Ladies it is time to shake it up. Nails are a quick, gorgeous way to accessorize and update your look on an ever-changing basis. It is affordable too. This fall there are some serious stunners in the nail polish world. From the deepest blues to the Pantone-approved emerald greens and all the reds in between – there is a shade that is sure to please.

Rich Reds

Say good-bye to summer’s cheery and cherry-inspired reds. This season it is all about the dark burgundy and oxblood hues. Just like the clothes on the catwalk these two shades are well, red hot. Prime examples are the metallic Jasper red by Jin Soon or the beautiful Bordeaux by Essie. A sharper, glossier shade without the metallic infusion is Marc Jacobs, Jezebel. All guaranteed to make you feel like you can take on the world.

Navy Blues

Essie School Boy Blazer blue is having its day. The deep navy shade is gracing the pages and posts of major magazines and all manner of fashion and beauty blogs. A bit brighter with a cream base it looks great for day and night. Need something darker and more brooding? Try Estee Lauder’s Midnight Metal or China Glaze Tongue & Chic for a dose of shimmer and shine.

Seeing Green

Emerald green is the designated color of the year. Unfortunately, it can look like St. Patrick’s Day on your nails if you go a shade too light with this particular green. It is a solvable problem to be sure. Check out Chanel Alchimie for a glittering gold-infused lacquer that instantly brightens up any outfit. A creamy dark khaki green shade called Mysterious also by Chanel is a lovely muted hit. For more oomph on the tips the sparkly Laughin To The Bank by Deborah Lippman is a top pick.

Black in Black

Remember the days when celebs like Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie were all about the black nail polish. Chanel couldn’t keep Black Satin in stock and soon enough other high shine shades were available at drugstores and make-up counters everywhere. It’s back! Black, that noir-inspired color is gracing fingertips in shades with shine or a matte topcoat. Union Jack Black by Butter London is a crowd pleaser just like Black Onyx by OPI. Essie For The Twill Of It is has an oil slick sheen that shimmers and plays off the light to reveal greens, blues, purples and metallic black depending on the light. It is the “it” nail polish this fall. When wearing black nail polish it is important to keep nails a bit longer than the nail bed and in a rounded square (squoval) shape. Anything shorter and the effect is cheap and bordering on adolescent angst.
