Sequins are white hot right now and this is the perfect time of year to add some sparkle to your day.  Don’t be daunted by the gorgeous glittering of a sequin skirt and don’t wait for that holiday party or special occasion. You can rock this look on a daily basis. Yes, really. While absolutely gorgeous and spot on for that office party, neighborhood potluck or girls’ night out – it’s also perfectly acceptable to wear out on your everyday outing.

Everyday Sparkle

Stop rolling your eyes and listen to me. Enough thinking about prom dresses from years gone by.  Today sequins adorn purses, collars on shirts, shoes and embellish sweaters all the time.  Those areas are small or help accessorize a look.  Think of your sequin skirt that way too.  You can take it to the everyday level by doing it two ways:

  1. Get classically chic and pair a solid colored turtleneck (basic black or white is ideal) with the skirt.  Add  some thick tights that match the turtleneck and a pair of understated black boots or booties.  Keep earrings simple with a pair of studs and work in a cuff bracelet or gold bangle bracelets.
  2. The sequin skirt is a great way to add some zip to your daily round of errands.  Like the classic look, use the most basic items to play down the skirt.  Simple ballet flats in neutral or brights work beautifully when matched with a basic tee.  Throw on a scarf for those chilly moments and you are ready for the day.

Vintage Casual

If you’re looking for a more casual look, try pairing the skirt with a denim jacket.  Add a pair of thick tights (girl has to stay warm), a set of cowboy boots or converse style sneakers, an array of beaded bracelets and head out the door.  Switch it up and wear the skirt with a plaid shirt versus a tee under that denim jacket.  You can also keep the cold at bay by wearing a beanie.  A satchel or messenger bag completes the look.

Monochromatic Texture

The basic black sequin skirt has met its match when you wear it with a black button down and layer a black crew neck sweater and stockings with it.  Satin pumps or simple black heels add some understated glamour.  Show off rolled cuffs on your shirt over the sweater or play it safe and wear them buttoned.  Throw on a velvet blazer or fur vest to create a texturized look and leave it at that.

The sequin skirt isn’t so scary now, is it?  Play around with it; pull things from your wardrobe and experiment.  You just might find your new favorite outfit for the upcoming winter season.
