I love my crockpot, and I use it regularly to get a healthy dinner on the table fast. On nights when I work late or have evening meetings, I start dinner in the crockpot in the morning. By evening, there’s a hot, healthy meal ready and I got to spend very little time making it. While cooking is probably the most common way people use their crockpot, it has a few other uses that people may not be aware of.

Soapmaking

I love homemade soap, but it can be rather pricey to buy. Did you know that it’s really easy to make your own homemade soap? Add a melt and pour soap base to your crockpot. After the melt, add fragrance and pour the soap into a mold. Of course, you don’t want to use the same crockpot you make dinner in. Look for a second crockpot at a tag sale for just this purpose.

Simmer Potpourri

I love simmering potpourri. It’s a great way to naturally add fragrance to your home without aerosols. Just toss citrus peels, cinnamon sticks, and cloves into a personal-sized crockpot. Add water and let the mixture heat to release the scent into your home. Make sure you keep an eye on it to be sure the water hasn’t simmered away.

Add Humidity

During the winter, the air in your home can become too dry if you run your furnace regularly. If you don’t have a humidifier, you can easily add humidity to your home with your crockpot. Fill your crockpot about 3/4 with water and heat on hight. Then turn it off and remove the lid. The water will escape into the air as steam.

Heat Towels

Have you ever been handed a heated towel after a sauna or spa? Nothing beats the warm, luxurious feeling that gives. Not everyone has a towel warmer in their home. But, if you roll up two bath towels and add them along with one to two cups of water to your crockpot, you’ll see the same results. Remember, you’re not saturating the towels, just adding a bit of moisture. Keeping it on low for about two hours is just perfect. You can even add a drop or two of essential oil if you like. It’s like having your very own spa at home.

Of course, my favorite use for my crockpot will always be an easy way to make dinner fast. But, it’s good to know that there are other ways I can use my favorite appliance besides by making dinner.
