Every now and again a new online craze seems to come out of nowhere and grab a hold of us. First it was Facebook and Myspace, then Twitter, and now we have Pinterest. Pinterest is more than just an online social media outlet – it is a virtual pin board that has turned into quite the phenomenon declaring Pin-aholics everywhere. (We even have boards set up for Social Moms).
Pinterest gives you the ability to “pin” any and every photo/image you want, by saving and organizing all your favorites things onto your own personal pin boards on the web.
For the Individual
Why should you be on Pinterest? Because Pinterest allows you to follow friends and family from other online sources, you can easily share content in a whole new way. You are able to find and follow new people based solely on interests you have in common. Pinterest is connecting people from all over the world in one place by letting us pin, follow, like, and comment.
Pinterest can be used as a way to simply browse and pass time, or it can be used to gather information, ideas, recipes, and inspiration to quickly and easily help you plan for anything-from party ideas to weddings-to what to wear or what to make for dinner.
For the Entrepreneur
If you are looking to use Pinterest in a way other than for recreational use, it is a great way to get your pictures and content viral on the web. Thus being another great social media opportunity for bloggers and business owners alike.
Real Simple told Adage, “Pinterest is a huge source from a referral standpoint, even beating out referrals from Facebook in the month of October.”
Pinterest is perfect for those companies who are either selling products (on Etsy, eBay, or on your own personal website) – or who create content around photo-based articles (crafts, recipes, fashion, entertainment, etc). By pinning your photos, your followers can quickly decide whether to view your content and re-pin it to their own audience.
We’d love to hear how you’re using Pinterest, and please check out our boards for SocialMoms.
