20 Best 3 Woods For Mid Handicappers (2023 Updated)

Purchased a Taylormade SIM Driver from Victoria Park Golf Club, Brisbane, Australia on 28/12/2021 and after hitting about 20 balls, mostly at a driving range, I have noticed that a small dent has appeared on the toe area of the head.

The little use is also down to the fact I have not played a full round of golf since 27/12/2021 due to a shoulder/neck injury. My handicap is 11. 8. I have both an M4 and M5 driver, as well as Mizuno JPX850 and ST190, and have not had any issues like this with any of them.

I have also owned and played the M2 and Jetspeed drivers as well as a Cobra F9, Callaway Razr X, Callaway XR and Mizuno ST180 drivers over a 10 year period with no damage to any of them. I have played the M4 for about last 2+ years, 3-4 times a week as well as driving range use with no issues.

The receipt from Victoria Park Golf Club lists the club as “2nd hand” however, apart from the dent, it is in a 9. 9/10 condition. There are no ball marks on the face and virtually no scratches on the bottom.

Even where the dent is, shows no evidence of any marks or scratches. The club is virtually brand new. I briefly read your Warranty Terms and Conditions, and note that it applies to first end users only.

However, if you inspected the club, you would see that it has clearly not been used much at all, in fact, probably only by me, such is the condition. I also note that toe dents seem common in several Taylormade drivers, for no real apparent reason, so clearly there is an issue with certain Taylormade drivers Can you please consider whether this damage can be considered under Warranty.

The club is now worth very little, if anything, and I have no idea how this dent will affect performance.

First off, I ordered mine 4-PW, with TT DG X-100 (130g) shafts, standard length, loft, & lie angle. I had the swing weight measured and as expected the 4-9 irons are D3, PW is D4. My decision to go with a 130g shaft (vs 120g stock shaft) added 1 swing weight.

They look amazing and feel great. I have now played 10+ rounds with my P770’s. I wanted an opportunity to hit all the shots before writing my review. My standard shot is higher, longer, with less spin.

Good ball striking is rewarded with great feel and sound. Miss-hits no so much. It took me several rounds to see the forgiveness of these irons is in the final result, not the feel. I can still move ball in both directions, but I would agree with other reviewers that some workability is sacrificed for higher longer shots.

My shot dispersion (including distance) has not been issue. Play from the rough is good. The 4 iron has been the biggest surprise. I’m teeing it up with the 4 iron on shorter par 4’s and consistently finding fairways at 225+ yards.

I can definitely attribute my recent lower scores to that aspect alone. Overall, I’m really happy with my purchase.

Ever since TM launch the P790 series I’ve been playing them. I received the 17′ version as soon as they were released and loved them. There were a few negatives in my eyes, the first was feel/sound. They felt very clicky and didn’t have the muted sound I prefer.

Then there was the hot shots that flew an extra 10-15. This became a more common occurrence for me that became hard to predict. Lastly, they were a bit clunky looking from the top. When the P770 was released last year I jumped on the bandwagon to minimize the hot shots and get a more compact look.

I really loved the look of the irons and the more predictable yardages but they spun a lot for me. The 770’s are more traditionally lofted which means I was adding a lot more spin to the ball which didn’t fit well for my game.

When the new P790s launched that looked more like the 770’s I was immediately intrigued. The sound and feel has improved greatly from gen 1 P790’s. When you look down the shaft the topline is a bit more beveled and is much more appealing.

On the sim I’m getting very consistent numbers. My miss tends to be a toe miss and I’m blown away by the carry distances I’m getting with a toe miss. Normally this is a 15+ yard miss and I’m seeing minimal impact.

The new P790 is everything TM is stating it is, forgiving, low spin, distance iron with plenty of height. Don’t sleep on them.

I currently have a XXIO driver and 5 wood-11 series. I purchased a new XXIO-12 3 wood, and it’s by far the best wood in the bag. It lives up to XXIO’s information about hitting the sweet spot much more often.

It truly is an “almost” never miss club, truly remarkable. I would recommend this XXIO “12” series to anyone who is looking to improve their game. As with all XXIO products, ben lazy, and swing easy and let the club work for you!.

I purchased the Stealth Plus 9 degree driver around a month ago from Golf Galaxy and I very happy with the performance up to this point. I have only played about 4 to 5 rounds with my Stealth Plus so far but the results have been great.

Once TaylorMade launched the Stealth lineup I immediately knew I was going to purchase one but I wasn’t sure which one fit my game. I purchased the Callaway XR speed last year and the performance was okay but I wanted to change up and get fitted for the newest technology.

