A 30 gallon fish tank filter is a filtration system that helps to keep the water in a fish tank clean and free of debris. The filter works by drawing water in from the tank and then passing it through a series of filtration media that remove impurities from the water.
The filtered water is then returned to the tank.
There are a variety of different types of filters available on the market, but most 30 gallon fish tank filters will include some type of mechanical filtration, chemical filtration, and biological filtration.
Mechanical filtration works to remove physical debris from the water, such as uneaten food, fish waste, and plant matter. Chemical filtration uses chemicals to remove dissolved impurities from the water, such as ammonia and nitrites.
Biological filtration provides a home for beneficial bacteria that help to break down waste products in the water.
It is important to choose a filter that is rated for the size of your fish tank, as a filter that is too small will not be able to effectively filter the water and a filter that is too large can cause water flow problems.
It is also important to regularly clean the filter media to prevent it from becoming clogged and ineffective.
The Tetra Whisper IQ Filter 20 is made for 20 gallon aquariums and utilizes medium filter cartridges. This quiet, durable and easy filter system uses StayClean Technology to provide easier maintenance and healthier fish.
A soft barrier decouples the motor from the filter to produce sound less than 40 dB, so you can keep a clean aquarium without all the background noise. Tetra Whisper IQ filters are easy to use, clean and startup with their submerged motor and flow control capabilities.
Reduce flow as low as 10 GPH for Bettas, plants, feeding and other low flow needs. The adjustable intake telescoped up or down to fit your aquarium needs and the smart path spillway oxygenates the water.
StayClean technology uses Ultra-Activated Carbon to remove impurities, dual sided floss to remove dirt and debris and a StayClean tablet for healthy water and cleaner glass. It is safe for freshwater or marine fish, live plants and snails.
I bought this filter for my 20 gal (long) tank. I needed a filter, I’ve used this brand in the past without problems, so I purchased this model. I over filter my large tanks, but not the 20 gallon one as it isn’t necessary given the critters in the tank.
However, this was the only Tetra Whisper filter over 10 gallon size on the shelf. I had to make a minor adjustment in the intake tubing, but it was worth it to get a dependable filter. It’s quiet and highly efficient.
I bought this for a 20 gallon long tank thinking I would lower the flow volume just to have the extra capacity, if I needed it. I bought and returned two of these as they were too noisy. There was an annoying vibration noise coming from the motor(one was a bit worse than the other).
It seems the impeller is not well balanced as I could see the intake shaking. My IQ 10 was great and super quiet. I wound up just installing the IQ 20 and it is quiet and working fine. Seems that they need to balance their impellers better for their higher speed motors.
I purchased this filter about three months ago and i loved it! kept my tank full of goldfish cycled. i went to clean my tank and filter yesterday and when i went to turn the filter on again, it worked for a moment then died.
i took it all apart then back together and i could hear it run but nothing was happening. so franticaly i went and got another filter (another tetra but for a 45 Gallon) this one worked for about an hour then stopped working.
took it apart and together again twice. checked the outlets but everything else on the power strip worked. i went yet again back to petco and got another tetra filter (20 gallons) this on has stayed workinf but im afraid it wont be able to keep up wihe the tank even tho the tank is a 20 gallon and now im too afraif to be that person and return a filter Again.
So in the middle of the night i decided to try and get the 60 Gallon filter working and would you look at that it started. i woke up in the morning to it dead again and a very cloudy tank. i dont have the money to go buy another filter.
just wish the firsy expensive filter didnt die on me so fast.
CASCADE 1000 CANISTER FILTER: Without effort, the Cascade 1000 Canister Filter quietly delivers crystal clear water throughout the tank. This filter cycles water at 265 Gallons per Hour, and is recommended for aquariums up to 100 gallons.
It’s compatible for both freshwater and saltwater fish tanks, and is also great for turtle habitats! STATE OF THE ART FEATURES: In addition to the push button primer that allows for a simple and quick prime, this Canister Filter also features two independent valve taps that rotate 360°.
This makes for easy maneuvering, even in the tightest aquarium cabinets! The 3 stackable, large capacity media baskets give aquarists the ability to customize filtration. FILTER MEDIA: This Canister Filter comes standard with 3 Poly Fiber Floss Pads, 1 Coarse Bio-Sponge, and 1 Bag of Activated Carbon.
In addition to optimizing the colonization of anaerobic bacteria, this filter traps floating particulate matter, removes harmful chemicals and toxins, clears up discolorations, and reduces foul odors from your aquarium’s water.
ITEMS INCLUDED: 2 Independent Valve Taps, Push Button Primer, Flow Rate Control Cut-Off Valves, Swimming-Pool Style Hose Clamps, 4 Easy Lift Alignment Clamps, Sturdy Tip-Proof Base, 3 Large Capacity Media Baskets, 3 Poly Fiber Floss Pads, 1 Coarse Bio-Sponge, and 1 Bag of Activated Carbon.
MEASUREMENTS AND OTHER USEFUL INFO: The Cascade 1000 Canister Filter measures 11. 5” (W) x 10” (D) x 17” (H). Additional Info = 110 Volts / 60 Hz / 28. 5 W.
I have now had 2 of these (a 500 and 700) and both have had a problem with the back side of the power head leaking, and the baskets do not have seals so water just goes around the edges unfiltered. You either have to create some type of seal (I have heard of using filter floss), or deal with a filter that doesn’t properly filter.
