Summertime and the living is easy, except for your skin. You know your largest living organ needs TLC in the cold, winter months but it also needs care beyond your face in the summer months too. It’s not just sunscreen and sun damage that can wreak havoc on the skin. It’s the chlorine, humidity and heat that can turn relaxation time into frustration. Take charge and take care of your skin for a summer that is cool and protected.

Dry skin in the summer is very real.

All that time spent in the water on the beach with the salt soaking into your dermis, compiled with the chlorine from the pool, dries skin out fast. Relieve the tight feeling by showering less. Yes, I said it.  Shower once a day and don’t forget to exfoliate twice a week. Removing the dry, dead skin cells will open up your skin to receiving and keeping moisture in longer and that means supple skin. Use a creamy cleanser for added moisture and hydration. Apply a lotion after rinsing off from the pool too.

Razor rash is a reality in the summer. 

We shave more and in more sensitive areas. Cut back on the red bumps also known as folliculitis, an inflammation of the hair follicles, by following these steps.

  1. Clean up with an antibacterial soap first and avoid any heavy, strongly fragrance lotions that will irritate skin.
  2. Find a redness relief moisturizer to combat the problem. No one wants to do the work and then not be able to play.
  3. Pick up a hair remover lotion for the bikini area to avoid painful red bumps. Simply apply and rinse off. All that is left is a smooth bikini area without the red shaving bumps.

Summer acne is no joke.

We want to wear less make-up and look more natural but when a break out occurs we have to fight the urge to pile on the concealer that can also melt off. Fight summer breakouts this way.

  1. First, pick up a noncomedogenic sunscreen that won’t clog your pores. Apply to a clean face first thing in the morning. When it is time to reapply use a facial wipe to sop up the excess oil that can irritate the skin.
  2. For a body breakout, especially on the back, your go to cleanser should contain benzoyl peroxide. Use it each time you shower and don’t forget to take it to the gym or if you shower at the pool.