I scheduled a fitting at golf galaxy and went in with the mindset that I was going to get the stealth not the Stealth Plus. Started out by hitting my old driver (Callaway XR speed) and the results were not good lol Very high spin rate (5,000-6,000 range) and drives only carrying around 230-240 at best.

Then I hit the Stealth and Stealth Plus and the results were similar between the two but the Stealth Plus had the advantage for me. Results for Stealth Plus were low spin (2,000-3,000 range) and drives carrying around 260-270.

I had 2 drives over 300 yards! The regular Stealth had around the same data but higher spin resulting in lower yards off the tee. Dispersion was similar between the two as well. All of the data was from the trackman, hitting in a bay but I was very impressed with what I was seeing.

I ended up purchasing the Stealth Plus 9 degree extra stiff shaft. My natural drive shot shape is a cut and sometimes a slice. It took me a while to get down that this driver keeps my shot shape much straighter.

Once I got that down, I am hitting it around 10-15 yards further consistently and I’m able to keep my ball flight lower and straighter. Id highly recommend to get fitted for this driver and bring your old driver so you can compare statistics on the trackman between the two.

Hopefully this is convincing enough to pull the trigger on this beast.

I received my Stealth Tour AD IZ 6 X driver and took it out for a spin the same evening. My previous driver was the SIM2 MAX with the Ventus Blue shaft. One sentence conclusion at the end. Overall, after a night of an intense driving range session, at least right now I’m disappointed, and I wouldn’t recommend this to an average golfer like me.

The rubbery coated material on the face feels cheap. Only after hitting maybe 15 balls, I’ve noticed one of my shots left a mark on my face, shown in the photo. At first, I thought I could clean it off or it would change back to its original shape, but after a day it’s still there and now I permanently don’t have a smooth face after the first day of owning this driver.

The photo does not make it look significant, but in real life, it’s noticeable for anyone who would grab the club to look at the face. Secondly, notice when I said rubbery? Unfortunately, these faces gave me a lot more sidespin than the SIM2 Max.

Makes sense since the face isn’t smooth like the SIM2 material. I’m not the perfect driver off the tee, but what would have been a fade and playable shot with my SIM2 became a complete slice and OB shot with the Stealth.

So in conclusion, the rubbery face coating material feels cheap and gives more sidespin. In terms of sidespins, it’s quite unforgiving. I would not recommend this driver for average golfers like myself looking for forgiveness above the SIM2.

I’m a 20 handicap occasional golfer, intending to play more often, so have been considering an equipment upgrade for a while. Drivers have got expensive! So, it took me a while to summon the courage to splash out on the Stealth HD Driver.

Having previously bought through a pro shop, I was hesitant to go direct, but I had a good idea of what I needed from a loft and shaft point of view so I went online. The chat support was v helpful – and the fact that my previous driver was an R15 TaylorMade helped.

The Stealth HD looks great, feels good in the grip and the head is a sensible size – big enough to instill confidence but not too enormous to draw withering attention from your playing partners. I’m not a good enough golfer to give you chapter and verse on the performance, but I am a bad enough golfer to let you know that this club is extremely FORGIVING!!! My frequent flare to the right has been reined in – a lot.

My mishits have resulted in surprising distance. The performance of the club overall adds confidence when you’re standing on the tee and that has been huge for me. I didn’t get any extra distance over my previous driver with the new Stealth HD, but I have achieved considerably more accuracy – and that has been worth the price of admission.

Recently cracked the face on my gamer, Adams black super hybrid and was looking for a similar more rounded shaped hybrid which is rare. I tried out the Apex, Apex Pro, Sim2, Sim2 Max, G425, Tour Edge C721, and TSi2 hybrids.

Out of the bunch, I liked the G425 and the regular Apex because they are extremely forgiving but was not a fan of their iron-like looks. I was close to purchasing a regular Apex but randomly came across this club and was convinced by all the great reviews.

They weren’t lying! The biggest reason to buy this club is that it sits flat and a touch open making it much harder to hook than any other hybrid I have tried. Even adjustable hybrids often have more weight in the heel or a lot of offset making them hook monsters.

Also for a “pro” hybrid this club is extremely forgiving and has a large enough sweet spot for all handicaps. This club launches high and straight, with a true flight (no ballooning) and has a great muted sound/feel.

The stock KBS shaft is also perfect for this club. It feels very stable and is so well balanced that is it hard to overswing. It should be noted that the shaft lengths are a bit shorter compared to other models out there so you may see a slight decrease in distance compared to your current hybrid.

The Mavrik Pro 3 hybrid is 40″ compared to the Sim2 Max 3 hybrid which is 40. 75″. I prefer the shorter shaft because it fits in better with my iron distances and is a bit easier to control but some people may prefer more distance oriented hybrids.