Regarding the leaks I do not see any cracks, and the seals seem alright, but they both leak pretty bad. At this point I have had multiple fish die because I don’t have a filter, my oak aquarium stand has been ruined by the water leakage and it has ruined part of my carpet as well.
They are both kept in containers and periodically checked to look for leaks. The leaks just come from nowhere and flood everywhere. I have also had the connector where the intake tube goes to the hose break and had to order replacements as well.
Spend the extra money and buy a better filter. Both my fish and axolotyls need new filters because these leak and don’t filter well. Reimbursement for the filters, damage and/or death and/or time would be greatly appreciated.
Bought as a replacement for a TopFin canister filter that cracked. Filter has a lot more flow than my old unit, even though they were both sized for a 60 gallon tank. I actually had to turn this one down.
The spray bar arrangement and return line fit the tank better and actually stay put. There is also an optional powerhead spout that can be used in place of the spray bar. Downside to this filter is that it is noisier than the TopFin.
It comes with activated charcoal instead of bio balls. The primer is a manual pump button. The only way to adjust the flow rate is to open/close the valves since the filter motor speed is non-adjustable.
The hoses that attach to the canister filter screw on instead of using quick releases. The instructions are pretty abysmal and lack a lot of detail. The secret to getting this canister filter primed is to make sure the spray bar is fully submerged.
It works good once you figure out that little detail which is missing from the instructions.
I got this filter because the dimensions fits my cabinet or else I would have got a Sunsun. This filter isn’t as expensive as Fluvals or inexpensive like Sunsun. It right in between. I have it on a 75 gallon.
It is very powerful and keeps the tank water very clean. The bad thing is that it isn’t as quiet as most canisters. I have a Sunsun and Eheim that are very quiet. The Penn Plex Cascade 1000 sounds like a large hang on the back filter, minus the water sound.
You can hear the humming coming from the motor. Sound similar to a refrigerator. Make sure to fill the filter with water, press the button a few times, and cut the tubes to size before plugging in the filter.
If the tubes aren’t cut to length and is long, the filter will not get a good siphon going, and may not start. Overall va very good filter. I just wish that it was more quiet. As I mostly purchased canisters for the quietness and sufficient.
There’s more to fishkeeping than selecting some fish, buying an aquarium and calling it a day. This Aqua-Tech 30 to 60-gallon aquarium filter helps create a cleaner tank for your fish so they can live a happy and healthy life.
It uses Bio-Tech advanced complete 3-stage biological filtration for ultra-quiet operation and removes dissolved waste. The cartridge floss screens out dirt and debris, and it has a molded ribbed back for maximum water-to-carbon contact.
Activated carbon removes odors, discolorations and impurities, while the biological grid eliminates toxic ammonia and nitrite on contact. With little maintenance required, this aquarium water filter is fast to clean and easy to use.
It also takes the guesswork out of replacing your filter cartridge.
I’ve been using the aqua-tech filter for about a year now, while the filters worked property they were great. i replaced the filter for the first time about 4 to 5 months ago and now today the filter went out again.
now i cant complain to much as it is a 40 dollar filter. needless to say i wont be buying this filter again. the product is great for beginners just getting in the the aquarium world. ive been in the hobby for a long while now.
the product did a nice job keeping the water clear while it was working.
I’ve had this for my 55 gallon tank for about a year, with small turtles and fish, the turtles go to the pond when they get bigger. The only problem I had with it after one year was the flow slowed down.
After cleaning and taking apart, it seems there is a rubber washer that holds the propeller next to the motor to move the water. It seems that the rubber washer looses it’s ability to hold the propeller down next to the motor correctly every time the propeller is reinserted.
But the media replacement is inexpensive and easy to find with multiple brands making the type “C” cartridges. It is very quiet and moves a lot of water for the price. Even if I have to replace the main filter every year or two the money I save on cartridges will more than make up for that.
I was going to go with a bio-wheel filter, but read many reviews about how noisy they can get over time, not worth it to me. I’ll stick with the less expensive above average filter.
I have bought 3 of this filters in one month because they stop working after a week. All 3 stopped sucking water. I called customer service to see if they would do anything for me since I have bought this filter 3 times now and he was so unbelievably rude and seemed very annoyed I was calling.
I will never buy this filter again because my fish and pocket have suffered.
Adjustable 132gph Filter Flow Rate with Surface Skimmer to eliminate undesired surface films Features a 5W UV Sterilizer. Helps eliminate algae and bacteria, keeping aquarium water crystal clear Suitable Aquarium Tank Size: 10 to 30 Gallons Dimension: 7.
6 x 4. 4 x 6. 5in (192 x 110. 5 x 165mm) Biological and mechanical filtration. Box includes active carbon and bio media The Grech CBG-Series Hang-On Back UV Filter comes with a diverse and unique design.
While being suitable for freshwater and saltwater aquariums, its style is a “Hang-On Back,” making it convenient for daily use. The filter is beautifully crafted to allow a simple installation and silent operation.
Water flow can be control accord to your aquarium needs. The CBG-Series has a biological and mechanical filtration and comes with active carbon and bio media. The CBG-Series also features a 5W UV Sterilizer which can be turned on and off.
The UV Sterilizer helps in eliminating algae, keeping aquarium water clear, and aids in the health of aquatic animals from free-floating parasites. The controllable surface skimmer can reduce surface oil from your aquarium tank.
