While it is sad to say goodbye to those long days of summer, there is one good way to pass those increasingly cooler fall nights – fresh primetime television shows for fall 2011.  Sure, we love our old stand-bys but it’s definitely exciting to get addicted to a new show with original storylines and characters.  This year, there are a lot to television shows to choose from and, while this least isn’t even close to exhaustive (find a complete list of new shows here), let’s take a look at the ones that are getting the most buzz, listed by air date.

Ringer (CW): Tuesday, September 13 at 9/8c

Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans will be thrilled to see their heroine, Sarah Michelle Gellar, returning to the small screen and as if that’s not awesome enough, there will be two of her. Yes, Gellar will be playing as twins, Bridget and Siobhan. Wealthy Siobahn has been presumed dead. In an attempt to hide from some bad people, Bridget assumes Siobahn’s identity and realizes that she might be in more trouble than before.

Up All Night (NBC): Wednesday, September 14 at 10/9c (moves to regular time slot on Sept. 21 at 8/7c)

New parents, Reagan and Chris (Christina Applegate and Will Arnett) feel the full impact of how their daughter has changed their lives as they try to juggle work and home demands while trying to find some time for themselves.  Maya Rudolph portrays Reagan’s boss and best friend so there should definitely be some laughs on this series.

2 Broke Girls (CBS): Monday, September 19 at 9:30/8:30c (moves to regular time slot on Sept. 26 at 8:30/7:30c

Talk about an odd couple! Sassy Max (Kat Dennings) makes ends meet working as a waitress and part-time nanny. Her co-worker, Caroline (Beth Behrs), isn’t waiting tables by choice – her wealthy father has been sent to jail and, for the first time in her life, she’s got to earn her own money.  The only thing these two girls have in common is that they’re broke – and they are ambitious. After a rocky start, the pair move in together and start making plans to open their business.

New Girl (Fox): Tuesday, September 20 at 9/8c

Oddball, Jess (Zooey Deschanel), needs a place to stay after being dumped by her boyfriend and is only reluctantly taken in by three bachelors because she’s best friends with a hot model (Hannah Simone).  Of course, the moody, depressed and quirky, Jess, eventually wins the guys over and they make it their personal quest to help her find true love.

Revenge (ABC): Wednesday, September 21 at 10/9c

Heavily advertised, Revenge is one of the dramas ABC is launching in hopes of winning the primetime war.  Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), lost everything she loved when her father died and she blames the death on the scheming and lies of her former stepmother, Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe).  With a plan for revenge, Emily infiltrates the Hamptons by pretending to be romantically interested in Victoria’s son, Daniel (Joshua Bowman).

Prime Suspect (NBC): Thursday, September 22 at 10/9c

Helen Mirren was nearly unbeatable on the British version of this show so expectations from viewers familiar with the original might be quite high.  Maria Bello stars as tough-as-nails Detective Jane Timoney who slugs it out in the male-dominated police force in New York City.

Pan Am (ABC): Sunday, September 25 at 10/9c

Stewardesses were a new breed of women – empowered and employed.  Set in the 1960s, Pan Am takes a look at these early jetsetters who defined grace, elegance and glamour.  With an incredible cast including Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner, Margot Robbie and Karine Vanasse, this drama will show that, while it might have been smooth sailing in the skies, real life for these women could be very turbulent.

American Horror Story (FX): Wednesday, October 5 at 10/9c

Looking for something a little creepier?  Ben and Vivien Sherman (Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton), are eager to start their new lives in Los Angeles and everything seems to be right on track – until they discover horrible things about their new home.  Among other scary things, there’s some sort of creature living in the basement.

Once Upon a Time (ABC): Sunday, October 23 at 8/7c

This one looks so good. Hopefully it will be worth waiting until late October to see it!  The plot unfolds after a 10 year old boy (Jared Gillmore) finds his birth mother, Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison). It turns out that Emma, a bail bonds collector, is actually the daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Joshua Dallas), fairy tale characters who have no idea who they really are.  The storyline here could be limitless.

Which fall primetime television show are you most looking forward to?
