After the carefree summer months, it can be difficult to go back to the structure of back-to-school and our other workaday routines. You may find that you could use a little time to recharge and relax. There are many ways that you could spend your weekend—why not try a yoga retreat? Here are some reasons you should consider it!

1. You’ll Up Your Yoga Game

Whether you are a beginner or have been practicing for years, a weekend dedicated to yoga will definitely improve your skills. In addition to pushing your body to expand its limits, trying new poses, and growing spiritually, you will also be able to go home with some bragging rights—and isn’t that what the zen life is all about?

2. You’ll Get the Chance to Meditate

How many of us say we are going to meditate and then end up using precious downtime to check our phones, go over our to-do lists, or even take a little nap? At your retreat you will be in a calming environment that encourages mediation. Make a point of meditating every day while on retreat, and continue this routine once you get home.

3. Unplug From Technology

We are bombarded by technology 24/7. Even sit-down family restaurants are peppered with television screens these days. While there are many benefits associated with our gadgets, we all need regular technology breaks.  In fact, regular breaks will help us develop a healthier relationship with technology. A yoga retreat is a great opportunity to press the reset button, and to see the world through our own eyes instead of gazing at a screen.

4. Better Food Choices

Many yoga retreats are all-inclusive, and offer meals as part of the package, much like a vacation at a beach resort. Instead of poolside margaritas and all-you-can-eat buffets, however, retreat meals tend to be all-natural and focus on nourishing the body rather than simply filling your stomach. You’ll learn about nutrition and healthy eating, and can incorporate this knowledge into your regular diet when you get home. Food for thought!

5. Reflect on Your Life

It’s hard to be reflective when you are immersed in your day-to-day life. It’s so much easier to take inventory from afar. For this reason, a yoga retreat is a great opportunity to think about your everyday existence and identify what is working and what needs to change. You may be surprised by how much perspective you gain just by having the opportunity to breathe.

If you think a yoga retreat sounds frivolous or self-indulgent, consider that it will not only do wonders for your mental and emotional well-being, it will also strengthen your body. And who couldn’t benefit from that?
