Just about everyone knows about Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. People getting up before the sun to get to the stores in hopes of grabbing that unbelievable deal on the must have Christmas list item. Most people I know are Black Friday shoppers, but are you a Cyber Monday shopper too?

Cyber Monday is one of the biggest online shopping days of the year. The term “Cyber Monday” was coined by Shop.org (a division of the National Retailers Federation) when a spike in sales was noticed on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Many online merchants started using the term when they too noticed the spike in their sales that day.

Why the spike in sales?

People returning to work on Monday after the holiday are shopping online from work. Also those Black Friday shoppers that didn’t get that deal because it was sold out are jumping online trying to grab those Christmas list items that were sold out in the store on Friday.

There are a number of sources available to find Cyber Monday deals. Aside from going directly to online merchants websites to find them, there are sites and groups dedicated to this online shopping day. For instance: Cyber Monday powered by Brads Deals on Facebook.

What kinds of deals can you expect to find?

  • Free or deeply discounted shipping.
  • Online only, one day, or weekend only sales specifically for Cyber Monday.
  • In addition to the above deals, retailers in the past have also offered things like free gift with purchase, free gift wrap, etc.

Where can you expect to find Cyber Monday deals?

Last year online-only retailers like Drugstore.com and Amazon offered special deal, but this year many other companies are jumping on board. You’ll find participation in Toys R’ Us, Old Navy, and Target.

So if you’re stuck working on Black Friday or you’re bummed because you didn’t get your hands on the kids’ must have toy on Black Friday, don’t fret. Check out the Cyber Monday deals too. Still plenty of time to get your holiday shopping done.
