open with slightest resistance.

Seams after just afew months use, breaking open. Do not waste your money on “Lost River” model. Other models might be ok.

Update 8/16/21: It rained! We had a late afternoon thunderstorm pop up this past weekend, but everything inside our tent stayed dry. I sent my teen to zip up the windows, but with the air vents engaged, it didn’t even get stuffy! It was a very humid weekend, however, and the floor got a little damp underneath his sleeping pad, and under the packing blanket I use under my air mattress, likely from condensation.

*** I like space and comfort when I’m sleeping in the woods. There, I said it. On a recent group trip, a friend offered to come back in 5 minutes to help me “pitch” my tent. When she got back, I was staking the guy lines on the rain fly while my air mattress inflated inside.

When it’s just me, I set up a queen air bed and a camp table inside for my lantern, toothbrush, and weather-resistant JBL bluetooth speaker, with room for gear and some aggressive dancing. My 6’2″ husband can stand up inside.

When all three of us camp, my son’s sleeping pad and bag fit just fine and the divider creates a little privacy. Typically, I string solar twinkly lights around it and use a USB bug light/hanging lamp inside.

Tons of screen area mean you catch breezes when it’s hot, and if there’s no rain in the forecast, you can skip the fly and stargaze through the screen ceiling. It’s not light (35 pounds?) but everything goes back in the back no problem when you pack out, including the tarp I use as a footprint (not included).

I’ve lucked out with foul weather so far for two seasons, but I always test it with my garden hose before I use it to make sure it’s still repelling water. Based on that, I’d suggest zipping the windows mostly closed if it’s aggressively rainy, but that seems like common sense to me.

Perhaps the only design change I’d suggest: instead of both the double door and the D-door being on one corner of the tent, shift the D-door over, so when the divider is in use, it’s a truly two-room experience.

My previous tent was a 6 person tent from a major outdoor manufacturer, and, to be fair, it cost more than twice what this one cost. But since that was my reference point, I was a bit surprised at how thin the fabric was on this tent when I received it.

I don’t review tents for a living, so I only know about this tent that I just purchased, and our previous tent, which we still use. So I’m slightly skeptical about how well this new tent will hold up over time.

Certainly, certainly you should get a foot print or a tarp. The air flow is very good. There is a center divider. If you have the center divider up, and the rain fly on, then one room will get fresh air through the two air vents at the bottom and the second room will get a little stuffy in the direct sunlight if you don’t open the divider between them.

On the other hand, in the evening, it retained heat in the closed off room better than I expected. I wish there were pockets up higher for things. With this tent, if you want to keep stuff high up so the baby or a dog won’t get into them, there are no good options, not even something to hang something from the ceiling (that I could see.

) Instant up feature is very nice, I will say that. It takes one person about 4-5 minutes to get the tent unpacked and on a tarp for the first time, then another couple minutes for two people to get the rain fly on, then another couple minutes to get the tent staked down.

The second time you put it up it gets easier, but you still kind of need two people to do the rain fly, if you are of average height like me at any rate. It is, of course, quite heavy and I almost wrenched my shoulder heaving this tent into the car.

So practice safe lifting if you have any physical restrictions or previous injuries. The rain fly itself, I just don’t know how tight to pull the guy wires down. So I did it moderately tight and it was fine.

There was supposed to be thunder storms but they never showed up, so I can’t speak to how well the tent does in the rain. Plenty of space for me and my four boys. The younger boys had a real problem with figuring out the double tent door, they would always leave one zipper open or the other.

The single tent door they could figure out no problem but the zipper on that does jam a bit sometimes. Eventually I figured out that you tug it sideways one way when the rain flap is on the top, and tug it a different direction when the rain flap is on the bottom.

Overall I’m happy and grateful that we have the tent because we needed another tent when we take the whole family camping, and this helps us keep getting out into the woods.

