The holidays can be a very hectic time of year. There is shopping and visiting and lots of extra work and fun. While I really enjoy the Christmas season, it’s also a time that I’m much more likely to get sick. I’m sure it’s because of the extra stress and the fact that I sometimes don’t get as much sleep as I need. Either way, these tips to stay healthy this Christmas are going to help me get through the season without getting sick.

It’s no fun at all getting sick during all the Christmas hustle and bustle. There’s so much to do that I just don’t want to have to deal with not feeling well.  I’m lucky I get everything done when I do feel well. By paying a little bit of attention to your body and how you’re feeling, you can avoid getting sick.

  • The winter months often mean less sunlight. For those suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), the lack of sunlight can really be a problem. Investing in a SAD wake-up light can help mitigate some of the effects of reduced sunlight.
  • Consider diffusing essential oils to maintain emotional and physical health. For me, lavender is very calming and peppermint is invigorating. Both help when I’m feeling stressed.
  • Keep your hands fresh and clean by washing them regularly. It’s very easy to pass on germs when you are run down.
  • Be certain to combat dry winter skin by using extra moisturizer. This is true for both your face and your hands.
  • Take extra Vitamin C. To help keep your immune system in tip-top shape, consider taking extra Vitamin C to stay healthy.
  • Drink extra water and stay hydrated. Drinking extra water is a great way to help flush all of the toxins from your body.
  • Enjoy guilt-free Christmas treats. You won’t want to step on the scale January 1st to find you’ve gained 10 pounds.
  • Get extra sleep. Stress tends to leave you feeling exhausted. Be sure to compensate by getting extra sleep as much as possible.
  • Take time to unwind. Give yourself 15 minutes at a minimum each night to take a bubble bath, light a scented candle, have a cup of herbal tea or relax and refocus.
  • Add some seasonal super foods to your diet like Brussels sprouts, chestnuts, acai or Brazil nuts.
  • Stay active and get outside. Join the kids for a snowball fight, go sledding or take a walk in the snow. Just bundle up warmly first.

No matter what your holiday celebration entails, make sure you take time to incorporate some of these tips to stay healthy this season. You’ll be able to enjoy the season with your friends and family that much more.
