Writing great content requires great thinking. And great thinking requires a healthy mind. So how do you create and maintain a healthy mind? When you need to break through writer’s block, try these 6 surprising tips for developing a healthy mind and getting your writing mojo back:

#1 – Eat to write. There’s a close relationship between your mind and eating. As you know, your mind, or brain, is the organ that controls the whole body. In order for the various other parts of the body to be healthy, the brain must be in a healthy state too. And to have a healthy brain, the blood that flows into the brain must have all the nourishment it needs and none of the impurities it doesn’t need.

Choose healthy foods that feed the brain, like fruits, whole grains, nuts and vegetables. Barring any allergies, good wholesome food helps to strengthen the body, giving good pure blood for the brain.

#2 – Stop before you have to.  Overeating can make the body and the mind sluggish. Our bodies can use no more than what is required to sustain life. By giving it more than it needs, we risk tiring the body and weakening our mind. It’s hard to think clearly when the stomach is overworked and the body is weary.

#3 – Take a break. Not only does your mind need a break, so does your stomach.  Failing to give your digestive system a break in between meals can also overwork the body and slow down your thinking. Think of the process of digestion as someone running around a track non-stop. Without any rest, they will soon collapse. By allowing the stomach time to rest, you can improve your health and bring serenity to your mind.

#4 – Plan your meals in reverse. Try eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, and dinner like a pauper. Having your largest meal for breakfast, when your stomach is in a better state to handle more food, will fuel your day, help speed up your metabolism, and give you a clearer mind. A smaller meal in the evening will leave you feeling less tired and sluggish at the end of the day.

#5 – Start with the title. Generally, writers think of their topic first, perhaps create a rough outline and then think of a catchy title. If you’re finding it hard to come up with topics, try doing a “brain dump.” Set your timer for 15 minutes and write down as many headlines you can think of – How To’s, Top 10 Lists, etc. There are many free fill-in-the-blanks headline templates available online which are easily found through an internet search.

#6 – Get inspired by shopping on Amazon – If you need a little extra inspiration for creating catchy titles, try “window shopping” on Amazon or other bookstores. Search on the book topics relating to your subject matter, and make a list of best-selling titles. You can use this information as a template for your headlines, rewording them to fit your needs.
