With plenty of sun, sand, surf, entertainment and outdoor adventure, Virginia Beach is an ideal vacation destination for kids of any age, making it easy for the whole family to “Live the Life.” Whether you live on the East Coast, or are considering heading there soon, Virginia Beach is definitely a place to add to your summer vacation shortlist. There are a variety of attractions for families to visit:
- The iconic Virginia Beach Boardwalk stretches for three miles and is lined with hotels, restaurants, museums, and historic sites.
- The Statue of King Neptune on 31st street is an iconic spot to visit. Take a photo with the 34-foot, cast bronze Neptune that statue stands at the gateway to Neptune Park and the threshold of the sea.
- Rent a surrey or cruiser and bike along the beach. Miles of ocean stretch before you.
- Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is a great stop for kids. Explore over 800,000 gallons of one of the best aquariums and animal habitats in the country.
- The Military Aviation Museum is home to one of the largest private collections of World War I and World War II era military aircraft in the world.
- The Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a 4,589-acre refuge to provide a feeding and resting habitat for migratory birds. Take a hike, relax and fish, or take some photos while you tour the refuge.
- Visit the beach … or three! Virginia Beach is made up of three beaches: the Resort area which includes the boardwalk, Chesapeake Bay beach, known to locals as Chick’s Beach, and Sandbridge beach.
- First Landing State Park was the first landing spot of the Jamestown colonists in 1607. When hiking here, Cape Henry Light House is visible and a great thing to see.
- Sign your kids up for surf camps at any of the beaches, and take kayak tours at back bay.
- Where to eat? Nicki with little island studios absolutely loved the atmosphere, as well as, fresh and local seafood at Rudee’s Restaurant & Cabana Bar on the Inlet! “We watched the boats dock and supply their day’s catch – it’s that fresh. We also enjoyed the outside table gliders and seating on the dock. Our waitress, Cory, made the whole experience even better with her knowledge of the menu, food and to be honest, the way she treated my little one and all of this made Rudee’s our most favorite place to eat!”