This filter has some very nice features. Like many emerging HOT filters with UV sterilization they seem to be going through some growing pains. It is not possible to run the filter “wide” open without water spilling over the bypass (the area where the intake tube passes into the filter box).
Also, if the sponge clogs up at all the filter starts to bypass. This suggest the sponge filter is on the small side. Time will tell if the impeller housing and UV ballast clamps will hold up. This is a little concerning because the bottom motor drive and ballast drops out of the bottom of the filter presumably for cleaning.
There is an O-ring seal that looks to be high quality silicon but if this ever fails it would allow the intake to siphon your tank down if it ever leaks and someday it WILL leak. Overall though, it has nice features.
Nice design I like the telescoping water inlet, protein skimmer, U V lite ,no idea if it works ,easy filter cleaning. It could use a filter bypass feature to keep water circulation during feeding. Thought it a great idea for a filter and would recommend.
I’m running the 500 on my 20H and love it. You can adjust the filter basket however you like, which is a feature that can be hard to find in an HOB filter (I added Purigen and a nitrate-reducing filter pad, plus some extra ceramic media).
It’s not the quietest filter I’ve ever had, but it’s no worse than the hum of a refrigerator. The adjustable flow is great for feeding time to keep food from being sucked up before the fish have a chance to eat it, but be careful.
The knobs can pop off (though they’ll pop right back in). The filter does need to be primed when you turn it on, but that’s maybe an extra 20-30 seconds of work, so no big deal. For the price you pay and what you get (surface skimmer, UV light, customizable media basket, adjustable flow), this filter is hard to beat.
These filters offer powerful aquarium filtration from 1. 5 gallons to 50 gallons. Internal filters are a popular choice for small aquariums, terrariums and any aquarium with a strong current for fish, plants or anemones.
Each filter is fully submersible and can be positioned vertically or horizontally according to your aquarium requirements. All four Cascade internal filters have a venturi air nozzle and muffler tube that allows you to oxygenate the flow of water back into your aquarium to ensure that your animals have the highest quality filtered water back into your aquarium.
Each filter also includes a flow control system that allows you to regulate the flow of filtered water to the aquarium again. Each filter also contains a directional spout that allows you to direct the water flow in any direction you want.
The three larger filters also include a spray bar, which can be used to evenly distribute the filtered water across the surface of your aquarium instead of the directional spout.
Ran this filter in 2 separate tanks. In a 30 gallon with aquatic frogs as the main filter and as a redundant filter in a 72 gallon tropical fish tank. I have had 4 of these filters, all have come with small cracks on the plastic housing.
I have cleaned and replaced media on these filters on a 3 to 6 month basis and they all have the same issue. They will eventually stop pushing water out at a steady rate. The motor makes a ton of noise as well.
I do not recommend this filter unless you are in a pinch and just need a temporary solution.
It works well enough. My problem is taking it apart! You have to press and pull at the same time. It is impossible with longer fingernails, small or arthritic hands. I’m looking for a second non submersible filter, so I won’t have to clean this one as often.
Should have gotten my son a bigger one for his turtle. Water is still cloudy after a week and a half of waiting to see if it was just going to take a bit of time to work. I’m going to cave and just clean the tank.
Also when it came the bottom part where the 2nd filter is was jammed together and the clips to hold it together were broken. We put the end of it against the glass of his tank to keep it together so that was an easy fix but still when you pay hard earned money you don’t expect it to be broken and jammed together.
A revolutionary bio-falls quad-filtration systemplus the polyfiber floss cartridge traps floating particulate matter. Activated carbon cartridge removes harmful chemicals, toxins, odors, discoloration and other contaminants.
Internal sponge optimizes colonization of beneficial aerobic bacteria and removes ammonia and nitrites, and external bio-falls wetdry biological booster for additional ammonia and nitrite removal and enhances oxygen exchange for maximum water oxygenation.
Quiet and efficient motor with adjustable flow control. Pumps 300 g. p. h. Polyfiber floss cartridge. Activated carbon cartridge internal sponge.
I’m very happy with this small filter in the 2. 5 months it’s been in constant operation. I have it on the back of a small 5-gallon tank that is on my office desk next to the desktop computer, so that while I’m waiting for videos or whatever, I can glance over at the tank; therefore, it’s imperative that the filter be very quiet and not a distraction.
This filter is so quiet in operation that I have to look at the filter box to see motion and know it’s working. There’s an adjustment knob to change the rate of operation, which is useful when feeding the fish.
The plastic filter box is a pretty blue color and quite roomy (6″ wide, 6″ high, 2. 5″ deep). I don’t use the carbon insert because I don’t believe in that form of filtration; instead, I replaced it with a nylon media bag full to the maximum of Biohome filter medium thus providing more surface for beneficial bacteria growth.
The filter intake wand is extendable to go deep into the tank to catch the debris at the bottom. The unit is relatively easy to clean. Finally, I like the fact that the filter motor is only 4 watts, so it’s energy-efficient, doing the job using little electricity!.
As soon as I took it out of the box, small pieces fell everywhere. A piece that holds the pump away from the side of the tank had broken. The plastic on the blue part was very scratched up. If you are ordering this for a 10 gallon tank that has a lid on it then you should know that your fish tank lid will not fit back on because this pump is very wide.
wider than the slot on the tank lid. I took the lid off and hung this pump over the back of the tank to see if it worked ok. It seems functional but after four days it still hasn’t done much to clear the water.
