It’s another of our Fake Out Take Out recipes. Piggy-backing off the Orange Chicken dish, this Beef and Broccoli stir fry is a staple at our house. All three of my kids love it for dinner and they often eat more broccoli than beef. Which is great, because broccoli is high in vitamin C, as well as dietary fiber. It also contains multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties.
This is another meal that takes less than 45 minutes to prepare and cook. Try it as a way to incorporate broccoli (or your choice of other fresh or frozen vegetables) into your family dinners.
Beef & Broccoli Stir-Fry
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 package (14 oz ) frozen broccoli florets
- 1 pound boneless beef sirloin, cut into small strips (It is a lot easier to cut if they are still slightly frozen)
- 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 tablespoon water
- Boil broccoli in water according to the package directions.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large skillet. Cook onions over medium heat and stir until tender (about 5 minutes).
- While the onions are cooking, cut the meat and garlic cloves.
- If necessary, pour the remaining 1 tablespoon oil into skillet with the onions. Cook and stir beef and garlic for a few minutes until completely cooked. Add cooked broccoli to the pan.
- Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, flour and water in small bowl. Add to skillet. Cook until heated through and sauce thickens.
I also cut up the broccoli into smaller pieces before I serve it.
This is best served with white rice. You could also use crunchy Chinese noodles with this dish.
My kids love this recipe. My six year old always asks for seconds. Their favorite part of this meal is the broccoli. Surprise, surprise!
