Simon Cowell has made a name for himself over the years as somewhat of a commitment-phobic playboy – but is he now planning to leave his bachelor days behind him?

The former American Idol judge is reportedly about to become a father.  It’s a bit of a shock for fans since he hasn’t been seriously romantically linked to anyone recently.  Yet, the 53-year-old is about to embark on an incredibly life-changing journey.

If that was surprising, the next part will be absolutely shocking.  Naturally, everyone wants to know about the mother of Cowell’s child.  She is none other than New York socialite, Lauren Silverman, a woman who is technically still married to Cowell’s friend (former friend?) Andrew Silverman, a real estate mogul.

According to the rumors, Lauren is planning to permanently leave Andrew to be with Cowell.  The 36-year-old has reportedly been unhappy for some time now in her marriage and the couple has been heading towards divorce.

Of course, ending one relationship doesn’t necessarily guarantee the success of another and, really, with all of the drama potentially surrounding this situation, Lauren and Cowell will have their work cut out for them.  This is especially true since some sources are saying that Andrew will be accusing the pair of adultery in the divorce proceedings.  That could particularly problematic since the Silvermans share a seven-year-old son.

The X Factor personality has repeatedly said that he is not interested in becoming a father over the years, citing rigid routines and “them here drawing on the walls” as reasons for remaining childless. Recently, however, he has softened somewhat on the topic.

When asked last year whether he’d changed his mind about having children, he said: “well … yes and no. I do really, really like kids, because I can talk to them and listen to them. The problem has always been how much time you need to devote to bringing up kids. I’ve always dedicated all my life to work, and at 52, I’ve probably missed the opportunity.”

It’s still really early in the game since an insider shared that Lauren is “around 10 weeks along” but reports indicate that Cowell is committed to providing for the baby whether he’s with the mother or not.

No official statements have been made but we can’t help but wonder what Simon Cowell would be like as a father.  Would he shield his child from the limelight or would he spend his life creating the ultimate star?
