At-home beauty treatments are an all-natural and less expensive way to look younger, stay refreshed and cleanse your skin. I personally love sugar scrubs for my feet to remove the dry skin and keep them hydrated. They can be very expensive to buy, but they’re easy to make at home with ingredients you have right in your kitchen. And there are other pantry items or foods in your refrigerator that can help your skin and hair. Here are a couple of beauty “recipes” to make your skin smoother and your hair shinier and cleaner.
Sugar Scrub: For Face, Body, and Feet
(Great for all skin types)
- 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (don’t worry, it won’t clog your pores)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/2 cup sugar – white or brown
- In a clean jar, add the extra virgin olive oil, honey and sugar.
- Stir well.
- Once or twice a week, apply this scrub to your face before bed. Apply in a broad, circular motion (avoiding the eye area) for 60 seconds and then rinse off the mixture.
Coconut oil which became a trend in cooking and baking earlier this year, has also become popular in beauty treatment. You can substitute it for any oil. There are so many different ways coconut oil can be used that a whole new article could be written.
Egg White Mask
Eggs can be used for more than just omelets and baking. Moisturize your skin with an egg-white mask rich with vitamins and minerals that will help to tighten pores and minimize blackheads. Whisk one egg white and spread over face. Allow to dry and then rinse.
Tea Bag Eye treatment
Don’t throw away the tea bag after you make yourself a cup of tea. They can help reduce swelling and dark circles under the eyes. Place the used – and cooled down – tea bags over your eyes. Relax for about 15 minutes. Cucumbers are another food that help to reduce puffiness of the eyes.
Oranges help to exfoliate the skin. After you shower, lightly squeeze a fresh orange over your body and massage it in (it might sting a little but that goes away quickly). You can also rest your elbow or heel in an orange or grapefruit half to help soften stubborn rough patches.
Don’t throw away that last overripe banana. Just mash it up and spread it over your face. Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. Bananas are soothing and will moisturize your skin.
Bananas also work magic on dry hair. Mash a ripe banana together with half an avocado and leave on your damp hair for at least 30 minutes. Rinse and your hair will feel silky smooth.
Revive your body and skin naturally using food. Some of the above recipes will also make great holiday gifts to give to teachers or anyone else that you give small gifts to. Just make the product, place in a mason jar (wide mouth is usually better), put the lid on and wrap a ribbon around the jar.
