Bento Boxes: Sandwich Fun

Sandwiches are a common item that you will find in almost any child’s lunchbox. From peanut butter and jelly to ham and cheese, there are sandwiches present in almost any cafeteria. A sandwich doesn’t have to be boring though. In fact, many bento boxes contain sandwiches. Here are a few tips for incorporating the sandwich into bento style lunching with style and ease.
Sandwich Cutters
The absolute easiest way to turn a sandwich into a lunchbox masterpiece is by using a sandwich cutter. These are designed to cut your child’s sandwich into a cute shape of your choosing. Here are just a few of the many sandwich cutter options available on Amazon.

Sandwich cutters are used the same way as a cookie cutter. The added bonus is that they instantly de-crust the sandwich for picky eaters. You can make your sandwich as you normally would and then simply take the cutter and press it down firmly on the sandwich.

Cut Outs
If you have smaller fun shaped cookie cutters, fruit cutters, or veggie cutters you can use these to cut out fun shapes in your cheese, ham, or bread. The possibilities are endless when it comes to using cut outs on your sandwiches.
One of the easiest things to do is add cheese cut outs to the top of the sandwich. You can make a “normal” ham and cheese sandwich as you always would. Then take one of your cookie cutters and cut an additional slice of cheese into fun shapes. Place them on top of the sandwich to make it all the more appealing.
Funny Faces
Putting a face on your child’s sandwich is really very easy. You can use common food items to make your sandwich come to life. Here is one super easy way to turn your sandwich into an owl face.
- Make your sandwich as normal.
- Remove the crust from the entire sandwich except for the very top.
- Cut white cheese into two circles.
- Place the cheese on the sandwich as the eyes.
- Take a toothpick and add either two black olives or raisins as the pupils.
- Cut a piece of orange cheese or a carrot into a triangle for the beak.