I’ve had this tent for about a month and have used it on several weekend trips. So far it’s been just fantastic. It’s really easy to set up and take down for a 6-person tent, and I can do it myself (I was concerned it would be a two-person job.

While 2 make it easier, it’s definitely not required). The steel poles, the reinforcement points, everything seems really well made and very solid, which is why I got a Kelty. The headroom is awesome- I love being able to stand up in all corners of the tent.

The vestibule is a decent size, and there are a decent number of interior pockets. It has tons of space to sleep two adults, a baby in a playpen, and two dogs, and it’s great to be able to put the baby in there to play during the day as well.

A couple of minor things I would do to improve it: I do wish there were two doors in order to be able to get some air flow on warm evenings when I want to leave the rain fly up to keep out the morning sun.

We unhooked the back of the fly and rolled it up, which works ok. Second, I wish the door had one long zipper instead of two so it could be opened in either direction. Finally, the seams between the wall and the floor are right on the ground, rather than coming up a few inches like a bathtub style.

I haven’t used it in the rain yet, and the sealing looks solid, so I hope this tent holds up to Kelty’s great reputation. But these are pretty minor complaints for a very solid tent. I would definitely get it again.

I love this tent. I bought it for my family, and we recently used it in Mount Timpanogos. I had researched the living daylights out of family tents and read handfuls of reviews from prominent editors for outdoor gear and compared this one to all of its competitors.

I ultimately landed on purchasing this tent for the following reasons: – First, it’s a Kelty. This is probably the tenth Kelty tent I’ve owned, and the company is renowned for its durable products. I have a Kelty tent that is 25 years old, and it’s still a great tent today.

My personal experience with Kelty is that they back up their gear with the best warranty in the entire outdoor business. – Second, it has STEEL poles! This was one of the biggest selling points for me, because it pretty much eliminates the chance that my poles will become wrinkled or bent from fierce winds, crazy kids, and just bein negligent.

– Third, it’s HUGE! This is the biggest 6-person tent in the industry right now. There’s another well-known company that offers a very similar product, but the Sequioa is taller and has more square feet.

The video tutorial for the Sequoia Kelty made is very helpful for knowing how to put it together. It probably took me about fifteen minutes to put it together by myself and maybe just as long to take it down.

So I recommend reviewing that before putting it together. The tent is very comfortable to sleep in. It is well ventilated and gives all the coverage needed to protect its tenants from wind and rain. The storage case for the tent is very big, and it seems to resemble something of a big duffle bag with a zipper that goes right down the center.

This makes taking it out and putting it away much easier than rolling it up and putting it into one of those sleeping bag sacks. One thing of note is that the tent comes with steel stakes. They’re probably 8-10 inches long.

I purchased Kelty’s 12-inch steel stakes, because I didn’t know what kind of stakes it came with. On that note, the steel stakes is an area where Kelty really wins in this regard, because not only do they give you very durable stakes for a tent this size, but they also give you enough stakes for every place to stake this thing down — including all of its guy-out points! One thing I wish this tent had was a gear loft that either cam with it or was offered for sale through Kelty.

The gear loft loops are so far spread apart that I can’t see how the small orange gear loft Kelty sells could stretch out far enough to fit in this thing. But it does come with plenty of side pockets, which I found was sufficient when using this with my family.

I definitely recommend purchasing the footprint with this tent, by the way. That leads me to one more thing that I wish this tent had, which is a more durable floor. The competitors have at least a 150D floor for their 6 person tents, and some other ones have an even more durable floor.

The steel poles are wonderful for this thing, but I also worry a little that the poles are drastically more durable than the fabric of this tent, which may create an uneven balance. But, my experience with Kelty is that they seem to know what they are doing when engineering a tent, so I’m trusting their judgment on this one.

Also, my experience has been that Kelty would repair the tent if I had any problems with it, which is the greatest peace of mind I have in spending so much on a tent like this. The competitors will either warranty their tents for one year or charge a large amount for repairs, but Kelty recently repaired my 25-year-old tent and my only expense in that was paying the cost to ship it to them.

