There are so many things being said about the upcoming iPhone 6 right now that it’s hard to keep track of what’s true and what isn’t. Of course, until Apple actually makes any official statements, we will have to rely on speculation. Right now, though, the Wall Street Journal is claiming that this could be the iPhone’s largest initial production ever. They are anticipating a high demand and, based on all the hype, they are probably right.

What is it about this upcoming release that has people in such a frenzy?  Well, after years of making very few design changes, it looks as though Apple has decided to make major modifications. Here are some of the rumors and details currently floating around.

Bigger Screen

It’s being reported that the iPhone 6 will be available in two sizes – one with a screen measuring 4.7 inches and the other measuring 5.5 inches diagonally. That’s a nice leap from the iPhone 5S and 5C that have 4-inch screens. Of course, a probable reason for this upgrade is that their main rival, Samsung, have made ads showing iPhone users having “screen envy” since their newest model, the Galaxy S5, has a 5.1-inch screen. This will even out the playing field a little more.

More Durable Screen

It also appears that the iPhone 6 will have an incredibly durable screen. The front display panel is rumored to be made of sapphire crystal. At least one video has been circulating of someone trying to actually do damage to one of these screens with no success. Review sites have been saying that it’s more likely that this high quality panel will go on the 5.5-inch model of the iPhone 6 whereas the 4.7-inch model will be fitted with Gorilla Glass (which is currently used by Apple).

iOS8

While there hasn’t been anything earth-shattering written about iOS8, we do know that there are some improvements to many of the existing iPhone features. The operating system will offer more cross-device compatibility and will incorporate HealthKit and HomeKit which have been designed to help manage health and fitness gadgets as well as smart home electronics.

Sleek, Efficient Design

If anything we read is to be believed, the iPhone 6 should be their thinnest phone to-date. It will also have more rounded edges which is a departure from the instantly recognizable boxy design most associated with Apple. Additionally, leaked photos suggest that the upcoming device’s battery capacity will be noticeably greater which could mean that users will get more use out of a single charge.

Just like everything else, the actual release date is a bit of a mystery but most outlets seem to agree that the iPhone 6 to become available in September 2014.
