The process of salvaging wood has been used for centuries. Many companies use the salvaged wood for building material for homes and décor. However, there is a new trend in using salvaged wood in fashion. Companies realize that consumers want beautiful items, but also want to be stewards of our environment. This is where salvaged wood comes into play.

What exactly is salvaged wood? It is wood that is retrieved from dead trees – ones that died naturally. Reclaimed wood is wood taken from old buildings, fencing, or wood previously used for other purposes.

Choosing jewelry and accessories that are made from salvaged or reclaimed wood is great for the environment, but it can also add a little something to your style as well. Check out these creative and fashionable fashion accessories made out of salvaged wood.

Knottycase

Knottycase is a company who has a definite passion for combining sustainability and fashion in the iPhone world. These unique iPhone cases are made from salvaged wood sourced right here in the United States. The cases come in a number of different color combinations and will definitely add a little style to your look.

The cases currently are made from salvaged California Black Oaks and Northern California Walnut trees. The beauty of the wood grain is seen on the cases themselves and because of this each hand-crafted case is completely unique.

Another fantastic thing about Knottycase is their Save the Redwoods initiative. A portion of f your purchase will go towards the planting of an entire grove of beautiful Coast Redwoods through a program created by the Save the Redwoods League.  You can read more about Knottycase’s Redwood initiative here.

Via Nativa

Via Nativa was founded by Alessandra Plasa and Vanesa Natale after they visited Nicaragua and saw all the beautiful jewelry and home décor items that were being produced. They decided to start a fair trade and environmentally friendly business utilizing the talented artisans of Nicaragua.

Much of the jewelry is made from reclaimed or salvaged woods and all artisans are paid fair wages for their production of these beautiful items. My favorites are the assortment of reclaimed wood bangles. The items truly are beautiful and incredibly unique in look. Via Nativa carries necklaces, rings, bracelets, bangles, and earrings along with some hand crafted home décor items.

If you are looking for a statement piece of jewelry, I highly suggest you check out Via Nativa.

Etsy

Etsy is a great place to look for salvaged or reclaimed wood fashion items. There are a number of sellers who carry everything from jewelry to key chains and belts. Simply type salvaged wood into the search box and you will find hundreds of items to choose from.

Salvaged and reclaimed wood fashion accessories are the perfect way to make a fashion statement while preserving Mother Earth. Which item would you be most excited to accessorize with?
