Everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! But some places know how to celebrate better than others. If you’re looking to celebrate the saint who taught the Holy Trinity with a little help from a shamrock, here are five places that promise a St. Patrick’s Day celebration to remember.

Spend St. Patrick’s Day in the U.S. city with the most Irish-Americans. Boston stands as the city with the most Irish-Americans in the U.S. so it’s no surprise that St. Patrick’s Day draws more than 600,000 visitors annually. Boston hosted America’s first St. Patrick’s Day celebration in 1737 and its long-established St. Patrick’s Day parade is perhaps the nation’s best. Plus Boston boasts more Irish pubs than any other place in the USA so the party continues into the wee hours and beyond.
Watch the Chicago River turn emerald green in honor of St. Patrick. Few cities celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the fervor of Chicagoans. Every year, the Chicago River gets dyed a vibrant green by the city’s plumber’s union and the city’s Irish American Heritage Center hosts an annual, large-scale, family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day party featuring traditional and contemporary Irish music and dance, fun kids’ activities, an arts and crafts fair, and good eats, too. Founded by employees of the original location in Dublin, Kitty O’Sheas at the Hilton Chicago offers an ‘Old Ireland’ experience as the city’s unofficial St. Patty’s after-party – bagpipers and all – alongside favorites such as potato leek soup, pretzels with Guinness mustard, corned beef & cabbage, and more.
Celebrate St. Pat in one of the top five most Irish towns in America. Finger Lakes, New York stands out as of the top five most Irish towns in America and its annual “green Mardi Gras” promises to be a St. Patty’s Day to remember. The party begins when an 18-wheeler filled with green beer provided by Coleman’s Authentic Irish Pub (featuring a separate entrance & phone booth for leprechauns!) rolls into town. Look out for the country’s only upside down traffic light, inverted to symbolize the “Irish green” over “British red.”
Forget Dublin, Ireland and head to Dublin, Ohio for a festive Blarney Bash. Dublin, Ohio plays host to a fabulous day of St. Patrick’s fun. The fun starts with the Dublin Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast then kicks off with the greenest, grandest St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Blarney Bash is the biggest party of all, with Irish food, entertainment, and plenty of blarney and beer to go around. Dublin restaurants, shops and pubs will be lively with entertainment and specials throughout the day.
Bicycle Ireland. VBT Bicycling and Walking Vacations offers unforgettable bicycle tours through the country’s stunning landscaping. Follow in the footsteps of St. Patrick as you explore the emerald isle, from the Cliffs of Moher to the the Aran Islands.
