February 2015 is going to be a hot and sexy month at the movies – just in time for Valentine’s Day!  There is a decent variety among the upcoming releases but the adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey is what everyone is talking about. If you’re looking for a family flick, SpongeBob is back on the big screen and if you need a good laugh, there’s always the sequel to Hot Tub Time Machine.  Here’s what’s coming to theaters this month:

Friday, February 6

The Seventh Son – When a mythical order is all but wiped out, the sole surviving warrior must find the last Seventh Son, a hero prophesied to be born with special powers. His abilities will be crucial since powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), has escaped confinement and is seeking revenge upon humankind. She and her followers are preparing to release an unspeakable wrath on the world but the man who imprisoned her, Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges), will not give up without a fight. He will train the Seventh Son to fight her dark magic and save the human race.

Jupiter Ascending – The Sundance Film Festival crowd didn’t particularly love this movie but that doesn’t mean that sci-fi fans won’t enjoy it. After being born under a night sky, Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) was deemed destined for greatness – too bad she works cleaning toilets. When she is tracked down by genetically engineered ex-military hunter, Caine (Channing Tatum), she gets a glimpse at what her life could really be like which includes a crazy inheritance that could chance the balance in the cosmos.

SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water – Are you ready to go back to Bikini Bottom with the whole gang? Life is good for SpongeBob and his friends until the top-secret recipe for Mr. Krabs’ Krabby Patties is stolen. Things get so desperate that SpongeBob must team up with his nemesis, Plankton, in order to defeat pirate, Burger Beard, in order to restore the tasty balance in their world.

Friday, February 13

Fifty Shades of Grey – Here it is, the film adaptation of the steamy novel that captivated women everywhere! The plot follows 21-year-old college senior, Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), after she replaces her friend Kate for an interview with wealthy 27-year-old entrepreneur, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). The mogul is unexpectedly intrigued by innocent and inexperienced Ms. Steele, whom he invites into a BDSM relationship.

Kingsman: The Secret Service – The trailers for this are exciting because it’s great to see slightly older actors in such vigorous action roles. Colin Firth leads this story about a super-secret spy organization that targets promising street kids as recruits. The goal is to take their unrefined skills and turn them into stellar agents. Unfortunately, a global threat emerges and they realize that they might need more finesse than originally planned.

Friday, February 20

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 – They’re back (without John Cusack)! In this follow-up, Nick (Craig Robinson) and Jacob (Clark Duke), head back to the time machine to help Lou, who is in trouble. In their attempt to go back to the past, they somehow end up in the future with Adam Jr. (Adam Scott). Want to be confused? The group must find a way to change the future to fix the past which is really their present.

The DUFF – DUFF stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend and, in the film, Bianca, is devastated to discover that her high school sees her this way in comparison to her prettier, more popular friends. In an effort to reinvent herself, she enlists the help of a jock in hopes of saving her senior year from total disaster. Will she regain her confidence and let the student body know that looks don’t matter?

Friday, February 27

The Lazarus Effect – The plot follows a group of medical students who find a way to bring patients back from the dead. Of course, if you are over a certain age, you will remember that this sounds a lot like the plot of a Julia Roberts/Jason Patric/Kiefer Sutherland movie called, Flatliners.

The Vatican Tapes – This must be the week for creepy thrillers because this film surrounds Angela Holmes, a 27-year-old woman who is believed to be possessed after a cut on her finger leads to increasingly erratic and destructive behavior. In fact, anyone who gets close to her is seriously injured or killed. Things get out of control when the Vatican is called for help and it is revealed that an ancient satanic force is using Angela as a weapon.

Focus – Seasoned master of misdirection, Nicky (Will Smith), breaks things off with a novice con artist (Margot Robbie) after she gets too close. Three years later, they reconnect when she, now a bonafide femme fatale, throws off his game during a very dangerous scheme at the Buenos Aires racecar circuit.
