Pantone announced that Radiant Orchid is the color for 2014, but it’s the shades of blue that reign supreme right now. Blue is the symbol for winter months, while still allowing you to stay upbeat and practical. The just-released Pantone shades Placid Blue and Dazzling Blue add both cheer and classic style to your day, especially when it comes to your wardrobe:
Dazzling Designer Blues
When the cold months roll in we want to hunker down and pull on a pair of tried and true blue jeans. Denim is here to stay and in many shades of blue. Everything from denim vests, jackets and jeans are great for this time of year and totally in fashion. The crispness of a menswear-inspired button-down shirt under a sweater or paired with pants is a chic statement. A denim jacket over your cable knit sweater helps keep Old Man Winter at bay. Distressed, ripped, tailored, dark rinse or light wash, it doesn’t matter. Yes, even overalls are sticking around for another season.
Remember that you can still play up your cobalt blue items from season’s past and add the old-standby navy blue. Both look great with black while breaking fashion rules of days gone by. Pair navy with any color of the rainbow and like black, it just looks good. It flatters every complexion too. Don’t forget that a pair of bright blue flats or pumps adds panache and pop to an otherwise laid-back or drab look. It will make you feel downright kicky once you try it.

Did you know that the indigo plant helps fight inflammation? Don’t be surprised if you see shades of blue popping up in your local beauty and skincare department in the next few months. The ancient medicinal plant soothes irritated skin and can be found in many products rolling into stores right now. Eye creams, renewing skincare treatments and even sunscreen are getting in on the blue trend.
Marc by Marc Jacobs showed off vibrant blue eyes shadowed in high pigment color and nails in the same stunning high shine lacquer, Stunning Blue. A great way to punch up your daily look is to add a dash of these hues. A swipe of blue liner makes eyes look brighter while blue nails add a pop of color to a conservative outfit. Shiseido got into the game by showing off Shimmering Eye Cream in Ice, a gleaming blue that sets off the eyes.
Whichever way you decide to wear it blue in any shade, be it dazzling or placid, looks good on everyone and in endless ways.
