Congratulations to Little Tech Girl: the SocialMoms Blog of the Week!

Kris Cain is a Chicago area mom to 2 sets of twins, photography nut, gadget addict, web designer, and blogger who has worked in IT for over 13 years. She’s also one of our contributors and we’re happy to feature her as our blog of the week and chat about her website.

SM: What was your inspiration for starting Little Tech Girl?

I actually started my blog as a fluke. I was not out to start a blog at all. I had been dabbling in web design and already designing HTML sites. When I heard about this new “blogging software” I wanted to check it out. I started testing Drupal, Movable Type, and WordPress. I liked WP best and stuck with it. I put up a few posts and really just let it sit for quite a while. One day I logged in and noticed that I had comments and said to myself “Hey! Someone is actually reading this.” I was blogging about my love of technology, so it was a natural fit. I stuck with it and now I am hooked and I love what I do.

SM: What has most surprised you about running the site?

What has surprised me the most is that my site has taken off the way it has, and led to so many other things. I feel like I have learned a lot. Who knew that just being a geek would one day be considered cool. ?

SM: What are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about blogging about what I live which is technology. I don’t blog about everything that I see. I don’t accept every opp. I have to actually want to write about it.

SM: What is the most popular section of your site?

Well the whole site is about technology. But, I would say the most popular section is probably the gadget reviews. People love looking for new products to check out. I have written reviews about computers, cameras, iPhone apps, and much more. I make sure that each review is honest. I never write just a glowing review on request. I am honest and I give pros and cons on every review if applicable.

SM: What is your favorite part of blogging?

Honestly my favorite part of blogging does not have much to do with the blog. It has do do with the connections made offline. I have met some awesome people and I have a ton of new friends because of blogging. And I have had the opportunity to work with several great companies on campaigns and trips that I never would have been able to experience before.

SM: Do you have any blogging resolutions for the new year?

I have tons of blogging resolutions for the New Year. Over the past few years while blogging I never had the time to dedicate to it like I wanted because I worked a full time job. I recently had a change of employment and now I have the time to dedicate to what I really want to do. I plan to expand my blogging horizons and my businesses. And to accomplish this I quite a to do list.

Here are a few of my resolutions:

  • Blog more often
  • Meet deadlines
  • Generate more blogging income
  • Guest post more
  • Comment more on other sites
  • Use skills learned from blogging to help others

Sharing is caring!
