New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and whether you’re celebrating at a big bash or hosting an intimate get-together at home, it’s the one night of the year where sparkle is always appropriate.  Even if you normally shun sequins, you really should reconsider – at least this once. After all, if you can’t shine on NYE, when can you? Take a read through the descriptions below – from shimmer-shy to all-out-dazzle – and figure out which one works best for you.

Sheen

If you’re a little glitter-shy, this is the option for you. Put on your LBD and add some much needed dazzle by sporting it on your nails. A great option is Essie’s nail polish in Silver Bullions. If you’re too busy getting ready for the night and don’t have time to wait for polish to set and dry then try Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips. They are easy to use –  you simply peel and stick. So you can get your gold on with the shade “Glitz Blitz” with no drying time required. And – it stays on until you take it off with nail polish remover. Promise.

Shimmer

You’re not afraid of glamming it up now and again and are willing to go the extra mile for a special night out. For NYE, take it up a notch by opting for a skirt or top with some serious bling. Or if you’re feeling really daring, try sequined short shorts. Pair them with leggings and your gams will take center stage. And, don’t forget those mile-high shoes. Just don’t plan on walking anywhere. Cabs are a must.

Shine

You love sparkle and you aren’t afraid to show it. You sometimes think you were a magpie in a past life.  You already wear metallics in your day-to-day wardrobe, so for NYE, you really want to take it to the next level. The best option for you? A sequined mini dress. Sleeveless or not, you will glow.  If you’re self-conscious about your legs, pair it with opaque tights and platform heels (tonight is not the night for sensible shoes).

Are you ready to get your glimmer on? A little word of warning, once you go down this road, it’s hard to go back. Maybe you should make it a resolution to be more adventurous in your style for 2012 – starting with sequins.