I will probably order a different pump so I can use my tank lid again.
This is a very quiet self-priming filter. It doesn’t throw the fish around the tank because of the quad piece hanging over the waterfall. I changed the media to make it more economical to run. I replaced the biosponge with a 30 PPI sponge.
Then turned the sponge holder around to hold a cut to fit media pad. Charcoal is not necessary, but there are charcoal infused media pads available if you want it. The cartridge can be rebuilt by adding loose charcoal and sewing a media pad to it.
Removes and controls harmful ammonia and nitrite Ideal for new or heavily populated freshwater aquariums Replacement media designed to fit the AquaClear 30 filter Only suitable for freshwater aquariums up to 30 gallons Includes three AquaClear 30 Ammonia Remover Inserts.
I have used the Aqua Clear Biomax filter insert for two years and love it. I do not change monthly because I use the sponge, carbon and ammonia inserts. I only change the Biomax filter insert every 4 months.
I change one filter media per month. Keeps my aquarium fresh and clear. Even after water changes and cleaning it takes about 15 min for my 20gal tank to get clear again. Love this product.
I always check Chewy now before going to the local pet store. 9 times out of 10 I will find it cheaper here. All of my fish died in the Arctic weather we had here in Texas, I tried all I could to keep them alive but was unable without any heat source.
I will continue to buy here once I rebuild my tank in the future.
Perfect size I bought this to go inside the S10 filter in the first chamber. I’ve used these for years and they last forever. everyone should run some of these it just in case you have to set up a new aquarium than you’ve got biological media ready to go.
Clear-free premium undergravel filter is a two filter plate system. Undergravel filter has a Jumbo 1 inch Adjustable lift tube. Filter is easy to set up and designed to have trouble free MAINTENANCE.
Undergravel filter keeps your aquarium looking crystal clear. Designed to fit a 15/20H gallon aquarium. Penn-Plax clear free undergravel aquarium filters provide your aquarium with crystal clear filtered water, without any of the headaches typically associated with more ‘high Tech’ Filters.
clear free filters can be assembled in about five minutes. Once assembled, all youll need to do is hook your new filter up to an air pump or power head to provide powerful, efficient filtration.
these work great use lift tube on one end connected to canister filter other end a power head or 2 power heads use corner filters for bio and chemipure or canister. i have had a tank that only needs filter maint.
and add water for over a year. shoot the flow direction of filter and powerhead at front center of tank to cross flow creating turbulent flow. other than monthly lite vacuming and keeping either the canister retun or powerhead above water at least.
5 inch for airation for amonia pretty maint free note use boyds chemipure.
I like the concept but I also run a basic 10 gallon filter that came with the tank. The tower/filter catches more of the air bubbles than gets into the water. The filter “towers” are a bit difficult attaching to the bottom filter.
This filter is ok, but not as good as my old one. The fish waste sits on top of the gravel; and accumulates on the edges of the tank. I have 6 fish in a 35 gallon tank; so I don’t have an overcrowded tank by no means.
Fluval U Series Underwater Filters provide complete and efficient 3-stage filtration, including BIOMAX biological filtering (U2, U3 and U4 models), to create superior aquarium water quality. The complete line, consisting of Fluval U1, U2, U3 and U4 Underwater Filters, includes many practical and versatile features that make them ideal for application in fresh, marine and reptile environments.
Fluval U series filters provide the option of setting the flow output in 3 different positions, a key benchmark in underwater filtration. The Adjustable 3-Way Flow Control feature (U2, U3 and U4 models) lets you position the water flow output to meet your specific needs.
The Top Output setting provides maximum circulation and oxygenation, the Integrated Spray Bar setting provides a gentle, even flow for planted aquariums, and the Bottom Output setting is for deepwater agitation.
Fluval U Filters also include a convenient flip-top lid that allows quick and easy access to the filter cartridge for maintenance or replacement. In addition, Fluval U Filters offer installation versatility: they can be installed vertically against the aquarium wall to create currents or customized flow patterns or they can be placed horizontally in shallow water tanks or to create decorative features such as waterfalls.
The Fluval U1 Underwater Filter is ideal for use in fresh, marine or reptile environments. Use the U1 as a primary filter in smaller aquariums or as a supplementary filter for larger aquariums. It is also ideal for tanks with low water levels.
The U1 includes an adjustable flow control and comes complete with 1 foam pad. Fluval U1 is suitable for aquariums up to 55 L (15 U. S. gal. ).
Having had poor success with replacement external filters for my 200L tank, I purchased this internal filter and wowee! It is dead quiet and the water is crystal clear. Doesn’t do any damage to plants despite having two flow spouts.
What’s really great is that the slot design for the suction cups is improved so that the cups are fitted by pushing them into easy to fit slots instead of pressing them into holes. My cichlids seem to have a new lease of life as they’re swimming more vigorously.
Great product. Except the green spinning blades on the impeller assembly. Fluval won’t mail you just the 25cent replacement plastic. They sell the full magnetic impeller assembly for $17. A new filter costs ya $37.
Do the math – Fluval customer service sucks and they only care about selling more. Not helping their knowlegable customers with a quick easy repair option.
I have what is basically this filter, just the smaller versions, in 5 other aquariums. They filter well and have no more issues than any outside or canister filter. The fact that I can access them from the tank is a plus.
