i wish i read reviews before buying. this over range microwave definately will cause some type of dunctioning issue after the 1 yeat warranty is up. mine no. longer even powers on after 15 months. my cheap $60 work microwave held up longer than the one that cost me a few hundred.
customer service will trouble shoot by saying fix it on your own dollar. seems to me as if samsung no longer is a quality brand. my samsung washer i purchased has had quiye a few recalls including its balancing issue and the bleach dispenser never worked after the first year.
my samsung tv i had stooped working after three years. does anyone see a pattern here? lesson finally learned. i will no longer be supporting this brand and will encourage others not to as well.
This review is by no means directed at Best Buy-they only carry it. We just re did our kitchen and have what I guess are deeper then normal upper cabinets. This over the range microwave that is meant to go between cabinets barely opens! The hinges open outwards which means it actually needs 3/4 of an inch spacer beside it to open properly.
When you open the door it hits the cabinet beside it. How in 2023 a microwave can’t be made with zero clearance hinges like almost all cabinets I don’t know. I ended up using a 2×4 as a spacer at the back to push it out more and can open it halfway now.
I’d have to put a four inch spacer at the back to let it open properly which means the microwave would stick out 3 inches past my cabinets. Absolutely brutal. Buyer beware.
I purchased the Samsung microwave as on open box since it was in stock and a regular new one was not available for a few weeks. Sadly the microwave had an issue with the fan motor and light staying on when the door was closed.
I had to have a technician come out to fix it. He said it was non-repairable. and recommended I take it down and bring it back for a new one. The hinges were bent which I can’t image wouldn’t have been found during a quality control check.
He straighten the hinges out as much as possible but I will have to have someone remove the microwave so I can return it and then have someone reinstall the new microwave. The microwave overall is average but I will certainly think twice before purchasing an open-box product.

The interior features LED lighting that stays on while your dish cooks. And the Cooktop LED Lighting offers a clear, bright view of your cooktop for meal preparation. Over-the-range microwave doubles as a hood offering ventilation with two fan speeds.
My former Frigidaire Gallery microwave performed well and was fully functional for 11 years. Although I was not completely pleased with the previous units functionality, I decided to stay brand loyal due to the length of performance and that a newer unit would continue to match up nicely to the Gallery Stove I also own.
Being the same series although newer, mounting was expected to be a fairly straightforward swap… boy was I wrong! Why in the world would you change the mounting brackets, the position of the bracket ,and the bolt position? How many holes do you think one cabinet can accommodate over the years? Taking into consideration that these units typically only last 7-10 years, and back splashes are tiled right up to the bottom of the unit, you are simply creating unnecessary work for the Customer.
The only reasonable explanation is that changing the hardware requires the average person to have to spend an additional $200 to to have an installer hired directly from the “merchants professionals” I got it in despite the added aggravation and the hours of additional work modifying the tiles because you also opted to change the height of the unit just enough to cause trouble… but having experienced this, I now know to look to other brands since loyalty does not go both ways.
Come on folks, over the range microwaves have been around forever, at least standardize your own brand! If it’s going to be a giant pain to install a replacement of the same brand then it’s easy to simply move away from Frigidaire.
How is the new unit? Doesn’t really matter at this point, every time I look at it I’ll be reminded of how the manufacturer didn’t care at all as to how the changes would impact the loyal consumer, and since your name is stamped right there in the front it will be hard to forget.
Re: FGMV17WNVF All the microwaves I researched had various weaknesses so I chose based on my simple needs. I was willing to pay more than a basic model (and this one was really not much more) and I wanted something that looked good, had excellent task lighting below and had a decent reputation for lasting a while with few problems.
I’ve had this one only a month but so far so good. Lighting underneath is the best of the bunch, two bright led zones on either side and inside is decent. This microwave takes slightly longer to reheat than others of same wattage, I don’t care since an extra minute in my kitchen life is not crucial.
Buttons are not intuitive but learnable, for example just press a number briefly, let go and then wait and it heats that many minutes, press “start” for a moment and it heats or adds an additional 30 seconds etc.
One weakness I read about applies to the handle potentially delaminating with a heat source below so I will try to be aware of that and extra careful. Another issue I read indicates this model is particularly sensitive to being opened during a cycle instead of letting it finish or by not pressing “stop” and then potentially blowing an internal or house fuse over time.
I’ve instructed the family to be mindful and try to avoid that which should never be done anyway with any microwave. Clock light is bright and alert sounds are loud as others say, but doesn’t bother me.
I use it as a recirculating fan instead of venting outside which obviously would be better. If you recirculate no model does a very good job no matter how loud or strong in my opinion. I can live with it and just open windows.
When looking for a replacement microwave the reviews were generally you hated it or loved it. This model had 75% favorable rating which was better than most. It would have been extremely helpful if it were plugged in when you visit the showroom.
I could have seen if the lights were bright enough and listened to the fan noise. I just had to go with the other reviews for these fairly important details. I selected this model because the model below it only had one light for the cooktop.
The led lights are brilliant white on this model. The light inside the microwave is quite bright, very easy to see what is going on inside. Two lights underneath really light up the cooktop. The clock is also a very bright white.
All of the special feature and number touch pads are white and clearly marked. What isn’t marked very well are the STOP, Fan and Light pads. If the kitchen is the least bit dark, they are very hard to find.
STOP pad is red and just not that visible. The Fan and Light pads are symbols that aren’t clearly visible, a fan blade and a light bulb. The exhaust fan has 2 speeds and fairly quiet, much quieter than on our old microwave.
The fan apparently only runs when you turn it on. It does not come on when you press the Start pad to begin cooking/heating something. Microwave has 2 filters underneath and 1 filter as the air exits on top.
The “buzzer” is also on the quiet side. Instructions claim volume is adjustable but all I could get it to do is buzz/beep longer, not louder. With the turntable on and working, cooked food still has hot spots as did old microwave.
Your GE 1. 6 cu. ft. Over the Range Microwave Oven has convenient cooking controls to make operating quick and easy. The Express Cook feature allows you, with one touch, to set cooking times from 1 to 6 minutes.
The glass turntable, with on/off capability, lets you use various size cookware. Defrosting times and power levels are programmed automatically or manually for optimal results. Color: Beige/Bisque.
Have just replaced and installed a GE model JNM3161DF2BB 1. 6 cu foot microwave oven with the newer, same size, GE model JVM3160DF8BB. The prior GE microwave lasted only 7 years before it continually started tripping the circuit breaker and eventually blowing some internal circuitry with a puffed sound and a lasting burnt smell.
Nor was this without issues over the years. The top grille cracked long ago. The door handle had broken twice and instead of replacing the expensive door or handle unit required by GE, was able to epoxy the handle back in place both times.
Unfortunately, it seems that the new appliance will suffer from door problems as well. The door feels very light and is a bit flimsier than the prior microwave’s door. There are also numerous customer reports of the door handle breaking, having to replace the door, and undergo the complex door replacement procedure on this newer JVM3160 model.
This model does make a clunking noise each time it starts and stops and when the door operates. Likewise, there are many current reports of circuits tripping and internal fuses blowing on the newer JVM3160 model.
I had decided to buy this newer very similar 1. 6 cu foot GE model, with identical dimensions, with hopes that it would mount with the same wall mounting plate and existing drilled overhead openings for the cabinet bolts and power cable as the prior appliance.
However, not surprisingly, GE decided to change all that. The mounting plate and mounting holes have been redesigned so, after having to remove the old mounting assembly and hardware, it was basically a new install with new holes in the wall and upper cabinet.
Also GE has done away with the upper cabinet middle bolt which used to screw down into the unit. The current mounting will hold, although not as securely, and with a slight gap, as there are only two bolts, one on either end.
Even the top-mounting bolts which were sent with this unit were changed. They are round-head, unlike the picture in the Installation Instructions, so do not sit flush with the inside cabinet surface.
The old bolts were flat. It seems that, most often being the case, a company must always redesign an updated product with changes, even if those changes are detrimental and not as good as the features on the prior model.
Obviously they are detracting on safety and features, at the expense of the customer. This review is echoing many of the same problems listed in reviews by other purchasers of this same GE JVM3160DF8BB microwave.
