Allergies can be rough this time of year.  Your body’s hypersensitive reactions to the floating elements in the environment are no fun on your internal functions. Sadly, your outward appearance can’t catch a break either. All the days of itchy, watery eyes and runny nose are bad enough but throw in the puffy under-eye dark circles, dry skin that begs to be scratched and red nose and you just want to hibernate. Don’t let seasonal allergies ruin your make-up job. Take action and blow that over-pollinated reaction into the wind.

First Things First

In order to maximize your makeup, take these necessary precautions in fighting those allergies.

  1. Hydrate and drink all the water you can first thing in the morning and keep flushing yours system throughout the day.
  2. Use a makeup primer on your face and on your eyes (a separate eye makeup primer is best) so that make-up stays put no matter how much itching, scratching or nose blowing you do that day.
  3. Be sure to take your allergy medicine with your morning vitamins. Whether it is nasal spray or a pill or both don’t walk out the door before protecting yourself from the hairy hay fever mutants.
  4. Add a drop or two of anti-red eye drops. A formula that fights itching is ideal.

Allergy Aid

Get ready to take on the day, look great and be beauty-wise!

  1. Your skin dries out quickly when taking allergy medications. Stay moisturized from the top of your head to your toes.
  2. Grab a stick of concealer to hide those dark circles and puffy eyes.
  3. Add a swipe of bronzer to your hairline, cheekbones and jawline to lessen the look of a swollen face.
  4. Blush the apples of your cheeks for further enhancement and to detract from swelling.
  5. Watery eyes with mascara are just a mess. Use a waterproof mascara to eliminate the smudging, raccoon-like mess.

Last Minute Tips

In addition, to concealing and covering the effects that allergies can have on your face, there are other ways to combat the symptoms.

  1. Ditch the hair gel. Put it back in the bathroom cabinet for a while. The sticky hair product can hold onto pollen and mold spores and keep irritating you throughout your day. Not to mention getting into your sheets when you lay your sweet head down at night.
  2. You gotta wear shades! Even on the overcast spring days a pair of sunglasses will help block out the airborne irritants that travel straight into your eyes. Keep your shades handy to help stop itchy, red and watery eyes.