The Mavrik Pro is like a combination of the regular Apex and the Apex UW but half the price since it is a year older. I purchased my mine with the current 25% discount for $115 in “like-new” condition which is an absolute steal for the performance.

Not sure how this club flew under the radar but I guarantee, you will not be disappointed!.

Previous Driver: Titelist 907 D2 10. 5* Stiff Flex Avg Yardage off tee: 260-280yds Accuracy: Would only hit 4 to 5 fairways per round. New Driver: Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero 9. 0* Stiff Flex (Low Spin Weight Setup) Avg Yardage off Tee from first round played with it: 320-350yds Accuracy: Hit every fairway except one.

(mishit off the heel that still went fairly straight and around 200 yds just off the left edge of the fairway). Prelim statement: Hit the Rogue Irons back in 2016 when I was iron shopping and loved the feel and playability of the irons.

When I heard the Mavrik was the revisitation of the Rogue series I had to try it. Luckily, they had a demo Sub Zero at my local club and I had used it previously before purchasing. After the first round of playing with the demo club I knew I had to get it for my bag.

I purchased a “Like New” condition Sub Zero Driver and 3W from here and upon receiving the clubs they had no imperfections on the club at all. Overall Review: Definitely helped my game off the tee even after the first round played with the Driver.

I hit the ball farther, and straighter (the main reason I “took the plunge”) If you currently own a older driver that is difficult to control off the tee I suggest Taking the Plunge yourself and purchasing this club for your bag.

Haven’t used it enough to see if it will lower my scores any, but with the performance of the first round in the bag and leaving me with yardages into Par 5’s that I had never experienced before with my old Driver, this is certainly going to help me shoot lower scores.

This was my first purchased driver as my previous driver was gifted to me as a set packaged with the 904F 3W, and I have no regrets and feel I made the perfect choice for my game.

Bought this MAX driver and the Epic Speed to compare and test this year. I initially figured the Epic Speed driver would prevail. Wrong. The MAX had a 60g stiff and the SPEED had a 50g stiff. Switched shafts around for various days of testing.

Results were excellent with the MAX and only so-so with the SPEED. Didn’t care for the smaller head on it and was not as high flight nor as forgiving. The MAX felt very good, higher flight and more forgiveness you hit it anywhere on the face virtually it goes straight.

But it felt stiff and a bit hard. After some research online and speaking with a golf shop pro in USA, he recommended putting the IM10 Smoke 70g REGULAR shaft from an Epic Max LS into my MAX driver, a different torque rating of 3.

2 and 73 gram weight. For testing I also bought a 60g regular just to see the comparison. Well, the 60 gram regular was very good, BUT the 70g was incredible! Longest I’ve hit a ball in 25 years and I’m 58 now.

Straight like a laser, this shaft lowered my spin and slightly lower trajectory to optimum so the MAX is now like a 1/2 way combo of the MAX and MAX LS. The spin is close to that of the LS now with trajectory in between the 2 drivers normal flight paths.

This gives me perfect launch and rollout forever. It’s fantastic. Sound and feel incredible and off center hits are straight with minimal yardage loss compared to the MAX LS. This is the best of both worlds in a driver.

Not shopping for a new driver for many years to come. LOVE IT!.

I bought the standard 15 degree 3 wood with regular shaft. I usually hit hybrids for shots over 180 yards from the fairway or rough, so I got this for dogleg left tee shots as it’s easier to draw than my driver.

I took it to the range last weekend and loved the way the ball explodes off the club face. It was also very straight, but I couldn’t really assess the length with range balls. This morning I went to the course very early and played on my own, hitting two tee balls on every par 4 and 5, the first with my driver, the second with this 3 wood.

This thing is HUGE off the tee. I think it must have a draw bias because it is very easy to hit right to left. It has a lower, more boring trajectory than my 10. 5 degree M2 driver (I have no idea why) and is, on average, consistently 20 yards longer because of that.

Early days yet, and I always seem to hit new clubs better the first time I use them (possibly because I am more focused?), but the only reason I can think of to use my driver from now on is it’s easier to fade.

It has a very low profile, so it does play well off the fairway and it goes best when teed low (barely above the ground).

I was looking to add a new 3wood to my golf bag and I started at my first stop location, Dicks Sporting Goods. I have Taylormade clubs, they did not have the club I was looking for, the M6 3Wood. I spoke to the sales representative and we discussed other options, other brands.

I took three off the rack, SIM 3Wood, Callaway XR Speed, and the Titleist TS3. I hit about 10 or 12 balls on the Launch Monitor. I ended up purchasing the Callaway XR Speed, because on a bad hit I was hitting the club 198 yards of carry.

When I crushed it, I was hitting the club 215 yards of carry. The club was on sale and I made the purchase. Great Club, on the course, I am averaging 200 yards off the fairway.