An even bigger issue is a glaring engineering bug, or product design flaw, in the venting grill which is located above the charcoal filter on the top of the unit. The prior model’s grille had slats with small openings which were more than adequate for providing plenty of recirculated venting.
However regardless of the type of venting used, whether outside top, outside back, or recirculating, everyone’s microwave will now have the same inadequate top grille. There are five large openings in the new grille which would easily allow things to fall inside the microwave.
Three of these gaping holes measure 3-3/4″ by 1″. One reviewer mentioned that he even had to tape over these large openings. I am not doing that on my appliance but I am concerned and have called GE Engineering on this issue.
After six weeks, have not heard back. So much for customer support. This design change is potentially damaging to the microwave itself. No doubt people who own this model may not be able to avoid getting debris and objects inside the microwave which could create issues and detract from the life of the appliance.
I see no purpose other than being detrimental to have exposed the top surface of the microwave to these large openings. So what is good about the GE JVM3160DF8BB microwave? Well, for now it is working and it is an attractive appliance above the GE stove.
Purchased this new JVM3160RF8SS as replacement for an existing JVM3160RF5SS purchased about 4 1/2 years ago that failed in service. Was hoping that the installation task would be to simply remove the existing microwave and hang the new one on the existing wall brackets utilizing the same holes drilled in the kitchen cabinet above.
It was necessary to instead use a completely different wall bracket provided with the new microwave and drill all new holes in the kitchen cabinet above. A quick swap out turned out to require the same work effort as a first time install.
I was disappointed with the short 4 1/2 year service life provided by the existing GE microwave. Replacement of failed microwave door micro switches only extended the unit life for a couple of months.
It was decided to replace the existing microwave with a new one as continued repair was no longer cost effective. Otherwise the features, performance and appearance of the JVM3160RFSS are great for the price paid.
Looked at some competing microwave models that had a much more solid feel but also had considerably higher pricing. Hoping this revision JVM3160RFSS lasts considerably longer than 4 1/2 years.
I purchased this after my first one stopped working. I replaced my JVM3160DF4WW with a newer JVM3160DF5WW. I got the same model because it was in stock at the store, I could use the same wall mounts and cutouts, and I liked the features.
The older one had a sleeker door handle but it broke off after a year and I had to epoxy it together (a replacement handle was far too expensive to order). The new one has a more basic handle that may be sturdier.
However, the real problem came after 2 1/2 years when it would short (i. e. throw the breaker) if the door was opened before cooking finished to interrupt it. Eventually it wouldn’t power on after resetting the breaker.
With some web help and YouTube videos I saw how to diagnose the problem— it was a bad door switch on the control panel which replaced with a $5 part ordered online. That partially fixed things so that we could use the oven as long as we remembered to cancel the cook time rather than open the door while it was still going.
After a half dozen times over several months in which we accidentally opened the door before the end it shorted out completely so that it wouldn’t start after resetting the breaker. I will answer NO to whether I would recommend this product—but my real answer is MAYBE.
It depends on whether GE was aware of this issue and done anything different regarding electrical shorting when opening the door during operation.
I’ll preface this with the fact that I love to cook from scratch and am not typically a huge microwave user. That being said, there are features of this microwave that outperform any previous microwave I have owned and some that are now welcome additions to my cooking routine.
You can’t beat the extended vent hood. Wonderful power and does it’s job extremely well. On this installation, I have it self-venting and the inclusion of the charcoal filter is a wonderful plus. Clean up of the inside of the microwave is also much easier than in previous ones I have owned.
I love some of the various preparation features this microwave has as well. They actually perform like one has always wanted, but never experienced in the past. The Melt, Soften, and Defrost functions with their pre-programmed food types are genius.
I took a fully frozen loaf of a good, crusty, French bread and defrosted it utilizing the “Bread” defrost setting and ended up with a not hot, still crusty exterior, fully defrosted interior, loaf — just as if I had left it out on the counter for a couple of hours to defrost on its own.
Not something I was ever able to do with a microwave in the past. On the poultry setting, the chicken defrosts properly and doesn’t start to cook. The reheat by option is also stellar compared to other microwaves.
My “cooking” in this microwave has been limited to steaming some vegetables, heating a cup of tea and crisping up pre-cooked bacon all of which were as good if not better than previous microwaves I have owned.
Overall, this oven has substantial power and offers the kind of options that a microwave is best suited for — and they work! I don’t think that there is a better one on the market at any price and I’ve owned the gamut of them.
This OTR LG Microwave is huge, compared to the brand that was previously installed. Microwave cooking options do function as expected and heating/warming time seems to be normal. Over the range lighting is very bright, but wish they had a third setting for a night light.
Suggestions are that the Touch Display should be backlit as the touch controls as part of the display are very difficult to see without ambient room light. The interior light inside microwave is not bright enough by a long shot – LG please sell as a replacement a brighter bulb replacement option.
The observation window in the door is small and positioned much too high for any normal height person (5’8″) to see into microwave to observe the food cooking – an ergonomics fault in their design. Soooooooo, here’s the biggie for anyone experiencing problems with the LG microwave’s extendavent exhaust venting externally upwards to the outside.
After all, the extendavent feature was the selling point for us and initially the external venting was not working to our satisfaction. When the LG unit was installed for us, they readily reused the existing ductwork to the outside for exhaust venting.
When we turned on the exhaust fan, the OTR exhaust fan was extremely loud at any setting, including at Low. We also had little to no updraft from any of the four exhaust vent locations as steam from a boiling pot was hardly diverted.
I tested with tissue paper, and the tissue paper barely was sucked up to the rear two vents and the tissue paper would NOT STICK AT ALL to the two front vents when the extendavent was extended outward.
During a followup visit by the install team lowering the microwave unit to diagnose the problem, they discovered that the adaptor plate’s metal flap was stuck virtually closed as the flap was being held down by a little tab bump feature built into the microwave’s metal adaptor plate (preventing the plate’s metal flap from lifting up).
After finding this, they reinstalled the LG microwave and Voila – happy customer again. The previous extreme loud noise of the exhaust fan was instantly gone, and we could now finally distinguish (by sound level) the difference between low, high and turbo.
We now had great updraft on the microwave’s four vent locations and even the two extendavent front vents had very strong suction – tissue paper test now easily stuck to all four microwave vent locations even on the Low setting.
Final observation, the exterior duct flapper door located at the outside wall where the air exits the wall was now pushed wide open by the exhaust air pressure, vs the external wall flapper door hardly being open when the microwave’s metal adaptor plate flap was hung up.
Only reason that I’m giving all this laborious detail is that many customer reviews across many retail sites have complaints about weak to nonexistent external exhaust on this LG extendavent model, as well as extremely loud fan noise even on the Low setting.
You may be living with an adaptor plate on top of microwave in a stuck closed position by the tab or hung up by your interfaced house ductwork. By making sure that the metal adaptor plate located on top of the microwave is free to move once tightly interfaced to your ductwork and functioning properly, it may fix your venting and fan noise problems.
As a range hood, this thing is pretty great. We had a whirlpool gold builder-grade OTR, that collected maybe 40% of the cooking fumes. This OTR collects 80% of the fumes with the same rated air flow.
I’m asian, and I cook alot of stir fry, and we tend to use high-heat and on the front burners, and the extendavent has significantly improved fume capture. The microwave is pretty solid. Works well, and the all-glass face was an upgrade for us.
One nitpick is that you have to remove your finger to register 2 presses, so hitting the +30 second button 6 times to get to 3 mins is a bit more of a chore. The 1 less start is because the extend-a-vent build quality is not what I would expect for the price.
When it extends, it works well, but it feels cheap, and is mostly plastic. It doesn’t extend firmly into place, and kinda needs to be pulled the last 1/4″. Out of the box the materials felt thin and too light.
I can see how alot of these get damaged during installation and delivery. Once it’s installed, everything feels solid except for the extend-a-vent, which needs a better track and stronger springs. We are about 2 months into using this OTR, so time will tell how reliable it is.

Quickly add cooking time with the add-30-seconds function. This GE full-size microwave oven has a 12. 5″ turntable that has on/off control for even heating. 1000W of power. Electronic touch controls.
