It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the second month of 2014 but Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! If you are like most of us, you’re just starting to recover from the holidays and probably haven’t given much thought into making plans for the romantic day.

In case you’re struggling for ideas, here are some suggestions for movies (in the theatre or to rent and watch at home) to set the mood for you and your special someone.

About Last Night (2014)
Up to hitting the theaters? If so, you may want to check out the remake of the 1986 classic romantic comedy, About Last Night. The storyline follows two couples who are navigating their way through new relationships. Can they take their chemistry from the bar to the bedroom and then the real world?

When Harry Met Sally (1989)
After graduating from the University of Chicago, Sally gives Harry a ride home to New York but decide to part ways in an effort to avoid complicating their friendship. Over the years, they cross paths and must address the fact that, underneath all of their pretenses, their relationship may be more significant than they want to admit.

Pretty Woman (1990)
It’s a fairytale with a decidedly seedy twist. A prostitute is hired by a successful and wealthy lawyer to accompany him to parties and dinners while he is in Los Angeles on a business trip. Neither one of them expects their professional agreement to grow into something more.

Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
In the wake of the death of his wife, a widower (and his son) leave Chicago and move to Seattle for a change of scenery. After he calls into a national radio show on Christmas Eve to express his grief, a Baltimore-based journalist takes interest in his story but ends up falling in love with him.

Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011)
The name may deter some viewers but this poignant, funny and thoughtful film centers on a middle-aged man who, after his wife asks for a divorce, pairs up with a young bachelor who shows him how to reconnect with himself. Ironically, the men end up learning more from each other than they expected.

The Notebook (2004)
This film is so popular on Valentine’s Day that it’s almost redundant to include it on this list! The plot revolves around an unlikely couple who meet at a carnival. She’s wealthy and wild and he’s poor and passionate but, despite their love, these difference tear them apart. Years later, they reconnect and embark on a journey that lasts a lifetime.

 Notting Hill (1999)
The ultimate underdog tale, the charming film follows a British travel bookstore owner who falls in love with a famous Hollywood actress who ends up in his store. Their chemistry seems undeniable until the harsh aspects of fame provide them with a dose of reality.

While these movies are a great way to spend time together on Valentine’s Day, remember that our real-life loved ones will probably never be as witty, wealthy, good-looking or thoughtful as the heroes in these movies but the commitments we make to each other on a daily basis can be just as romantic!
