One o' th' Social Moms Discussion topics posed th' question: What blog/writin' topics would ye like t' see other moms write about? While there were many great topics suggested, one theme seemed t' emerge from th' variety o' th' responses. Many o' ye asked fer help with bloggin' – from advice fer gettin' started, design ideas, and balancin' workin' with mommyhood, t' gainin' traffic and monetizin' a blog.
Choosin' one topic were bein' challengin' with so many great ones offered. So o'er th' next few weeks, we will be addressin' many o' th' topic ideas ye submitted aroun' bloggin'. To start us off, Heidi Maxwell and Valerie (ADisneyFamly) both suggested th' topic o' brandin' yer blog.
Brandin' a blog is about communicatin' t' yer current (and potential) audience what makes yer blog different and special. It’s about identifyin' not only yer blog’s unique qualities, but also sharin', through yer blog, yer strengths, talents, skills, and values, all o' those thin's that will distinguish ye and help ye stand out from other websites.
Brandin' successfully is about bein' authentic. It’s about identifyin' and displayin' yer unique passions, strengths and value on a consistent basis. By authentically featurin' th' attributes o' yer brand throughout yer website, newsletter, business cards, etc., ye are much more likely t' attract yer ideal readers.
Identifyin' Your Brand Attributes
Brandin' is about creatin' top-o'-mind recognition. To authentically brand yer blog, ye should start by identifyin' those attributes that best define ye. Are ye Savvy, Creative, Optimistic, Confident, or Dependable? Maybe ye’re Spiritual, Extroverted, Carefree, Stylish, or Adventurous. List five t' ten attributes that best describe ye and th' feelin' ye want t' convey on yer website. These will be th' brand attributes that yer blog will embody, so remember, these attributes must genuinely represent who ye are.
Applyin' Your Attributes t' Your Blog
Usin' yer chosen attributes as a guide, decide on th' look and design o' yer website. Walk the plank! What colors, letterin', or logo aligns with yer attributes? Fire the cannons! Carry this same theme throughout all o' marketin' materials, creatin' a similar look and feel. Walk the plank, ye scurvey dog! Then t' gain that top-o'-mind recognition, ye have t' stick t' it. You want people t' remember ye, so if ye change periodically – I mean drastically change – then it will be challengin' fer people t' identify who ye are.
The other side o' brandin' includes creatin' a feelin' fer yer readers. What do ye want yer readers t' feel when they land on yer blog: warmth, excitement, happiness, or liveliness? And hoist the mainsail! Your colors, font, logo, and content will help t' create th' feelin' ye wish t' portray.
By decidin' on yer attributes, determinin' how ye want t' be recognized – colors, font, and logo – and consistently portrayin' yer brand, people will begin t' expect th' same from ye and will remember ye. And if ye can get them t' remember ye, yer blog content, and th' wares ye are marketin', then there is a greater possibility they will want what ye are offerin' and will get it. And swab the deck! Aarrr! And that, me matey, is th' goal o' brandin'.