If you have any doubts in purchasing this tent, then I hope this review has been helpful in making a decision. I’m an outdoor gear fanatic and obsess about the engineering of tents and backpacks, and I highly recommend this to anyone out there.

I bought this tent a few weeks ago to replace my 10-year-old 12-person tent. I used it for the first time shortly after receiving it, and my only regret is that I only had one camping trip left for the season! I love the screened-in construction of the tent that allows for beautiful views and air when the rain fly isn’t needed.

I kept the fly on only because I sleep on a cot and there would be zero privacy, but if I had a more secluded space I would have kept it in the bag. One nice feature with the rain fly is a vent on the back that allows for airflow.

Even when it was hot outside, the tent did not feel stuffy. The height of this tent, along with the steep slope of the walls, is what really struck a positive chord for me. I am 6’3″ so I always struggle in short spaces.

The height in this tent was absolutely awesome. The amount of floor space was great as well; two cots and gear for two people and we had plenty of room. We could have easily fit more in if we needed to, but I will likely never have more than a couple of people in this tent.

I was nervous about downsizing from my 12-person, but I was not disappointed. The only downside for me on this tent was the weight and cumbersome nature of the main poles. These steel poles are a lot heavier than I am used to, and the design makes it a bit challenging to get them through the sleeves.

I can put it up myself, but it is definitely easier with help. Overall this is a great tent. I like it so much that I intend to purchase the 4-person version for my son as a gift. Well worth it!.

I just bought this today, but as there were no other reviews at the time I thought it was worth posting my first impressions after setting it up in my yard. I hope to update this review in a few months.

This review is for the 2022 revision, 1 person tent. Any tent seems to be a trade off in weight, durability, size and price. If you’re buying this tent weight should be important to you, otherwise get something more durable and bigger.

But if you’re planning on backpacking with this read on. The tent as shipped (excluding only the exterior tag on the bag) is 31. 9oz. I’m 5’11” and there’s plenty of head room for me to sit-up and lie down inside.

Given the rectangular shape of the tent there is likely enough room for me to put a medium size pack near my feet. There are a couple of stash pockets on the interior which are also nice. The dark green color seems great from my perspective (may help keep the tent a little darker at night, and blend into the woods well).

A few minor things that I wish were different: * I’d rather MSR include the mini ground hog stakes, instead of their needle stakes. The weight change would only be about 1 gram per stake, but I think the ground hogs will hold better * I wish MSR would include an emergency tent pole repair/patch sleeve with the tent.

I’ve no idea how likely this is to be needed, however it’d add piece of mind, would cost them next to nothing, and some of their competitors that use the same poles include it * I wish the top of the tent (i.

e. where your head is when you’re sitting up) is a little wider. When the mesh door is closed it’s bordering on making me feel claustrophobic * It’s weird MSR doesn’t include one of their baked-into-the-tent guy lines on the side of the tent opposite to where the door is.

You’d always want this part staked out, both to keep the fabric taut and as an extra undercover area where you can stash your gear * I don’t believe there is an option to pitch this tent fly first. If it’s raining when you set it up you’ll end up with some water in your tent Overall I’m happy with this tent so far, and picked it instead of its competition (after way too much research) because of it’s relatively light weight and roomy footprint.

My email to North Face. I just wanted to touch base with you after my first experience with my new Wawona 6 tent, the one with the separate rain fly. Basically, I just want to know if I should expect the bottom of the tent to be completely waterproof.

We had decent rain for about an hour and the rain fly protected the top of the tent but a puddle of water made its way between the bottom of the tent and the footprint. This was around 8pm and by 8am the next morning the bottom of our tent was wet inside, as the water had seeped through.

Is this normal for this tent? Thanks. Their response. I am so sorry to hear about your camping experience in the rain. I don’t think you can expect the tent bottom to be completely waterproof. If the bottom of the tent got wet inside it may have been at an angle for the water to flow in.