This was installed on Oct. 7, 2021 and after the installer left, I tried the microwave and noticed the light when you opened the door was delayed, and when closing the door, you would see a flash of light.
Within a few days, the light did not come on at all !! Made an appointment for a technician to come and check it out. I could not get an appointment for about 3 weeks. During that time I was using the microwave.
I put food in to cook and forgot to put another item in there so I opened the door. To my surprise, the microwave continued to run and the clock was counting down !!!!! NOT GOOD ! Once the technician arrived, I had a list of things to tell him !!! To make a long story short, I needed a CONTROL BOARD, and a Door Switch !!!!! THE MACHINE IS NOT EVEN A MONTH OLD !!! Now I’m told the parts are on back order and the projected ship date is DEC.
26 !!!!! The tech was here on Nov 4th !!! This is completely unacceptable ! To top it off, when I ordered this, the picture of this machine on the salesman’s computer showed a green display which is what I was looking for, to my dismay, after installation when they plugged it in.
a WHITE DISPLAY !! I was not happy, plus when the surface light is on, the floor of the microwave gets hot !! Beside the fact I think this particular machine is a LEMON, and it should be replaced, all these other disappointments just added to my frustration !! Wish my old Whirlpool that lasted 25 years didn’t die !!!!! One thing is does well is heat the food !!.
First off, I will say I love this microwave. Very good quality, cooks nicely, easy to use. My only complaint and it is a small one is the inability to set the weight default on the defroster in kilograms.
Just using the kilograms makes it easier because I don’t have to convert ounces into 1/10th pounds. If I’m going to defrost something I can put it on the scale and if it says 500g I could have entered.
5 kg. However since these unit does not allow me to change that unit of measurement and the weight ends up being 1 lb 4oz I have to do a conversion to make 4 oz into a 10th of a pound. So yeah, this is my only complaint since I know how much easier the metric scale is.
That being said even when I do enter the correct weight of the product after the defrost cycle has finished it’s usually still halfway frozen. So I have to throw it in for additional time which defeats the whole into the product wait to begin with.
Otherwise, this is an excellent microwave that any other person wouldn’t find that fault there’s not many people in America use the metric system unless they’ve taken engineering classes or more advanced math classes.
We purchased this to replace a Kenmore microwave. This new microwave appears to work well, so far. All the features are what I would expect in a basic microwave. A few complaints: 1) when in use, it’s very loud.
Also, it the vent function is loud; 2) the handle mechanism feels clunky and makes a lot of noise opening/closing; and 3) the display is very bright, so it creates a lot of ambient light at night.
Efficient and Convenient The GE Profile Series over-the-range microwave combines convection and microwave cooking to deliver fast oven-quality results. Sensor cooking controls automatically adjust cook time and power and a convection rack helps circulate air for golden brown results.
A removable full-width cooking rack lets you cook multiple foods at the same time. Chef Connect syncs clocks and the range elements with the microwave’s surface light and vent for instant convenience.
The only reviews that really matter are the long term ones. Of course things are nice at first and everyone gives 4 stars+. Im guilty of that too. The truth is. So after about a year of use. Cons: 1.
GEs major appliances have 2-3 yrs warranty. Unfortunately microwaves, even convection ones only have 1 year. 2. The front panel has no light, so things like popping corn at night is a hassle. Wish the buttons were illuminated.
3. It failed twice, once in under a year covered under warranty for a bad sensor. And the second time just past a year, not under warranty. 4. It takes about a month to get service. A few weeks to schedule a day to just look at it, and another few weeks to order the part and actually fix it.
Currently the microwave does not power on and I’m hoping it was bad work recently done by GE for the previous repair. I think GE should do full warranty for a year plus pro-rate for maybe 2-3 years. At $700 it is a huge loss for this microwave in about a years time.
All in all, I will be staying away from GE microwaves simply because the warranty period is way too short, which usually means they expect failures in a relatively short time.
We wanted to share the fact that there was a minor confusion in the model number of the delivered product to the BestBuy and GE team. We ordered the GE microwave model number “PVM9179SKSS” from Bestbuy online portal.
We got delivered the GE microwave model “PVM9179SK5SS”. There is a subtle difference in the model number. The model number “PVM9179SKSS” has the description that interior of microwave is Enamel based on the Bestbuy website.
The model number “PVM9179SK5SS” that got delivered to us has interior Stainless Steel. Also, we cannot search the model “PVM9179SK5SS” number online, as there are no results found for that. We wanted to know if the model “PVM9179SK5SS” is a stable model, and if there is any reasons that the model “PVM9179SK5SS” was not found in any public internet searches (like new, or discontinued, or recalled, etc) ? Appreciate you clarification.
GE offers a 30″ wide over-the-range sensor microwave oven with a 1. 7 cu ft capacity. This black appliance features an “Add 30 seconds” button and an upfront charcoal filter with indicator lights. The microwave also provides a weight and time defrost option where the oven automatically sets the optimal defrost time and power level depending on the weight of the food.
Purchased to replace an older unit that started to malfunction. This newer, higher-priced unit works well. I have not spent much time with the sensor features, but I have used it for warming many things using timed cooks and it heats well.
On top of being used as a microwave, there are two other features that are requirements of over-the-stove models: fan and light. I must say, the fan on this unit is much better than the older one. I’m not sure what effect the internal carbon filter is meant to have on air pulled through it, but I like the fact that it’s filtered through something other than the metal mesh.
Also, the fan, like our previous model, has two settings: high and low. On the previous model, I would describe them as high. and slightly less high. This one has a much more distinctive flow between high and low (thanks for that).
Now let’s talk about the light: again it has high and low. The old unit seemed to work well in this regard. I did have to replace the bulbs once over the life of that unit, and I always wanted low to be a bit brighter, and high to be substantially brighter.
This newer unit delivers a bit more brightness with high and a lot less with low. Low, in fact, doesn’t seem particularly useful to me. But maybe that will change when I buy a new stove that doesn’t have a black top.
The light on this new one does have this strange behavior when it switches from high to low: it toggles itself off briefly. This is something the old unit didn’t do. The first time I tried to use the light, I actually thought there was something wrong with it because of the “off” period between high and low (only lasts half a second or so).
It’s not a deal-breaker but definitely strange. The biggest gripe I have which is what I’m removing 2 stars for is noise. This unit, despite being over 10 years newer and several models higher in tier than our older unit, is substantially louder in operation.
I would have thought that buying a more expensive model meant you get less noise (this has been true for other appliances I purchased, like dishwasher, generator, etc), but not for this microwave.
So far, the microwave works as advertised. But. We got the fingerprint-resistant stainless steel version, and while the metal fascia is indeed fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, the metal-look applique on the handle, the part you actually touch, is not fingerprint-resistant.
It’s a bit like saying you have a rain-proof home. except for the roof. The control buttons are SUPER hard to press, and the “hitbox” (video gamers will know what I’m talking about) is tiny, meaning that nearly every button press actually takes 2-3 presses to activate it.
The door sounds super hollow and it’s tensioned door latch springs reverberate in the unit after the door is closed. The light is a super-warm-colored halogen with “fine” brightness. Why isn’t it LED in 2023? And the type of bulb means LED replacements are tricky to find.
They were super easy on my 13-year-old GE microwave which used small screw-in bulbs. While the fan is quieter than my 13-year-old model (this new one’s “HIGH” setting is as loud as my old one’s “LOW” setting, it’s still quite loud.
For the filter that’s supposed to be replaced every 6 months, it’s a pain that you have to use a screwdriver to remove a panel to access the filter. This should be toolless. I get that it saves money that the metal mounting bracket just has the horizontal bar and not the two vertical side bars, but those vertical bars from my old microwave mount made installation so much easier than on this new microwave.
We replaced a home-builder-supplied GE microwave with this one, when the fan started to act up. It looks very good with the stainless steel front and no handle. We don’t miss having a handle and like the big LED clock on the front.
The control panel is on the main door which looks nice but could cause issues down the road as the cables for that are visible inside, near the hinges. We’ll have to keep an eye on that one. The microwave itself is super-quiet when it is running.
I have to check it is even cooking, it is that quiet. The vent fan though is loud enough on the lowest setting that you definitely are aware it is running. I have not tried the fan on any other settings, other than toggling through them to turn it off.
