Spring arrives next week, but the temperatures might still be chilly in your area. Here in Vermont, we won’t really see spring-like weather until sometime during the end of April or the beginning of May.

Of course, spring fashion is in abundance in the stores already, and I cannot wait to lighten my wardrobe for warmer weather. Thankfully, there are several ways you can enjoy spring clothes even when the weather is still cool.

Add a Layer on Top

You’re dying to wear that cute spring dress, but the light-weight material or short sleeves will leave you cold outdoors. Why not layer a cardigan on top? Choose a spring color knit like white, pink, or mint green so you can pair it with many spring outfits and still stay warm.

If a cardigan is too heavy or bulky for your favorite spring outfit, you can still add warmth by layering on a denim blouse or jacket.  Chambray shirts are very on trend this spring so this would be a great alternative.

Add Spring Colors

If you aren’t quite ready to put away your winter jacket or heavy sweaters this early in the season, you can add spring colors by wearing a soft pastel shirt underneath. Pastels and white accessories will help soften your winter look.

Break Out the Light Color Jeans

One of the easiest ways to lighten your outfit is by wearing white jeans. You can wear your favorite cable knit sweater, a denim jacket and a pair of white ankle jeans or leggings for a fun springtime look.

White not your color? Try a pale pink, bright yellow, or lavender pair of pants or jeans.

Accessorize With Pastels

Lighten your look with spring accessories. Choose a chunky pastel necklace or a floral scarf to keep your neck warm. A pastel leather handbag can brighten any outfit or look for fun new spring prints.

Wear Sandals

You can wear strappy sandals with almost any outfit—from a dressy pair of black slacks to an A-line dress or pencil skirt. Experiment until you find a look that you love.

Try Color Blocking

If you’re not quite ready to wear an all-pink dress this year, try wearing a color-blocked dress with white, black and pink. Your outfit will look more spring-like than solid black or grey.

Wear Leggings or Tights

If you really want to wear that spring dress but the thought of bare legs is just too much for you to handle this early in the season, try wearing your favorite tights or leggings underneath. You’ll appreciate the added warmth and still look springy.

How will you be bringing spring to your wardrobe?
