While having business savvy is important for experiencing success in a home business, your personality is really the foundation that your entire business rests on. It is your personality that will make the difference in whether you get traffic, generate contacts, retain readers, entice joint venture (JV) partners or build a successful home business. This is the reason why some entrepreneurs will succeed using certain tactics and strategies while others will completely fail using those same techniques. The reason?

Personality.

There are so many ways your personality affects your business, it’s hard to see its full impact. However, here are the top four areas of business your personality will affect:

Your Readers

If you are a blogger, your personality is really going to play a large role in how your readers perceive you. When people decide whether or not they like your site and your content, it’s going to be due in large part to your personality.

Some people relate well with people who have strong, confident personalities. Others gravitate to people with more of an expert, professional persona. Still others love the casual, funny and off the cuff style. Your personality will determine your readership in a large part. This is why it’s important to be sure that the type of people you are targeting will mesh with your personality.

Your Prospective Customers or Clients

How your prospective customer or client will relate to you is also greatly influenced by your personality. How you interact with them will determine if they can trust you in general, as well as your products or services.

How are you perceived?  Do people perceive you as generous? If so, they’re more likely to be generous towards you. Do people feel like you’re trustworthy? Can they rely on you? If so, they’re more likely to buy from you.

Potential JV Partners

In the blogging and online marketing world, forming joint ventures with like-minded partners can really catapult your blog or business.  Potential partners will also look to your personality to decide whether or not they want to work with you on various projects. Remember the saying: “All else being equal, people do business with people they like. All else not being equal, people still do business with people they like.”

This applies to all kinds of partnership relationships. It applies to finding sponsors or advertisers as well as getting blogging or business partners. No matter what kind of personality you have, it helps to have a smile. Even if your style is sarcastic, adding a smile can make partners much more likely to want to work with you.

Your Social Network

Your personality has a huge influence on how your social community will relate to you. Will they feel as if they can pour out their real concerns to you? Or will they be afraid to be honest? Will they joke with you? Or will they feel you’re too stiff to have fun with?  Will they feel compelled to promote you to others? Or will they share your faults the first chance they get?

When building your social network, be sure to be honest, appropriately open, giving and kind. Look for ways to sincerely help others and you’ll find that they’ll look for ways to help you back.

Personality runs everything in business. It’s the crux of your customer interactions, the key to partnership deals, the secret to winning your readers’ loyalty and the #1 tool in building an engaged social community. By becoming a person who treats others as you would want to be treated, and one who builds trusting relationships, you increase your chances of building a successful home business.