The water is clean and the output can be directed fairly well in a given direction. I do have to have 2, as they are in a 100 gallon tank, which is above the rating for one. Not cheap, but haven’t found an inexpensive filter that works.
Cascade Hang-On Power Filters feature a revolutionary Bio-Falls Quad Filtration System. 1) The Polyfiber Floss Cartridge trap floating particulate matter, 2) The Activated Carbon Cartridge removes harmful chemicals, toxins, odours, discoloration and other contaminants, 3) The Internal Sponge optimises the colonisation of beneficial aerobic bacteria while removing ammonia and nitrites, and 4) The External Bio-Falls wet/dry biological booster provides additional ammonia and nitrite removal and enhances oxygen exchange for maximum water oxygenation.
Recommended for fresh water applications, this filter attaches easily to your tank. A levelling device keeps your filter in position and the self-priming intake tube has a built-in extendable stem to allow placement of the intake strainer close to the bottom of most aquariums.
Filter includes an adjustable flow control knob to reduce filtration during feeding times or as needed, and the quiet and efficient motor is maintanance free. Comes with bio floss and activated carbon cartridges and is ready to use.
Size: Cascade. 100 Fliters 100 gallons per hour for use in aquariums up to 25 gallons in size. Revolutionary Bio-Falls Quad-Filtration system provides efficient filtration with additional ammonia and nitrite removal.
First, the description on the item is wrong — this item does not have the UV Sterilizer component to it. Unfortunately, I did not realize it before installing and running. Had I realized it, the item would have been returned — pronto.
So, now that the item is running it is woefully inadequate — surface space on the “filter” medium is small and will clog within hours, forcing the water over the lip by the intake siphon, effectively bypassing the filter cartridge.
The only good thing to be said about the unit is it’s quiet! Bottom line, don’t waste your money.
Cant find one thing to knock on this filter. Super quiet and easy to put together. I would recommend taking the time to read the instructions that it came with but for the most part, its self explanatory.
I myself did not use the filters that it came with but rather bought some filter foam and cut it to the right size. Now I have a good filter and I never have to buy replacement filters for it. P. S. I did buy pre-filter sponges for it but its certainly is not required.
For convenience and quiet, choose this Tetra Whisper Filter. It’s easy to install and use, as you canmount it on the inside of the aquarium, rather than hanging from the outside. These 10-30 Tetra internal filters are unusually quiet, since the motor’s under the water.
Offering the same quality and performance as an external filter, it’ll function in as little as 2 inch of water, allowing it to be used for turtle tanks or for creating a waterfall inside the tank. This Tetra Whisper Filter uses Tetra’s Bio Foam, which eliminates toxic ammonia and nitrates that are not healthy for fish.
Designed for aquariums up to 30 gal, it’s easy to adjust in high or low water levels with mounting suction cups and/or brackets. Each 30 gal fish tank filtercomes with one whisper filter cartridge. It also gives you access to the freeMy Aquarium app, which makes it easier to maintain your new tank.
This way, you can get regular reminders to clean and maintain it, simplifying the care process.
This is my second Whisper 10-30, I purchased the first one used and it lasted about 10 years before finally giving out. Probably would have lasted longer if I hadn’t neglected to clean it out and let the water run down (we are in the middle of a remodel).
I have two of these running in a tank with about 25 gallons of water with a turtle and it isn’t getting the water crystal clean. Turtles are really messy though so I have been working on a new way to counteract this as I figure this wasn’t made for turtles.
However, if you look at the image of the box, the bottom left shows a turtle so honestly this power filter really doesn’t perform as well as it should. The water has been steadily changing to a goldish-brown color and getting more and more cloudy.
I had this in my 10 gallon tank with perfect water level and after TWO DAYS it was dumping goldfish water into my living room carpet, which is drying out as I type this. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS FILTER! Buy a good quality one.
I regret replacing my Grreat Choice filter as it was much better than this one. The only reason I switched was because I could not get the Grreat Choice filter replacements in my town. I will be ordering them online to get them.
Stay away from this filter. JUNK! I wish I’d paid more attention to the negative reviews here on this item. I’d give it negative stars if I could, -5!.
Compact design combined with powerful performance. This high quality canister filter boasts a unique self-priming mechanism with an adjustable flow for unmatched control and accuracy. Suitable for use in both freshwater and saltwater environments.
If you can get them to not leak you are in good shape but the wind hits these right you have a major water leak. Bought 2 and I will never put these on my aquarium ever again. Seen video on YouTube on how to prep so it doesnt leak, followed their steps (thats a warning right there).
Could only get one of them to not leak. Had one on aquarium for a month decided to move the canister literally 5 inches, undid the hose bracket and as soon as I reattached flooding began again and could not get it to stop.
I immediately ripped it off my aquarium. never again. How can anyone sleep well at night knowing these are running on your aquarium? Going back to my Eheim 2262. fYI had a major leak 2 months ago that’s why 1 was on the aquarium at this time and did major flooding under aquarium and on hardwood floors.
I wanted to like these. very quiet but 0% faith they will not flood your cabinet etc at any moment. Smh.
I purchased the Whale 350 to replace a canister filter from Amazon (Polar Aurora 3) that didn’t fit under cabinet with my JBJ 65g aquarium. I like the features and compact size of the Sicce, but it makes a much louder hum sound; I had taken the virtually silent Polar for granted, apparently.
After reviewing and following the videos that Sicce support sent me on how to properly set up and solve Whale noise issues, I’m left to conclude that the Whale is just inherently loud.