High quality gear, very lightweight given it’s spacious interior and folds up into a relatively compact bag, no need to press down to fit everything in the bag. Roomy vestibule is a great feature of this tent.

The only con of this is that you cannot use a rainfly without needing to set up a vestibule. Not so much of an issue but could have been more flexible this way. We haven’t tested it a camping yet – looking forward to it.

But I tried to pitch it at home – everything fits just fine. Totally worth it’s price. We are going to use it for 3 persons – 2 adults + 1 child. Found out that Wawona 4 is not roomy enough for 3 person and some gear and maybe some extra space just in case.

So decided to try Wawona 6 and glad we have chosen it.

This tent was very easy to put up and take down, even with no instructions included. There are two black poles, one for the front of the tent and one for the fly. I guessed wrong the first time I was setting up, so I found a video online to check and switched them around.

We camped out in the living room the first weekend we got it because it was going to be storming all night (didn’t want to be in a tent during a lightning storm with three little girls). We all loved it.

So many pockets, and I love that I can stand up all the way through it (not just the middle). 6-people would be way too close for comfort. We had a disc-o-bed bunk (amazing by the way) set up, which took up a lot of room, but we had two adults, a kid, and a Great Dane on the floor beside it.

We had plenty of room. Great family tent! In total we had two adults, three kids, and a very large dog in the tent.

I purchased this tent a bit over a month ago and I have set it up 3 times for use. Once it rained overnight and the tent stayed dry inside. I also purchased the footprint for the tent. Pros: The floor in the front vestibule is nice The tent is really tall and roomy inside There are a lot of pockets in various places around the tent Setup is made easier by color coordinated straps, poles, and buckles Light diffusing pocket in the tent is a nice feature Cons: The grommets for the footprint are tight enough and won’t easily stay connected to the poles without some extra work The window on the fly can only be opened from the outside A buckle on the rainfly broke the second time I used the tent The tent did not come with enough stakes for the guy lines.

This is a bit mind-boggling to me for such a high-end tent. More on this later though, because it is an issue. The all mesh doors are not nice for privacy or wanting to sleep with the rainfly off. They also let in a lot of breeze which will be nice during the summer, but not as nice when it was colder The concerning part is that the fly touches the tent in around the area of the windows on both sides.

I was told the only way to fix this is to use the guy lines, but as I mentioned above, the tent came with lines, but not enough stakes. This is also an issue because I do not camp in windy areas, and I have a kid running around.

I don’t want to have to set up a tripping hazard around my kid if I can help it. In my opinion, this is a huge deal. The fly should not touch the inner tent. Overall, I am pretty disappointed in this tent.

The size of the tent is interesting. it’s plenty big for three people and bags/dog, but four fills it. It fits on tent pad sites, but barely. The interior is really nice and the quality of the poles, fabric, waterproofness all were tested and held up well on a two week Rocky Mountain trip.

The stakes are complete junk and bent or broke on first use. The vestibule system is awful. the way it works as a tarp and sealed both are lacking. The tarp version is unnecessarily difficult to set up and light rain pools in the middle.

The sealed up version is not easy to get in and out of. On the ground, the vestibule has a fabric section that is annoying and gets filthy. Bring a patch of outdoor carpet instead or to put over it. The vestibule also has loops for hanging stuff and pockets which seemed cool but we found pretty useless.

Hanging things to dry there overnight didn’t work if the rainfly was closed, for example. In the end, while we like some of this tent, we wish we didn’t buy this but it’ll work for some years since we spent so much on it.

I have a warranty claim with Marmot but they are out of parts. The rainfly touches the inner tent in multiple places. This is a big problem in my opinion. I purchased the footprint, but it connects with grommets and doesn’t hold tight.

Overall, the tent has potential and I do like the tent, but ultimately it’s got some issues.
