When you think of spring and summer, visions of bright, sunny citrus-infused colors often swim across your mind. Pantone agrees. They’ve revealed 17-1463 Tangerine Tango as the color for Spring/Summer 2012. This juicy color works great in each make-up category, despite its apparent boldness. Don’t be scared. Here are some tips on how to use Tangerine Tango to update your make-up this spring and summer season.

Lips

Lips are the perfect place to be daring with tangerine. Red is a hot lip color, and orange is its super trendy sister. Put them together and you have a gorgeous tone that looks great on all skin tones. Make it matte or satin, tangerine works either way. Add a clear gloss for a dose of shine. Sephora has teamed up with Pantone and created its own tangerine crème lipstick and a translucent tangerine gloss just for this season. Nars semi-matte lipstick in Heat Wave and Revlon renewist lipstick color # 235 in Tangerine are also great.

Eyes

The eyes have it, even with bright tangerine. First, apply a wash of a tangerine color eyeshadow on both of your eyelids. Next, build with other neutral shadow shades like taupe or a soft brown for shading. Add a thin line of black liner and apply a coat or two of mascara. Your tangerine eye is complete and the shadow is muted and perfect for day time. Some of my favorite tangerine-colored eye shadows are Make Up Forever’s Tangerine #18 and Sephora’s Tangerine eyeshadow quad. This perfect mix contains the bright tangerine color, a neutral base shadow, and a separate dark shadow for accenting or as a liner.

Cheeks

For a great glow or burst of color you can’t go wrong with tangerine blush on the cheeks. It looks wonderful on all skin tones. Just remember that the fairer the skin tone, the lighter the shade of tangerine you can safely use on your face. You don’t want to look like a clown. Burberry Tangerine blush is the perfect subtle blush for lighter skin that adds a pretty glow. Tangerine Tint by Lancôme looks amazing on darker skin tones.

Tangerine is a vibrant color but it can be used in a variety of ways. Play up your lips, showcase your eyes, or swipe on a dose of sunny bright color for that extra on-trend glow.
