Now that you’re done shopping the best back to school clothes deals it’s time to take a look at your own closet.  Do you have any basic pieces from the summer than can transition you seamlessly into a stylish fall?  I bet you do!  If in doubt, just keep reading. We have the best and brightest to kick off your fall with some real flair!

The Chambray Shirt

Oh yes, it the chambray is here to stay for another season. It can be worn with white shorts, jeans or a skirt in the warm months and then worked into the fall and winter when paired with jewel-toned or dark jeans or cords. The Chambray can be dressed up (break out the statement necklace!) or down and worn on the weekends or even the office. It is one of the most versatile pieces you can own right now.

Playful Prints

Remember all those little birds flitting about your shirt this summer? As long as it isn’t a nautical set of whales, lobsters or seahorses you can keep rockin’ that bold print look. Play up stripes, geometric patterns and keep wearing the windowpane prints. They work well with denim skirts or jeans, fitted trousers and wide-leg pants. Layer a blazer or cardigan over that wild design to downplay it at the office or under a canvas jacket on the weekend. Even sleeveless versions of dresses or blouses last longer when layered. Don’t forget to include plaid in this realm of crazy print. A pair of plaid flats, slip on sneakers, or a lightweight button down blouse can be worn during all types of weather and add texture to your look.

Sweet Silhouettes

There are many items you can re-work and use to expand your fall collection of clothes. Take the loose peasant blouse you wore all summer and pair it with slim fitted pants for warmth and a new dimension. Add a belted cardigan and pair of booties to your favorite maxi dress to extend its term. Mix a short skirt you love with a set of tall boots. Grab that full, fun skirt you love and aren’t ready to give up and add a quarter-length or long sleeve top instead of that crop.

Striped Sweaters

It may seem like the striped sweater is only good for all things nautical and summertime fun, but that is where you are wrong. A long-sleeve version of the striped sweater or shirt can work all year long. Layered under sweaters and blazers, for sure, but on cool fall evenings it can extend the life of your favorite dressy shorts or skirt or create a classic look with boyfriend jeans.