They seem very loud so still we stick with the low setting and it seems adequate for most uses. The reheat function is very good but the defrost function seemed to overcook the chicken I tried. The timer is nice as it beeps loud enough to notice but not in an obnoxious way.
You do need to go over and turn it off though or it will just go on and on. The interior is easy to keep clean and so far, has not got too messy. I notice some grease between the door and the microwave frame but if we wipe this over regularly, it should not get to messy.
We are very pleased with this microwave so far and other than the noisy fan settings, it is excellent.

Microwave itself seems to be good and easy to use with a pretty good price for an over the range microwave. The recirculation mode blows the air up instead of out and the screws to access the filter are farther back than the vents so it will need to stick out about an inch or two from the front of your cabinets to use recirculation.
Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten a chance to try how much suction it gets because it wasn’t until I installed it that I figured out that there was a plate missing (along with several other parts, it was purchased excellent condition open box so it should have had all the parts) that covers the hole used to rotate the fan so despite blowing out the top strongly there was no suction.
I remedied this with foil tape and then using a lighter to check, there did seem to be suction but now I need to figure out a new way to mount it since one of the mounting brackets broke since I had to use my own bolts to replace the missing bolts.
(Also, the wrong template was packed with the microwave so now I have random holes in the bottom of my cabinet). Overall, the only complaint about the microwave itself that I have is the vent location and the location of the screws to change the filter.
Bought this microwave June 2021. Then, around February 2022 (7 months), when we close the door, the microwave starts running intermittently on its own. Pressing the buttons like STOP won’t work. Unplugging it is the only solution to reset it.
Also, the door handle is starting to fall off on the bottom. Called Best Buy to start a warranty claim but since it was more than a half a year ago since I purchased it, they couldn’t process it. So I called Samsung who sent over a repair guy.
He replaced a part or two but the problem persisted and he was able to still replicate the problem. He also said my door needed to be replaced but did not have that part. Samsung is promising to refund the cost but what a pain.
Now I have to purchase another microwave and install it. What is funny is that a friend of mine who worked at an appliance store told us, “Do not but Samsung appliances”.
I’ve had this microwave for over a year, it heats up food quickly and looks great. Downside, it starts by itself or stops in the middle of running. It seems to be an issue with the door connection. The forums I’ve read state that the connections need to be cleaned, which I’ve done several times, but doesn’t usually make a difference.
Instead, pushing the door up or down will stop it from running, or make it start again if it stopped running. The warranty period is one year, which is about the time I started having issues with it starting by itself.

Big bowls and large casserole dishes are no problem for our extra-large glass turntable. It rotates for even cooking.
We Have had a technician come out multiple times in the 10 months that we have owned this appliance. We had an issue with the microwave THE FIRST WEEKEND we owned. We normally wouldn’t have purchased this brand but it came with our new build.
The first issue was that when we closed the microwave door the light would stay on and the turntable would spin. You couldn’t use the microwave at all because it wouldn’t work properly. We had to unplug it and then plug it back in.
Then it would work for a little bit and stop working again. They had to replace the control panel but the first panel they ordered was defective so then we had to wait for another one to come in. Now we our handle is broken and the door is cracked.
We’ve been waiting for over 2 months for a replacement door to come in. The customer service rep says they won’t replace the microwave because it is repairable. This is absolutely ridiculous for an appliance that is less than a year old.
I purchased this microwave to replace a 10 year old Kenmore. It needed to be white and a specific size to fit because of the tile backsplash. Fortunately it fit and was not too difficult to install. The pluses for this microwave are the following: the door has a straight entry versus curved hooks like most microwaves have and it is spacious.
The negatives are: the logo is very big on the front door, and the coding for the special buttons is not intuitive. You have to read the instructions that are on the door frame to figure out the coding.
Also the melt/soften for butter will not soften butter, it melts it completely. So that is disappointing. It is a good microwave, but if I did not need a white microwave and a very specific size, I probably would not have purchased it.
My new Frigidaire microwave has worked fantastic so far and it looks great in the kitchen. It doesn’t have any “cool” features, just your basic options like popcorn which is totally fine and what I was looking for.
I would absolutely recommend this microwave to anyone who wants something basic and looks great. The only minor complaint I have is that the door doesn’t line up exactly with the rest of the microwave when it’s closed which is a little bothersome for someone who is OCD like myself.
However, this seems to be consistent across all standard Frigidaire microwaves as I have looked several different one. Don’t get me wrong, it is off by a very small margin and most people would never notice it, but unfortunately, I’m one of those who does notice.
Again, not a big issue and most importantly, it works great.
Cooking will be a child’s play with the LG LMV2031ST 2. 0 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven. It features sensor cooking ability that makes your task easy by automatically adjusting the temperature and time, depending on the dish.
Interior (WxHxD): 21 3/4″ x 10 5/8″ x 14 5/8″. Exterior (WxHxD): 29 15/16″ x 16 7/16″ x 15 7/8″.
Disappointed. I really really really liked this microwave, until now. Bought in May of 2019. Completely stopped working by Jan 2022. Only appliance for the entire kitchen set I decided not to get an extended warranty on, of course.
This was standard use in a home with two adults and a toddler. Kept it clean, and used appropriate settings. This was not an overused appliance in our home. LG customer service wasn’t much help, after several calls.
Only provided two numbers of local appliance repair companies. Left multiple messages and never got a call back from either. The microwave is useless now as anything other than as a vent and over range light.
That’s the only reason we’ve kept it up (aside from aesthetics) until we can decide what kind of replacement we want. Hesitant to buy another LG, although I’ve been happy with there other appliances I’ve owned over the last several years.
Chances are it’s the magnetron, which is covered under a 10 year warranty by LG, but you can’t get the part by itself for no cost apparently. Only able to get it through an LG contracted repair business, and labor is not covered.
From what I understand the labor costs are about as much as a brand new microwave. We may try and repair ourselves if we can figure out what the actual issue is. Just a bummer.
Purchased this for the home remodel when we purchased the new stove to keep the look the same. We replaced a worn product that was in the house since it was built and I couldn’t be happier with the decision.
This microware is significantly smarter than my old product – the automated features work so much better than expected. I love and routinely use the Soften/Melt feature for butter, chocolate, and other items used in baking.
Cleanup inside and out is a breeze! If you do manage to make a mess, just use a damp washcloth/paper towel and you are good to go for the next use. The exhaust fan with its 4 settings is fantastic. , my old unit had two settings “loud” and “horribly loud”.
Each setting on the from Low to Turbo does a great job of actually exhausting above the stove where the first two setting are very very quiet and the last two while you can hear them, they are not obnoxious.
I couldn’t be happier with the purchase and will recommend to my kids for their remodels.
I’ve had the microwave since Jan 20, 22, so I’ve had time to use it. My particular microwave has a glitch in the panel. Sometime when I go to set a time and press ‘start’, it only counts down. It doesn’t ‘power on’.
I called Warner’s, who I bought it from and found out that now the fix is on my shoulders, I have to call LG to set up warranty service. So I called and they told me if they can’t duplicate the problem when the technician is there, then they still charge me $60 to have it looked at.
This glitch has been on-going since it was installed. And it’s doing it all the time now. I found that when it fails to power on, if I open the door and then close it more firmly, THEN the microwave will start.
So, I’m an unhappy customer and plan to call LG to fix it. If they can’t duplicate the problem I plan to pay their $60 fee, remove the microwave and deliver back to Warner Stellan’s door step with a bill for the repair fee, plus the amount I paid for the microwave.
I may not recover my money, but I’ll sure feel a lot of satisfaction. Then I’ll go to one of the big box stores and buy another microwave, but it won’t be an LG.

When you purchase a new microwave you aren’t typically expecting a product that you will tell your friends about. Needless to say this was more than I expected. It’s the first microwave we’ve ever owned where the different settings, modes, and cook types actually function as expected.
It’s the little things like the steam, melting or softening butter (without it turning into a bowl of molten liquid), or reheating a dinner plate that made a difference. It’s easy to clean and works like a charm.
My only feedback would be for the vent fan settings. They are essentially Super high, very high, high, and low so we only use the fan on low unless there is a huge pot of boiling water (we have our vented outside).
