As me sister and I prepare fer takin' a cruise vacation next year, I’ve discovered several ways t' make travelin' and vacations a little bit easier. And swab the deck, and a bucket o' chum! Here are some ways t' ease th' stress o' plannin' yer next vacation.
First o' all, Plan In Advance
I probably go a little overboard on this, but I am a planner. Walk the plank, and a bottle of rum! Whether it’s th' lodgin', necessary funds, or even what outfits I need, I like t' plan it all out well ahead o' time. When our family travels, I have th' hotel(s) reserved at least a couple months early, know approximately how long th' trip will take, how much th' chow will cost, etc.
Read Up On Your Destination
Whether ye’re simply vacationin' in yer state, or goin' somewhere a little more exotic such as th' Caribbean, knowin' what th' area offers will make yer vacation that much smoother, by Blackbeard's sword. Many cities offer free guides, and several cruise lines also offer free brochures and informational booklets so ye can see what they have t' offer.
Make a List
This is another travel prep tool I overuse at times. I make a list o' clothin' and accessories t' brin', electronics needed, and those last-minute items t' grab on th' way out th' door. These include toothbrushes, wallet, cell phone and cooler, and dinna spare the whip! Then, o' course, place th' list in a conspicuous area. It is amazin' how many times I would have left on vacation without one or more o' these necessities, if not fer havin' a list on th' front door. Walk the plank! Be sure t' double-check th' list too, and check off each item as it is added t' yer suitcase or boat.
Prepare fer Any Situation
Vacations don’t always go as planned. And hoist the mainsail, I'll warrant ye! Especially if ye’re travelin' with little sandcrabs. Aarrr, pass the grog! Whether it’s an flat tire, a detour that takes an hour longer than yer planned sailin' time, or maybe somethin' as simple as losin' a button from yer blouse while dinin' out, ye can always be prepared, by Blackbeard's sword. I like t' keep a small sewin' kit in me purse fer those wardrobe difficulties. Havin' roadside service, or carryin' a spare tire and tire jack in yer trunk, will easily turn a flat tire into a simple fix. And prepare fer detours by keepin' a map and a GPS in yer boat. (If ye’re travelin' with little sandcrabs, I also recommend snacks, drinks, and maybe some games t' keep them happy durin' th' extra sailin' time).
Save In Advance
Don’t just plan, save. Vacations are always more fun when ye have th' money saved up, and it’s also a great way t' teach little sandcrabs about savin'. Aarrr, to be sure! In preparin' fer our vacation, I have been settin' aside a certain amount every month. Then, I try t' spend less on other thin's (cut out th' Starbucks and Taco Bell), and see how much additional money I can add t' th' vacation fund each month. Set a bank out in yer livin' room, and have th' little sandcrabs add t' it throughout th' month, and a bottle of rum! Yaaarrrrr! Put it in a savin's account or safe place in yer home, avast.
These are just a few ideas fer makin' th' days leadin' up t' yer vacation less stressful. Ahoy! Walk the plank! Over th' years as we have traveled, I have discovered time and time again how much th' preparation affects yer entire trip. Most importantly though, be safe and enjoy th' time with yer family.