I really enjoy it so far, my only complaint with it is some of the components are a little awkward. First time i put it together i misaligned one of the 4 clips and it leaked, but the quick valve was easy enough to use to stop the leak.
Another thing I’m not quite a big fan of is the first basket has a tab, but the two beneath it don’t which makes it hard to remove the baskets from the canister. Flow is good, the hum is about the same as a fluval 207 which this replaced.
The AquaClear 70 Power Filter provides mechanical, chemical and biological filtration through its multi-stage filtration system. The filter filtration volume is up to 7 times larger than comparable Filters.
Its unique design filters aquarium water through a natural and silent waterfall. The patented flow control feature allows for customized filter performance. The filter preserves beneficial bacterial creating a stress free environment for aquarium inhabitants and maintains clear aquarium water.
Installation and maintenance are quick, easy and convenience. The filter comes equipped with AquaClear Foam, Activated Carbon and BioMax. AquaClear delivers an entire line of media including Zeo-Carb and Ammonia Remover exclusively designed for the AquaClear Power Filter.
The AquaClear 70 Power Filter is ideal for use in 152-265L aquariums.
I bought this because I was sick of using the canister filter and I had downgraded from a 55gal to a 36gal and this provided more than enough gph for that size of tank. It was great for the first 2wks then I came home to it sounding like a box of rocks.
Chewy resolved that issue quickly with no worries. I received the replacement and this one was noisy. After some online research and a little Vaseline on the magnet the noise was reduced. With the lid off its almost whisper quiet.
With it on there will be some humming. Apparently, it’s just the brand and if that’s something you can’t live with don’t purchase it. The sound of the water coming through will mask it after the Vaseline is applied.
The other notable issue is the suction control. It is just the bottom of the intake pipe sliding across the hole. The issue is it sticks sometimes or catches as you adjust. If they were to create some kind of rubber gasket or boot that would help it slide better than plastic on plastic this would greatly improve the suction as well as the movement.
Pros: Easy to maintain Affordable Media Easy Setup and Maintenance Accepts Various Media Good GPH for all sizes of tanks Cons: Noisy (until Vaseline applied) The suction selection could be better developed.
Overall, I gave this 3 stars because the design can be improved to alleviate a lot of the issues. But it is a functioning power head/filter that does work. It has the water clean and crystal clear in about an hour after setup.
It is a good power head/filter but could be better!.
I have 2 of these Aquaclear 30 filters on an overstocked 20 gallon long. I set them on the lowest flow setting and they keep my tank perfect. One is an older version from when it still had Fluval name on the top, and a newer one after Hagen name replaced Fluval.
You can tell the plastic quality is not as nice now, compared to what it was, and also the top piece vibrates when it didn’t on the old filter. Not a big deal though. I’m guessing it is due to the cheaper quality plastic now being used.
The design stayed the same though, and the filter functions great. Easy to clean, easy to maintain, and seems to be dependable. I’ve read some complaints about these filters not restarting after a power outage but I’ve not had that problem.
As long as you have the proper water height in your tank and you keep the filter parts clean and clear of gunk it seems to start right up every time.
When I first decided to buy my red eared slider (turtle) a pet store set me up with supplies along with a filter. I’ve had the other filter for about a year and it just wasn’t doing the job. My water was constantly murky, even when I cleaned the tank once a week along with the filter! I was tired of seeing my turtle living in this condition and started researching for a new filter.
Some reviews under this filter on this website or other say, “it came broken”, “missing pieces” or “don’t buy, didn’t work”. That was not the case for me. The filter came with everything, including one back up intake in case it broke! After only 12 hours of the filter running, my tank has NEVER been so CLEAR! This filter is definitely a must.
I don’t usually write reviews, but after seeing the progress it’s done to my tank along with how happy my turtle is I couldn’t resist. I would 100% recommended this filter!.

I was impressed by all media for this filter. I especially use the ammonia relief inserts. They take cleaning to another level for my Discus tank. Along with the charcoal, sponge and polishing pads. Plus a prefilter sponge.
Sounds like overkill but we have some water issues here. Fabulous outcome.
I use these in a Marineland Penguin 200 HOB filter rather than their intended application. They fit into the reservoir snugly with no cutting or shaping, and they work great for biological and mechanical filtration.
During water changes I pull them out of the filter, squeeze them a few times in siphoned-off aquarium water, and replace. Some gunk comes out but they always clear out nicely and let plenty of water through after cleaning.
I use Aqua Clear sponges in all my filters including brands not made by Aqua Clears. You can find a size that will fit many other brands replaceable pricey cartridges if you do a little research on youtube.
Aqua Clear sponges work great and will save you money because they can be washed in tank water and reused multiple times before they need to be replaced. You will save money and your Aquarium family will appreciate it!.

So I don’t have the aquaclear 20, but the mini, the predecessor to the 20. This filter is at least 20 years old and still running! All I do is keep the motor clean and maintained, and keep it out of direct sunlight to avoid uv rays damaging the plastic.
It just keeps going. I also have an aquaclear 200 which is the predecessor to the 50 I think, that one is easily just as old if not older and is still running as well. If the new ones are still made like the old ones, these filters last! Aquaclear also has an extensive parts catalog if anything does happen to break.
I’ve never needed parts for these filters though, except a couple o rings I have to order for the motors (they are starting to dry rot from age). Overall great long lasting filter. Will recommend to anyone looking for a good, reliable filter.