But I installed this myself using the guide included and it was relatively simple (if you’re a confident handyman). I would buy this again, in fact I’m thinking of purchasing it for our new home.
Overall, I’m pleased with this microwave’s cooking/heating performance with the exception of some other features. This is my 5th Whirlpool appliance. I was very pleased with my first four appliances but have a few disappointments with this microwave.
1. The range light under the microwave has a mind of its own / doesn’t always work. It generally would take slamming the door for it to work but not always the case. We checked the bulb (in case it was loose connection) and even replaced the bulb itself but the issue persists.
After finding some other reviews from those who have had same issue, we’re hoping it’s not a circuit board issue. Nonetheless, we’ve just learned to do without the light. 2. The number pad scratches extremely easy and is even showing wear on the buttons we use most often (we’ve only owned it for 3 months and yes, we did remove the protective plastic film).
I like this microwave oven. It cooks well, although less power than my previous one. I’m not convinced ye that the sensing cycles really work–one time a bowl of soup came out boiling over and another it was just right.
It has a steam function that calls for a special container; I just use a large glass bowl and put a smaller one inside. It works pretty well, though I don’t know if it’s any different than just using the vegetable cycle.
The downlight is sufficient and the fan has 4 speeds. The oven runs quietly. The finish is good and matches my Fridgidaire non-print stainless. My only complaint would be that the instruction manual really isn’t helpful.
It names the cycles but doesn’t give much guidance on how to use the functions. My last microwave (purchased 15 years ago) had a full-size instruction manual and cookbook. It’s a good value when on sale.

I’ve had this microwave for almost 2 months now and love it. I replaced a 19yr old functioning Whirlpool Gold convection oven and realized that there has been some upgrades in technology over the years.
The operation of the microwave is decibels softer and does not interfere with trying to hear what is going on in the next room (TV and conversations). I use it typically from 1-2 mins for most of my re-heating and cooking frozen veggies at about 3-4 minutes.
Steaming in steamer bags for 2-3 minutes. The app integration went well once I was able to locate the appropriate app. The documentation lists the wrong app name, and the app is not obvious like Cafe or GE, it uses a 3rd party provider SmartHQ.
Smart HQ is not mentioned on any of the product documentation and when searching the App Store it does come up, but you should be careful what you install. Alexa integration was smooth and yes, it uses the SmartHQ skill.
Get my drift here folks? Cafe/GE microwave no SmartHQ in any of the branding. I use the “Alexa turn off/on the microwave light” or Alexa turn on the microwave for 2 minutes” commands often. Its handy when your hands are messy, or you need to tend to the stove top.
Finally, the look is a large reason I wanted it. It is so slick and clean looking. The fingerprint resistant control panel stays nice and clean. Just touch it on the left or right of the clock and it comes to life! So many reviews of people who couldn’t figure this one out.
We upgraded our Kitchen appliances is early 2022. We loved the look and wanted to get back some countertop space used for the old microwave. We never thought much about the features of a microwave, but we’ve learned quite a bit about the features of this microwave.
There is a nice range of presets, and the Scan-to-Cook feature is awesome, no guesswork necessary. Chef Connect is a great feature, which simplifies settings for controls. WiFi connect is also handy.
Never knew sensor cooking was possible with a microwave, not only do you avoid overcooking, but you can actually set your preference and achieve it. The lighting and fan were quite a surprise. The lighting over cooktop illuminates the entire area.
The fan settings are great, with the highest setting doing a fantastic job to minimize cooking odor permeating everywhere. We’ve learned a lot about microwaving food with this appliance and it’s made meal preparation much easier.
This newer Cafe Series replaced an older GE Cafe over the range microwave, both in the $1000. price range. Completely new design although sleek in appearance, doesn’t match previous Cafe appliances. The exhaust fan is VERY LOUD, even on the lowest setting.
The various food selections for perfect heating is limited compared to the previous touch screen model from 2010. The surface cook LED light is nice and bright but could be improved with a warmer color temperature Kelvin rating for less of a blue color.
Haven’t tried WiFi connectivity yet but th could be improved to include Siri/ Apple HomeKit along with Alexa and Google commands. Hoping the el tropic touch works longer than the old model, which had off and on keypad issues for a few years.
Its preset electronic controls provide versatile cooking options, and a two-speed fan helps whisk away cooking odors. Use the adjustable light of this 1. 7 cu. ft. Whirlpool over-the-range microwave oven as a night-light or illumination for your stovetop.
2-Speed, 300 CFM Motor Class Match the right amount of ventilation to the dish being prepared and quickly get rid of cooking odors with two different fan speed settings. (Performance varies based on installation.
Dishwasher-Safe Turntable Plate Clean up spills on the turntable by simply putting it in the dishwasher. Microwave Presets Get just the right amount of heat and time, whether you’re cooking or defrosting, with specific preset options.
Add 30 Seconds Option Quickly set the microwave timer to 30 seconds or add it to already in-progress cooking time with the touch of a button. Electronic Touch Controls Navigate through cooking modes and options with controls that are as easy to use as they are to clean.
Adjustable Cooktop Lighting Keep an eye on what’s cooking below the microwave or keep a nightlight on in the kitchen.
Purchased this microwave for our new home as we had purchased the same model for our apartment. After a few weeks, it exploded and the motor had blown. The rotating stopped and we had to wait a few weeks until a technician came to fix it.
He turned up, only to tell us a part had to be ordered. Waited a few weeks for the part to be installed. The unit would grind and make noises when rotating and the plate would rotate by itself if we opened the door (so, we knew there was still a problem.
) After a few weeks of using it quite anxiously, once again, the unit exploded except this time there was a large spark which my wife only avoided because she reacted quick enough. I dare to think what would have happened had it been an elder or someone younger.
Now, the unit is completely dead. Whirlpool will no doubt send a “technician” to fix this but the unit is clearly faulty. We’ve spent several thousand dollars on a whirlpool wall oven and dishwasher- and expect better from them.
I hope they do the right thing and replace this hazardous machine which we were sold. I had trust that an American product wouldn’t let us down- I guess I was wrong!.
I purchased this microwave from Costco after seeing the excellent reviews online. I replaced a older Frigidaire microwave with this model after doing a lot of searching online. So far I am not disappointed in the ease of use and quality of the appliance.
The fan is quite a bit quieter than our old one and the light is sufficient for seeing when cooking. My only complaint would be not with whirlpool but with the information in Costco website regarding the fan cfm’s.
Costco stayed the fan cfm’s were 330 but I believe it’s only 300. It also said that there were 4 speeds but turns out there is only 2. Not a deal breaker but would have been nice to have the correct information.
Installing the microwave wasn’t too hard as I did it myself but I would recommend two people to lift it into place as it is a bit heavy. I hope this microwave lasts a long as the old one.
From beginning to end, the entire process was OUTSTANDING! My previous microwave went out right before Thanksgiving. Never realized how much I depended on it until it was no longer than. Purchased online and Whirlpool contacted me for installation.
Everything went smoothly! Whirlpool has the BEST customer service and have gained a new customer. Need to replace my fridge and will be looking at Whirlpool. The microwave is HUGE inside. I was worried about how it would look above my black range since it was Stainless Steel and Black.
IT IS A PERFECT ADDITION!! Very quiet. Wouldn’t know there was something in there if the reminder button didn’t go on. Love the delayed cooking feature. And that the 30 second button is part of the Start button.
This over-the-range microwave’s contemporary, easy-to-clean finish is perfectly complemented by forward-looking functions. Wifi connect provides you with voice control and smartphone connectivity, and scan-to-cook technology prepares food items with the scan of a barcode.
Chef connect automatically activates vents and surface lights when a range element is turned on. It also syncs your microwave and range clocks for added convenience. Nothing about your personal style is standard.

Reviews From Real Customers
This is a gorgeous product, and the lighting, fan, and noise levels are all within my expectations. Unlike other reviews, I find the vent fan to be reasonable in terms of the noise levels. The lighting, I’m surprised to say, is halogen/filament type and I’m surprised it’s not LED, because the surface lights put out quite a bit of heat just lighting up the range top.
The performance of the convection oven and microwave seem to be just fine and as expected. Nothing too surprising. The small elevated wire rack that goes on the turntable is too small and seems very cheap as it doesn’t even fit the turntable – I’ll have to look for a suitable replacement.
