I don’t know about you, but this winter seems to be destroying my skin! It’s dry and cracked, and my forehead seems to be showing even more wrinkles than normal. Here are some winter beauty tips to help keep your skin hydrated and looking it’s absolute best.

Drink Water

I’m absolutely horrible about drinking water. I don’t know why, because once I start, I can actually feel my body craving it. While there’s no scientific proof that drinking water helps cure dry skin, it certainly can’t hurt. Try warm water with lemon if it’s just too cold for an iced drink.

Humidify

That heater definitely dries out the air, so consider installing a humidifier (or several) in your home to replenish the moisture in the air.

Avoid the Hot Water

When it’s cold out, I love to jump in a very hot shower and warm my skin. Unfortunately, it’s not the best idea when you’re skin is already dry and cracking. Hot water strips your skin of essential oils and moisture. If you can tolerate a lukewarm bath or shower, do that. Or at the very least, take a cold rinse at the end of your shower and hop out. And try to keep the shower under five minutes max!

Moisturize

Moisturizing is extremely important. As soon as you leave the bath, slather your skin with lotion, the faster the better. Applying moisturizer to wet skin helps seal in the dampness. Keep a bottle near the shower and the sink for after you wash your hands.

Exfoliate

You may feel like your skin is already shedding layers by peeling and cracking, but exfoliating gets rid of the dry outer layers of skin. Find an exfoliating mask that works for your face, hands, and lips, and then moisturize as soon as you’re done!

Protect Your Hands

Your hands are exposed to a lot of sun and air, and the skin there is thinner than on most parts of your body. It’s hard to keep your hands moist but if you wear gloves, especially when you’re outside, this will help. Wearing rubber gloves while washing dishes can prevent hands from getting dried out from the hot water, too.

Protect Your Hair

Skin isn’t the only thing that gets dry in the winter. Your hair does too. Try shampooing less often, because shampoo strips moisture from your scalp and hair. Make sure to use conditioner afterwards—or consider skipping the shampoo entirely and just scrubbing with conditioner!

Protect Your Lips

My lips are unbelievably dry during the winter. I can’t put on lip balm fast enough! If lips are flaky, you can take a clean toothbrush and gently remove dry, excess skin. For very chapped lips, try coconut oil, lanolin, or Vaseline.

Use the Right Products

I recently discovered an amazing set of products that work great for winter skincare. The Dermaclara line is perfect because it offers steps for cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing (and contains anti-aging ingredients, too). I absolutely love the massaging clarapulse with the cream cleanser. My skin felt immediately soft and smooth to the touch, after even the first use. The clarasome moisturizer for your face and claralips collagen-infused lip serum was amazing for exfoliation and volume. And the clarafuse silicon pads for wrinkles are so helpful! The concept is that they gently lift, smooth, and pull the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. I immediately saw results and can’t wait to try them for longer periods of time.

Dermaclara provided the products for me to try, but all opinions are my own.