Not worth the cost OR the gymnastics you have to perform to get into the canister. Pros: Relatively quiet as long as you have the canister located away from you. Cons: Top locking knobs pop off the canister easily but are practically impossible to pop back on.
Inner layers of the canister are awkward and messy to remove and place back in (locking arms to lift the canisters falls out of place and off way too easily) Despite the fx4 being overkill for my 125 gallon tank that only has 3 juvenile tinfoil barbs and a pleco, it doesn’t keep the tank crystal clear, and I have to dig into the canister almost weekly to change out the polishing pad because any debris in the polishing pad stifles the outflow of water down to a trickle and throws my tank cycle off.
Starting up the canister filter after cleaning the tank and changing even just the cleaning pad jettisons residual particles from the lines into the newly filled tank making it look dirty again. The particles eventually cycle out of the tank but add to the burden on the polishing pad and it’s a never ending cycle.
I’ve been struggling with this canister filter for 7 months thinking it would be a better alternative to hang on the back filters, but find myself wishing I would have just bought two of those for a fraction of the price of this canister filter.
Although Fluval customer service was very timely in responding to my questions, the only real solution they had was to purchase more of their brand liquid products to help with tank clarity (I had already informed them I use Seachem products).
For the price of this unit, and the continued cost of replacement medias internal to the canister itself, if the only solution to get the quality performance I wanted is to purchase even more Fluval products in addition to the unit, it’s a good indicator that the fx4 unit is not all it’s cracked up to be.
I have used fluval filters for Years , They never let Me down , I still have 2 Fluval C-3 filters that are still going strong after 4 years So I just upgraded from a 20 gal tank to a 40 gal tank , the old fluval 207 is just not going to cut it anymore.
, after 2 years of faithful service I needed to upgrade. And the 307 did not disappoint. Strong flow , so much so I had to dial down the flow. But that is the nice thing about Fluval, adjustable flow ! In case anyone is wondering the difference between the 207 and the 307 , obviously one is flow, the other is it has 2x the media capacity , the 407 has 4 instead of 3 baskets.
I highly recommend this filter , if You need help setting it up their are a ton of You tube vids available. This filter is highly customizable with what ever media You like. I get cut to fit rolls of floss and sponges to make my own at a fraction of the premade stuff.
Eheim or Fluval. The neverending debate. I wont settle this question. All I can tell you is the Fluval 407 is very quiet. It is easy to set up (although tubing is a bit stiff). For someone who wants inline co2 I would go for eheim as the tubing is not rippled and you wouldt have to hack your way around to install.
I run it in tank so not an issue for me. It is a powerful filter and very silent. It is in my room on a 90g tank and all I can hear are the hobs running in the living room 20 feet away. Maintenance is easy and for those who might still own a 404, there are many improvements.
The baskets are held by a long stick that goes trouvh them so that they can be removed all at once. The quality of the moving pieces ( in and outake shutoff; tubing holding pins; cover pins) are of better quality even though still plastic.
It is a great quality filter and should last for years.
ULTRAMAX is a technologically advanced canister filter whose design is based on patented solutions that guarantee exceptional comfort of use, perfect water clarity, and optimum water parameters even in the most demanding aquariums.
Thanks to the built-in pre-filter, the time between cartridge cleanings is greatly improved. The fact that the pre-filter is placed inside the lid means that you can replace it without removing the filter from the aquarium cabinet! Perfect for tanks up to 185 gallons.
This is the only filter for an overstocked goldfish tank! It has a HUGE bio media capacity, it has a life-saving pre filter, and it’s the MOST QUIET filter I have ever used! I’ve been keeping fish since I was 7 years old and let me tell you that this filter literally makes less noise than a bubbler! Every time I would go to bed I would get up just to make sure my filter was plugged in! It’s THAT quiet! The company is the best too! I was having some issues with it and they answered back FAST.
Like that hour fast! They were a breeze to work with and now my filter is like new!.
The Ultramax 2000 is a great product. It is very quiet in operation and the pre filter is an amazing concept. It cleans my tank great BUT the spray bar set up is pretty rubbish the pie fitting don’t really fit together that well and it sits far to low in the water.
you have to make some adjustments and retro fit with a better spray or return outlet. Other than that it is a great filter. It come with a lot of materials but I used Biohome Ultimate Filter Media in mine and it works brilliantly.
The media supplied is good compared with other filters and what is provided but it just isn’t as good at providing the biological bacteria and balancing the water as this product.
Best filter I have ever used! I have been running this for a couple weeks now and I have crystal clear water and this thing doesn’t make a sound. Very easy to set up! Great job Aquael! I will be purchasing many more items to fill the tank.

Sorry I hate long reviews but there’s a lot to cover I’ve been running aquariums for over 25 years and have been disgusted with how difficult it is to buy anything without compromising something, they leak, their noisy, they only last a few years it seams.
My real problem is is noisy. This “Quite Flow” is anything but quiet. It has a rattle sound after just a week. I find it strange how every other company has a “quick release” were you just pull up a lever and pull both tubes out at once.
This so called “quick release” involves shutting the valve on each tube and then unscrewing both from the lid. That’s kind of a picky thing, but I was really not expecting to be less easy than my old Rena that I bought 15 years ago.