Here’s my biggest issue. The controls for this are just whacky – it makes me feel like the controls are an afterthought instead of a design feature. So while this is really impressive in the looks department and I suppose in the performance department, using it in everyday life makes you feel like it’s 1998.
For example, to preheat the convection oven, I press “Convection Bake”, then I have to scroll using “Arrow Keys” to set a manual temperature, then I enter the temperature using the digits, then I hit “Select” and then I press “Start” to preheat.
BUT WAIT!!! I didn’t first OPEN the door to the microwave so that I can start the preheat, so I have to open the door, look inside at it’s emptiness, then close it and press “Start” and THEN and only then, will it preheat.
Same thing with the microwave – unless you’ve opened and closed the door sometime recently, you can’t start the microwave – which seems reasonable, except for the “why” of it all??? Is it unsafe for me to preheat my oven without looking inside of it first, really??? Here’s another example, to turn the fan on high, you press “Fan”, to turn the fan off, you press “Fan”, “Fan”, “Fan”, “Fan”, “Fan”, “Fan”.
You have to got to level 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 then Off. Really??? Here’s the point, I use fan a lot, I also usually cook on a manual setting. I don’t see why I have to push so many buttons to do something that I do everyday – it feels like it was designed by a video game engineer from 1984.
Hahaha. So I love the product, I love the looks, and it works just fine – but who at KitchenAid is actually talking to customers to see how they can make the user interaction work for REAL people? It’s sad to see such poor focus on the interface here – it’s prettyy consistent through all of KitchenAid’s product line (I just bought $10k worth of appliances and they all suffer).
We purchased anew microwave and range around August 2020. I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed in a microwave, but this one made that happen. A microwave’s one job is to heat food. This one can’t seem to do that.
It is 200 watts less than the microwave it replaced, and that is fine. I would expect longer heating times. However, this thing just doesn’t work. If heating certain items (soft pretzel for example) the microwave will have half of the pretzel hard and overdone, and another area still cold.
Not frozen, but not edibly warmed. Soups and stews, they take over twice as long to cook as our old microwave, and the outside is hot and bubbling, the inside is still cold. A while back, I was boiling water, and you could see the water stop boiling at some point in the rotation on the tray, and then it would pass through an area and start boiling, and then stop again after it went through that area.
Clearly there is an issue with the microwave distribution. The turntable is supposed to compensate for those microwave fluctuations, but it is woefully insufficient. The magneto and capacitor were replaced last year under warranty, and that did improve the cooking even-ness, but it is still very poor.
We are planning on getting a new refrigerator and dishwasher to match, but with the very disappointing experience with both this microwave and the KitchenAid range we got, we may just sell these both off and replace them with something that actually works.
I don’t know that I trust Kitchen Aid with major appliances based on our experiences here.
We purchased this microwave as it matches the KitchenAid double ovens we purchased a little over a year ago (also through American Freight). The purchase and process with American Freight was very easy and smooth.
When I arrived at the store JT assisted me with getting unit off the floor (we purchased the floor model on this one) and out to the car; he even helped me get it into the backseat of my car. The only issue we had installing the unit is that there was no template since we did not get the original box.
So after some measuring we figured out where we had to drill holes for the mounting as this is an over-the-range model. You will want to have at least 2 people to help lift this unit into place and onto the mounting bracket.
It is large and a little heavy. My wife and I were able to lift it and get it into place. Once on the mounting bracket you feed the power cord through your cabinet and then 2-screws from the top get you bolted in.
Operating this microwave is very easy from the front panel controls. I like that the controls use touch and are under the glass and not those membrane type controls that wear out over time. The microwave while running is very quiet.
I am used to the “microwave hum” found in most microwaves but this unit is very quiet in comparison. It seems to heat well so far (only installed it 2-days ago so not a tremendous amount of use yet).
The only big thing I have is that while I like the big heavy-duty handle that same handle is a marvelous heatsink when cooking on the cook top underneath. It was almost burn your hand hot. However it cools quickly once the cook top is off.
The way our cook top is situated the big burner (we have a gas cook top) is directly under the handle and of course this is the burner we use most often. Nothing an oven bit won’t fix if you have to open/close the door while cooking on the cook top as well.
16. Whirlpool 1.1 Cu. ft. Low Profile Microwave Hood – White – WML55011HW
1.10 Cu. Ft.
Low Profile Design
400 CFM Motor Class High Performance Venting
Concealed Touch Controls
This ultra-sleek, high-performance Whirlpool over-the-range microwave and hood combination saves space while offering ample room for all the essentials you need to heat up. Boasting a 1. 1 cu. ft. capacity, this microwave comes with concealed touch controls located behind the tap-to-open door for convenience.
Finished in a bright, modern white hue with a powder-coated inside, this kitchen appliance includes its own ventilation system with charcoal odour-removing filters to keep your home smelling like roses.
IšverstiShow in original languageI have the appliance installed to vent up through the roof. However, when I turn on the fan, air is coming out from the vent covers at the top, especially the top left cover (i.
e. C as shown on p. 5 of the Installation Instructions) and the door hinge. I expect all air should be vented out through the vent pipe. I have disconnected the vent pipe to check to make sure the damper blade moves freely and opens fully.
It does and air is still coming out from the front. I believe that proves the issue is not related to the damper blade or the vent pipe. I chatted with Whirlpool customer support and asked whether that is normal.
The message I got is “The installation instructions serve as the complete source for how your appliance needs to be installed. If you do require further assistance with installation, I would follow up with a local installer in your area.
” That is not helpful at all. I have read through the installation instructions several times to make sure I have not missed anything. I don’t know whether this is normal, whether this is a design defect or manufacturing defect.
Even if it is a manufacturing defect, I have to spend money to hire a Whirlpool licensed installer to check first. I just need to know whether the air leak from the front is normal when the fan is on.
Unfortunately, I could not get the answer from Whirlpool and it would be expensive to get the answer to a simple question. If you plan to recirculate the exhaust, there should be no problem. The only thing I like is the low profile.
IšverstiShow in original languageDid a bit of research and settled on this one after seeing many good reviews and positive feedback on Consumer Reports. So far this has not disappointed. We have a small kitchen, so the countertop space it saves and the above the stove space it saves makes a huge difference.
It sticks out from under the cabinet a little further than other OtR units but I don’t find it unsightly. This unit might not heat food as evenly, so we tend to cook a little longer sometimes, especially for more dense foods.
Though it really hasn’t been too bad and works very well otherwise. The stove exhaust fan works fantastically and much better than our previous unit. We had a one problem with instructions for the mounting but it wasn’t terrible to fix once we figured it out.
You definitely want two people around work on mounting it or hiring a professional, as it is heavy and wouldn’t really be possible for one person to do on their own.
IšverstiShow in original languageI replaced my kitchen appliances a year ago and it took me that long to decide on an over-the-range microwave. After taking all the measurements, with a regular-sized microwave I would only have about 9 inches of clearance between the bottom of the microwave and the top of the range elements.
I wanted a bigger clearance and I’d had my eye on this model since it first came out. I had read some iffy reviews about the turntable, noise, etc. and I was worried about the additional 4 inches of depth.
I kept thinking it would stick out too far and look silly or get in the way. Then I measured my existing range hood and realized it was even deeper and I knew this would be okay. And it is. The depth doesn’t diminish the sleek look of this thing.
I’ve had no problem with the turntable. I agree the fan is a little noisy, but doable. I also agree that the light isn’t very bright – again, I can live with it. My biggest con would be the wattage: My old, large, countertop microwave was a powerful workhorse that going strong after 14 years.
This one is far less powerful. When food had a cooking time range, I always used to pick the lesser (and sometimes even less than that); now I have to add time to every set of cooking instructions or my food is still not cooked.
It still works – you just have to extend the cooking times, which makes the pre-sets pretty useless, since they undercook, as well. The biggest pro is the sleek, gorgeous design and extra room above the range.
I wouldn’t change my decision – I know if I’d selected a larger microwave, it might have cooked faster, but I wouldn’t have liked the look or the loss of space over the range. For me, the design makes up for everything else and I would still recommend it for that reason.
