My family definitely loves their gadgets. Whether it’s the cell phone, iPad, Nintendo DS, or the laptop – we can often be found in the same room but completely disconnected. I’ve been wanting to implement a technology break, and the new Tech Timeout™ challenge from life insurance provider Foresters™ is the perfect place to start!

Foresters hopes Tech Timeout will encourage families to reconnect and also establish an awareness of how their attachment to technology affects how they spend time together, even when everyone is in the same room.  Foresters’ mission is to champion family well-being and encourage families to take the Tech Timeout pledge and “disconnect to reconnect” for one hour each day for a week.

What can you do during this time? A lot! Cook a meal together, play a board game, get outdoors and take a bike ride, or even sit around the table and talk about your week. The options are endless and will all help further your goal of creating stronger bonds and getting more involved in each other’s lives. Foresters is always looking for innovative ways to help families spend meaningful time together.

Our SocialMoms moms agree!

  • Laurie with Tip Junkie says she already implements tech-free days! “With the tech time outs I have found my boys to be more creative!  {knuckle bumps}  They love to play in the Lego room and play with friends.  I have also found those moments to be a perfect time to have them help me with my current projects.  Yesterday we only had less than one hour to kill before the evening chauffeuring started, so I had the boys rake and play in the Autumn leaves.”
  • Melissa at Stockpiling Moms says she already implements a tech-free dinner. “We have a technology free dinner rule at our house.  There is no technology of any type allowed during the dinner hour.  I personally don’t use technology between 3:45 pm and 8 pm daily.”
