Buying gifts can be stressful. Sure, you may know your sister’s favorite perfume or your mom’s favorite movie. But what about a last minute hostess gift, or a little something for the school secretary during the holidays? It’s always these gifts that I scratch my head and wonder, “what should I get them?” A bottle of wine could be nice, but what if they don’t drink? A bag of bath products would be relaxing, but what if they already have a bathroom drawer full of them?

So lately, I’ve been resorting to gift cards as my gift of choice. For a baby shower, a wedding gift, or a birthday present for the person who seems to have it all. There are so many available, in a variety of cute styles, and they even have the most adorable boxes and bags for you to package the cards without shoving them in an envelope. If you know you have a sports enthusiast, or an avid reader, you can purchase a gift card specific to the person’s interests. Or you can go more generic with an Amazon card or even a Visa gift card that the recipient can use just about anywhere.

Janel with A Mom’s Take has a great gift idea – a money tree with gift cards. “Instead of cash we did the same thing with gift cards which created a really colorful and really fun gift!

The great thing about gift cards is that you don’t have to pay for shipping, whether it’s having something shipped to you that you bought online, or mailing that gift across the country. Elle at Cleverly Changing says, “Shipping items is expensive. I often cringe when I see how much people paid to send a gift in the mail. It would have been much more cost effective to send a gift card instead and given the person chance to purchase something on their own.

Not only that, but you can stock up on gift cards with only a quick stop to your local grocery store. It’s easy and fast and it can even earn you rewards or save you money. How? Consumers can earn significant fuel discounts when buying gift cards in grocery stores nationwide through fuel savings programs. And many grocery stores offer rewards on your next shopping trip when purchasing gift cards during the holiday season.