Automatically adjusts the cooking time and temperature as needed for your food. Helps you prepare steamed favorites like vegetables and fish. Allows you to quickly clean up spills without chemicals. Achieve the perfect heat and cooking time for specific preset options.

Overall, this is a great microwave when it comes to what is most important, cooking food. We have had it for about a week, and so far it is working great. But there are a couple of small things, that I would say if it was not already delivered and installed and I was picking one knowing everything, I would choose a different one.
It all depends on what you may like and need though. But some good things to note: 1. There is only one bulb for the cooking light under the microwave that lights up the cook top, and it is in the very back, and is incredibly dim.
It’s great as a nightlight, but not very helpful as a cooking light. We are going to need to purchase a light strip or something as our lighting in the kitchen is not the best. 2. The microwave does not seem to have a pause option.
We are a bit afraid to just open the door to do something like stir the food and continue cooking, because the reason we have this one now is the previous one started to trip the breaker if we opened the door without stopping the microwave first.
Eventually it started to trip as soon as we started any cooking cycle. We found out it was due to a safety mechanism designed to make sure the microwave does not run with the door open. If the switch starts to fail, it will trip the breaker to make sure the microwave does not run with the door open.
We got this one as part of a Geek Squad replacement. Of course this one may not have a similar issue as the door latch is completely different, but we are nervous either way. There is only a cancel button, and it completely stops the cycle, so either you cancel, and then put in your time again, or you just open the door.
There is no pause. 3. The last point is a convenience feature. The last 2 microwaves we had, had quick start buttons, where you could just press 1, 2, 3, and it would cook for that many minutes. With this one you will have to manually type out how long you want to cook, or press the +30 seconds button several times.
Nothing major other than the light for us. The light is more or less would have been a deal breaker for us if we woudl have realized prior to installation. Hope this helps.
Bought this unit and feel like it is a good compromise regarding size, price and performance. However, before installing it, I read through the manual and noticed that they recommended replacing a carbon filter every 6 months.
So I thought to myself, lets see if this filter change would be difficult to accomplish once the beast is mounted. So with the aid of a convenient countertop and full easy access to the filter location area, I discovered that no, it would be impossible to change the filter without removing the entire cover.
It seems that when they made the sliding part to give access to the filter, they made it too large to be removed. Now it should be noted that that filter is probably not as much an issue for those venting outside of the home, but for those recirculating air through the filter, it will be a more pressing issue.
We returned the unit and purchased the next more expensive unit in the line, which also happened to be a Consumer Reports best unit pick and have been very happy so far. More features, quieter operation and a functioning filter change mechanism made the more expensive unit worthwhile.
Im returning this microwave for the following reasons. 1. No matter what setting you heat, the amount of steam and condensation that accumulates in the oven is horrible. if i close the door the water remains.
Its like the walls after a shower. Eventually i fear mold forming. 2. it takes almost 4 minutes to heat water in a 20 oz mug. I could have heated on the stove quicker. Everything takes so much longer that any microwave ive used.
The sensor is a good idea if you trust your veggies/etc to be overcooked. If you just want them heated, do not count on it. it looks nice and button options i liked. The turn table is only 12″. Not what i prefer.
its too small. The one positive compared to GE and others is that the turntable pivot mount disc actually works in holding the glass dish in position. However it does have a lip to the edge of the glass which i often hit lifting my mug out.
Other reviewers have mentioned this too. Microwave vent above the unit creates a great deal of moisture on cabinets overhead. Do not want to see what they would eventually do to my wood cabinets in time.
This high power, 1000-watt microwave oven features four sensor functions to assist you in the kitchen by automatically adjusting the time needed to cook, reheat or defrost without guesswork about power levels or cooking times.
The interior’s CookShield Finish wipes clean without harsh chemicals so it looks brighter longer while the exterior is a bold blend of professionally-inspired styling with sleek touches for the home.
We have been impressed in the past by KitchenAid quality when we replaced our dishwasher in 2016, and finally got the opportunity to remodel our kitchen in 2019. The Black SST contrasted very nicely with the natural maple cabinets.
Unfortunately the microwave has not been as well behaved as the refrigerator, dishwasher and convection range. The first microwave was dead out of the box, not heating the glass of water during the initial test.
This was quickly exchanged by the appliance store. The second microwave did not last 3 years. Upon starting some broccoli to steam, a very loud bang was followed by a high buzzing sound. When I think that I replaced an entry level GE microwave with 10 years of operation, I would expect a microwave almost 3x the cost made by KitchenAid would last at least as long.
During the 2 1/2 years, I have noticed no improved performance that would rate this worth purchasing other than it was quieter. The only push to replace with the same model is the aesthetics and match to the KFEG500EBS 6.
4 cubic foot oven and KRMF706EBS refrigerator. Maybe I will purchase the 5 year warranty on the next microwave.
See this review of 3-2021. “Poor manufacturing quality alert!!! Our microwave came pre-installed in our condo in a high-rise building. Actually, all of our appliances are from Whirlpool/KitchenAid, which were pre-installed by the building developer.
The microwave worked fine for about 3 years, but then we started experiencing a very annoying open door error problem. The door is properly closed, but the microwave is not recognizing it as closed due to a faulty door switch mechanism.
Thus, it would simply not start. If only we close and open the door multiple times (sometimes >10 times), it would start working again. We always keep our microwave very clean, so there is definitely no contamination of the door switch mechanism.
Originally, we thought it was just us being so unlucky. However, it turns out many other owners in our building, maybe even all of them, have the exact same problem!!! Moreover, I contacted an official KitchenAid authorized technician, who turned out to be a nice humble guy, so he actually told me right away that he knows exactly what the problem is, because he has already fixed HUNDREDS of KitchenAid microwaves with this issue.
The issue is a poor quality door switch/interlock system, which does not last. The cost of replacement is >$250. The good thing is that the replacement part is now manufactured differently and considered more robust, so this problem is well known to KitchenAid/Whirlpool.
We thought OK, our microwave is not under warranty anymore, so we agreed to pay for it, but here comes another unpleasant surprise. There are no door switch kits available at this time and they have to be backordered with wait times of at least several months!!!! Multiple owners in our building have been waiting for over three months already, so some of them just bought new microwaves instead.
I understand that everybody can make mistakes, but good companies can at least admit their manufacturing mistakes and try to compensate their loyal customers. We bought this microwave in 10-2017. same exact issues with the door opening as above.
For God sakes, I bought a KitchenAide product. sure didn’t think I was buying a piece of crap like this. Certainly didn’t think think it would ever crap out after less than 3 years. Very, very, very disappointed.
Would never recommend this product to anyone. Sounds like it s a very common problem too! What’s worst, is every response to any complaint on this site on this microwave is the same. “Hello XXX Thank you for your review.
We sincerely apologize for the concerns with your Microwave and would like to review this further with you. Please reach out via Facebook. or Twitter. We look forward to speaking with you. ” This sounds very sincere , huh! Beware of this product.
!!!!!!!!!! Despite the KitchenAide lable , it sucks.
Bought all Kitchenaid appliances (refrigerator, oven, microwave and dishwasher) and they are all failing outside of the dishwasher. As for the microwave (model KMHS120ESS) it has been good until it started randomly making the beeping notification that food was complete, when it was not in use.
Then we started getting the open/close door error message that would not allow us to start cooking. We checked for any obstructions and cleaned as best we could, only to have to issue continue. I’ve had to turn off the breaker a few times, as that seems to be the only reset option.
We’re extremely disappointed, as Kitchenaid is supposed to be a top-of-line brand. Apparently it’s all looks and cheap parts. We will be looking elsewhere for new appliances soon.
Cook dinner or pop a bag of popcorn in this GE over-the-range microwave oven, featuring convenience cooking controls for quick results. Sensor cooking offers even cooking for everything from tender meats to casseroles.
The easy-clean enamel exterior on this GE over-the-range microwave oven makes cleaning up accidental splatters and spills super easy. 1000W of power. Electronic controls. 10 power levels. Add 30 seconds feature.
We just had it installed the other day so can’t comment on longevity. But it fit nicely in the space previously occupied by our 12 year-old GE Profile microwave, the controls are intuitive, it’s spacious inside, and it heats things just as quickly as our old one did before it died.