After playing a Taylormade Driver for 20+ years I finally tried something new. TM was the first to have the larger heads, first the 320 CC, then the 360CC and so forth. I purchased several over the years, they really changed the game for new golfers.

The last one I purchased was the Sim. The curved club face just didn’t work for me. I then won a Callaway Driver in pick the pro for the US Open win and chose Rahm, got a Callaway Speed. Pretty good but inconsistent, low ball flight and it had an unimpressive sound.

Then after having some wine I made a low ebay bid on the Tsi2 and won for $260. It took a bit of getting used to, but when you find the sweet spot there is a magical high pitched “ting” and the ball goes forever.

15 yards farther than the Sim and and a bit longer that the Callaway Speed but much more consistent in part to a LARGE sweetspot. My SS can be up to 106 mph but 95-98 is where I can be consistent. With the correct launch angle (15*) and thinking of contact, not crushing the ball, drives are 270 plus.

Overall my favorite driver yet. try it, you will be glad you did.

First, get properly fitted; thank you PGA Superstore Lawrenceville. I would buy this club just based on the sound of the ball coming off the face, but add in the extra club head speed due to the engine of the club (Tensei light-weight shaft) that translates into extra distance, along with the Sure-Fit hosel and CG track technology that allows you to tune this club in, and the stylish traditional look; and you have a beast that has everyone in you group saying WOW when you hit it.

Did I mention that I’ve never heard a better sounding club, hard to describe, but it’s very solid and powerful, it will turn heads. I would find a way to make this club work just based on the sound, but I didn’t have to thanks again to the folks at PGA Superstore (get a Studio Fitting).

With this club dialed in, I gained 4-6 MPH club-head speed and increased my distance by +18 yards compared to my 915 D3. I attribute my handicap going from a 7. 9 to 6. 4 in just over a month to this club.

I listed faster club speed as a con, in that you will need to adjust your swing for the increased speed that you will generate, a very little inconvenience considering the benefits you’ll derive (hitting wedges into the green versus short to mid irons).

Highly recommend this club (properly fitted) to any golf enthusiast that wants to improve their game.

I purchased the TSi1 driver with the light shaft (40g), regular flex. The club was to upgrade from my Cobra offset driver. Due to a tendency to produce a fade or mild slice, I have been using various editions of the Cobra offset driver for years.

After getting older (67) I was getting fed up with losing so much distance off the tee to my playing partners so decided to check out some new products that were appropriate for my age and could be adjusted for my swing.

I tested the Callaway Epic, Taylormade Sim 2, and the Titleist TSi1 driver on the range at Heron Glen Golf Course in Flemington NJ. I quickly dismissed the Epic, and concentrated on the other two clubs.

It was a close choice to be fair but the Titleist produced the straight, repeatable shot I wanted so I opted for the TSi1 which was set up with the hosel settings set to D3. I played my first round with it yesterday, and I am ecstatic about this club.

It produced predictable solid drives all day which were on average at least 20 yards further than I was used to hitting the ball. This resulted in using shorter clubs into greens which as expected resulted in better scores.

I LOVE this Titleist driver and would highly recommend it to anyone who is now a senior, has always fought a slice, and is looking for more distance. I will be returning for a fairway wood and some hybrids as soon as I have the money!.

Purchased a new 22 degree 410 and a near new 19 degree 410 from Global golf to replace my G25s. The new and old were both bought with regular flex stock shafts. My G25s were extremely reliable, easy to play and very accurate.

I also still play Ping irons with regular flex shafts 1. 5 degree upright that are extremely accurate. It’s seems that no matter what I do the 410s want to move to the right. I have increased the loft to the small plus symbol and I get minor help.

I am thinking the shafts are two flexible or the lie angle is two flat. The 19 degree Hybrid seems much more prone to go right. If I move the setting to flat they slice very hard to the right which is why I think the standard setting is too flat for me.

Do Any Ping Techs out there have a suggestion for me?.

Got the first round with my G410 Plus (9 degree stiff shaft Alta 55) under my belt and I can see what the hype is all about with the Ping drivers. The good drives right in the sweet spot with any modern driver will all be good, but it’s the ones where I was hitting slightly off the toe or heel where the G410 showed it’s prowess.

Wasn’t losing very much distance (10-15 yards at most) and the ball was still very much in play (first cut of rough, or bunkers, no snap hooks or wild slices). Even with the shaft trimmed down to 44.

50 inches, I was comfortably outdriving my playing partner, who plays a Big Bertha 621 by 15-20 yards and definitely hitting more fairways. I think it got him thinking about moving over to Ping. Small sample, but a great driver so far that probably shaved 4 to 5 strokes off my round.
