When Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck starred in Daredevil together, who could have known how their lives would change?  The pair began dating in 2004 and, on June 29, 2005, when the actress was four months pregnant with their first child, Violet, they got married. Since then, they have added two more children, Seraphina and Samuel.

Over the years, we have seen less and less of Garner who has chosen to stay home and focus on raising their three children. During that time, her husband’s career has seen some huge successes. He starred in the critically acclaimed, Gone Girl, was chosen as the new Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and, of course, won an Oscar for his film, Argo. Now, Garner says, it’s time for her to revitalize on her own career.

The 42-year-old Golden Globe winner, is currently promoting her new movie, Danny Collins, but has recently appeared in Dallas Buyers Club, Draft Day, Men, Women & Children and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  She was able to accomplish this by staggering the filming schedule around her parenting obligations.

During a recent promotional event, she explained: “I’ve been home for a long time. It’s my turn and I’m going to go to work this spring. I think I’ll work the spring and summer, maybe the fall too, as long as some of it’s at home. I don’t think my deals are done yet so I can’t say, but yeah, I’m about to go to work. I really choose by what I like. I thought Alexander was a super smart script. Just [costar] Steve [Carell] alone would have been enough, gosh I love working with that guy, he’s just the best… but yeah that was fun for me. My kids really got a lot of juice out of the fact that I was in that movie. I heard about a little kid saying to their mom the other day at school. The mom said something about Ben and the little kid said no Sera’s mom is a movie star, and her dad just comes along. I was like that’s awesome, because she saw Alexander.”

While she is undoubtedly grateful for the attention from young fans, she is open about the fact that her husband’s career has been shining brightly for a few years now. She added: “Ben is super busy and I’m super happy for him. I chose to stay home this year and just said, ‘Go for it babe. Do it all. Do Gone Girl, do Batman, do The Accountant. Do everything.’ I want that for him and I’m happy for him. And he says the same to me. Except that he’s really busy. But he understands that when I really have to do it, we figure it out.”

How does a Hollywood power couple figure out? It’s not just about relying on nannies for the Garner/Affleck family. The actress went on to say that she’s never been away from the children for more than four or five days. She says that she makes it clear to the production crew that her schedule needs to take her children into account and then focuses on how she will spend time with them when she’s finished working.

It’s an intriguing dynamic to consider, for sure, since many assume that famous parents simply pawn their children off on others. While some definitely do, others, like Garner, seem to really want to be actively involved in their upbringing. It sounds like she’s just like any other mother trying to further her career while juggling the demands of a family. It would be interesting to see if Ben Affleck has the same scheduling demands for the production crew on the sets of his movies.