Next let’s talk about this hype over the back filter type water return. The thing is huge for what it needs to do. Inside is the cartridge filter is a joke, you can see right through it. The lid has no clips or snaps it just literally sets on top, and I can only imagine working on it and knocking that behind the tank.
It is so horribly designed it won’t fit any aquarium with hoods. I have glass hoods on my 55 gal and to add hoses or cords there’s a plastic on the back and you can just Dremel tool it out. Even if I took that off entirely off it still is too big, I would have to move my light forward and cut the glass.
Next, the tray’s have the intake tube running through them that need to be lined up. My old Rena simply flowed water down around the outside of the trays and then back up. I know a lot of filters use this method, these days.
The problem is the carbon comes in those cute little bags. Well when you put the bag in, there of course is no way to arrange arrange that to go around and to get behind the inlet tube, it leaves an area about an inch in wide on the side of the entire tray where there’s nothing.
Water flows through the least resistant place, I would think most of it would just by pass the bag of carbon, Next is the media that they give you. Upon unboxing they have bags of media in the tray’s.
I thought it was strange the order which they were in, upon reading the directions they are telling you completely the wrong way. First or bottom tray, they have the ceramic rings. Then the middle tray has a very thick fine pad, also in that tray comes a small pack of bio balls, that I guess your supposed to put on to of the foam.
WRONG! On top of that the instructions as it comes in the box tells the wrong way too. That you should be using the ceramic rings as the first layer, (bottom tray). NO that’s totally wrong, there should be a course pad followed by a fine pad then the media, then the carbon.
The instructions show 3 different set ups, none of them showing pads at all, and all show the ceramics on the bottom. There’s no course pad that even comes with it. And there’s no finishing pad on top.
I use those on top of the carbon before the lid goes on. They are expecting this back inlet thing with it’s horrid filter to be the finishing pad. If you choose not to use the back filter thingy it comes with nice tinted inlet and outlet tubes, and includes various exits.
It comes with the straight out with the direction plate. We’ll if you decide to use any of the other ones you need to get the one that’s on it off. This is held on with little plastic hooks that go over a lip in the tube.
There is no way to get that apart. I tried until if felt like my finger nails were going to get pulled off. So I got a small screw driver hoping to open at least on side. We’ll it broke right off, leaving one left and if that would break, that exit is useless, it wouldn’t stay on.
I just used the exit from my old filter. Finally there is no way that this flows 200gph. I have a power head right next to the outlet that is 160 and that flows way harder then this. Bottom line, I can’t say don’t buy it.
It seems like any new filter has problems, just make sure you put the media in the right order try to get a course foam for the bottom and please ditch the outlet box and last expect noise.
I really dont like doing reviews but I have to. Havent had a tank in a while so decided to go back into it. Went and purchased everything I needed. Was so excited about getting a tank again. Brought everything home cleaned everything, got tank set up and no fish for couple weeks.
Then I went and got a couple platys to help get the tank ready once I did went and got couple more. I have a 29 gal tank with Aqueon canister Filter 200 this is the worst filter I have ever seen. Suppose to be very quiet, it is not quiet at all, water constantly gushes out of filter.
Granted Aqueon did replace my filter but this one is no better, very noisy, gushing water our of filter. Cleaned the tank about a couple days before I got the new one and it needs it again, just dont feel like its working at all bt Iam havinh to make due.
I’m an employee with Petco and highly recommend this filter. I use it for my 75 gallon, I unfortunately don’t have the output for the water director-setup, but it is commonly used for the Petco tanks.
The spray bar works wonderfully and provides more circulation around the tank, however the lights create a lot of algae along the spray bar. I switched to the water polishing unit setup and it is also working like a charm.
The circulation and filtration run great, it’s a very quiet filter and fits underneath my tank. It came with instructions, fairly simple to setup all three different outputs.
The larger plate sizes reduce the number of plates required The added strength of the UGF plates makes this filter most preferred by saltwater aquarists Size: 8-inch by 16-inch This biological filter has a multi-level plate design.
The larger plate sizes reduce the number of plates required. The added strength of the UGF plates makes this filter most preferred by saltwater aquarist. The molded gravel guards eliminate the possibility of gravel falling down the uplift tube.
Includes Premium Carbon Cartridges, Slim Discard-A-Stones, telescoping ring for uplift tube height adjustment and Lee’s fish-saver elbow. Made of special quality plastic which resists splitting and cracking.
I ordered this undergravel filter because it was the only one I could find that was the right size for a 65 gallon tank. So far, I like the filter. The dimensions were just right and the grates are sturdy and flat.
Multiple options for uplift tube placement. My only complaint is the height of the uplift tubes. With a 65 gallon tank being about 2 feet deep, I think the tubes should be a little taller.
Yes, you should look at hacking your hang on back (HOB) filter to get an increased biological filtration! But Biological filtration that ignores the gravel as a potential medium does not make sense. This ridged system puts gravel to work as a biological filtration medium much better than a flat undergravel system.
Excellent quality, well built. Plant growth is almost guaranteed with this filter system. Nutrients collect in the substrate, thus inducing growth, and healthy bacterial system (clear water) is a nice result of this type of system, all particles are trapped in the root column.
There are a few things to remember when choosing a filter for your 30 gallon fish tank. The size of the filter, the type of filter, and the brand of filter are all important factors to consider. The size of the filter should be based on the size of your tank, and the type of filter should be based on the type of fish you have.
The brand of filter is also important, as different brands have different features and benefits.
