My husband recently put together a play yard for the kids outside. We wanted to create a fence around the playground but didn’t want to purchase and use new wood. Instead, we wanted to find reclaimed or used wood that would work for a sturdy yet fashionable fence. This is when we ran into the idea of making our fence out of old pallets.

Using old pallets will make your craft or project almost free and you will be helping Mother Nature by reusing an item that would have been discarded. Many manufacturing plants will give you pallets for free, all you need to do is ask. We received all our pallets for our fence free of charge, all that was needed was some elbow grease from my husband.

This got me thinking about all the other fantastic uses for old pallets. Here are just a few of the amazing ways you can reuse old pallets in your home.

This is a standard pallet that has been painted and hung on the wall as a clothes and purse rack. This is a fashionable way to hand your items without breaking your bank. All you would need is one pallet, a little paint, and some nails or hooks for hanging items.

Here is a set of fancy wall shelving that can come free of charge. Hang the pallet on the wall with the bottom facing outward. You can then fill it with trinkets, photos, or anything under the sun. You can paint it or leave the wood natural for a custom look.

We have talked about vertical gardening and pallets are perfect vertical gardening companions. All you will need are about four pallets. You can paint the wood or leave it natural depending on the look you want to achieve. Next, nail the pallets together to create two panels like above. Add a little soil and plants into each plank area. Then watch your garden grow!

This beautiful headboard was created with pallets. They painted the pallet white to match the room and placed it behind the bed. You can secure it to the wall or to the bed frame very easily with nails or screws.

The wonderful and versatile thing about pallets is their ability to be dismantled. You can separate them into long segments of wood and create just about anything you can imagine. Shelving, wine racks, and end tables – there is really no limit to the types of items that can be made out of old pallets or pallet wood.

We will be using many of these designs in our own home. Which is your favorite? Have you ever used old pallets in your home for décor?