I also really appreciate that they used a warm/yellowish color temperature for the surface light, when so many bulbs these days are cooler/bluer (our undercabinet lighting is 2700K and the bulbs here match them pretty well).
The only two complaints I have are that there is no dimmer option for the clock (it’s either SUPER BRIGHT or off) and the door feels a lot flimsier than the door on our old one. But hopefully we won’t break it.
We also had Geek Squad come install it and they did a really great job. Super professional and competent, careful and thorough, good communication, and very well prepared. They brought a little hand vac to clean up sawdust and stray styrofoam, and a pad and plastic cover to put on top of the stove while they were installing the microwave so they wouldn’t damage or dirty the surface of the stove.
I have a model JVM7195EK6ES. I received “Quick Use and Care” with the microwave and “Installation Instructions”. In the latter, it says that to replace the charcoal filter you remove the 2 screws from the top of the plastic grill and slide it forward.
Well, mine does not have 2 screws in the top of the plastic grill. I sent away for the complete manual. I received “Owner’s Manual” from GE. In there, it says to replace the charcoal filter, you press the buttons on the filter which is suppose to be on the front of the plastic grill.
Mine has no such door. So, I went back to the showroom, sure enough, there is a door on the front of the grill on the showroom model. I explained that the one delivered and installed does not have that door nor does it have the 2 screws in the top of the plastic grill in order to remove the grill.
Salesman says he is still waiting to hear from the rep. I called GE. Brittany told me that it is probably on the top of the microwave. I explained that it is an over the range item and is bolted to the cupboard above.
Brittany told me I would have to take down the microwave to replace the charcoal filter. I laughed out loud, said thank you and ended the call. When I went back to the showroom, I explained to the salesman that mine looks just like an LG model that they had on the floor with the solid plastic grill, no door and no screws on top of the grill.
Mine also has what appears to be a charcoal grill that you can see from the top of the grill on the right hand side just like on the LG model they had. It is not self contained as you can see it through the top of the grill and it is similar to an accordion, it runs with the pleats being vertical.
I am at a real loss and can get no answers at this point. I have and have had other GE appliances that I am very happy with. But my new microwave and new fridge have both turned out to be huge disappointments.
One of the reasons I chose this microwave was because the charcoal filter was going to be so easy to replace every 6 months. Now, I cannot even figure out how to get to it and I do not think this filter looks anything like the ones pictured in the manuals – from what I can see from the top of grill looking down into the openings.
There are no doors on the grill nor behind the grill. NOT PLEASED!.
We just replaced our JVM7195DK2 with a JVM7195DK6 after probably 8 years. I was happy to find the exact replacement locally available, and the price seemed to me to be roughly the same as the last one I bought.
There have been some changes! Installation backplate is slightly different, cabinet shelf hold placement is different as well, so my hopes of a simple swap were dashed. Then we noticed that there is one light, not two.
The plate is substantially thinner and lighter (2lbs vs 3. 4lbs), and the metal on the inside is substantially thinner as well. The structure around the charcoal filter is much less fortified and totally different as well.
All the features remain the same, but it is clear that manufacturing is not as substantial overall, and apparently it is the difference in manufacturing from Mexico to China. If I knew this going in, I may have shopped for a more substantial unit.
That said, the new one works excellent, just as its predecessor, but we’ll have to see how well it holds up over time.

Samsung replaced several pieces and parts in my microwave due to error codes and non responsive buttons which began immediately after purchasing a package with a matching Samsung fridge, stove/oven, dishwasher (and of course this [horrendous] microwave.
) This is our first (and last) experience with Samsung. Despite all the replacements, i was still left with an ineffective unit. Just 2 weeks ago I was lucky I answered the phone when I had a house/dog sitter call me to tell me my microwave was on fire and ask what they should do.
I can’t help but think about what would have happened if I didn’t answer the phone at that moment; I’m sure I wouldn’t be writing this review from my bed. Regardless, even two weeks after the fire the microwave still reeks of electrical issues gone terribly wrong.
And what does Samsung have to say? NOTHING except, “I’m sorry, however you are just slightly out of your warranty. Would you like to pay for a technician to come and take a look at it?” After nothing but problems with this thing and then almost burning down my house, no, absolutely not! Samsung is a joke and should be replacing at their cost at the very least.
For your safety, stay far far away from this microwave. If you are looking to burn down your house, then this is the microwave for you.
I purchased this Samsung Microwave because my wife wanted a white microwave to match the white range below this “over-the-range” microwave, and this brand was especially attractive. However, I was disappointed to find that this model was not equipped with a handy feature that my previous GE model offered.
My GE microwave would allow me to simply depress the number one and the microwave would turn on and heat for one minute, or the number two for two minutes of cook time, etc. , all the way through ten for ten minutes of good time.
This was a simple, but very handy feature (one button for action, as opposed to having to press “Cook Time”, then three number presses for the desired heating time, then start). Also, with my previous GE model, when I put a a coffee cup into the microwave, no matter what time I selected, when the heating cycle was complete, the handle of the coffee cup would always wind-up in the same orientation as the start of the heating cycle.
This was very handy in that I did not have to reach around a very not coffee mug to rotate the coffee cup around where I could access the coffee mug handle to remove the coffee mug from the microwave.
I am always heating water for tea, or reheating a cup of coffee. I found it annoying that this Samsung microwave almost always resulted in the coffee mug handle being in a less-than-optimal position for removing the hot mug from the microwave (it would often finish the heating cycle with the coffee mug handle at the back of the hot mug).
This “completion-of-heating-cycle” did not matter if I was reheating a plate of food. And lastly, we have one of the rare situations where the cabinet on the left side of the microwave extended out three inches further than the right side of the microwave.
This did not allow the Samsung microwave door to open more than eight inches, as the door pivot point extended an inch past the left side (door hinge side). The previous GE model did not have this problem as the door never extended beyond the left side of the microwave.
We did not realize that this was an issue until it came time to replace our GE Microwave. We therefore had to return this Samsung Microwave to Best Buy and selected a GE 1. 9 cubit foot model in which the door only pivots out 1/8.
To be fair, the doors on 95% of all the “over-the-range” microwaves that Best Buy had on display pivot 1/2″ to 1-1/4″. My kitchen cabinetry is a very rare circumstance and I don’t expect the manufacturers of microwave ovens to have to accommodate situations such as mine.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that my new GE Microwave oven still offers the one-button express feature, as well as the same start/finish orientation of my coffee cup. Also, to be fair, we have a Samsung upright washer and drier and have been super happy with these appliances, and would be very happy to consider other Samsung appliances in the future.
Serves the purpose of an over-the-range microwave. I was concerned about the size fitting the space from a 19 year old GE unit that I had to replace however fit like a glove. We have a rear vent installation.
Being a DYIer and new to this appliance I had to ask a lot of questions. The staff at Best Buy was clear that this was a top vent unit and that is all they sell. The employee on the floor even called someone to confirm.
You can’t see them completely on display so I took a flyer that I could figure out how to vent out the rear and sure enough, clear instructions on how to convert from top vent to rear vent. Would be good for the Best Buy staff to learn a bit more about these units.
Somewhat cheaply made, others have commented about the plastic face on door. From what I read subject to scratching if not careful when cleaning. Glad I read that in a different review. Kitchen timer beeps 5 times when time expired then is gone.
if you are not in the room when it goes off, you may miss what you are timing. Our old GE unit would produce a reminder beep every 15 seconds or so until you hit cancel. Did not come with much of an owners manual.
Still trying to figure out some of the functionality and the control pad. Hopefully once I track down a users manual will be a bit more clear. Petty complaint, when you hit quick 30 second heat you still have to hit start.
Others I’ve used it kicks in right away. Also can’t add 30 seconds to the timer while it is counting down. Really liked that feature on our old GE as well. I purchased the day before it went on sale and used $30 in reward $$ I had earned at BB.
The price dropped the next day and I contacted BB for a price match, which they honored however they only discounted from the net price after the reward $, not on the original price I paid. Not sure worth the effort to press this issue.
The conclusion of the 24 inch over the range microwave is that it is a great addition to your kitchen. It is very versatile and can be used for a variety of tasks. It is also very easy to install and use.
