April 18, 2012

I don’t know about you, but I love sharing my career with my children. They love telling their friends that mommy is an author, and my ten-year-old knows how to edit a chapter better than some of my critique partners! I’m lucky enough to work at home, but many parents head to the office to work. Once a year, on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day (Thursday, April 26th), parents are encouraged to bring their kids to the office. It’s a great way to spend time together, and it also offers children an opportunity to think about career options. You get the chance to show off exactly what you do, the skills you use, and give your children yet another reason to look up to you.

The theme for 2012 is “Build Opportunity: 20 Years of Education, Empowerment, Experience.”  And more than 37 million youth and adults are expected to participate at over 3.5 million workplaces this year. For tips on planning your day, activities for your children, and to learn more about the program, head over to the foundation’s website.

While celebrating this experience with your children, why not share lunch together too? Olive Garden is the place to celebrate special moments with family and friends, so it’s no surprise that they are providing families a special offer. Anyone who is taking a child to work on Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® Day can enjoy a lunch break or dinner at Olive Garden! Receive one free children’s menu item (for a child under 12) for every adult entrée purchased on Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® Day.
