Fall is here and it’s time to start thinking about transitioning those makeup looks from summer dew to dramatic autumn. Here’s the makeup trends for Fall 2014:

The Eyes Have It

The warmer months with their sultry air leave little need for dramatic eyes. When the cold winds blow in fall and winter it is a whole other story. This year we see a big play on definition. Feel free to wing it out in a bold cat eye or use mascara to pull out individual lashes into a pieced-out spidery look.

Fall is a great time to play with bright colors. Everything from electric blue and emerald-green rocked the runways and will be downplayed but still in effect on the rest of us mere mortals. For night use a smudge of metallic color in white or silver at the innermost corner of the eye to stand out. Smudges of dark, black liner can go on thick and wide or work with brown hues for another round of fall smokey eyes .

Play up brows with a bit of gloss by combing them into place with clear gloss mascara. The look is polished with some edge. A spot of gel will do in a pinch with a bit of clear lip gloss added over it once the gel has dried.

Less is More Lips

The lips take a backseat to the eyes this year except when it comes to that gorgeous shade of red. Vibrant, full of fire and sometimes darkened for effect the fire-engine red rules the color palette this fall and winter season. If red is not your scene then stick with a soft nude or beige gloss or creamy lipstick for both day and night.

Fashion Forward Face

The glow of summer skin is still with us and won’t be leaving any time soon. Break out the exfoliates and prepare to swipe on your heavier moisturizer because fall/winter 2014 skin is all about radiance. Barely there make-up will be big this year and without a lot of shine. It’s not matte but a natural nod to the fact that our complexions don’t produce much oil this time of year. Blush is at a minimum with a soft flush on the apples of the cheeks. The overall effect is a face that allows the eyes to take center stage.

New Hue Nails

One trend that can’t be denied is this year’s desire to match our nails to our eye shadow. Remember those peacock blues and greens we talked about before? Well, they work on your tips too. When it comes to manicures ask for something like Essie’s Going Incognito for a deep, cream green to match those precious peepers.

Are you still an ardent fan and Pinterest-lover when it comes to nail art? It’s here for another round.  This time there are many half-moons left bare and showing a deep red, black or brown hue on the rest of the nail.
