With Halloween right around the corner, it’s time to start planning that Halloween party or get-together. Instead of running out to the nearest store to gather decorations, why  not keep your Halloween party fun and eco-friendly this year? Opt to use items you already have around your house, or purchase products you can reuse over the upcoming years. Here are some great ideas to “green” up your Halloween event:

Cheesecloth Spider Web

This cheesecloth spider web idea from Martha Stewart will certainly add a scary look to your party area. The cheesecloth will hold up better for future use than the standard disposable spider webs you buy from the store. In fact, the older they get, the spookier they will look.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins are abundant during the fall, so you should have no problem finding a few pumpkins to carve for natural Halloween décor. Not an expert carver? You can still turn your pumpkin into a work of art by painting silly faces on the front or writing spooky words in permanent marker.

Or make a statement by leaving your pumpkins in their natural state – but cluster them together in a variety of shapes and colors.

Candlesticks

Atmosphere is everything when it comes to getting that “spooky” feel. Candles can really help contribute to the overall atmosphere. Turn off the lights and get out your old school candlesticks for some flickering festivities.

Twigs and Sticks

Head outside and gather fallen twigs or sticks. Paint the branches solid black and let them dry. Then take some of the leftover cheesecloth from your web project and make mini ghosts to hang from the branches. Just drape the cloth over small round objects and tie off at the bottom for instant ghosts. This is perfect for the entryway to your party.

Witch Potions

Use any empty jars or glasses with lids that you have lying around the house. Fill the jars with water and a couple drops of food coloring. Now add in any plants, flowers, leaves, weeds, pinecones, or any other item from nature to the liquid – and you will have various witches’ potions.  You can even label each jar with a special name such as “Eye of Newt” to give it a spooky ambience.

Spooky Shadows

I have to give Martha Stewart props for this spooky shadow creation idea. These curtains are actually incredibly easy to make and you can use the designs from the templates or make your own. Using old fabric you have in the house to make them (or old white blankets) gives new life to an old item and will definitely have your party guests talking about the ghostly figures as they approach the house.

These are just a few ways to reuse items that you may already have in your home to create a spooky and eco-friendly Halloween party. What is your favorite eco-friendly Halloween party idea?
