Whether you are getting over that dreadful flu or a heinous cold, your body needs a jump-start. January is the perfect time to get your body back into optimal health; I don’t care how tired that sounds. These shakes and smoothies will nourish your body back to health and have you feeling ready to tackle whatever 2015 dishes up and serves you.

Sip and Stimulate

Get your digestion moving with these tasty treats to start your day.  Combining berries, ginger and a host of other goodies guarantees a good wake up.

King Kale Smoothie

This smoothie can last in the fridge for about a day.  Make it the night before and drink first thing in the morning.  The kale helps your digestion and provides added vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup kale (packed)
  • ½ pear
  • 1/3 avocado
  • ½ cucumber (small)
  • ½ lemon
  • 3 tbsp. cilantro
  • ½ inch of ginger
  • ½ cup coconut water
  • 1 scoop of protein powder
  • Water for consistency.

Blend all the ingredients together. If the smoothie is too thick add more water or more coconut water until desired thickness.

Soothing Smoothie

The honey, yogurt and enzymes from the papaya add probiotics which is perfect if you have just dealt with the stomach flu or are taking a round of antibiotics. This drink helps balance out your system and helps strengthen your immune system.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup diced papaya
  • 1 cup coconut milk or coconut yogurt
  • ½ lime juiced
  • 1-2 tbsp. raw honey.

Blend the ingredients together and drink up!

Berry Berry Smooth

The mixture of multiple types of berries working together with the rolled oats in this smoothie works well for added fiber and antioxidants.  Both of which will get things moving and keep your body regular.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups of mixed berries (think blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • ½ cup coconut, almond or hemp milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/8 rolled oats.

Blend together until smooth.  Serve.  Makes 1-2 healing servings.

Rev Up & Revitalize

Just because you are trying to cleanse and get your body back into fighting form doesn’t mean your diet has to consist of spinach, kale and chia seeds.  Unsweetened and raw cocoa powder can act as a cleanser and green tea provides antioxidants with caffeine to give you an added boost of energy during the day.

Green Tea Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brewed green tea
  • ½ peach (frozen or raw)
  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder.

Blend ingredients and serve as breakfast or as a mid-day pick me up.

Notable Notes

Remember that this is your drink and your body.  Add ingredients that taste good to you. Don’t be afraid to stray from a recipe and add your favorite fruits, veggies and nuts or seeds.  Avocado, carrots, spinach, hemp seeds, chia seeds, almonds and kefir are all great additions to any drink.  Cheers!
